Marian Heredia Capstone Aziz 2019

Posted by Marian Heredia in Senior Capstone · Aziz · ILP/TFI/CAP on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 1:06 am

For my capstone, I decided to make a PSA about why people should adopt their animals from the shelter and not buy from any breeders or pet shops. I’ve always been an animal lover since I was born. I’ve even thought deep and hard about going into a career with animals such as a vet. Deciding the topic for my project wasn’t hard at all and this is even one of my favorite projects that I’ve done in my high school career. The process for the project wasn’t too hard to do since I enjoyed it. We researched a bunch online about puppy mills and pet shops. I also went in person to the SPCA and interviewed an employee there who also gave us a lot of good information which is shown in my presentation. Our final product ended up being the slideshow with all the information we learned, and it also includes a video interview and a montage of all the animals at the shelter.

During this project I was a producer, editor, and interviewer. I think I did very well on everything. And, I actually liked the topic we choose because I think we had a very important message. Economy, politics, and our society play a big part in our healthcare. I mean, look at the recent arguments about whether vaccines are toxic or not.

I learned a lot throughout this benchmark. I didn’t know that doctors would induce people into comas.

In our project we did the sport track and researched how it affects the muscles and connective tissue.

fast plants reflection

Fast Plants Final Reflection

The F2 generation did not look how I expected them to look. The parent generation grew a lot faster. I think what hindered our plants ability to survive was that we mixed up our seeds and it was the cross pollination part was difficult. The genetics will affect the phenotype of the plant depending on what the parent generation was. A greater indicator of how an organism will look is if you make a punnett square which will help you predict the outcome of a particular breeding experiment. This course what stood out to me the most was our last benchmark for quarter 4. I really enjoyed it a lot. I also liked learning about the different ecosystems and biomes, and how we are affecting them.

I liked completing this project a lot. I learned a lot more about the impact that we have on the ecosystem. I enjoyed being able to create a 3D model which is different from the usual slideshow, or video. What stood out to me was the fact that we are damaging grasslands with farms. I didn't know this was happening, in fact, I thought that the farmers were helping the land and taking care of the ecosystem around it.

The project that we were assigned this quarter was to make our own personal website. To complete this project, I first picked a website that would generate a website for me. I ended up picking Weebly to use to make my website. Then, I began to make the required pages that were needed such as Home, About Me, Contact Me, Resume, and Project Page.
A failure that I encountered while creating my website was attempting to upload a file of my resume. It wouldn’t upload correctly and kept giving me an error page. Until, it worked after trying many times to upload it. I was an expert at doing this project because I have already taken this class last year. Throughout this project, I learned how creative I can be. I wouldn’t change anything because this is already the second time that I am doing my project.

Written Reflection, Q4

Posted by Marian Heredia in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 2:04 pm
In quarter 1, we were assigned to make our own personal website to advertise ourselves to job offers, or schools. People choose different websites to use such as wix.com, weebly.com, etc. I choose Weebly. It was fairly easy to use, and I was able to make my website. It was a bit hard for me to make my website unique, and visually appealing. The project was successful for me. I was able to include all of the main points. Although, I wished I had spent more time into making it look more intriguing and putting more pictures up on it.
The project I choose in quarter 2 was to photoshop an image. I photoshopped my principal’s face onto the Mona Lisa. I used the program Adobe photoshop. My overall vision was to make it look like Mr. Johnson was the Mona Lisa. It was difficult trying to blend their skin colors together. Overall, the project was mostly successful.
In quarter 3, I did 3d modeling. I choose to make a piggy bank. It was a little difficult to find the right pieces and shapes. Then, I had to make them all stick together the same, with the same exact angles, and measurements. My vision for the project was to have a piggy bank that didn’t roll around and you could stick coins into. At first, I had trouble trying to put legs onto the piggy bank. It was difficult having the two front legs align at the exact same measurement, same for the back legs. The project was successful for the most part, except I was never able to 3D print out the piggy bank.
My high point of learning this course was when I used Adobe Photoshop. I learned how to blend two pictures together and make them look like one image. I also learned how to change the temperature or color of the picture. An area of growth that I had was being a bit more creative. In the beginning, when I first created my website, it was a mess. Now, with everything I’ve learned I believe I could make some tweaks to it and have it look more aesthetically pleasing.
Outside of class, I can use use what I’ve learned about making a website to make my own blog or website. I can also use photoshop to make a logo or design something for a business. Next year, we should learn more about html and coding. I believe it would help any kids that would like to go into computer programming.
My first tip that I have would be to always submit your checkpoints on time. My second tip would be to use what you learned in class outside of it. My third tip would be to choose a project that you would like to do.

3D Modeling

Posted by Marian Heredia in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 1:06 pm

I have attached a link to a youtube video of my 3d model I did on tinkercad. The project I choose to do this quarter was 3d modeling. This project allows us to create an object that can be printed out with a 3d printer. You can design it on your laptop and then have a physical object be printed out. I was hoping to learn how to make something online. First, I brainstormed of what I wanted to do. I thought of making a piggy bank, because it seemed fun and why not. So, I started picking the shapes that would fit to make a piggy bank, like a sphere for the body, a ring swirl for the tail, bumps as eyes, etc.

A failure, that I encountered while designing the piggy bank was not making feet for it. To work around this, I tried to make an indent sorta on the bottom of the pig, so that it wouldn’t roll around. I learned throughout this project, that it’s very time consuming to get all the parts right, equal, and make sure they are connected correctly. Something I learned about myself while completing this project is that, things are much more exciting when you’re creating something yourself. If I had to do this project all over again, I would have started by making the legs of the pig first. If you want to try this project, I suggest that you use tinkercad, it’s very easy to use for beginners and to create basic things, but if you want to make something else more advanced maybe you should give a look at other programs.

Quarter 1 Project Statement

Posted by Marian Heredia in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at 4:01 pm

The project that we were assigned this quarter was to make our own personal website. What I had hoped to learn with completing this project was how to create a personal website, and code it.To complete this project, I first picked a website that would generate a website for me. I didn’t have much technical errors but, I did have trouble with being creative. A couple of things that I learned while creating this website were how to make my own resume, and make a contact page. I learned that I need to get out the house and do some more activities because I didn’t have much to put on my resume, and it was sad. If I were to do this project all over again, a couple of things I would do differently would be to spend more time decorating, and finding pictures to put up on it. A tip that I have for anyone else that would be attempting to complete this project would be to try to be very creative and add their personality to the website. This project inspired me to be creative, and productive with my free time. In this project the message dictated the medium because the information wouldn’t change no matter what.
