Sustainable Business and Resource Management

Posted by Collin Shaw in Environmental Science · Aziz · C on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 11:17 pm

Earth systems affect each other because they all rely on each other in one way or another. In our case, the biosphere and the geosphere affect our business and it being sustainable because if our restaurant treats the geosphere and biosphere like trash it will result in the downfall of the communities that surround the restaurant. So for the restaurant to last in the community, it needs to treat the surrounding area with respect. Our business doesn't really deal with natrual disasters but we can severly hurt the environment by using up tons of energy and resources. So to make our restaurant sustainable we will recycle, limiting pollution, and manage our resources. If more and more restaurants follow our plan things like plastic straws(which severely hurts the environment) will become a thing in the past. By doing this project it opened my eyes and showed how restaurants can hurt the environment if they are not careful with their management of resources and uses of plastic.

Sustainable Restaurant!

Posted by Keith Corbin in Environmental Science · Aziz · C on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 11:00 pm

This quarter my group members and I all came together to see how we can make a sustainable restaurant. Sustain means to keep or preserve. For our project we decided to do a restaurant because they are very popular. With that being said we created a sustainable restaurant which will allow humans to use more natural products and save the products that we will need in the future. We decided to make all of our products recyclable and natural. Our refrigerator and oven are both energy star products which are great for the environment. We decided to only give people water if they ask for it. This project went very well, and it gave me the opportunity to actually see how important it is to sustain our resources.

Sustainability Resturant

Sustainability is being able to maintain a stable life. As a group, we choose to look at the effects restaurants have on our environment. This industry affects all of us because we all go to restaurants and how they affect the environment and their surrounding community is important because their production of goods can hurt the environment. Some natural resource that can be used in our sustainability is to use natural ingredients to make their cuisine. Also, depending on where they put their restaurant they will need land to build, electricity, and water so they can cook, clean, and for plumbing. Some of the ways in which ecological systems depend on energy inputs because individual organisms rely on a continuous input of energy in order to survive, grow, and reproduce. Scientists keep track of inputs, outputs, and changes to complex systems by keeping data of every system.Natural systems change over time and space due to the negative contributions humans are doing to our earth.

Super Foods: Enviornmental Science Benchmark

Posted by Joseph Culbreath in Environmental Science · Aziz · C on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 10:34 pm

1. How do Earth systems affect each other?

- Earth systems affect each other in alot of different ways. They generally affect each other by transferring energy between each other. For example, a human (a member of the Biosphere) takes in oxygen from the Atmosphere and uses it.

2. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future?

-We can make a lot of changes to help create a sustainable future. I think that the main thing that we can do is try our best minimize waste creation.

Car Industry

The earth systems affect each other based on the duties they have and how they interact with each other. Earth systems are atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and geosphere which all play a role in protecting one another and passing down energy. If we didn't earth systems it will be hard for Earth to manage itself such as atmosphere which protects us from solar rays, circulates gases for animals to survive, and it's responsible for our weather. When learning about natural disasters and the effects on weather you would mostly see people target ways on how we aren't helping such as causing pollution, littering, or not recycling and I think it's best that we try to make the earth a cleaner place.

NSSAH (Healthcare Industry)

Posted by Karrine Tucker in Environmental Science · Aziz · C on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 10:01 pm

As we previously learned, when one of the Earth's spheres is altered it affects other spheres. The biosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, or atmosphere work in conjunction to make up the Earth System. The spheres change due to both natural and human influences. If people were better educated on environmental science it would in turn assist in the understanding of natural disaster. People would be able to identify what happens to the Earth's spheres during the natural disasters, how the spheres are affected, and how to better prepare for natural disasters. We are in charge of creating a sustainable future. Humans negatively affect the environment more than we may realize. We contribute to things such as pollution, climate change, global warming, extinction of animals, etc. A few efforts we can make in creating a sustainable future is avoid supporting products that endanger wildlife, drive green, reuse, reduce, and recycle. While doing this project I learned of the control we have in creating a sustainable future. The healthcare industry of course is recognized for all that it does for the people but many do not know of the negative effect the industry can have on the Earth. I can admit that before doing the project I wasn't aware of the way my industry contributes to things such as pollution. We came to the conclusion that the use of solar panels to generate reusable energy is one step the healthcare industry can take in creating a sustainable future.

Sustainable Technology

Earth systems affect each other because they all rely on each other to be successful. For instance, plants (biosphere) gets water (hydrosphere) and nutrients from the soil (geosphere) and then releases water vapor into the atmosphere. Without one system, the others fail. Getting an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters is very important because it could help us learn how to deal with the natural disasters when they happen which can save millions of lives. I think some efforts we can do to create a sustainable future is trying to make the world a better place to live in terms of making sure it's healthy. Doing things like recycling more, walking/riding bikes, and turning off electronics when they're not being used could go a long way in terms of making a sustainable future.

Sustainable Restaurant

Posted by Heather Lopez in Environmental Science · Aziz · C on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 5:18 pm

In our case, the biosphere and geosphere are the two main earth systems affected by how sustainable the restaurants are. Of course, the other systems are affected by this industry because they all connect in a way. Restaurants need a more useful way of recycling and managing resources. Because once all our resources are used up, what else is there to use? This isn't so much of a natural disaster, but it could eventually be one if we don't solve the environmental issues in the industry now. The main resource in the restaurant industry is energy. We need to power the business in order to cook, place orders, have electricity, and even power plants for the locally made crops. It's going to take a lot to restore the restaurant industry, so hopefully, I have the opportunity to help with that one day.

Food Retail Industry

Posted by Amir Leaphart-Curry in Environmental Science · Aziz · C on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 2:23 pm

How do the earth systems affect each other? The earth consists of a series of interconnected systems, like the Biosphere, Geosphere, Atmosphere, and Hydrosphere. These spheres interact and impact each other. The atmosphere protects the biosphere from high amounts of solar radiation. They also exchange energy, the biosphere produces gasses which warm the atmosphere creating a greenhouse effect. We heavily researched the greenhouse effect as our industry, food retail, contributes to dangerous amounts of greenhouse gases reaching the atmosphere and increasing global warming. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? As we seek to preserve the planet, we can take on many steps to ensure sustainability, from individual choices in our personal lives to broader action. One thing we can do is recycle and compost instead of creating enormous amounts of waste. From a broader scope, we could lobby for corporations to be accountable, to reduce carbon emissions, rely less on factory farming. Reaction: I was not surprised by how unsustainable our industry was, the information I discovered doing this benchmark compounded my previous conceptions of the food retail industry. But it has compelled me to be more conscious of my personal decisions of purchasing food. The earth systems are affected on the daily and we know we can reduce these negative affects. An industry affects the earth because it uses up all our renewable energy, pollutes our air, and pushes out oil into our waters. We will be using solar energy to get direct sunlight and act as fuel. We can reuse our clothes to stop wasting and can save money.
