Lead Poisoning In Philadelphia

The topic is important because lead poisoning is a very serious problem, especially in Philadelphia. Many people have to deal with it and there’s not an easy fix, so bringing attention to it is very important. I definitely could’ve done more to help with the project, even if I wasn’t in I should’ve done something. I think the most meaningful part of helping with this to me is just being able to do my best to help, even if it’s not much.

Lead Poisoning in Philadelphia

I think this topic is very important because the problem isn´t just ignorance, it´s more about complacency with lead poisoning. Lead poisoning is a huge problem that affects a lot of people, mainly children. Our video is a message to politicians, the people in power who can enact laws to protect us. I think the video is well done, if not just a bit short, but so are most commercials. Politicians have a short attention span. The most meaningful part of this project to me is that it´s the last project I get to do in Environmental Science with my friends.

Air Pollution

Air pollution is always and will be surrounding us throughout our time on Earth and we need to take care of it. The chemicals being flown into the air are harmful to our everyday lives like gardening, hunting, exercising, etc. So not being on top of what we are doing slowly affects the way we live. Understanding and accepting that some of the solutions are not going to satisfy our needs and wants from Mother Nature. Mother nature will always find a way to reform into something much better even when there are burning fossil fuels, factories, and anything else to destroy life. It always has a backup/ plan to look back on

Dylan Wright - Lead Poisoning PSA

This video talks about how many houses in Philadelphia have lead paint in them. This paint is especially bad for small children and can cause a multitude of negative health effects for them. It then talks about some things that can be done about this, such as people can remove lead paint from houses and there can be new legislation made to stop houses being sold with lead paint or other lead sources in them. I chose this topic because I thought it would be interesting and I was intrigued by the article we read in class about lead poisoning in Philly. I think we did well with compiling overall information, I feel we could probably have done better with time management. The most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA was learning about the different ways lead poisoning could be stopped because it seems like it would be a difficult thing to do something about but some of the solutions are actually quite simple.

Sabria Walker - Texas Water Crisis

Is the global water crisis an environmental justice issue? Why or why not?

The global water crisis and the efforts put forth in order to prevent and overall put a stop to it may be seen as environmental justice indeed. There are still steps that we must take in order to ascertain the very cause and assess how the most tedious of procedures may be taken to ensure safe (and clean) drinking water through clean passage systems. I came to this conclusion because of the evidence that has been more than prominent in communities and neighborhoods. Some of these more prominent areas include Pennsylvania, Alabama Texas, Indiana, etc.

Terrell Smith - Cape Town Water Crisis

Something that stood out to me was that limitations had to be put on people’s water usage. The city had to make sure no one house was using water more than another, where if they did they were fined. This goes to show how bad the drought was there.

Is global water crisis an environmental justice issue? Why or why not? The global water crisis is an environmental justice issue because if one group of people doesn’t have access to freshwater while another group does, a great sense of lack of fairness arises. Which goes against what environmental justice is about.

Cape Town Water Crisis

Initially I didn’t know about the Cape town water crisis. I didn’t even know there was a Cape town. What stood out to me the most is that I hasn’t really gotten covered much but the news and there wasn’t really a big deal about it. I wonder why that is. Seeing as how water is a necessity I do believe the global water crisis is most definitely an environmental justice case. Everything leads back to the waters and if there is no clean drinkable water then no one cna function. It’s almost like a circle.

I have known about the Flint water crisis through the media but never really knew all the facts about the problem. From doing this project, I learned more information that I was not aware of like that the crisis began from budget cuts. This is a terrible situation but not that surprising how long it is taking to overcome this because of what seems to be incompetents from the government. I think that this global water crisis is an environmental justice problem because it affects the environment that we live in and has affected many people’s health as result.

Global water crisis

The global water crisis is one of the clearest displays of an environmental justice issue. While doing our research most issues had a trend pertaining to the lack of response from the people intended to manage it, city or state government. Specifically, in Flint’s water crisis, it was said that the city had to repeatedly be taken to court to progress a few steps further each time even after 18 months of being ignored.

Water Crisis: US Pipeline

The age of the US pipeline has a lot to do with the polluted water problems in the states. We chose to highlight Flint, Michigan knowing that they have no clean drinking water because their pipeline is contaminated by lead. We also highlighted more specific facts like how cast iron pipes and iron pipes are at their breaking point and are either breaking or cracking allowing the harmful substances to get into the water.

Samuel Cadbury: Libya water crisis

After reading as researching the water crisis in Libya, I have a new understanding on how a water crisis can be more than an environmental cause. The main cause to why there is a water crisis in Libya is mismanagement of resources during a war. With two major governmental powers that are at war, they both let a majority of water supply go dead. while the war is currently ended as of 2020, the people of libya are still suffering from its impacts and still have a lack of water.

Melani's Global Water Crisis

Before doing extensive research on the global water crisis, I found to my surprise a lot of people don’t have safe drinking water in many countries. I always knew Mexico had unsafe tap water, if you aren’t native to Mexico drinking tap water is a danger to your body. Native Mexicans are able to drink this tap water without being affected because their body built immunity to the bacteria in the water. Learning that Mexico is suffering a drought left me to wonder what would they do when there’s no water in a couple of years? how does the government plan to fix this? The government has a plan to create ” artificial rain ” to increase rainfall but this has effects on the biosphere and increases ocean acidification so is it really a solution? With that being said I believe that yes, the global water crisis is an environmental justice issue. I can argue this because low-income countries and people don’t have access to safe drinking water and it’s a human necessity. The government of these countries isn’t doing enough to ensure these people have water. We only heard about this issue in poor countries and neighborhoods, the rich never have to worry about unsafe water or having water period. Change is needed and, it starts with us. we are the change.
