First off I want to say thank you to the goat Ms.Burrow-stone for being the best most motivational capstone teacher. This capstone process wasn't easy from the brainstorming capstone ideas, to coming up with a monthly plan as to how i'm going to finish this capstone, to dealing with time management and taking advantage of free tome. My capstone was supposed to be 2 seperate workouts to make sure the athletes of the school stay active. It then turned into a combined 2 week workout plan for male's and female's across the school to help keep them healthy. It benefits are community by keeping our community key factors on there toes in order to help better the community as a whole.

Capstone Project

Posted by Madinah Stokes in Senior Capstone · Burrows-Stone on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 1:24 pm

This is my capstone project. I did a series of interviews with people and listening to their stories on how their year went with virtual learning. I did a mix with college students and high school seniors. It impacted me by giving me the motivation to finish the school year out strong. It also helped the people in the videos talk about what they were going through. https://youtu.be/PAIHGbQ0bdk

For my Capstone, I made a video explaining the Exposure Triangle. The guiding question for my project was, "How can I help myself and others learn about the art of film without having the opportunities to do so?" I basically wanted to teach myself and others about filmmaking. I spent most of my time researching how the settings of the camera interact with each other. Which caused me to later learn that that knowledge is useless without putting it into practice with my own camera. Also causing me to change my project significantly. Originally the project would've been much broader, explaining other aspects of filmmaking like,” cinematography, lighting, sound; and post-production including sound design and editing. I clearly had no idea what I've signed up for. I cut it down to just the Exposure Triangle because of the aforementioned reason and it was easier for me to explain as I had no prior knowledge of filmmaking or how to use my own camera. Also, it's the starting point for anyone who decides to pick up a camera as a hobby or career, in my opinion. Through this process, I learned about reality and how to manage expectations because of it.

For my capstone, I decided to create a book that includes stories of immigrants students in SLA Beeber. I decided to create a book because books are one of the best ways to learn from and they could help us see things we think we know in an entirely different light. Each story in the book tells how the immigration process is different from one to another. The book included topics more than immigration, it included different cultures, regions, education, and the school system for immigrant students. The process of writing the stories was the hardest part. I had to do research for each different student based on their information and combine my additional research with their story. Overall, the project made me think critically. Developed my skills, my oral communication, public speaking, planning, organizing, time management, and goal setting. For this project, I have decided to create a documentary that spreads awareness about bullying. With this documentary, I hope to limit bullying by making people more aware of the long-term effects that bullying causes. During this process I have done a ton of research, not only on how to conduct a good documentary, but how to approach my interviewees, help people recover from bullying, good tips to overcome bullying and so much more. I have made a survey to get experiences from my peers and overall get a better understanding of how to approach the documentary. After all of the research I then moved on to interviews, I did a lot but only ended up using three. Lastly I edited my documentary and posted it! I learned not only about bullying and how it affects people but I also learned how to make an impact and reach a direct audience. I also learned more about time management, organization and how to research. I took a lot from this project and overall it was a great experience.

My capstone project was done on global warming and climate change. Specifically, what causes global warming and climate change and the long-term effects and potential futures based on the effects. My goal for this project was to more or less educate people my age or the people of generation z. Not only to educate them but also to bring awareness in such a way that they would want to approach this with the seriousness that the issue deserves. This is why I created a blog to help with this. The blog I created has 3 different posts and all three are different but connect to the central idea. The first blog post is about the causes of global warming that people do not really hear about, things you would have no idea have such an effect on the climate. The second blog post is about the main cause of global warming and climate change and how the lasting effects they have. The third and final blog post is about the future long-term effects if we continue to not approach these issues with a high level of concern. The blog post discusses future outcomes for what we should expect our world to look like. My capstone is meant to help my generation, generation z to really treat global warming and climate change with a level of seriousness that is needed. This could possibly help out future generations too because that is who we are really trying to help by solving these problems.

The purpose of my capstone project is to give students some insight into investing and how teens can take the first step to invest. I ended up making a website to display all I learned from investing and how to get started. On this website there are some tips to look at that can help you consider what you want to invest in and how to be smart with your money

For my capstone, I decided to make a slideshow and website for Dual Enrollment. The reason I decided to base my project on dual enrollment is that it's a great opportunity that students don't really hear about and miss out on because you don't hear about it a lot. I also thought it was a good idea because SLA doesn't offer AP classes. The process of this project was creating a slideshow to inform my peers what the program is and if they ever decided to go through with the process a website with some tips on how to manage college classes while still attending high school.

For my capstone, I decided to make an informational blog that talks about the importance of black female doctors, especially in today's society. It turns around the unfair bias that females physicians and black patients go through in the medical field. I know that many seniors are majoring in that field just like me, so it will also be useful for them to know what obstacles they may accounter. During my process a learn a lot of important details, I was able to do a lot of research and get information and facts from different sites to write my blog in a better way. I did spend some time on it so I hope that people will enjoy it. https://1drv.ms/p/s!AojJR4PhibIneVZTeFaIdqkzWg0?e=daI5e5 https://ydiop21.wixsite.com/my-site

Belle’s mission is to enlighten young black girls on the potential that lies right inside them through practicing the love of self, character development, and emotional intelligence: self-awareness and social management. For many years, black women have been victimized by society by being projected as over-sexualized, aggressive, bitter, and angry. Still, little does everyone know, we are Belle’s. We are made with nothing but pure beauty, elegance, leadership, love, and empowerment. Sadly, nothing is understood about the effect of derogatory stereotypes on black girls and women. In the lens of the media, communities, and ethnic classes, a black woman is held to a high standard of staying strong, displaying little vulnerability, and still being pushed to the sidelines of everyone's issues. There is little known information on the impact of negative assumptions on black girls and women. How can we transform our communities’ opinions by sharing and acknowledging a black girl’s experiences and demand attention to our mental and emotional health? Throughout the Belle Program, there have been major gains and setbacks due to the delays revolving around the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the three girls I've worked with have shown significant improvement in their self-awareness and emotional intelligence despite the pandemic. The initial idea for Belle was for weekly Zoom meetings and a final in-person meeting to create vision boards and participate in other fun activities. Regrettably, it did not go as intended, and as a result, I created my own vision board showing the representation of what Belle is.
