Second Chances Matter!

For my design, I chose to do this design because I wanted to make something that made a story. When I was in the 3rd grade, I used to go to my neighbors house after school because my mom worked late and my neighbor was willing to take care of me and my older brother, Nicholas. One day my brother, my neighbor’s son, and I were hanging out outside in my neighbor’s backyard when I noticed they had a skateboard. Beforehand, I had never seen one and was very interested in trying it (Oh, trust me, like all stories… it gets dark) so I jumped on it. As soon as I kicked the ground to start, I slipped off and fell right on my elbow fracturing it. After 4 months of wearing a cast and pretty much ruining my baseball life, I got my cast off and vowed never to ride again.

Two years went by of no skateboarding and honestly didn’t pay any mind to it until my brother came home with a longboard telling my mom that he found a new hobby. Being the little brother that I was, I wanted to be just like him (still do by the way) and decided to go back to skateboarding even if it meant going back to risking of breaking any bones. After a couple of weeks of my brother teaching me everything that I needed to learn to at least ride a skateboard, I was finally able to ride without falling. Since then, skateboarding has been my favorite way of transportation.

When people see my project, I want them to hear my story and know that I am a person that is willing to give second chances, even to those that harm me the most.

Artist Statement:

For our project we decided to use a junk ball wiffle ball:

When we first started the project we decided immediately that we wanted to do something related to sports because it was something that both of us could relate to. We both play a lot of sports but not a lot of them were in common. The one sport that we had in common was baseball however. So we decided to use a wiffle ball since it is baseball.

What the item means to Cinque:

It reminds me of all the times that I played baseball. In 2012 I won a championship and it brings back the good memories of that. I decided this would be a good idea since me and Jake can both relate to it. It also brings out and shows the athletic side of me.

What the item means to Jake:

This item is a very important part to me. This same ball was the one that I used my whole childhood to play wiffle ball. Also since baseball is the one sport that I really love to play and enjoy. This brings back a lot of memories whether it was playing wiffle ball in the local sandlot or all the years that I played little league. It also brings back memories of the several times that my team won the championship.

Answers To Essential Questions

Our universe is enclosed with different types of flow of things. Most timely, we see and feel what's go around us. However, sometimes we don't see things that create a great effect in our daily life as for example the flow of electricity. We do experiments to prove our inference. All  in all, we are able to  know things  by making an inference or observing or proving our hypothesis as a valued experiment.

We know things by seeing or observing, but sometimes my assumptions can be wrong. For these reasons, I carry out different experiments based on what I want to know. In addition, we can collect data and analyze them. We clear out  perception by the processes and change of our  understanding. Therefore, we know things by having an experimentation  or observation and these change our knowledge of things or expand the knowledge of the things what our  have known before. The Reasoning

I chose to make this sculpture because it symbolizes, to me personally, the life of someone, and the way that light plays a vital role in our everyday society. Light is one of the major aspects that enables us as human beings to survive in this world. In addition, I would also like to say that anything involving math and/or electricity will catch my interest. It doesn’t matter what the project is; I’ll try with my utmost effort to complete the project and try to exceed expectations because my major is electrical engineering. Even if I start the project at the last moment, I’ll exceed expectations because I’ll put my heart and soul into completing it to the highest extent possible.

For my Physics project, I had to decide what I thought would be the best definition of me. Family is very important to me. I have always considered myself a family person. I feel that family is what helps me be a better person. Family will give me the best advice. I can be positive that they won’t tell me anything that would be harmful to me because I know they have my best interest at heart.

There have been many times where I needed advice from my family, and their advice proved to be helpful. For example, when I was in seventh grade, some of my family members motivated me to keep my head up and do the best I can when I wasn't doing too well in school. Without my family, I would not know what to do in some situations. They up build and encourage me to do my best. Family, in my opinion, makes me a better person.

This sculpture does include dolls. However, the purpose of them is much more essential. The display shows a family at a table. That is my message; a loving family member is one way to describe me. I value the importance of family because they are always there for me. I know that if I talk to my family, they won’t deliberately say anything to hurt me because they have my best interest at heart.

Electric Art Project

Artist Statement

Every since I was a little boy, I always like the idea of learning new things about life. This can be anything new or anything I have forgotten. I love knowing more about the things that surround me. I would not be the person I am today if it weren’t for education. This is why I decided to do a binder as a Electric Art. It is the most useful learning tool I can think of.

I truly believe that education is the most powerful tool that can change the world. Education is the key to overcoming big barriers. Once you know it then you can break. When I grow up I want to make a time machine. I want to be a billionaire and the president of the world. I can only do this through many years of learning. And I feel as though a binder is a good symbol of school.

Because of education so many things were invented.  Things like cars and houses. And as I mentioned before, I want to build a time machine. Though this will be hard work, it will be worth it. As the roots of school is terrible but it’s outcome is amazing. My only barrier is laziness. This is a big barrier because I know that I will be learning my entire life. I know that I will never be the master because education never ends. But if I wasn’t lazy, things would be too easy!

Overall I decided to do my electrical art project on a binder because I feel like it represents school. I meant in school, binder is very necessary. Everything else is somewhat optional except for a writing stick. Education is my life. I would be nothing without it. And the binder tells me that I am hardworking student when I am not lazy.

My Artist’s Statement: By Zack Waxler

I chose a laptop case for my project because computers are a big part of my life and I use them all the time. I also wanted to make something cool that stands out amongst other projects for it’s techiness. This sculpture shows my creativity, my fondness of the color silver and my love for computers. I really like how my project came out and it looks neat.
