My Social Media Survival Guide

Online I try my best to appear as mature and respectful as possible. Because of the past arguments and photos that I have posted in the past people may have viewed me as, fun, outgoing, crazy, and/or “too grown.” Now that I am much more aware of what I post now people may see me as, respectful, mature, and/or hard-working.

Consider these 3 questions before posting online….

  1. Will my college dean like what they see when searching me?

  2. Will my boss/supervisor like what they see when searching me?

  3. Is this the way my parents raised me?

Keep in mind that every and anything that you post online  is immediately out of your control and now that is permanently online and saved into your computer. Unless you personally make your accounts private any and every one is able to see what you post.

There are always pros and cons to everything. Pros about being and posting online is that, people are able to get information and stay in contact with friends/family. But… Cons about online is depending on how you say certain things people can get offended, you could also lose your job or not even get the job, and lastly you could not get into the college of your choice.

Social Media Survival Guide

I think I am still me when I am online, I'm seen as a boy who likes The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Maze Runner, Spongebob, Doctor Who, and many others. A Fanboy.

I don’t know how people perceive me, if I was to guess I would say maybe a geek? I don’t know.

Before posting online I think about who’s going to see it currently. For example, my friends and family. I don’t think about who might see it in the future.

The pros for sharing online is it’s easy for people around the world to get information faster and you can have fun with friends and family members. The cons for sharing online is everyone can see what you are doing, little gets deleted and your things can get hacked.

Lack of Control, Permanence, and Immediacy have an impact on our online lives in many ways. One of the ways is that anything you post will stay on the internet forever. So anyone can see what you did and they can judge you by the things you have posted. People can look at things you posted and your profile and think they know you. They will think about you based on your internet reputation even though that’s only half of who you really are most of the time.

1. I am a nice person never talking bad of people and really just a kind.

2.People would perceive me as a pretty cool person.

3.I don’t use Facebook or anything else that much(I Don't have Facebook).

4.The pros is that if somebody is far away you can still talk to them and the con is that it dangerous to your privacy.

5.How does three factors  are bad impact is that they could put something on the internet that they will regret and they cant take it back.

6. Free speech is protected what you say but nothing that can harm or kill a person.

7. the things it protects is peacefully protest, or a opinion.

8.A internet troll is a person that goes in game, chats and do something to scare, anger somebody.

9. There goal is to get a funny reactions from people  like anger or fear.

10. Honesty a troll is not as bad as a bully a troll just mss with you a bully on the other hand set out to attack you.

11. The pro of posting anonymously is that they get pinepoint who you are but if you say it to a friend they won’t know what you said.

7. What is free speech? What is protected? What is not?

Free speech is the right to communicate one's opinions and ideas without fear of goverment censorship or retaliation

12. Tips for social media users:

- Don't be stupid. Don't write stuff that will clearly get you in trouble
- Don't use your actual name. If you're so stupid that #1 is impossible for you than at least don't use your actual name, name yourself something like "Idiot212" instead
- If you're having a problem on social media than just don't use it.

Social Media Survival Guide

I am a student. Online, I appear as a pinterest user, a person in cross country, a child of a HUP worker, A former student at FSH.Based on my appearance on the internet, I believe that I people will perceive me as , young, and a student Make sure that, before posting anything online, one must consider that whatever a person posts may be visible to anybody.Remember that, sharing online great way to promote business. However, the cons to sharing are that people can see what you share even things that can affect your job, interview, or etc. So choose wisely what you want to post. Keep in mind that lack of Control, permanence and immediacy impact our lives because when we post content, immediately it is stuck on the internet permanently because people can screenshot it/save it keep it for oneself. We lose control of the things we post and where it goes. Since someone screenshots it, they can post it or post something about you without permission. Personally, Social media is a great tool to share, however people have access to what you share and can be viewed by potential employers. Social media background checks are a great idea for potential employers because it shows people who they are going to meet. For example, if a person applies for a job, you would like to know who the person is and if they are a good candidate for the job. Since people post thing on social media, social media is a great way for people to view who a person is. When posting content on social media, speaking to your peers or anything, free speech protects most of the things you say

My Social Media Guide

Posted by Miki Huang in TECH 1 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 10:39 am

when im online i appear to be a gamer and an animal lover (my facebook has game post…)  and i have no personal info other then my name

I think people perceive me as someone who likes animal, anime and games

I consider how someone will think of me, what my parents will see/say, what my friends will see and if it's legal or not

Pros

Cons

you can share things with your friends and family without having to write letter, printing or talking

you could accidentally send the info to the wrong person and you can't take it back or stop it from sending

you can promote or share info

you can get in trouble if you have false info of someone, something they don't like or illegal

you can hurt someone with the things you post

lack of control is when you don't think about what you're going to do and just do it ( acting before thinking)

permanence- when you post something for the public you can't erase it completely if someone downloads it

immediacy- when click post or send on something online it happens right away and you can't take it back

lack of control, permanence, and immediacy impacts our online lives because when you act before you think and click send you cant take it back because it happens immediately and when someone downloads it and shares it it become permanent.

Free speech is the right to express an opinion in a nonviolent way. for example you can say you don't like something or start riots(as long as it is not violent, harmful to someone's reputation or business) something not protected by the freedom of speech is if you express your opinion is violent and will cause a fight

My top 3 tip for anybody who uses social media would be don't post something you’re going to regret remember you can't take anything back and think about how people will see/ think of you.

My Survival Guide

Posted by Sarah French in TECH 1 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 10:37 am

Who I believe I am while I am online is a silly independent young women. I post funny images and appealing videos. I also believe that I am seen as serious but yet still playful. I like to do things for myself and have a good time while doing so.

I think people perceive me as a woman who fights alone. This woman has multiple personalities that describe her depending on how her day is going. One moment she could be a ball of joy and the next she might catch fire. That is how I think people perceive me.

Before I post something online I think about who it might offend. If it might be rude to some people or if they might get a kick out of it.

A pro of sharing is that it might make someone's day and make them laugh a bit. A con of sharing is that it might offend someone. That is why i have to consider what I am doing before I post.

How it has impacted our lives is simple. Nobody really pays attention to what they are posting or saying online which is lack of control. Even when you go to delete something you never have control of deleting because you never know who might have it, it’s permanent. As soon as you post something you do not have time to think about what you are doing or not being able to think twice. It happens in an instance and you can not do anything about it. Once it is uploaded it is there, forever. Since the internet works how it does it has changed everyone involved in it. It has taken away the meaning of living. Rarely anyone reads the newspaper for sports or important stories. People rather look at their friends latest status update. Now a days if you do something without technology it's the old fashion way, technology is the new fashion.

Free speech to me is being able to speak your mind but watching what you say doesn't offend someone. Free speech with not be protected if it were to offend or cause someone harm. Posting your thoughts is fine because that is free speech. Posting something that is trying to harm someone intentionally is not protected.

After reading my survival guide I hope you have learned something. In my opinion the only three tips you should really pay attention to "who are you when you are online", "what do you consider before posting" and "what is free speech." These are the most important and will have the biggest impact on your life. You should pay close attention.

Indigo's Social Media Survival Guide

Posted by Indigo Burton in TECH 1 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 10:29 am

Indigo

Who are you online, how do you appear ?

I am Indigo and online I am just normal I  don't post anything inappropriate or rude. I think I appear a little weird and shy because I don’t take pictures like everybody else. Some people may think the things I look at are a bit strange.

How do you think people perceive you, based on this appearance?

I think people perceive me as kind of normal but weird and shy and a little emotional. I like a lot of weird things on instagram and vine. I could come off a little rood from some comments I make

What do you consider before posting anything online?

Whether or not people will like the picture or post or if they will find it funny. If it hurts any of my followers and who will see it

What are the pros and cons of sharing online?

Pros: People may like it will share it and everyone can see what u find funny, All ur friends know what ur up to

Cons: People may get offended  or the wrong people might see it

Explain how Lack of Control, Permanence and Immediacy have an impact on our online lives?

Well people could take what you do online in an offensive way. That could ruin your life if it gets shared a lot. You could also just have the wrong people seeing what you want and that could kill your reputation as well.

MY Social Media Survival Guide

  1. I am myself when I am online and I like to annoy people and I appear as my name that I have used.

  2. As a cool, fun, and nice guy until they get on my bad side.

  3. What could happen if I do something i’m not supposed to I always think everything through.

  4. There are no pros or cons to me it’s just posting something instead of waiting to tell someone.

  5. You have to have a lack of control online or something will go wrong.

Who Am I online?

Posted by Keith Corbin in TECH 1 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 10:28 am

  • When I’m online I feel responsible. When I’m online I know where to go and where not to go.

  • When people see me online they think i’m responsible. For example when my grandma asks me to help her with something online she always says I know what i’m doing or I know more than technology than her.

  • Before I post anything online I make sure it’s appropriate and that I know who will see it. I make sure it won’t offend anyone or that it won’t make anyone angry.

  • A pro is having a positive effect a con is having someone come at you for posting something offensive.

  •  If someone doesn't care about how someone else feel about what they are posting and it has an effect on our lives because people don’t think before they post something and they get mad when they have to face the consequences.

  • I think it is great to do a social media background check because if I was about to hire someone I would want to know what I am getting myself into. If someone was hiring me I would not have a problem if they looked me up to see what people think of me while I am online.

  • To me free speech is speaking your mind or telling people how you feel without being rude or starting a fight. I say this because you necessarily can't say what you want because if you curse at a cop you will get arrested.
