Fatima Bamba Capstone

Posted by Fatima Bamba in Senior Capstone · Rosen-Long · ILP/TFI/CAP on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 10:36 pm
For my capstone me, Kitana and Zaniyah created a video for both seniors and upcoming freshman. Our goal was to create a video that connects with the senior class and how they have changed over the years. As well as showing how others can deal with high school and leave a legacy behind like the other classes have. For the research part of our project, we researched what a community really was and how it can affect the people around you. When we gathered information on a community, we wanted to ask questions that would relate to what students and teachers in our school thought of our community. We talked to the seniors so that the incoming freshman could see how it would feel like to be in the SLA community as well as the experiences that you could have. The advisors in the video were for the seniors and their final message to the class of 2019. I learned how important the community is and how much your high school experience and the people you surround yourself with can influence your life and help you grow as a person.

Blindness PSA

Posted by Fatima Bamba in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 10:20 pm
In this video, we talked about the public health issue of blindness. We chose this topic because we wanted to inform the public about blindness. My role in the group was recording our interview with the ophthalmologist. I think we did well with providing information about blindness. Our video is very informative. I think we could've tried to make our video more visually appealing. The most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA was learning more about blindness.

Emotion & motivation

Posted by Fatima Bamba in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 9:33 pm
My group did a project on emotion and motivation and how it affects the brain. I have learned a lot about the limbic system and how it plays a role in the physiological processing of emotion. I have also learned how the hypothalamus is an important emotional center of the brain.

Fast Plants Final Reflection

Posted by Fatima Bamba in Biochemistry 2 Honors on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 9:49 am
The F2 generation looks like how we predicted them. We expected the colors to be different since we took the seeds from the first generation to plant the second generation. The F2 generation grew faster than the parent generation. The first generation barely grew at all. Some of the factors that could have hindered our plant's abilities to thrive is how much we watered them. The environment and ecosystem effects organisms chances of survival. For example, many organism exhibit traits such as camouflage to hide from predators or conceal themselves from their prey in order to capture them. However, environments can change due to a multitude of factors, some being caused by human activity (burning fossil fuels, deforestation, pollution) and natural disasters. For example, the rock pocket mice depended heavily on their sandy and light colored environment, which blends easily with their light-colored fur. This was an advantage that they held when it came to predators. Yet, years later a volcano erupted, turning the sandy environment into dark molten rock. Due to this, rock pocket mice, light fur turned into a disadvantage. They were easily exposed to their predators, leading to the decrease of their population. However, if you look at pocket mice today, they have dark colored fur. Though this happened, it wasn’t the environment that changed the pocket mice phenotype but a genetic mutation that happened at a pivotal moment for the pocket mice population. When hypothesizing what an organism will look like. The greater indicator would be looking at the genetic makeup of the organism. Something that stood out to me during this course is how many things can affect a plant ability to grow. For example, how much you water them and the soil. Another thing that stood out to me is how fast our F2 plant grew. Our F1 plant barely made it we had to keep re-planting since our soil and wick would dry out.

Q4 artist statement

Posted by Fatima Bamba on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 9:27 am

My artwork is a replication of one of David Choe's painting, "David Choe Pyeong Chang Olympics Watercolors." David Choe is best known for painting murals, and graphic novels. My artwork is a figure skater. My current work relates to my previous work because I have done shade and texture in art before. Instead of watercolor, I did texture drawing. The materials I used when making this art was a 2H, 4H, and 4B pencils. I first drew a figure skater with a 2H pencil. Then, I used a 4B pencil to outline the shape of my drawing. After outlining the shape of my drawing, I used a 4H and 4B pencil to shade my drawing. I used a 4H pencil to lighten the parts that I wanted. I used the 4B pencil to darken the parts that I wanted. After shading my drawing I decided to use watercolor and paint the outline of my drawing to make it pop. The colors I used were white, flesh tint and magenta. A technique I experimented more with the process of making this work is shade and texture. I'm most proud of the way my artwork turned out. In conclusion, something I learned through the completion of this project is to use your time wisely.

Overpoluation

Posted by Fatima Bamba in Biochemistry 2 Honors on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 10:12 pm
I have learned many things while studying the ecology topic. The food matters campaign stood out to me because it allowed me to be more cautious of the amount of meat I intake. It also allowed me to see why food matters and how it can affect the environment. The thing I'm still wondering about is if we would ever try to reduce our intake of meat and help the environment.

Still Life Drawing

Posted by Fatima Bamba in Art 1 · Hertz · d1 on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 2:09 pm

For my quarter 2 project, I did the still life drawing because I wanted to try something different. For my project, I drew a candlestick and an orange. I want my artwork to communicate that it wasn't easy to draw this. My current work relates to my previous work because I have done shade and texture in art before. The materials I used when making this art was a 2H, 4H, and 6B pencils. I first drew the candlestick and orange with a 2H pencil. Then, I used a 6B pencil to outline the shape of my drawing. After outlining the shape of my drawing, I used a 4h pencil to shade my drawing so it will be easier to erase parts that I mess up. After shading my drawing with a 4H pencil, I used a 6B pencil to darken the parts that I wanted. An artist who makes similar work is Zheng Chongbin. He uses a lot of shade and texture in his drawings. A certain technique that's important to the work is using a softer pencil to shade the drawing, then going over with a darker pencil to darken parts that you want. A technique I experimented more with the process of making this work is shade and texture. I'm most proud of the way my artwork turned out. I really wouldn't change anything about my project because I like how everything turned out. In conclusion, something I learned through the completion of this project is to not waste all your time drawing your object because you're not going to have enough of time to add shade and texture to your drawing.

Portrait project

Posted by Fatima Bamba in Art 1 · Hertz · d1 on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 9:46 am

For my quarter 1 project for art, I did the portrait project. For my project, I have created a portrait of Pablo Picasso young mistress, Marie-Thérèse Walter. This artwork shows reflections of self. How we see ourselves versus how others see us. The reflection on the left represents how Pablo Picasso viewed his mistress as beautiful. The reflection on the right represents how she views herself as old and ugly.  I want the art to communicate as for how most people see themselves versus what they see when they look in the mirror. The materials I used when making this art was pencil, fine point sharpie, and color pencils. I used a pencil to draw my art and used a fine point sharpie to trace over my drawing. I used the color pencil to color my artwork. My current work relates to my previous work because I have used similar materials to complete my previous artwork. The first thing I did when making this artwork was I first drew my art in my sketchbook then traced onto a piece of paper. After that, I traced my drawing with a sharpie, then started coloring it. An artist who inspired me to make this artwork was Pablo Picasso. A certain technique that's important to the work is using darker colors for the reflection part of the art so it can have different meanings. A new technique I experimented more in the process of making this work was coloring. I really wouldn't change anything about my project because I like how everything turned out. In conclusion, something I learned through the completion of this project is don't rush take your time.

Q3 artist statement

Posted by Fatima Bamba in Art 2 · Hertz · b1 on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 9:44 am

For my quarter 3 project I decided to chose the limited palette because I wanted to try something different. For my project I  have created a pikachu because i wanted to draw something different beside a flower. My overall vision of my work is it turned out better than I expect it. I expect my audience to react in a positive way and I think that they will react in a positive way. What I think I’ve achieved through the creation of this art is mixing colors to get the color that I wanted for my drawing. My current work relates to my previous work because I have done it in art. One example of a piece of contemporary art that compares to my art is Spencer Finch because of his use of shapes and color mixture to make his drawing. The first thing I did when making this artwork is I first drew pikachu, then traced pikachu onto a canvas board. After that I traced pikachu with a sharpie, then I started to add color to the drawing. I had to pick three main colors then try and create other colors by combining the colors with each other. The three colors I chose were black, yellow and red. For my palette I had black mixed with yellow, black mixed with red and etc. This art piece really doesn’t express me. I don’t think my work could influence anyone. A new technique that I learned while making this art was making a color guide to create multiple different colors.

Value, line and texture drawing

Posted by Fatima Bamba in Art 2 · Hertz · b1 on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 12:25 pm

For my quarter 2 project, I decided to do “Value, Line and Texture Drawing” because I wanted to challenge myself with new art drawings. My overall vision of my work is it turned out better than I expect it. I expect my audience to react in a positive way and I think that they will react in a positive way. What I think I’ve achieved through the creation of this art is how to add different kinds of texture to an art drawing. My current work relates to my previous work because I have done it in art. This project relates to contemporary art because artists have use value, line, and texture in their drawings. For example, Zheng Chongbin has used a lot of texture in his "Eroded Strata" drawing that he made in 2015. The first thing I did when making this artwork is I first drew the flower, then traced the flower with a black charcoal pencil and then I started adding different kinds of texture to the flower. A new technique that I have learned while making this art is more about shading and texture.

Quarter 1 Artist Statement

For my color wheel project, I decided to draw a simple color wheel because I didn't want to do anything big and I wanted it to be really simple. My overall vision of the work I did turned out to better than I expect it. I expect my audience to react in a positive way and I think that they will react in a positive way. My current work relates to my previous work  I have done in art classes because I have done a lot of drawing and painting in my art class and I also learn how to mix colors when I was in 5th grade. My work fits in with the current contemporary art because artists had to use the color wheel to learn the primary and secondary colors. My work fits in with the history of art practice because the color wheel was used to practice on how to mix colors. My work fits into a series of projects I have done because I have done the color wheel project in my previous art class. The artist that have inspired me in art is Frida Kahlo.  Throughout the whole process of my project, I have gotten better at learning my primary and secondary colors and I have also gotten better at mixing colors.

Electric Art Project

I decided to use a charger for my project because it is important to me, and it’s also an important part of cell phones. A charger is important to me because it can be a lifesaver for your cell phones. Without a charger you wouldn't be able to charge your cell phones if the battery drained to death, and I know for a fact everyone hate when their phone is dead because they can’t do nothing about it until the phone is charged.

Street Art

Posted by Fatima Bamba in ART 9 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 11:08 am
The meaning of my art piece is that anything can be art.

There's really no meaning of the art I created

My art is inspired by the people who like doodle drawing.

I chose the location I did because I think it fit in with the other art that's on the wall

This project change my perception of art because I didn't now anything can be art.

This project really didn't change my perception of art I see while I travel around the city.

Social Media Survival Guide

Posted by Fatima Bamba in TECH 1 - Hertz - a2 on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 9:30 am

On online I’m nice to other people that I don’t even know, and I appear online by being nice on other people page and showing love on their page by liking their pictures and commenting nice stuff, for example like instagram. I think people perceive me as cool and a nice person. Before posting I think carefully about if the picture is appropriate and do I really want to post it. The pros and cons of sharing online is that what you post online can really have a bad effect on you. Lack of Control, Permanence and Immediacy have an impact on our online lives because you can start being a different person online than your real character. Your company should do a social media background checks because the potential employers will represent you and your company. Free speech is basically having the right of saying anything without the restraint of the government. Violation of copyright rules and commercial speech is protected by the first amendment. Crimes that is involved in a speech is not protected by the first amendment and also threats is not protected by the first amendment. An internet stroll upset people by posting stuff that are violent and other stuff that will make someone feel bad. The goals of internet trolls is to make people comment on their post and like their post. We can stop “trolling” by not commenting on their post. The pros and cons of posting anonymously online is people don’t know who you really are and you can still get bully. My top 3 tips to anyone who uses social media is always be careful of what you post online, always be in the right mood and always make a decision before posting.
