Jasmine Bailey's Capstone

Posted by Jasmine Bailey in Senior Capstone · Roy · d2 on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 8:58 pm

My capstone was centered around the following guiding questions, What ways can we better support young entrepreneurs? What information can we help entrepreneurs obtain that’ll benefit their business skills? In what ways can we bring together young entrepreneurs and make them collaborate? 2 of my classmates and I, who also have businesses of our own, hosted a “Boss Brunch” at Merion Botanical Park where we found vendors that were interested in marketing, networking, and socializing with other young entrepreneurs. Having to find a place for the event, vendors, speakers, a caterer, and get a permit for the park. We charged a $25 vending fee and used the money to pay for tables, chairs, decorations and other things we needed. Providing food and drinks, allowing every business to set up and sell their items and also gain words of encouragement from a few experienced entrepreneurs we found through social media and personal connections. There was also a photographer who captured all the memorable moments at our boss brunch. I learned that even the most successful people have been at the point I’m at now. Everyone left supporting new businesses they didn’t know before the brunch, exchanging social media handles and creating connections that are continuing to last after the brunch. Bringing the young entrepreneur community together and allowing them to connect with each other is the best way to support them because you relate to a group of people just like you and help uplift and support each other.

Excessive Heat PSA

Posted by Jasmine Bailey in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · E on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 8:08 pm

Our video was to act out how many minority groups and communities are dealing with excessive heat and we also went into detail about how many people in Philadelphia are impacted by excessive heat and also the effects that it has on people and the actions that can be taken to resolve the issue of excessive heat. We also explained what it was and how it isn’t common in everyone’s life and not everyone is educated and understands what it is.

We did well will scripting out something that was realistic and making it easy for people to envision how it would be with people from different places in reacting while living with different issues. We also did a good job with being creative but also informative. We could’ve explained more about what excessive heat actually was rather than just acting it out.

The most meaningful part was coming together as classmates and creating the video, it was fun to act it out and edit the tiktok with my group. Also, creating the script and combining ideas was important and meaningful to me.

Jasmine's Global Water Crisis (Mexico)

Posted by Jasmine Bailey in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · E on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 9:09 pm

Before researching more about the water crisis in Mexico, I didn’t even know the government took action in doing things such as creating “artificial rain” I did’t know that was possible and I found that interesting. I also found it interesting that there are so many different water crisis around the world that aren’t being addressed and are worsening. With water being such an essential, I think these water crisis’ needs to be taken more seriously. I do believe the global water crisis is an environmental justice issue because the definition of environmental justice is the fair treatment of all people despite race, income, origin and the enforcement of environmental laws. I think These water crisis’ are being overlooked in certain minority groups and there needs to be actions taken that’ll prevent these countries from having to deal with such a problem such as not having clean or even enough water. There need to be laws put in place to protect and support those that have been dealing with water crisis for more than a certain amount of time, if any time at all.
