  1. Provide a summary of the contents of your video and a rationale for why YOU chose this topic, in paragraph form.
  • Our group did our video on tobacco use. We chose this topic because we already knew it was a huge public health issue that many people pay know mine to. We start the video with a introduction to what tobacco is. Then we start to talk about tobacco in media. After talking about tobacco in media we talk about tobacco in the youth. Health and how tobacco affects it is what we talk about next. After that we give our closing statement.
  1. Provide a reflection on how you contributed to the project and the role you played in the group.
  • I believe I contributed a lot to the project. I wrote the script and put the video together.
  1. What did you do well and what could you have done differently?
  • I believe I did well explaining our topic. I feel like I could had done more research to get more information.
  1. What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA?
    1. Try to summarize by addressing some of the unit essential questions
      1. What factors affect public health?
      2. What role do the economy, politics, and society play in the healthcare system?
      3. How is the process of research being affected?
      4. What careers apply public health and concepts from anatomy/physiology?
  • The most meaningful part of creating this PSA was being able to inform people. Tobacco is one of the leading cause of deaths in the U.S. and still people smoke. The government puts taxes on cigarettes but that still doesn't stop people from smoking them. Media keeps people from being well informed, everyone knows smoking is bad but most people do not really care. Most people who are against tobacco use are cancer survivors or members of a family who lost someone to cancer. They lead the movement and start charities and organizations to help people from all over.

Kahsir Jones Capstone

Posted by Kahsir Jones in Capstone on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 10:34 pm
For my capstone (Senior Project) I chose do something with my hands. I wanted to build something that I knew the school would use years after I graduate. In our school we transport a lot of stuff around. Either it is equipment and supplies for the school workshop, or its furniture for the classroom. It is a lot of work transporting that stuff around our school. To make it easier we use these flatbed carts to transport a large variety of supplies and equipment around the school. The problem is that we only have about two or three of those carts in the school and we all have to share them. So I chose build another one for the school. First I had to create the design of my cart. I needed to know how high up I wanted it to be and how long it should be. The measurements were important because the cart would need to be able to get around the school easily and fit into the elevator. After working on the design I created the blueprint on what it would look like. I did this by using graph paper, isometric and grid type. Isometric was used to create a 3d blueprint and the grid was used for 2d. I drew the blueprint from three angles front, side, and top view. After I was finished with blueprints and design I was ready to start the final product. The first thing I did was build the frame for the handlebar of the cart. Then I cut out the platform for the flatbed of the cart. After that I created the handlebar by using a short piece of wood that I smoothed all around with a palm sander. After all the pieces were done being built I put everything together and I had a final product. I learned that building something is not as easy as it seems. In the process of it all a lot of things happens. Sometimes the measurements are off, or the supplies or damaged or lost. It is a long process and even longer when you run into problems, but once you finish your final product it is a proud achievement.

On this project we decorated a mask and a candy skull in remembrance of someone we lost. We also wrote a eulogy about the person we made the skull and mask for.

Reflection

Hello my name is kahsir and today I’m gonna talk about somebody that meant a lot to me. first I would like to say we were not related but he was so close to my family he was called our cousin. Dave is from Philadelphia and I believe he has lived here his whole life. He was our neighbor that is how my family became so close to him. I hung out with younger brother a lot that is how I knew Dave. I would describe him as funny, intelligent, and artistic. Dave meant a lot to me and my family, I looked up towards him as a role model. He was a big part of our lives and now that he is not here it feels weird. I decided to make a sugar skull dedicated to him because he is the only person I really knew who died. Growing up I was not that close with my real family so dave was the only choice I saw. I did not know his favorite colors so I just used the brightest colors I saw. My sugar skull is bright and vibrant and that is how I saw him, a bold person who stood out. Días de los muertos has helped me remember him more vivid like he was here just yesterday. If I celebrate Días de los muertos I believe I would remember dave like he is still here for the rest of my life.

The item I choose was a Pepsi bottle. I choose it because it seemed simple and easy to do. Another reason why I choose the Pepsi bottle because it reminded me of my mom because she loves Pepsi.
