Maiya Mangum-Global Water Crisis

The global water crisis is an environmental justice issue. The global water crisis is an environmental justice issue because it negatively impacts people who have a lower income and don’t have the resources to get clean and safe drinking water in this instance. Everyone needs water in order to survive and in certain areas clean and accessible drinking water isn’t attainable. Clean drinking water should be a fundamental right because it is something we can’t live without. I was most surprised by the creation of water loans because water should be something that is given but yet it is something that could potentially cause a financial burden.

Global Water Crisis Infographic Part II

What stood out to me about these communities without clean water is that many of these communities are less than 30,000 people. So the government doesn’t care about these people. I think the global water crisis is an environmental crisis since the environment is being affected.

Mujahid - Global Water Crisis

The global water crisis is an environmental justice issue because the water can segway into our rivers, lakes, and oceans. We are endangering species, putting our drinking water at risk, and jeopardizing our ability to swim and fish. Climate change is changing weather and water patterns throughout the world, resulting in water shortages and droughts in some areas and floods in others. This scenario will only worsen if consumption continues at its current rate. Two-thirds of the world’s population may confront water scarcity by 2025.

Global Water Crisis

What stood out to me was that Mexico created a water bottle brand for them and visitors so that no one gets ill from accidentally drinking the tap water.

Is the global water crisis an environmental justice issue? Why or why not?- No, it would not be environmental justice when you think of environmental justice it is something that can be prevented or an easier simpler way to fight the cause of the effect. Whereas a water crisis affects not one area or two, but many major parts of the city where it could grow out of hand. “Environmental injustice can be defined as the disproportionate exposure of Black, Brown, Indigenous, and/or low-income communities to environmental harms and risks, as compared to other communities, and its concomitant adverse effects on the health and the environment of those communities. Moreover, environmental injustice refers to the unequal enforcement by federal, state, and local government regulatory agencies of protective environmental laws, regulations, policies, and programs.”

Water Crisis in India - Hanan Daher

The water crisis is an environmental issue because it affects minority communities and the environment. Due to climate change, minorities are heavily impacted by the water crisis and are often neglected by the environment. When working on this assignment, I was most surprised by the solutions given to help communities in need of water. I did not know that water loans existed nor did I know that they could be so accessible.

Global Water Crisis - Gigi

What stood out to me is that a problem that should´ve been solved decades ago still exists to this day in India and other third-world countries. I see why that is as there isn´t a set-in-stone resolution for water contamination. This type of issue really shows the inequality in how water crises are dealt with and makes this an environmental justice issue.

Dylan Wright - Global Water Crisis

What stood out to me was the sheer amount of water pollution in India. I had also never considered that a water crisis could disproportionately affect women but apparently, it does. I am wondering about other ways certain groups could be disproportionately affected by water crises. The global water crisis is an environmental justice issue because it deals with equal access to resources and some people don’t have the same access to water as others,

Global Water Crisis

Is global water crisis an environmental justice issue? Why or why not?
I would say yes, it is an environmental justice issue. Seeing how much we, as humans and other living organisms depend on water to survive and function, when these global water crises happen, they can greatly affect water, which also greatly affects us because of how we borderline use water for almost everything and need it to function.

All politics matter. All politicians matter to each of us at the three levels - federal, state, city/county. Here is one example of excellence in getting to know their local politicians.
