Bullying is becoming an extremely big problem that many individuals endure. Bullies torment others because they want to feel powerful, they have been bullied themselves, or have a mental illness that makes them do things they dont think is wrong. Bullying can emotionally and physically destroy a victim, whether it is by cyber bullying, verbal abuse, or physical abuse. Physical bullying is becoming a very serious and detrimental problem. I chose to do this topic because bullying is killing 40,000 people yearly and i want to start to raise awareness. So for this project i did a google slide presentation on The Definition of Bullying, The Different Types of Bullying,The effects of bullying and how We Can Stop Bullying. I learned a lot more about bullying then i even thought i would. There some things i didn't even know that happened and i didn't mind the research because i got to get a quick touch up on what we can do to stop bullying. its a huge problem that has a simple solution.

Marcus Villacorta Capstone: 360 Blog

Posted by Marcus Villacorta in Capstone on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 2:36 am

During the early years of high school I was a lonely child. Although I was very friendly at the time and had no trouble finding friends, I found trouble confiding in them and I felt unable to speak my mind. This had led me to begin writing as a way to express these emotions. I had continued to write, but slowed down in my sophomore year of high school, due to learning the skill of woodworking/carpentry. For the first time in my life I was able to create something tangible from absolutely nothing but an image in my mind. That was something I had never experienced before this point. It was liberating in so many ways, and it led me to other practices such as electronics, drawing, painting, and so much more. However in my junior year I had begun to deal with some very personal problems, and my family life became very chaotic. It was once again difficult for me to express myself and I had lost focus on what I wanted in life. That changed, but only after I had found my old writings, because I had begun to understand what writing used to do for me mentally. Eventually I had pulled myself from a very dark place through writing, and that collection of writings was meant to be my capstone in the form of a book. This vision had to change, since the writings were all more or less separate they have to be organized and tweaked so that they flow as a cohesive book. I do want to complete this project, even if it takes me thirty years to do so. The collection of writings are just very personal and have to be edited very delicately before I can comfortably release them for everyone to see. But since this is my senior project I knew I had to have something completed, so I decided to create a blog. So that I may post as I complete the pieces and so I can organize them as I release them. The first blog post will be posted, and read as part of my capstone presentation. Feel free to add your input on any posts, and welcome to my first attempt at a blog. Any updates will be noted in future posts.

Teenage Life, by: Jenna Cox

Posted by Jenna Cox in Capstone on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 4:04 pm

My capstone is based on an average teenagers life. I decided to do this topic, because everyone in this school can relate. Students can relate right now, and teachers can relate from past experiences. This video was a lot of work, and I really tried to make it as relatable as possible.

Abstracts:
For my capstone, I want to do resources about asthma disease. I decided to do this because I want to know more about asthma as well as give information to others. I can give people more information about asthma based on my project information. I did not know much about Asthma attacks and or how to control it. Through this year-long project, I wanted to reach out to my mentor  about researching online. I always work with the mentor once a week so we found out how to teach about Asthma and to teach myself about diseases.
I wanted to teach people about asthma in a compelling method. I wanted to create something that people could easily access and understand. I aimed to produce work that was content rich and concise. So in order to meet all my requirements, I’ve created slideshow parts to my work and give a brief background on the project.  The project goal was to improve the quality of asthma care given to pediatric patients by promoting inclusion of the asthma guidelines into the primary care setting, providing caregivers and children asthma self-management skills to improve asthma outcomes. In addition, the project provided educational instructions to both children with asthma and their caregivers to facilitate asthma self-management. The mission of the capstone project was to provide evidence to the capstone panel to improves pediatric asthma control. The vision of the asthma project was to reduce the asthma burden in children at the community health center and to increase asthma preventative care services to the undeserved children in the community.

This video explain about Bangladesh history, Economic, politics, Religions and  Judicial System. Bangladesh has a history way before country was form itself, before 1971 Bangladesh used to known as East Pakistan and West Pakistan. East and West got into fight for official language of the country, but East Pakistan was most Bengali speaking side and west Pakistan wanted to make Pakistan as Urdu as official language of the country. Both side was disagree to each other as it lead to war and millions of people died during independence war. East Pakistan won the war and separated country with two side. Now West Pakistan knows as Pakistan And East Pakistan Known as Bangladesh.  The capital city of Bangladesh is Dhaka, The current population of Bangladesh is 161 million, estimated in 2015. Its make Bangladesh one of the highest population country in the world with rank in 8th. I found surprisingly higher than Russia, Germany and United Kingdom. In Bangladesh Nearly 88% of the people are Sunni Muslims, making Bangladesh one of the world's largest Muslim countries. About 10% of the population are Hindu and remaining 2% are others. The largest city and capital of Bangladesh is Dhaka. The city has an estimated population.

Bangladesh emerged as an independent nation in 1971 after breaking away and achieving independence from Pakistan in the Bangladesh liberation war. The country's borders coincide with the major portion of the ancient and historic region of Bengal in the eastern part of the Indian subcontinent.

The area's early history featured a succession of Indian empires, internal squabbling, and a tussle between Hinduism and Buddhism for dominance. Islam became dominant gradually since the 13th century when Sunni missionaries arrived. Later, Muslim rulers reinforced the process of conversion by building masjid (mosques) and madrassas.

The borders of modern Bangladesh were established with the partition of Bengal and India in August 1947, when the region became East Pakistan as a part of the newly formed State of Pakistan following the Radcliffe Line. However, it was separated from West Pakistan by 1,600 km (994 mi) of Indian territory.

Anaiah Davis Capstone

Like Spinning Plates from Anaiah Davis on Vimeo.

Hallelujah Money from Anaiah Davis on Vimeo.

At first, for my capstone, I wanted to create a short film, but by the middle of the school year became stuck and uninterested in that genre of film. So I decided, after having a great discussion with my mentor, to create 3 music videos, each a different artist and a different type of editing feature (such as the glitch effect in the video Ways to Fake It). Some of the videos were challenging to film, but thanks to the collaboration of some students, I was able to create an amazing capstone to show to everyone. I learned that sometimes filmmaking can required the help of more than just 2-3 people.

"Attention, Filmmakers: Essential Short Film Tips". IndieWire. N.p., 2015. Web. 6 Feb. 2017.

At first, this didn’t seem like a good source because it gave me other links to go to, but then I realized that this is an exceptional source, because it guides me to other good articles to read from. This article is also not very reliable, but also reliable because it’s written by the actual company and multiple writers. It gives you articles that pertain to pre-production and postproduction, and gives you small descriptions of each article that can help you, whatever level you are in the filmmaking world. It would be good to use this article to get some more tips.

Bartyzel, Monika. "Girls On Film: Of Course We Need More Female Directors!". Theweek.com. N.p., 2013. Web. 6 Feb. 2017.

This article is about women in film, and how the percentage of women in film is slowly decreasing over time. The article continues to say that we need more women in film, and exactly why we need more women in film and how it differs between men and women. I find the source reliable, as I can see the sources in the article. Although this is not exactly related to my music video theme, it’s still interesting as a woman in the film industry to read an article that are about people like me who are trying to make it in a male-dominated field.

Bini, Joe. "Sundance: Insight Into The Art Of Film Editing". IndieWire. N.p., 2015. Web. 6 Feb. 2017.

This article is a keynote from Joe Bini at the Sundance Film Festival about the art of film editing, and how film editing is where a film makes or breaks the cut. He also talks about how community influences film and that the way to do it is to be open and honest talking with each other about film and other things. I find this source reliable because it comes from a renowned filmmaker in the industry. I chose this article because it gives me a little bit of hope in my films and the future of filmmaking.

Braff, Danielle. "Special Effects: Movies Affect The Brain And Body". tribunedigital-chicagotribune. N.p., 2011. Web. 6 Feb. 2017.

This article talks about certain genres of film affect the brain and the body when people are watching them. They talk about genres such as comedies, 3D-films (which are up and coming), and horror movies, and then include what directors and editors put to make individuals feel the way they do when they watch the certain genre. I find this source reliable because it’s under the Chicago Tribune, which a known source throughout the United States like the New York Times. I chose this source because it’s interesting to see just how special effects affect your brain and influences your thoughts.

Buffam, Noelle. "Genre: Comedy - The Script Lab". Thescriptlab.com. Web. 6 Feb. 2017.

This source talks about comedy, and the subtypes of comedy and examples of comedic film. It goes in depth about anarchic comedy, action comedy, horror comedy, dramedy, and parodies. I find this source reliable because it’s from a known film website on the internet. I chose this source because it gives me an idea on exactly what comedy is about and how to go about it. I’ve never been able to create a short film/music video that is very comedic (most of my films are experimental), but knowing about how I could make something comedic would be great to add to certain videos.

Cox, David. "Film-Makers Have Lost The Art Of Making A Long Story Short". The Guardian. N.p., 2013. Web. 6 Feb. 2017.

This source talks about how although a lot of people are on a time-crunch and have HD cameras on hand, the art of making short films hasn’t become big in entertainment than it once was before. The reason for this is because people believe that the shorts aren’t usually worth the time and the view. I find this source reliable because it is on a reputable news source that a lot of people get their news and information from. I chose this source because as someone who makes a lot of shorts and short films, this is interesting and worrying to know.

Hardy, Robert. "This Simple Editing Technique Will Make Your Scenes More Dramatic & Powerful". No Film School. N.p., 2015. Web. 6 Feb. 2017.

This source talks about a simple editing technique taught in a film class called temporal compression in post production will make your scenes looks more powerful and professionally cinematic. It helps your B-roll look like it has more meaning than it really does. I find this source reliable because it takes the tutorial from a reputable filmmaking course led by a well-known editor. I chose this source because it could give my videos the extra push that it needs to look beautiful and have a deeper meaning than it had once before (like my Hallelujah Money video that I’m creating).

How To Add Letterbox Effect In Final Cut Pro X (Changing Aspect Ratio). 2017. Web. 3 Feb. 2017.

This source talks about how to add the letterbox effect in Final Cut Pro X to make your pieces look like cinematic movies. To add the letterbox effect is to change the aspect ratio, which is practically how big the black bars are on the video that you create. I find this source reliable because it actually has a video of the person putting their video in letterbox, so you can follow along and actually create it. I chose this because I’ve always wanted to create my videos in letterbox and knowing how to do this can make it look more professional.

Queen, David. "How My Obsessive Arrested Development Watching Helped Me Overcome My Anxiety - VICE". Vice. N.p., 2015. Web. 3 Feb. 2017.

This source talks about how watching the show Arrested Development help the author overcome his anxiety, using the show as his saving grace. The author wanted to know all the technical stuff that went on throughout the show, as he wanted to be a writer for films and TV shows. I find this source reliable because Vice is a well-known source that many people use to retrieve information everyday. I chose this source because although I’m making nothing like Arrested Development, I am sure that seeing how much a moving picture can affect someone’s mood can help me in my own films.

Raga, Suzanne. "12 Secrets Of Film Editors". Mental Floss. Web. 6 Feb. 2017.

This source talks about some secrets that novice film editors should know about when stepping into editing and post production. Some secrets include how editing can change/influence the film’s script, how introverts make the best editors, and how details are extremely important to them. I think that this source is reliable because it’s on a known film website. I chose this source because it related to me as an editor and I can get good information from the article that I never knew before, such as the detailing of a film or getting a job as an editor.

Kiyannah McGee & Serenity Harris Capstone

Posted by Kiyannah McGee in Capstone on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 11:30 pm

For our capstone (senior project) we decided to run a dance mini course. We started the mini course in quarter one and continued the mini course for all four quarters. We wanted to run a dance mini course because dance is something we are both passionate about. Not only that but freshman year, we were both in a “SLA can dance” mini course and we enjoyed it. We then decided that we would run a dance mini course ourselves. The way our mini course would work is in the first week, we’d play hide and seek as an icebreaker. Then throughout the next few weeks we would teach dance choreography and then give the kids a chance to choreograph their own little routine. The purpose of our mini course was to not only teach choreography to some of the freshman at our school but to also help them get more comfortable expressing themselves through movement. Although we had a lot of fun doing our mini course, there has also been some challenges that we had to face. A big challenge we had was not being able to continue dances that we wanted to continue because we would get new kids every few weeks. Since this has happened we were not able to completely finish dances like we wanted to, but we did get to dance enough to get on film and enough for them to learn something new. Overall, from our mini course the only thing I would change is our preparation. Our mini course was good but it had the potential to be better if we were more prepared going into each Wednesday.

The first source I found was an article called “Teaching Choreography - 4Dancers”  The citation can be found below. The article started by comparing a dance choreographer to a teacher.  This article is helpful to us because it explains the difference between choreographers and teachers.  It helped me to understand how although Serenity and I may be good dancers/choreographers teaching it to another group of kids is totally different. The article helped us out by explaining some techniques that can be used while teaching a dance.

"Teaching Choreography - 4Dancers." 2 Apr. 2013, http://www.4dancers.org/2013/04/teaching-choreography/. Accessed 6 Feb. 2017.

The next source that I found was found on a popular website “Nytimes.com”. The title of the article is “Dance; ABC’s of Choreography: Teaching the Unteachable”. This article compared the different styles of teaching when it comes to dancing. This article is a very helpful article because it helps us to seek more ways of teaching.

Anderson, Jack. "ABC's of Choreography: Teaching the Unteachable?" The New York Times. http://www.nytimes.com/1998/03/15/arts/dance-abc-s-of-choreography-teaching-the-unteachable.html The New York Times, 14 Mar. 1998. Web. 06 Feb. 2017.

The next article I read was titled “12 Traits of Terrific Dance Teachers”. The name of the article is really explains what the article is about. The article talks about characteristics that a terrific dance teacher would have. Serenity and I figured that this is a very helpful article to read because we want to be the best dance teachers that we can be. This was an important piece to me because I think being supportive is a good quality I have as person so being able to incorporate it in dance made me excited. This article was helpful because it gives us advice on how to be a good dance teacher.
"http://www.danceadvantage.net/great-dance-teachers/ Dance Advantage. N.p., 07 Jan. 2015. Web. 06 Feb. 2017.

The next article I read was posted on the Huffington post. The article was titled “A letter from your Dance Teacher”. This article was formed in a letter from a dance teacher. The letter is written to  a dance teacher from another dance teacher.  This article is a very helpful article because it discussed how we can become better dance teachers from the perspective of another dance teacher. I was able to make connections to some things that were said in the letter. For example, where it says “ You want to be great. You want to work. You want people to see all that you have to offer. This article is helpful because it gives us advice from another dance teacher’s perspective.

Beckford, Keesha. "A Letter From Your Dance Teacher." The Huffington Post. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/keesha-beckford/a-letter-from-your-dance-teacher_b_3319783.htmlTheHuffingtonPost.com, n.d. Web. 06 Feb. 2017.

The last article that I read based on techniques of teaching was an article posted by Edweek.org. The title of the article was “School integrate Dance into Core Academics”. The article starts off by comparing dance to photosynthesis. The article states “Photosynthesis may be an unlikely topic to inspire an opera or ballet, but in a 2nd grade classroom here recently, the children were asked to use dance to help them learn about that process.” Later on, the article continues by talking about how dancing connects to science and education. Since our school is a science school I thought this article was a very helpful article because it helps to compare the important pieces of my school to my capstone.

Robelen, Erik W. "Schools Integrate Dance Into Core Academics." http://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2010/11/17/12dance_ep.h30.htmlEducation Week. N.p., 06 May 2016. Web. 07 Feb. 2017.

This article begins expressing how beautiful and unique dance is as an art form. Some people still believe that dance is not a sport. As a dancer, I feel otherwise. Dance is no longer just a hobby or an afterschool activity. It is a profession that a lot of people get paid for. It is a hard profession to get noticed in. You have to be extremely talented and unique to get hired for the good gigs. The article tells how dance is a good way to express one’s emotions and feelings. There are so many different genres and styles that all countries contribute to."Different Types of Dances and Dancing Styles Across the Globe - Buzzle." 8 Aug. 2016, http://www.buzzle.com/articles/types-of-dances-and-different-dancing-styles.html. Accessed 6 Feb. 2017.

After doing more research, I decided to research the most common styles of dance her in the U.S. to get a more feel for what styles of dance we should teach. I then found out that the most popular styles of dance here are  Ballet ( including pointe ), Concert dance, Contemporary dance, Lyrical dance, Modern dance

And Jazz dance

I feel that this article is very important because it helps us to get an idea of what styles of dance that we should teach, Since Serenity and I both have a history with dance and different styles of dance the kids have different styles to chose from.

"Dance." Encyclopædia Britannica. Encyclopædia Britannica, inc., n.d. Web. 07 Feb. 2017.

https://www.britannica.com/art/dance/Types-of-dance

This article is about the different origins of dance styles. A lot of “partner dances”, or duets, are seen as just latin dancing. Little do most know that various amounts of latin dances have different origins and influences from different countries. Samba, as an example, is a Brazilian dance, but with African origin. Tap dancing is a form of dance pretty popular in North America in the entertainment business that requires special shoes and floors for the target sound. Tap was also a dance created by Africans, but during slavery times. It was a way to keep themselves and each other entertained.

"Types of Dance - Categories." Types of Dance – Dance Types, Categories and Styles. N.p., 2017. Web. 07 Feb. 2017.

http://www.dancefacts.net/dance-types/types-of-dances/

This next article is lists the Top 10, most well known, dance styles in the world. It starts off by defining dance and how it affects the people who do it. It is describes as a social interactant, an exercise, a profession, and a hobby. The article mentions that is also a way for people to tell stories and express themselves. The dance styles on the list are as follows: hip-hop, tap dance, yangko dance, belly dance, kathak, Gangnam style dance, Break dance/B-boy/B-girl, ballet, which also has its own styles, salsa, and line dance. I haven’t heard of some of these styles.

"Types of Dance - Categories." Types of Dance – Dance Types, Categories and Styles. N.p., 2017. Web. 07 Feb. 2017.

http://www.wonderslist.com/10-most-famous-dance-styles-in-the-world/

The last one isn’t really an article. It’s more of an informative section of a website used to help people who would like to take classes at this dance studio learn what the classes are about. It was a little confusing. It mentioned things in the contents that didn’t necessarily make sense or correlate with past knowledge of dance styles. “Dance revolution” is the name of the dance studio that created the website. They made a list, as the other articles have, that is as follows: Open, lyrical, ballet, jazz, acro, hip-hop, kinderhop, glee, conditioning, tap, pointe, and yoga. Each “style” has a brief description. The part that was bewildering was how glee, conditioning, and yoga were alleged “styles of dance.” None of those are actually styles of dance, two of which don’t even include dancing.

Kahsir Jones Capstone

Posted by Kahsir Jones in Capstone on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 10:34 pm

For my capstone (Senior Project) I chose do something with my hands. I wanted to build something that I knew the school would use years after I graduate. In our school we transport a lot of stuff around. Either it is equipment and supplies for the school workshop, or its furniture for the classroom. It is a lot of work transporting that stuff around our school. To make it easier we use these flatbed carts to transport a large variety of supplies and equipment around the school. The problem is that we only have about two or three of those carts in the school and we all have to share them. So I chose build another one for the school. First I had to create the design of my cart. I needed to know how high up I wanted it to be and how long it should be. The measurements were important because the cart would need to be able to get around the school easily and fit into the elevator. After working on the design I created the blueprint on what it would look like. I did this by using graph paper, isometric and grid type. Isometric was used to create a 3d blueprint and the grid was used for 2d. I drew the blueprint from three angles front, side, and top view. After I was finished with blueprints and design I was ready to start the final product. The first thing I did was build the frame for the handlebar of the cart. Then I cut out the platform for the flatbed of the cart. After that I created the handlebar by using a short piece of wood that I smoothed all around with a palm sander. After all the pieces were done being built I put everything together and I had a final product. I learned that building something is not as easy as it seems. In the process of it all a lot of things happens. Sometimes the measurements are off, or the supplies or damaged or lost. It is a long process and even longer when you run into problems, but once you finish your final product it is a proud achievement.

Michael Parkinson & Lyza Newbern 2016-2017 Capstone

Abstract:

For our capstone, we chose to utilize our city around us. Where we grew up and continue to live is very important to use, as it is a large city which many people aspire to visit one day. We wanted to utilize our city to create our lasting legacy at Science Leadership Academy at Beeber. Our final project was a website which high school students, adults, and visitors can use to find places to learn about the history of our city. Included in each page on the website is a source of the actual place so they can do additional research. As well as doing our own research we created an ideal walking tour which the visitors of the website can use as they please. This was actually an interesting experience for us because not only were we learning more and more about places in the city and the history around us; we began to feel like travel agents planning a families vacation in a city that we are used to. As well as creating the website and conducting research, we created brochures that could be handed out around the school and neighborhoods. We hope that you enjoy our efforts to spread the love for our city and its extremely interesting history!

To summarize the article it states that you must chose a topic or theme, plan a route and research the stories, places and people you want to talk about on the way. It is also important to note the length of the tour and choosing specific points of interest.

This book is all about how ethical it is for people to want to travel the world. He talks about the consequences of the trips that families regularly take, disney theme parks and beaches. It is just cool to see that other people are discussing traveling and sightseeing in ways other than how expensive it is.
