Oil Spills

I picked this topic because its something that we do not hear too much off. I think we hear about an oil spill every now and then but it isn’t something that is constantly being talked about. We really don’t know too much about them. While putting the project Kelly and I both found information and pictures and we put our video together. I think that in our video, we just have some key facts so the video would probably be a little better with more info. Working IMovie was something pretty difficult putting it together because stuff would be deleting. The best thing is that I gained a lot of information that I did not know anything about. I think it was great that I was able to put it all together and able to present it to others

Air Pollution (Q2 BM)

Posted by Mason Norton in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A s1 on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 10:12 pm

For this project, we were given the task of making a PSA in some way to inform others about the dangers of something harming our planet. The thing we decided to focus on, is Air Pollution, something that is talked about a lot and seems to have a huge impact on our earth and even the ozone. Throughout this, I have learned a lot more than I already knew about the topic—before all I knew was that it hurt people, which is true, but there’s a lot more aspects to it than just the simple fact that it “hurts people”. There’s so much more into it, like it affects our foods, animals, plants, even animals that live within our oceans are harmed. Air is one of the essential things for living things to exist, and without that, and without our foods holding the basic high nutritions that we need, living things aren’t surviving too well, and so many people have been hurt or even have died due to the pollution within the air. Things I did in order to complete this PSA was complete a voice over to convey a portion of the things my group and I have researched. Something that I probably would have done differently is include interviews so that we could find out others opinions regarding the issue, and asking them if there was anything they would be willing to do in order to help. Also, something that seemed to be the most meaningful to learn within making this PSA is that I learned more than I knew. I thought I knew what happened, but there’s so much more, like said before, the fact that our food is also affected and also that our ozone was affected and maybe still is. It’s important to know more than just the basics so that you can see how serious it really is.

Air Pollution PSA

We start off as with an intro to get you prepared for the video. The skit plays a huge role in air pollution. We picked air pollution because it was something Na´ír really wanted to do. I played a big role in editing and making sure the cast was there to shoot the video. Also, I was one of the main leads. I feel like we did a great job acting. I think if we added more to our skit it would have been better. My editing skills were amazing! The most meaningful part was learning the impact that little thing that some of us do every day can cause big issues for other people.

PSA: End Food Deserts, Start a Community Garden!

There were an alarming amount of various issues that we could've picked from, but this topic, since we learned it, hit me. When I didn't live in Philadelphia, it was really hard to get groceries. The only store in town was a short drive, but when my mom was unable to drive it was a 45-minute walk. With three kids, it took a lot to feed us. I wish I was able to make a difference in the lives of those affected, I from first-hand experiences, know how hard it is to access fresh, good food. In this project, I took on many rules. I not only conducted all the interviews, but I also shot and edited the entire PSA. I had a lot of fun making the project, and I hope it will be enjoyable to watch as well. Next time, I won't take as many roles, it can be overwhelming but when you have vision sometimes you have to see it come to fruition. It was a wonderful project to work on with two good friends, and I hope for many more as we finish strong our 12th year.

Pick It Up Philly

Posted by Elijah Bey in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A s1 on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 8:52 pm

When able to discuss to many people in the school about litter we were able to find many similarities. Many people believe that we need to start putting out more trash cans. Many people don’t want to hold trash in there pocket so they may decide to throw it on the ground. Also when people see trash in the neighborhood they may think it’s okay for them to just throw litter on the ground but it’s not. We did very well on getting people in the video to answer the questions. The most meaningful part of this experience is to see if people may stop littering because now they see what they have done.

Littering PSA

Posted by Catherine Martinez in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A s1 on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 8:38 pm

The reason I choose to do littering as my PSA was because all over my neighborhood is dirty and covered in filth. Most people and not even I pick up the litter. It's not great, but I wanna start to change that since it cost more than $11.5 billion dollars a year to clean up litter each year. More than 50% of litter in the streets is cigarette butts, and Philadelphia is in the top 5 of the dirtiest cities. I live in this city and it's called one of the dirtiest cities in the country. That's a shame. Littering is one of the biggest problems in the country in general because littering is the cause of plastic in the ocean, if we don't do anything now there will be more plastic (litter) in the ocean than fish. My role in the group was to find the statistical information and to find what roles does littering have in Philadelphia. If there was something I could do differently, it is to make a longer script for our PSA because now we have gaps to fill in to reach the requirement of the Benchmark. Other than that, I wouldn't change anything, besides my favorite part of the project was making the video in general. It was fun shooting ideas at each other.

Our PSA is based on the amount of littering , therefore we interviewed students around our school community about littering. Many people don't like littering however if lazy they wouldn't care . We provided a great short PSA to inform people on littering . I provided information such as my other peers , we did well with the skit . The most meaningful experience was collaborating with others to make a better clean community.

Air Pollution

Posted by Chayna Holliday in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A s1 on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 8:29 pm

My group focused on air pollution for our benchmark. We chose this topic because it was the most interesting to us. In our video, we have a character contributing to air pollution. After our skit, we sit down and explain where air pollution comes from, what it can do to the earth, and how it affects people. I contributed to the topic by finding research and writing my lines. Something that we well was everyone remembering their lines. Something I would want to do differently is recording on a less windy day. The most meaningful part was helping Nair's character quit smoking to help air pollution and his lungs. Another meaningful part of the project was learning new things about air pollution and its effects. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn9Ok8NLZmw

Light Pollution By:Nya& Qualee

Posted by Nya Hardin in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A s1 on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 5:46 pm

Nya- This PSA is about light pollution. It includes multiple facts about why light pollution is an issue in current times. It also provides good tips for how one can help prevent it. We chose this topic because it isn't often mentioned. It's also an issue that is created by humans. I helped direct, film and create the video. I did a good job directing but I could've added more examples of how one could prevent light pollution. The most meaningful part of this process was going downtown to see all the lights.

Q2 Benchmark: Light Pollution

Posted by Qualee Bentley in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A s1 on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 5:38 pm

Reflection: We did our PSA on light pollution. In the video, we explain what light pollution is and what causes it. We also explain the effects of light pollution and what we can do to help fix it. We chose light pollution because we wanted to bring awareness to this topic. This isn't an issue that gets a lot of attention but it is still a very pressing issue that if left unchecked, could harm us in the long run. I contributed to the project by getting the research together, helping make the script, and helping direct and putting the video together. I did well at finding research and directing the video, I could have done a better job at helping make the script. The most meaningful part was actually making the video and seeing all your hard work pay off with what I feel was a pretty good and entertaining video.
