Biodiversity and natural resources provide essential ecosystem services such as clean air, water, food, medicine, climate regulation, therefore biodiversity and natural resources are highly valued. Human activities such as, deforestation, burning fossil fuels, urbanization, and agriculture all play a role in altering earth’s natural systems. Individuals can, communities and nations can live more sustainably by minimizing waste generation, conserving water resources, promoting sustainable agriculture, protecting biodiversity, and supporting policies that prioritize environmental conservation and sustainable development. This project helped me further understand how many things play a role into the earth’s sustainability. The information that surprised me most was how many deaths happen in the tech industry.

What value do we see in the biodiversity and natural resources of the earth?

biodiversity is essential for environments to survive, natural resources are a part of that biodiversity. How will we have natural resources w/o biodiversity.

What human actions are associated with altering earth’s natural systems? How can individuals, communities and or nations live more sustainably?

Burning fossil fuels, using cars, having land fills of clothes, using plastic. I think if we use solar panels and thrift clothes the world would be a better place.

Reflection Questions:

How did this project deepen your understanding of sustainability?

I’ve always understood how important it is to be sustainable, but now I know that the little things add up.

What information about your chosen industry surprised you most? Why?

That the clothing industry uses a lot of carbon emissions. I didn’t think you had to burn anything to make clothes, I thought it was just sewing

How did you contribute to your groups project? Provide specific examples. What were you proud of, in terms of your overall project?

I did the slides and me and ava did the poster. I did all that in the span of 2 days.

Shahaad And Kennedy Sustainability Project

Posted by Shahaad Jones in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · C on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 11:50 pm

My group founded eco-care innovations. A healthcare corporation that prioritizes waste management as much as they do the well being of everyone that comes in and out of our doors.

We as people see biodiversity in such high value because it supports our environments (plants, animals, air), which directly impacts our way of life/lifespan. Certain human actions effect this such as water pollution as plastics not only kill animals but full habitats due to It being so hard to breakdown. As a result of certain animals /ecosystems dying, certain animals that rely on both as a food source are then forced to die off or eat their own species, which effects their own species in the long run. This lowers biodiversity because it shortens the variety of life due to killing off species. Individuals can live more sustainably by each analyzing individual eco foot print. An eco footprint is basically bread crumbs of how your actions effect the environment around you. For instance I could have a negative eco footprint if I’m driving an older model car to work everyday, that’s because the fossil fuels produce co2 in the environment which in turn leads to global warming. So just being aware and willing to change is enough. This project deepened my understanding by showing me how many forms of sustainability there could be. There were so many creative ways people chose to improve on an existing industry in a healthy way, it was baffling. The info that surprised me most about my industry is just how much wast is mismanaged per year. It’s crazy because it just shows how something so simple could be that harmful to our environment. Kennedy contributions: I made the model, going shopping and coming home to make my arts in craft project out of my shoebox Shahaad: I made the slides, with help from Kennedy researched and sorted all of my stats to create them all.

EcoCare Innovations

Posted by Kennedy Holman in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · C on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 11:42 pm

Biodiversity and natural resources provide essential ecosystem services, support livelihoods, and contribute to cultural, aesthetic, and scientific values. Things like Deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, overfishing, and urbanization are human actions altering Earth’s natural systems. individuals, communities and nations can live more sustainably by reducing consumption, embracing renewable energy, promote conservation, prioritize local production, implement eco-friendly practices, and foster environmental stewardship. This project helped deepen my understanding and allowed me to see and learn about all the unsustainable practices that take place in the healthcare industry that many people may not be aware of, we all see the healthcare industry as beneficial to us as people, although the healthcare industry benefits individuals by providing medical treatment, preventive care, and health education, enhancing overall well-being and quality of life etc, the healthcare industry has many problems within the industry that effects the world as a whole due to their lack of sustainability, one of the most unsustainable practices in the healthcare industry is their excessive medical waste generation, overuse of single-use plastics, excessive energy consumption, and reliance on non-biodegradable materials in medical equipment are unsustainable practices. For this project I created the physical model, and contributed to researching the problems and how we can improve the quality of the healthcare industry, and created the slides. I think we did really well with both the slides and the physical model along with our presentation, I think we thoroughly explained everything and represented everything well with our physical model and I am proud of the outcome of the overall project .

Shanya vance Q3 project

Posted by Shanya Vance in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · C on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 11:14 pm

Biodiversity and natural resources are very important to daily living. We need fresh water, healthy plants, and sustainable breathing air.People over fish, companies cause pollution, destroy nature, and alter resources causing climate change.People can make efforts toward becoming more eco friendly, lower pollution rates, and not mass buying/ producing items. The project educated me on harm to the environment that is overlooked. What surprised me the most was the amount of pollution the transportation industry contributes to the ecosystem. I contributed the main parts of our business plan and also came up with the name of our company. I am proud of how the slides came out I am also proud of how much detail I put into our business plan. The project educated me on harm to the environment that is overlooked. What surprised me the most was the amount of pollution the transportation industry contributes to the ecosystem. I contributed to the project by creating the entire business plan and also came up with the name of our company. I am proud of how the slides came out after my crucial adjustments . I am also proud of how much detail I put into our business plan.

Efficient Transmissions

Posted by Morgan Mcgoogin in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · C on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 10:51 pm

Hello All ! Me and my group created a business called efficient transmissions. Our business is to reduce the car usage and make sure our communities are better and safer. The Earth’s biodiversity and natural resources inspire us to value sustainable practices that benefit all living beings. Human activities such as deforestation, pollution are known to disrupt the Earth’s natural balance. Doing this project made me realize how important fossil fuels and green houses gases plays a big role the environment till I started this project. I did a lot for this project far as making the slides , buying the poster taking my time and energy and making sure everything is right for this project. Overall, i’m glad that me and my group were able to finish on time.

Stone Soup

Posted by Emma Westerfer in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · C on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 10:50 pm

My group created a sustainable food industry. We came up with a food truck Stone Soup where we go to low income neighborhoods who don’t have the best food and feed them for a low price.

I have learned there is much value that has to do with biodiversity and especially natural resources of the Earth. We can get so many sustainable and heathy resources that can keep humans, our environment, and animals healthy. When it comes to the different earth systems the way fore them to work and help us is if we help them. By keeping out land and waters clean, lowering out pollution rate, and advocating for everyone else to do the same. As a whole we can live more sustainable by doing a lot of little things that can make a huge different. For example walking or bike riding instead of driving a car or taking a bus. Using less fertilizers that can ruin the food we eat and hurt the animals. We can stop overfishing in our oceans so out aqua life is good. There are so many non expensive things we can do.

By doing this project I learned different ways that I can tweak my life to keep the environment more sustainable like I said above. Something that surprised me when looking into the food industry was the different fertilizers that were going on the food we eat and hurting the animals that also eat the food or the animals we are eating. they make our food unhealthy and dangerous. There are healthy sustainable fertilizers they could be using. In my project group I did my part for the different checkpoints na found a lot of good information. Me and my group mates collared on different visions of out final project and made them come to life. I created out sustainable garden.

Stone Soup Reflection

Posted by Nuria Reichert in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · C on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 10:44 pm

Biodiversity and the earth’s natural resources are crucial for the preservation of all life on earth. As biodiversity and natural resources decrease, ecosystems destabilize. Human activity plays a significant role in the altering of Earth’s natural systems. CO2 emissions from fossil fuels factories and cars, deforestation, overfishing, general overconsumption, agriculture, and monoculture are all examples of this. As individuals who are part of a larger community, there are myriad ways we can alter our consumption habits to live more sustainably. Consuming less plastic, utilizing public transportation over cars, composting food, and donating clothes are all examples of sustainable living habits. Moreover, advocating for policies to change the consumption and production habits of multi-national corporate entities that drive these environmental impacts, moves us even closer to sustainability.

Reflection:

This project has introduced me to an area of unsustainability that I was previously uneducated on. I feel more motivated than ever to adjust my habits to lessen my eco-footprint. I was especially surprised at the amount of environmental damage caused by overfishing, and the lack of access to sustainable foods in low-income areas.

Faith and I worked together to craft our group’s food truck. I am especially proud of the detail put into the explanation of our food truck, the hand-crafted produce, and our company name.
