For this capstone, we decided as a group to make something that summarizes and symbolizes our 4 years at SLA. It took us a while to figure out what exactly it was going to be, and we had trouble deciding which direction we should take our idea. After continuous discussions with each other and different ideas being presented, we went forward with the creation of a short book. A book was a way for us to show the experiences that we had together at this school for 4 years, but in a fictional story. There was input and feedback from different mentors that aided us in the process, each helping in various ways.  For the book, we wanted to create an accurate picture of what life is like at SLA from our point of view, while using the feedback of others to create a second story during the presentation. Our school is different in everyone's eyes, and this project illustrates that.

Mercury Poison PSA

Posted by Makyle Wyche in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 10:05 pm
This video is about mercury poison, and why people should be aware of it. Many people do not know the dangers that mercury poison has, and this video is a public service announcement to my peers who do not have an idea about what it is. It's a very important topic today, and it's affecting more and more of us by the day.

For this project, I was a large part of writing the script, and documenting how  the video should look. My group and I all played an important part in the creation of this project.

What we did well was look for vital information that most people could see as important. What we could have done better is add more quantity of content to the video.

The most meaningful part of the experience with creating this project was learning new facts about mercury poison that I had previously not known.

Reflection:
After reading about typhoons and other natural disasters, I'm thinking a lot more about where I decide to go to school or if I plan on moving down to a more southern area. Hurricanes and tornadoes are present more in places like Florida and Texas. If you live there, a risk of having to deal with a catastrophic event like Hurricane Harvey or Hurricane Irma is always present.

Essential Questions:
The Earth systems build upon each other. The pollution in air can cause an affect on water becoming warmer for example.
An understanding of environmental science can aid in helping handle natural disasters by having more educated people in general. A lot of people are in the dark about certain things, and if we have a common understanding, evacuations and limits on damage can be worked out easier.
Efforts we can make to create a sustainable future are limiting air pollution. Stopping the burning of gases and other things are very important if we want change.

Poesía Project

Posted by Makyle Wyche in SPANISH 2 - Moran - A on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 1:20 pm
For the poem project, we had to pick a poem from a poet that was listed on the project description. Along with that there were many writing components. There was a summary for the poet, a short description for successes/achievements in your life, include the poem that you selected, write a short description of the themes in the poem, and write a poem of your own based off one or more of the themes in the poem.

I had some trouble writing everything in Spanish, but it ended fine. I had everything that was required. The poem was the most fun apart about the project. I enjoyed finding the themes and I enjoyed writing my own. I worked hard on this project, I think my grade should've been higher.

Nombre: Makyle Wyche Banda: A Band

Mis padres trabajaron duro a criarme. Lograr éxito voluntad hacer mis padres feliz. Yo debo que a mis padres.

Un Poema de Mario Benedetti:

No lo creo todavía

estás llegando a mi lado

y la noche es un puñado

de estrellas y de alegría

palpo gusto escucho y veo

tu rostro tu paso largo

tus manos y sin embargo

todavía no lo creo

tu regreso tiene tanto

que ver contigo y conmigo

que por cábala lo digo

y por las dudas lo canto

nadie nunca te reemplaza

y las cosas más triviales

se vuelven fundamentales

porque estás llegando a casa

sin embargo todavía

dudo de esta buena suerte

porque el cielo de tenerte

me parece fantasía

pero venís y es seguro

y venís con tu mirada

y por eso tu llegada

hace mágico el futuro

y aunque no siempre he entendido

Viajar Project

Posted by Makyle Wyche in SPANISH 2 - Moran - A on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 8:51 am
For the Viajar project, we had to create a travel company and travel packages to go with them. The packages were of 5,7, and 9 days. You had to create a prezi/presentation that includes a total price of each package, where the people go, activities that are included in the package, flight times, and much more. A brochure that includes each package, a company logo,  and pictures. Lastly, you had to include a commercial advertising the company and packages.

I enjoyed creating this project for the most part. However, my group could have done better. We worked hard but not hard enough. Our grade for this project didn't fully represent how hard we worked. It had some flaws, but it was done well.

For this project, my group and I each did separate parts for a weather broadcast. For example, Asmar was a meteorologist. Each one of us wrote a script about our segment, and we recorded it. It was all in Spanish, and it looked like an actual news broadcast. I personally enjoyed this project, but time management was an issue. Due to us not being at school for two days, and having only two class days to record during the week, we had to rush to complete the videos. If we did not miss school, our video would have not been rushed, and we would have gotten a better grade. That however, won't happen again.

Dia De Los Muertos

Posted by Makyle Wyche in SPANISH 2 - Moran - A on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 11:17 am
For the Dia De Los Muertos project, I wrote about my grandfather. It wasn't hard for me emotionally, even though he passed away less than a month before. I enjoyed reflecting on his life. It was fun and went well. It was one of my favorite projects so far.

English Reflection

The person that passed away is my grandfather. His name was Louis Wyche Sr. He was born in August of the late 1930s, and lived until October of 2015. I loved my grandfather very much. He meant a lot to me and my family. At family reunions and events everyone loved seeing him and speaking with him, he was a really cool guy. He came to Philadelphia when he was 19, leaving his wife (my grandmother, I’m not sure of they were married at the time) and his newborn baby Louis Wyche Jr, which is my uncle. He left his hometown in Tallahassee to come to Philadelphia to find work and a home for his family, which he did quickly. He found a job at  an industrial factory, and he ended up working there for over 30 years I believe. He found a home in the Germantown area of Philadelphia, on Crowson Street.  He lived at that home until his death. It was known by some as the ‘Wyche’ Home, and my grandfather was the head of the home, and was often referred to as ‘Mr. Wyche’.

My grandfather meant so much to our family and to me. His death was so devastating, everyone in the family shed tears and were beside themselves after hearing the news. I was at home when I found out, others were at the hospital. His death was extremely hard on my grandmother, he meant the world to her. They were together for over 50 years, and had 6 Children together. She lost so much when he passed away. For me, I lost a lot also. I loved my grandfather, his death hurt very much. I always would have fun talking and hanging out with him. He was a very funny man and we had a lot of fun together. He was someone that always enjoyed life even when he was sick for a while, and that made me want enjoy my life even when things were going bad. Even though i stopped seeing him as much as I got older, it was still awesome to talk with him and see him when I could. My grandfather was one of my favorite people in the world, when he died I lost that.

For my sugar skull and mask I decided to incorporate my grandad’s life into it fully. On the mask I had yellow teeth. My grandfather didn’t have real teeth when he died, and didn’t for many years, but when he did he had yellow teeth. Also, I had a lot of green and red on the mask. This is very important to my grandfather's life for many reasons. One is being his love of the holiday Christmas. He loved Christmas and getting and giving presents, and the Christmas colors are green and red, that is one reason that I added red and green. Another reason is his love of the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies. The Eagles colors are Green and White and the Phillies colors are Red and Blue. He loved both of those sports teams very much, and before he lost his vision he would watch them all the time and enjoy it a lot. I am a fan of both of those teams also, and I sometimes watched the games with him. The team colors are why I have red and green on the mask. The skull has red and a dark blue or purple. The red is added to the skull as well because red was one of his favorite colors. The blue or purple is for the flag of his original hometown of Tallahassee. I could not find the exact color for the flag, so I used the closest color I could find. I added that to represent a big part of who he was, and a big part of him is his hometown. Even though he lived most of his life in Philadelphia, Tallahassee is where he met the love of his life, my grandmother, and I added that to represent it.  The way the skull and mask reflects my grandfather is that everything added was important in his life. The red, green, yellow, and blue/purple  for his favorite holidays, team's, colors, teeth, and hometown. All of these reflect who he was as a person and what he loved when he was living.

“Día de los Muertos” has opened my mind about celebrating deceased loved ones a ton. Before I did not think about celebrating in any other ways than a funeral. This project made me realize that my family does actually celebrate our deceased family members, and I think it’s great. After doing this, recording the eulogy, making the mask and skulls, I want celebrate my deceased family members even me.

Spanish Eulogy:

Yo soy Makyle Wyche. Yo visito a veces. Su muerte me hecho triste. Yo extraño el muchísimo. Mi abuelo fue un gran hombre. Yo encanta mi abuelo muchísimo. Que en paz descanse.

Jessica Slachta and I did a college interview about Purdue University. I was the interviewer, and I interviewed Jessica. It didn't go that well. It was last minute, and rushed. If we taken time management more serious, our video would have been even better. It was just meeting expectations.

Makyle & Tilly's Light up Air MAx

Posted by Makyle Wyche in PHYSICS 1 - Gray - C on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 12:29 pm

We chose this  project because we wanted to see if we could make light up shoes. We wanted to see if it was possible to make light up shoes so we took a nike air-max sneaker and stuck lights through the inside of the shoe and through the bottom of the shoe. We had some trouble early on, but in the end, everything with the shoe turned out okay.

Shoes and sneakers are very important to us, so we wanted to choose something that connected to us personally. We decided to choose an older shoe, like the Air Max, because we weren’t comfortable with using a shoe that we currently wear. We’re glad we chose the Air Max sneaker, because we indeed took apart the shoe.

This physics project has increased our knowledge of physics, along with our creativity. At first, I, (Makyle), was in no desire to complete this project, but after completing it, I’m glad that we got the opportunity to show how much physics we know, along with showing how creative that we truly can be.

I chose this image not because it says Microsoft, but because it says Internet. On the internet, you have a freedom to say what you want. Along with that freedom, comes responsibility. You should be responsible with what you say on the internet, and that is what I was trying to say on my post. Words are powerful, so don't use that power to do harm.
