Environmental Science: Water Pollution

Posted by Mercedes Blades in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 5:03 pm

Water pollution is what we decided to focus on because it’s a growing concern. It affects the water quality levels as well as surrounding living organisms.

We evenly contributed to this project. All of the checkpoints were divided evenly. We assigned different sections of the issue to the members to research so that we gathered the most information in the most efficient time possible. It helped a lot. Also, we assigned group roles. For example, I was in charge of signing in and out the equipment and time management.

Something that went well was gathering the information. All the checkpoints were completed on time and done thoroughly. We fell behind when it came to recording. Between finding spaces that were unlocked to record at, putting the equipment together, and knowing what to say, it was a challenge. We could have managed our time and available resources better so that our project wasn’t so rushed.

The most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA is to bring knowledge of the situation to others and hopefully make a change.

This topic really educated me because I was unaware of how much lead poisoning was surrounding where I live. I also didn't know how much of an impact the effects of lead poisoning had on kids who were exposed to it. I think the most interesting part was having to research a specific spot in Philadelphia and learning about it because it allowed us to learn about important things in a place of our choosing. Researching this also taught me a lot about the city I live in. I'm still wondering if there's any other solutions or if there is a quicker solution to solving this issue.

Natural Disasters: Hurricanes

I think that this was an easy but informational project. I hear about hurricanes all the time but I've never encountered one so I never felt the need to learn anything about them. I learned a lot from doing the research with my group. Some main points that I learned from this are how hurricanes formed, how they get named, and what to do to prepare and stay safe during one. I may not need this information, but it's always good to have. I think the most interesting information I gained was about how they get named and the different parts of a hurricane.

Poetry Project

For this project, we had to pick a Spanish author and one of his poems. For all the components, we had to describe the poets life, our personal life, their poem, and then create a poem based on the themes in the poem. My poet was Mario Benedetti. His themes in the poem were about love and happiness. I chose to incorporate those themes, along with the requirements like all the tenses we needed, to make the poem about someone close to me. This project gave us a chance to be free and express our-self by writing openly in a different language. I think this was one of the better projects because we really got to connect to it.

Travel Project

For this project, we had to pick a Spanish speaking country and capital, and behave like traveling agents. In a group, we had to plan out three packages for a couple to travel somewhere. Things included real life prices and activities, restaurants, hotels, flights, etc. After this, we had to make three different ways of sharing content (brochure, powerpoint, and commercial.) I think it was an interesting project. However, the time goes by quickly and it is a time consuming project. Something I would do if I were to do this project again is manage my time.

Las Noticias Benchmark

For this benchmark, we had to pick a city and create a news broadcast that includes anchors, a choice between a 5 or 7 day forecast, health, fashion, and breaking news. For the city, we decided to do Philadelphia. As a group, we thought about what requirements could fit into each segment before writing the script. After writing the script, we went back to check that we had incorporated each requirement. To make our project better, we included things such as a logo, animated transitions, dressing the part, and props. While recording, we made sure where we recorded looked presentable and had good lighting. The only problem we thought we had was the two snow days. However, we still had plenty of time to record and edited. We used our time wisely. As a result of this, we had finished and submitted our benchmark before the 10 o'clock deadline.

Spanish Book

Posted by Mercedes Blades in SPANISH 2 - Moran - D on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 12:35 pm
My partner Josh Bowers and I made this children book about a boy named Miguel who gets sick and goes to school. Miguel's mom forces him to go to school even though he is sick. He throws up and goes to the nurse. He then goes home and eats with his family and ends up feeling better at the end of the story. We found pictures online, printed the story, and colored the pictures in. This project was one of the better ones because we got to use our creativity to make the story as interesting as possible.

College Interview

My partner Eric Johnson and I decided to do Temple University for the college needed in this project. We looked at what the college offered, what type of environment the school is in, and what is near the college. Eric was the interviewer and I was the interviewee. We had included all the requirements that were needed. If I could change one thing I did on this project, I would change the setting and how loud we spoke. There were kids screaming and we talked a little low so it was hard to hear some of what we said. Since the video was not that good, I put some things into the presentation document that would improve the expectations.

This day of the dead project was very creative and thoughtful. It was an individual project about celebrating and remembering a loved one who died. I was creative with how I chose to represent the memories of my grandfather through the skull and mask. After I created these extra meaningful representations, I went deeply into explaining why I did and what it meant to me. The english reflection was just explaining what happened, and why I chose to incorporate what I did. The español panegírico was focused on the person I chose to do. This project helped me celebrate the life of the person I loved most instead of mourning over his death.

Conversational PowerPoint

My partner David Trusty and I did this PowerPoint on the different categories for ser y estar. This project was very organized, thoughtful, and had most of the requirements. The pictures that were chosen went along well with the topic that was introduced in each slide. We recorded over and over again until we got it to our best ability. This project was very simple, yet creative. Even though we had a set topic and requirements, we got a lot of freedom with how we wanted to make it.

Tips For Teenagers: Wesley, Mercedes, Cristian, Saphira

Tips for Teenagers

By: Wesley, Cristian, Mercedes, Saphira

Based on the I-Search papers that we completed on teenage development, here are some tips for teenagers to help them be happier and to help them develop in positive ways.

  1. When and if you are depressed, get a therapist and don’t put all the pressure on yourself.

  2. Adolescents should never think that their parents’ divorce is their fault, because it’s not.

  3. Never blame yourself and stress about your own life because of your parents’ divorce.

  4. Peer pressure is sometimes the most influential thing in our lives, but we need to understand whether it is negative or positive.

  5. Teens should recognize that peer pressure is negative when it gets to the point where other teens pressure them to do things that they know is wrong.

  6. Teens should also know that going to their parents or a trusted adult for help or advice is always a good idea because adults have been through all that teens are going through, and are more experienced on how to resist it.

Social Media Infographic

Posted by Mercedes Blades in TECH 1 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 10:22 am
I chose this topic because of how the world is today and how many people use social media. It amazes me to see how many people use social media, and what they do on it. I hope people learn how many teens are using social networks and I want others to learn how many bad things do happen on them which is why the second and third block are about the use of social media, and cyberbullying.

Stephanie and Mercedes: Electric Arts Project

Posted by Mercedes Blades in PHYSICS 1 - Gray - C on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 12:10 pm

Stephanie and I chose to do a phone case. We chose this because our phones are a major and significant part of our lives. We feel as though our phones represent us best. Without our phones, we would not be the same people we are. Overall, we felt as though a phone case would be best to do because it represents us.

In today’s society everything is pretty much electronic. Teenagers live on phones and computers, it’s a technological world. The main reason technology is such a big part of today’s society is because it’s a common and popular way of communication. Some teenagers do not have many friends, so they seek online friends. Some people’s families live far away and they can’t see them often so technology is a great way to still keep in contact with them. Using technology you can not only talk to them, but you can see their posts and pictures on social media sites. It makes you feel more involved with your family. Same thing with friends, they might live to far to see frequently but calling or texting them is a great way to keep in contact and maintain that friendship. Therefore, we chose a phone case because phones are a great communication tool and a big part in today’s society, especially with teenagers.

Another reason we chose a phone case as our project is because going on our phones is like going into another world. It’s pretty much a worry free zone for us. People like to listen to music and shut the world out when they are feeling down. Most people can express themselves better using technology rather than in real life. When we are on our phones, we don’t have to worry about anything and we can feel comfortable and just be ourselves. Teenagers usually have many things to stress about so our phones are like a stress reliever. We can feel safe and be ourselves when we use technology, specifically our phones. We chose to do a phone case because technology is a big part of today’s society and it’s a safe and worry free zone.

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

I chose this image because many people who are victims of bullying try to take their own life. Not many people know the extent of bullying and what it can lead to. This picture shows how serious bullying can be and what can be the outcome of just a few harsh words. By using this picture I am trying to show the effects of bullying and how easily someone's life could be over based on people's rude comments. Therefore, people should not judge and harass others because you never know what the outcome might be.
