Classroom Re-Engineering: More Cleaning Products

Posted by Tyrone Hart in ENGINEERING 2 - Rae-Grant - y1 on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 11:22 pm

For my "Classroom Re-Engineering" project, I chose to work with Tajanae on more cleaning products for the classroom. Now although there are some types of sanitizers, wipes and napkins we have access to in the classroom, you can never have too many. Even though this would be a minor improvement to the classroom, it could go a long way. For example, if someone spills a drink on the floor but can't find a napkin to clean, the drink become sticky and can develop into a permanent or stain that's very hard to get out the floor. I feel as though getting something like more cleaning products would help because they would show signs of cleanliness in our school. Below are a couple specific products.

Classroom improvement

Hand Sanitizer

There’s been multiple times i've when to the hand sanitizer dispenser for hand sanitizer and there’s none in there and it really frustrates me. So what my plan is I want to put hand sanitizers all over over the classroom. I think it’s best to have hand sanitizer because number one it's more sanitary and we always have engeneering after lunch and some people be playing basketball or doing whatever and it makes their hands dirty. Also there is never soap in the bathrooms so personally I am always looking for something to make my hands more sanitary. This project will not take long at all , all i'm going to do is go to like a dollar store and purchase 5 hand sanitizers and we can place 3 out in the class and keep 2 hidden for when they run out.

Wall Outlet Braces

Posted by Devra Kleiner in ENGINEERING 2 - Rae-Grant - y1 on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 7:23 pm

Attention SLA@B Community!! Have you or someone you know tripped over a wall outlet that was pulled out of the wall, or have you actually pulled a wall outlet out of the wall? No? Well that’s okay! Mr. Rae Grant did (a few times)!

As you may or may not already be aware of, the wall outlets on the engineering/geometry room are not in the wall. They are mostly working, however they have been through months and possibly years of abuse from students yanking out their laptop and phone chargers, gradually making them less and less attached to the wall.

Currently, the outlets are not just loose or moderately broken, but are completely out of the wall, and are dangling by the wire running up the wall. One of them is even able to be as far as a foot from the wall! We obviously need to fix this problem, as it may possibly cause an electrical safety problem, not to mention people constantly trip over them.

What do we do? Our team - made up of Jack, Dior, Diamond, Mya, Marcus, Ali, Skylar and Yari - have found a solution!

Wall braces!

These will be placed on top of the wire which runs up the wall and is attached to the outlets. It will keep a sturdy hold on the outlets and keep them attached to the wall. To make these, we will use SLA@B’s Makerspace so as to add no cost to the school because we are using resources which are already readily available for student use. These braces will be approximately 1” x 1” and will be held together with wood glue, as that is a strong adhesive and it is a small figure. Later, hopefully soon, they will be screwed into the wall.

Though this is not complete right now, expect to see them on the walls soon!

Mr. Rae-Grant will no longer trip over these outlets!

Clean the tables to tape ‘em, the students that clean get extra cred.{not the tables the pockets within the tables, tape the pockets shut after the clean}

Team

  1. Amna Clean ‘em

  2. Michael Tape ‘em

The tables are very dirty and student needs better grades. Only tape and soap and water and a pair of hands are needed. The students that clean get extra cred. In addition, only one person needs. Every person after that gets the job done faster. Afterward tape the tables so they can’t not dirty ‘em again. We can’t remove and we don’t use so taping is the best. Glue is too sticky. This project can be done today. Once the tables are clean and taped then the success is real.

Classroom Re-Engineering

Posted by Salina Beattie in ENGINEERING 2 - Rae-Grant - y1 on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 8:15 pm

For our project, we decided to reconstruct and organize the back of the room. We felt like this would help not only our classroom itself but also be helpful to the students who may not be familiar with certain things in the back of the room. Below you will see some before pictures that show what we want to reconstruct/and or organize. Also We have a chart that explains our roles and what we are going to be doing. We weren't able to get pictures of the After because we weren't finish all the way. We should be by Thursday of this week.
