Food Justice

Posted by Jewel Lee-Johnson in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · 3b on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 5:43 pm

This is something that I wanted to raise awareness of as it's something that isn't discussed enough or rather, hasn't been improving in the past few years. Food justice or food insecurity has caused many problems for the working/lower class communities for a long time, it can be problematic because people don't have access to nutritious foods for their overall health and many stores, such as liquor stores are being specifically targeted towards them. We can't break the cycle of being labeled as poor people of color when the government and economic system are designed to keep us that way. We need to start changing things around here and helping one another. Grow some gardens and do food drives.

Indoor Pollution

Posted by Aniya Uqdah in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · 3b on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 7:17 pm

For my video, I wanted to communicate and bring social awareness to indoor pollution. Learning about it in class was very interesting to me. Whenever I think of pollution I think of the pollutants outside and how it affects people’s everyday life when it can be inside as well. When approaching this topic of toxic chemicals and gases, smoke detectors can help warn you. My thought was, in my house, our smoke detectors don’t work. I haven’t been using them for over a year and that’s dangerous to me. I’ve been exposed and inhaling fumes this whole time. I could be in danger. When covid-19 hit, we’ve been quarantining for a year now and we only been inside distancing ourselves. People living in a home have been using materials that can cause health issues and we had no notice of this. It’s scary and I’m glad I’ve learned about it. I wish this PSA was longer because then I can add more solutions and talk about quarantine. Now the summer is coming around we can open up windows for fresh air to blow through. The most meaningful thing was getting this message across. I want others to be aware of not only the pollutants outside but when you’re inside too.

Air Pollution PSA

The topic I chose for my PSA was air pollution. I feel like air pollution a big issue that can affect us all long term. For my video I will be using images of what causes the issue and images of the resolution. What I think I could have done differently was a tiktok, to give it a more fun look to my PSA

Food Desert

Posted by Nasir Wallace in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · 3b on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 2:50 pm

I decided to create a psa on food deserts in Philadelphia do to the alarming rates of obesity, diabetes and other health concerns. That have been increasing during hard times like the ones we are going through. During my research I used knowledge and resources from in class assignments, Philadelphia articles, and from my own observation from being apart of a food desert. Another thing that drove me to focus a psa on food desert is my family business. My family and I own a catering company, so we are around food all of the time. So we known exactly can be good and not to good for the body from time to time. With my research I noticed that I did well with explaining the imagery I showed in the background of my videos. One thing I could have done better I would say is if I was able to give more of a brief summary of my psa. The most meaningful part of my experience of creating the psa. Was to be able to read about the stories of young people in Philadelphia helping make a change. Getting the communities of all ages involved in farming and living a better lifestyle.

Air pollution

The video is really just showing off as a cartoonist style of what I wanted to explain as air pollution. Trying to help myself and others understand the situation and the problem with air pollution. I think I did well with the visual process and one thing I could work on is doing it without being in a rush to do it which does not make the project look all great.

Ami’n’s Food PSA

I chose the topic of Food Justice because I feel as though everyone should get a chance to be able to eat healthy and at a great cost. Eating healthy shouldn't cost us any money because all it is to it is recycling what we ate before to create new fruits and vegetables. In the low income neighborhoods it really did catch my eye that there aren't too many healthy choices and that's very concerning. People should be able to live a healthy lifestyle even if they don’t have the means to pay for it. They should be living healthy before anyone else. What I did well in my PSA was get out the information to get to others that really need it.I felt like I could have added more to my part two but I really didn’t want the information to be repetitive. The most meaningful part of creating my PSA was to make sure that I voice my opinion and to let people know that this isn't a game that is real and it needs to be changed.

Food justice

Posted by Samantha Sturkey in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · 3b on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 12:13 pm

I chose this topic because its not something that is talked about. Most people tend to judge people because they don't buy healthy foods but, a lot of the time they just don't have the money or resources to get healthy foods. Even though there i no direct link to the environment low income areas still suffer from poor water quality and that effects the environment. I think there are many things that we can do to try and stop food justice like find more ways to get affordable fresh foods. I think putting the video together is what I did well with this whole thing. One thing I would do different is maybe add a voiceover next time.

Food Deserts PSA by Fabiana Cajamarca

Posted by Fabiana Cajamarca in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · 3b on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 10:08 am

To start my video off, I decided to do a mini skit with my little sister and dog to show a potential situation of people who live in food deserts. After that, I go on to talk about what a food desert is and the number of people that live in one. I also decided to include a clip from PBS news that shows a supermarket being built in an area of North Philadelphia after a very long time of not having one. I chose the topic of food deserts because we talked about it a lot in class and it is something that I have never heard of before. I thought that it would be interesting to make a PSA making others aware that people have to live in places with no nearby supermarket. I am glad that I chose this topic because it opened my eyes to the subject and I learned many new things surrounding food deserts, especially in Philadelphia. I think that something I did well is being well informed on the topic that I chose because I did research on multiple different websites. I also think that I organized my PSA in a way that made sense and made the video flow as a whole. Something that I could have done differently is maybe being a bit more creative so that it could really catch the viewer's attention. I think that there were other ways to go about doing the PSA as well. The most meaningful part of creating this PSA was being able to inform others who may not have known about food deserts and how people have to live in them. I think that creating a PSA for this topic was very important because this is how situations like these are spread around. Overall, I enjoyed creating my video and I am content with the way the whole thing turned out.

Water Pollution By Alexander Reiser

Posted by Alexander Reiser in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · 3b on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 7:54 am

In summary, water pollution can affect and influence many things. From the politics and relations of different countries. To the health and prosperity of communities. Water pollution is a huge worldwide killer as well with an annual death toll of 500,000 and 297,000 of those people being children under 5. I chose this topic because even in our modern society people keep dying from diseases that were from polluted water. Water pollution is a form of pollution that people in Philadelphia especially tend to forget about or just not think much about it. I feel as though there needs to be more aware of the impacts of water pollution.
