Q4 Benchmark INDIVIDUAL final submission

Posted by Kahsir Jones in Anatomy and Physiology · Aziz · E on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 8:46 pm

  1. Provide a summary of the contents of your video and a rationale for why YOU chose this topic, in paragraph form.
  • Our group did our video on tobacco use. We chose this topic because we already knew it was a huge public health issue that many people pay know mine to. We start the video with a introduction to what tobacco is. Then we start to talk about tobacco in media. After talking about tobacco in media we talk about tobacco in the youth. Health and how tobacco affects it is what we talk about next. After that we give our closing statement.
  1. Provide a reflection on how you contributed to the project and the role you played in the group.
  • I believe I contributed a lot to the project. I wrote the script and put the video together.
  1. What did you do well and what could you have done differently?
  • I believe I did well explaining our topic. I feel like I could had done more research to get more information.
  1. What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA?
    1. Try to summarize by addressing some of the unit essential questions
      1. What factors affect public health?
      2. What role do the economy, politics, and society play in the healthcare system?
      3. How is the process of research being affected?
      4. What careers apply public health and concepts from anatomy/physiology?
  • The most meaningful part of creating this PSA was being able to inform people. Tobacco is one of the leading cause of deaths in the U.S. and still people smoke. The government puts taxes on cigarettes but that still doesn't stop people from smoking them. Media keeps people from being well informed, everyone knows smoking is bad but most people do not really care. Most people who are against tobacco use are cancer survivors or members of a family who lost someone to cancer. They lead the movement and start charities and organizations to help people from all over.

    • Provide a summary of the contents of your video and a rationale for why YOU chose this topic, in paragraph form.
The topic of this was random so I didn't technically choose it. However, I did find it interesting to find out more about our topic. The topic was about the state of women's healthcare-specifically reproductive healthcare. The video mostly just goes over how severe the defunding could be to several reproductive healthcare stations, and how it practically went under the radar with everything that happened after the result of the election.
    • Provide a reflection on how you contributed to the project and the role you played in the group.
I wrote the script, wrote some of the questions, contributed to the research, and recorded david. (Not the interview)
    • What did you do well and what could you have done differently?
It could've been submitted on time, and I think we did a good job finding someone to interview even after calling robots for 3 days.
    • What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA?
Probably how hard it was to actually get any information.

      • Try to summarize by addressing some of the unit essential questions
        • What factors affect public health?
No reproductive healthcare station directly affect public health there could be an unexpected bump in STDs, more miscarriages, etc., anything that relates to reproduction could potentially see severe side effects
      • What role do the economy, politics, and society play in the healthcare system?
The politics of the nation directly affect the healthcare system because they're being funded by the government, and as far as the economy is concerned if the economy skyrockets downwards we might see things like removing funding from several healthcare stations.
      • How is the process of research being affected?
The process of research could be affected by the lack of answers you get when trying to contact any one of these stations, and it could also be affected by the defunding bill that just passed.
      • What careers apply public health and concepts from anatomy/physiology?
Doctors, Nurses, Veterinarians, etc. Anyone that works in the public health field will apply concepts from anatomy/physiology.

Q4 Benchmark INDIVIDUAL final submission By Amin Robinson

Our topic was reproductive healthcare and in this video, David played the role of our spokesperson in which he explained the effects that low healthcare for women in U.S. I contributed to this project creating questions and acting as the interviewer I called multiple and loads of people and I made sure I got enough information on reproductive healthcare as possible. I feel like in creating this project I could have been more vocal with my interviewing. I've watched PSAs and I feel like we could have made our a little bit more PSA-ish because we never experienced it we actually didn't even know how to create it. reproductive health care affects mostly women because women are sometimes prohibited by society to make their own reproductive choices such as abortion and whether they want to keep a baby, Women are losing their reproductive rights. Some factors that affect public health is the loss of social power of the people. The public should be able to have some social power over health care because they are the ones that pay for it. Economics is the structure in how money is distributed and I don't think that is distributed when I come to reproductive health care because most women are at risk when it comes to their reproductive system. The process of research is being affected because there are many different views on reproductive rights some believe there should be pro-.life but those that believe they should have power over their reproductive system are usually poor and unable to handle a baby and insurance. I feel like careers like psychologist, and sociologist the most because psychology is the study of the mind, sometimes public health soon affects the mind of those in poor conditions while sociologist study the society's effects on a person what makes a person mentally sick or physically sick

Reproductive Healthcare w/ L.A.D. News!

Posted by David Wilson in Anatomy and Physiology · Aziz · E on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 8:11 pm

In my group’s video, w/ Amin and Lamont, we decided to interview my Uncle who was the Vice President of Operations at Robert Wood Johnson Barnabus Health System. In our interview, we go over the importance of Planned Parenthood, the importance of it being available, and the importance of who is controlling it, plus more.

I chose this topic because I was pulled into it after being late to class, but agreed to it because I felt that the injustice of repealing Planned Parenthood just seemed much too unrealistically evil at the time when I heard about it. It pulled a heartstring I didn’t know was there.

In the project, I’m pretty sure I contributed a good one-third of a pie, especially towards the end. I know that I helped out with the first checkpoint, didn’t do the questions in checkpoint two, but lastly did edit the video at the end and conduct the interview, which was pretty heavy on its own. In doing things differently, I could’ve just been more responsible in my timing in getting everything done.

  1. The factors that affect public health are the politicians that sell it and the local hospitals and offices that inform people of the best health options and spread their info to news stations to inform the public, furthermore.

  2. Economy, being money and trade, influences how much people are willing to invest in their health so long as it doesn’t make them go broke, politics influence the public’s will with arguments that only provide money from being heard but not any actual helpful effects for the people affected by them, and half of society just tries to wrap their finger around the problem and promote solutions to these problems that help those affected by said problems for the low cost of free thought and better health rather than money that doesn’t even go to them in the long run.

  3. The process of research is strenuous to get into and it takes a very long time before you may reach any executive anywhere for help. It almost felt unheard of in my group’s research.

  4. One profession pertaining to public health in anatomy and physiology would be, Vice President of Operations inside a hospital. Others would be Pharmacists, Dental Hygienists, Chiropractors, R.N.’s, Biomedical Laser Technicians, Neurophysiological Technologists… etc.

The video will be up soon, it’s just processing.

Motor Vehicle injury

Posted by Leyitha Achoute in Anatomy and Physiology · Aziz · E on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 8:35 am

-Our video is about motor vehicle accidents, in the video, we covered the statistics behind those crashes, the aftermath of those crashes and how it is a public health issue. Teenagers like ourselves are one of the most affected demographic due to motor vehicle accidents. This topic is very important because it's something that is ongoing and often not looked upon. This video will be a catalyst for this topic to be taken into consideration. -We worked in a group of 3 people, including myself. I was responsible for doing the interview with Mr. Jean Mitchell because I am the one who referred him for the position. I was also responsible for the opening of the PSA. Those were my two major assignments in the group, besides that, I work along with my group members in other components to complete the project. - I think the interview was well done, the questions were meaningful and Mr.Jean Mitchell answered them well and stayed on topic. I think the video could be better, could have been if we had pictures but we don't because my group members didn't agree with that idea. -The most meaningful part of completing this project happened during the interview. Besides all the research we did on statistics behind motor vehicle accidents, the interview provided us with a more human interaction and I valued that.

Heart Disease & Stroke

Posted by Imani Horne in Anatomy and Physiology · Aziz · E on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 12:47 am

With doing this project my partner and I chose to do heart disease and strokes because we felt that it was in the top 5 of the leading causes of death which is terrible. With this project, I have learned a lot and we were able to network with people from organizations and receive even more information. In this group, I contributed lots if information and I also contributed both of the interviews. Lastly, I contributed by editing the video. I felt like I had a huge part in the project. The most meaningful part of the experience of creating this PSA was putting together all of the bits and pieces of information together into one video.
Public health is a big issue pertaining to heart disease and strokes. Heart disease is a high rating of the cause of death in African Americans. It is almost number one in being the highest cause of death in the United States.
The economy, politics, and society also plays a big role in the healthcare system such as networking and raising money to find different research programs and free clinics for communities. Money wise the process of research id being affected because they can't get what they need if there is no money and they can't do tests or research if they don't have candidates so I say people also affect the process of research.

Teen Pregnancy : Public Health Concern

Posted by Jada Martin in Anatomy and Physiology · Aziz · E on Monday, May 29, 2017 at 10:56 pm

For our benchmark we didn’t do a skit because we felt like that wouldn’t truly inform people about our topic or it wouldn’t really help get the message across. We just chose to do a presentation explaining what our topic is which was “Teen Pregnancy”. We thought it would better to do a presentation so we could grasp the concepts better. I contributed a lot to this project. I we did equally the same amount of work. We all worked together to get the checkpoints done and coming up with different ideas for our project. Now that the project is over I do I wish I could have a video about prevention more like a commercial then a skit. Instead we chose to do a flyer. I think the most meaningful part of creating the PSA was the interview. I say the interview because my group members and I got to hear a personal experience which was nice. Teenage pregnancy is an important public health issue is because integrated action across several sectors is needed to help young women avoid unwanted pregnancy and to deal with the consequences of pregnancy whether it is wanted or not. High teenage pregnancy rates are a reflection of poor sexual health practice, which is a public health issue. Teen pregnancy have negatively impacted the economy. Nearly one-third of teen girls who have dropped out of high school cite early pregnancy or parenthood as a key reason. According to the Alliance for Excellent Education, it is estimated that over the course of his or her lifetime, a single high school dropout costs the nation approximately $260,000 in lost earnings, taxes, and productivity. Overall, from the information we’ve gotten we think is important that young ladies protect themselves. Teen pregnancy isn’t easy and if you happen to make a mistake just be responsible.

Quarter 4 Benchmark: Motor Vehicle Injuries

Posted by Nzinga Hutchinson in Anatomy and Physiology · Aziz · E on Monday, May 29, 2017 at 10:39 pm

The overall topic of our video was Motor Vehicle Injures and why it is a public health issue. Our country is a world leader in motor vehicle crashes and injuries simply for the fact that people don’t typically wear their seatbelts. This is what causes tragedies and casualties. I contributed to the group by getting the majority of our sources back in Checkpoint 1. What I’ve done well, in my opinion, was finding our background research and contributing ideas for our PSA video. What could’ve been done differently was the communication between my group members and I. Some didn’t know what we were doing on certain checkpoints and some were lost but overall, we all pitched in making our PSA video. My group member, Anaiah, was in charge of editing since she’s experienced. The most meaningful part of the experience of making the PSA was gathering information and now knowing that statistics of M.V.I. that happen in the U.S.

Factors that affect public health is social support, income, race, gender, heredity/genetics, age, education/literacy, etc. The economy plays a part in public health by health programs receiving funding to help people in the community and to fund research for diseases. Politics play a part by legislative policies setting down the ground rules for insurance companies and health facilities to help patients the best they can and have their interests at heart so that we could have a healthy society. Society plays a part by keeping the health facilities in business to help keep them healthy and safe. Without a community, hospitals and clinics would have no patients. Society helps keep the facilities up and running so that everyone can be safe.

Teen Pregnancy : Public Health Concern

Posted by Dashawn McIntosh-Inniss in Anatomy and Physiology · Aziz · E on Monday, May 29, 2017 at 8:21 pm

Reflection: Quarter 4 Benchmark was very interesting. My group and I had to pick a topic and create a PSA guide and organize a interview video of this topic. Nick, Jada and I all came up with the topic “Teen Pregnancy” to cover and be aware of. We researched the statistics of teen pregnancy, the risk to be aware of, and tips of staying healthy while pregnant. Our information was mainly for the mothers because they are carrying the baby for 9 months and have to stay healthy for the baby. Teen pregnancy is a trending topic and have always been an issue around the world. I have a few friends who had a child at a young age, and I we wanted to understand what they went through. Having a child is a blessing, but at a young age is also risky which is basically what my project covered. My group and I worked great together. For this project we divided it up into parts and then put it all together in the end. My assignment for this project was to organized the interview and make it happen. I wrote down the questions with the help of one of my other partners and then we both interviewed one of our classmates who had a child at a young age. I believe I did a great job and don’t need to change anything if I have this project again. Nevertheless, Creating the PSA was really meaningful to me. Many young ladies are having children at a young age and don’t understand the risk until after they are pregnant or so on. The rates of teen pregnancy rates are going up and down. Our goal is to mostly help the rate come down, but it that doesn't work at least broadcasting the information will help. Information is always easy to get when it comes to this topic. Making sure the mother and her child contain a healthy 9 months is always the goal. For more information that isn’t provided is always best to ask your doctor. Doctors and local clinics always provide information and tips on what and what not to do.

    Alcohol Harms

Posted by Zoie Jones in Anatomy and Physiology · Aziz · E on Monday, May 29, 2017 at 6:21 pm

The topic of alcohol harms was something that I can really relate to because I am about to go to college. Going to college presents many temptations including alcohol. I felt it was important to educate myself as well as my peers about the harms alcohol presents. In this video, we featured an interview with Michelle Heyward. Ms. Heyward is the director of the drug-free coalitions of Philadelphia. She gave us some insightful information about the harms of alcohol.

I contributed to this video by being the one who set up the interview and wrote out the interview questions. I was also featured in the actual video asking the questions. I think that I did a good job of asking insightful questions for our speaker that would make the video interesting. The most meaningful part of the PSA was making the message relatable to Philadelphia.

Throughout this PSA we learned about factors that affect public health. These factors include income, location, education and literacy, and the support of the government. We also learned how the economy, politics, and society play a big role in the healthcare system. Ms. Heyward talked to us about the 12 Sectors that play a role in the drug free coalitions. These 12 sectors all come together to play a big role in the prevention of drug and alcohol use. We featured those 12 sectors in our PSA.
