Stress & The Sympathetic Nervous System

Posted by Cashe Chapman in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 7:59 pm

After completing this project I have proudly learned there inner workings and effects of stress. Learning how badly it affects our bodies and how it does exactly. By doing this project it has only motivated me to avoid stress even more. By making a model that in my opinion doubles as a study guide if needed helps anyone learn more in an interesting way. Collaborating with group members made this project even more interesting observing how we all absorbed the information. Overall I am glad t have done this project as it related to real life things not only to me but everyone around me.

The Image shows our model; the top is the unhealthy sympathetic system and the bottom is the normal sympathetic system.

Reflection:  We specifically looked into how stress affects the body which happen to occur in the sympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic Nervous System was complicated and complex to understand at first. But after researching and completing the project, I learned a lot about the  the sympathetic nervous system and its root the central nervous system and its sub-unit. I learned about neurotransmitters, hormones, how the sympathetic system helps us and affects us with stress. My group worked together and communicated throughout the process making it easy to understand the topic and get things done well. What I now wonder is how the parasympathetic system which is the contrast as to explain system of the sympathetic nervous system.

After completing this project, I learned that Hyperthermia can affect the human body in many different negative ways including but are not limited to; "dehydration, fatigue, flushing, thirst, excess sweating, fainting, inability to sweat normally, lightheadedness, low blood pressure, or nervous system dysfunction".

When doing this project there were many things that I had felt that are interesting such as hypothermia can control the way our body temperature works while doing this benchmark my group and I had come up  with the idea of using candy in order to have people understand how hypothermia affects the human body in fact if hypothermia isn't taken care of right away it could lead to death.  With that being said we wanted to include those symptoms in the diagram because one big side effect many people usually look over is dry mouth.

One thing I did find very interesting while doing this benchmark was discovering the many symptoms that I had no idea about when catching hypothermia. Because of that, we wanted to include those symptoms in the diagram.

Sports Physiology Mini-Project: Swimming

Posted by Michael Tran in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 9:00 am

For the Sports Physiology Mini-Project, you will be working in groups of 4 to investigate a particular physical activity and injuries related to it. Your deliverable will be an informative poster. Design this project in a manner that will make it an effective study guide for the Cells, Tissues, Anatomical Term, and Body Cavity quiz that is coming up.
