Entering Science Leadership Academy at Beeber in ninth grade was a start of a chapter in my life. In this chapter were laughter, blood, sweat, tears, contentment, and happiness. I am sad to say that this chapter is coming to an end, but before it ends we are given the opportunity to apply what we learned at SLA@Beeber by doing the Capstone Project. At first I didn't know what to do. I changed my Capstone topic three times before coming choosing my topic. My Capstone Project is about stress and how it affects one's mind. I chose stress because it played a major role in my four years of high school; especially during the college process.

To prevent stress for the "soon to be seniors" I presented a powerpoint on "What You Need To Know To Succeed In Your Senior Year". In this presentation, I covered everything from the application process to senioritis. I covered many topics that will come up in their senior year, to have them feel more prepared. I understand that my presentation will not erase all stress because SLA@Beeber has a rigorous curriculum, but I hope my advice could help them make better decisions and by better decisions have a more successful senior year.

Media and Design Ignite Presentation

Posted by Autumn Richardson in Intro to Design and Multmiedia on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 10:57 am

Slide 1:Hello, my name is Autumn Richardson. I am in the eleventh grade at Science Leadership Academy at Beeber.  For my ignite presentation I will be talking about my Media and Design projects and some changes made to them. First stop will be my website.

Slide 2:For my website I decided to talk about my view of Philadelphia. I have never created a website before so this was definitely a first. The goal was to make an efficient website that included a project page, about me page, a resume page, and a welcome page. For my welcome page I included a brief description of what you would see if you visited my website.

Slide 3:Like I have said in the beginning the welcome page is one of the changes I have made in this project.  At first the welcome page was pretty dull and mediocre. I tried to use a live background but it was delayed and when the text moved and background moved it was too much and confusing.

Slide 4: So this project was not really successful because my goal was to make a better website that was more colorful and lively. That worked and attracted attention to those that visited my page. I wanted the website to look legit. Although I struggled with project one I did better with project 2.

Slide 5: This was my Quarter 2 project, this was the final project but I can reassure you that it didn’t look like that at first. It took much time to achieve this.

Slide 5:For quarter 2 the project I did was Graphic Design. The goal was to create a road sign that represents either a real or fictional situation or direction(s). Your sign should not contain words. Use images and symbols to convey your message.

Slide 6: Now, I had many complications with this project because at first I was using pixlr. Pixlr and I don’t get along. It would delete my work after I saved it, the over tools just sucked in general and this was my outcome using it. A hot mess, I couldn’t submit this and feel proud of it so I decided to use another website that could help me make a better picture while getting my point across.

Slide 7: This is a before and after as you can see using pixlr just really sucked so after using another webiste it got better and I submitted good work, or at least good to me.

Slide 8: The video can be a powerful messenger and a quick way to share a laugh, an idea or make a statement. The video was to be 1 to 3 minutes and follow the copyright laws.

Slide 9: At first I was confused I didn’t know what to do the video on. I like to draw, but I didn’t want to do that. I like to dance, but I didn’t want to do that either. I was pretty much lost up to the second checkpoint with no idea to create a video.

Slide 10: One day before class at lunchtime I was thinking what could I do because checkpoint three was due today. Then I had this idea what if I could do a news segment and it would be better if I worked with a partner. The video came out ok, but since it was so late and we started so late the quality wasn’t that good. I decided to edit the video over and make it better.

Slide 11: The picture you see before you is the a revision of the Website Project. The welcome page is one of the changes I have made in this project.  At first the welcome page was pretty dull and mediocre. I tried to use a live background but it was delayed and when the text moved and background moved it was too much and confusing.

Slide 12: I decided to make a new menu, change the background, changed the description, and color of font so that it could be more appealing to someone that visited my website. I chose to do this project over because I didn’t like the finished product. I also added another page to the website. This page is about the Video Project I did in Quarter 3.

Slide 13: So this is the before and after and there is an obvious change like I had explained previously. I feel more proud of this finished project because it looks more appealing than the last one. Also I corrected the things that brought down my grade.

Slide 14: My highpoint of the Media and Design class was creating a Graphic Design because in that project I reflected learned from my mistakes and fixed them. I received help from my peers that helped me make a better project and actually enjoyed making it.

Slide 15: An area of growth from the Media and Design class was making the video. I know which is ridiculous because in SLA we make videos for every class, but I struggled making the video and I still don’t know how to use the tools, but I did my best I wish I could have applied myself more and had the checkpoints turned in on time.

Slide 16: A skill or technique you learned this year that I could use outside of this class was being confident in what you present because if you’re not confident in what you have others won’t see it as good. Also I never knew how to make a website so if I ever have a business or some type of organization I can advertise it by making a website.

Slide 17: A project that you could have next year could be making a business and successfully advertising it, which may include graphic design, so like a sign, a website to advertise that business or item, and use the 3D printer to make a prototype of the item you will be selling.

Slide 18:Tip one stay on time, for class, for the checkpoint, and for the project. This is for all classes. Time management is extremely important.

Slide 19: Tip two think outside the box don’t trap yourself in anything the more you use your imagination the better the project will come out. Don’t limit yourself to what you're given, if you have the opportunity to do better do better.

Slide 20: Tip three remember what you are taught because you might have to use these tools later in life. Don’t forget what you learned in this class because something might be beneficial in the future, whether it was a project, a comment someone made, or even life lessons learned you learned in the class.

Graphic Design

Graphic Design
Graphic Design
Quarter 2, I did a project on Graphic Design,in which I needed to bring shapes together to portray an image without using words that would explain the image. This image needed to be a road sign that could give direction to the drivers. The process was interesting and tedious. At first I wasn’t aware that the sign could not include words so when I sketched my sign; I decided to do road construction up ahead. I loved drawing it,but I found a large difficulty in finding a website that could actually help me achieve my goal. Eventually I ended up with pixlr graphic design tool website. I did not like how it worked and it didn’t have many shapes.I believe it was best with editing an image more than making an image. I did the best I could with that, but I did not believe that it was worthy of submission because I did not like how it was portrayed. So, I asked my fellow class members who also had Graphic Design project and most of them used pixel, but I one classmate used another designing tool website called ipiccy. This website was extremely better than pixel it had shapes that I could use and editing features that made it easy to transform my project into something I had better faith in.
A success I had was re-doing my sign over with another graphic design website. The image came out so much better and clearer that I felt like I accomplished something. My failure that I had in this project was trying to make something off of pixlr;it was a waste of time and the outcome was not good. I learned, for this project, that images are made of shapes and you can use any shapes to make that image. I learned that when making my image if I don’t have confidence in it,than it’s not worthy to be submitted because if I don’t have confidence in my own image than I could do better. I learned that when making this image I need to pay attention to comments and the feedback because to make a better image for others to understand, their perspective is important. I learned, about myself, that I should have high expectations for my work and not settle for anything less. I need to be confident in my work and work hard to submit the project.
If I were to do this project differently I would look for other graphic design websites, rather than just taking what is suggested to me. Although, it was suggested I still have the option to look for others. Also, any tips I have for future projects would be to work hard to achieve your goal. This project inspired me to have high expectations for myself in any project, in any class.

There is simply no substitute for hard work when it comes to achieving success.

Introduction To Design and Multimedia Project

The reason for this project was to learn how to make a good and fascinating website about something I cared about or found important. The subject I used for my website was Philadelphia because not only could I relate, but I also did a geometric class the featured a picture of Philadelphia that I drew.My goal was to successfully make a website and I managed to do that.I hoped to learn what work needed to be put in to design a website.
In the beginning of the website I didn't know where to start, but then I decided to think about my past projects I did and what I could use in this project.I so happened to come across the geometry project I did for Mrs. Epps in 10th grade. After I found my prject to do everything else flowed out and I was able to successfully make my website. In the process yes there were some errors for example. Using wix I had trouble editing my navigation because on the welcome page I had no navigation to getting to the next page, but after discovering more about the website editor I was using and some help from former class mates I was able finally fix the issue. Now the navigation is not perfect, but I fixed to the best of my ability.
Through the completion of this project I learned how to make a website successfully. I learned how to design and what appeals to the eyes of the viewers. Through this project I learned that I am capable of actually making a website and learning what a good website should look like. If I were to do this project again I would probably use another editor, that may have been easier because wix also uploaded picture weird and editing them on wix was difficult.
Any tips or advise that I would give to anyone else to do this project would be completing your checkpoints on time and trying to make them quality work. This project inspired me to not be afraid to make another website because of the difficulties I might face. The medium, wix did not dictate my message because there were many options for me to bring my own work into my website.

The Poem Project

Posted by Autumn Richardson in SPANISH 2 - Moran - C on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 1:48 pm
La Poesía Española- Final Copy
The Poem project you had to pick a Spanish poet and write information about their life. You also then had to give information about yourself. Then you had to find a poem by that poet that was officially translated in Spanish. Once you found a poem, then you had to write a poem of your own.

This was one of my favorite projects ,even though I'm bad at poetry. I tried to make a poem. I chosen Pablo Neruda,a poet I knew before doing this project because I knew I would like his work. I knew enough to describe him as well. I felt like this was a good project and enough time was given and it was somewhat fun...

Quarter 3 Travel Project

In the travel project were in groups and each group had to make their own travel agency. We had to have the cost of five days, seven days, and nine days. And be able to explain what the tourist would be doing in all these days. In this project we had to have a presentation,a commercial, and a brochure.

Reflection: I would definitely be a tourist and never work for an agency. I am not good at working in an agency, but this project gave me some knowledge on flights, hotels, and restaurants in San Juan. I would go there for their historic museums and monuments. I believe our trip planned would be really fun.

Spanish Reflection and Eulogy-This project was fun because I had the opportunity to make a beautiful mask and and gorgeous sugar. This was also good because I was able to reflect about my great aunt, who was very close to me,death. I was able to represent her joyous spirit through the art of the mask and skull.I had a fun time honoring her death by doing this project.
Conversation Powerpoint- This project was great because this help me understand and master ser and estar.I also believe this helped me with basic conversations in spanish. This project was submitted a day before the deadline which was a stress reliever.
Spanish Book-This was a great book. The online website that made the cartoons pictures for the book really came in handy. This booked helped me understand the importance of communication. The turnout was good either way.

"When I was a child, when I was a little kid I wanted to be an astronaut then a paleontologist, thats someone who studies dinosaurs because I like dinosaurs."

Autumn:Ok,here’s the first question.Where are you from?

Mr.Rosen-long: "I’m from Brooklyn,New York City."

Autumn:Ok.Describe the neighborhood you grew up in?

Mr Rosen-long: "The neighborhood I grew up in has changed a lot since I grew up there. When I first um… when my parents first moved to that neighborhood it was not a very wealthy neighborhood and the neighborhood was really diverse there was a lot of people from all over the world. A lot of my neighbors were spanish speaking,a lot were African American, and neighbors from Ireland. We had some neighbors from Asia, all over the place. And that was where I grew up, and we all used to play hockey in the streets together ,and stuff. And now the neighborhood has gotten more popular so it got more expensive. And then a lot of people that use to live there haven’t been able to stay in the neighborhood, they been pushed out...or displaced is the fancy word. And so now unfortunately the neighborhood is not the same as it was. It’s much fancier now.Just less exciting."

Autumn:Well, okay.Did you go to college? If so what college did you go to?

Mr.Rosen-long:" I went to Haverford College, which is in the suburbs right around here. It’s actually fifteen minutes that way, down lancaster avenue."

Autumn:That’s interesting. When you were young, what do want to be when you grow up?

Mr.Rosen-long: "Um…..I did not want to be a teacher.(giggles).When I was a child, when I was a little kid I wanted to be an astronaut then a paleontologist, thats someone who studies dinosaurs because I like dinosaurs . Um,yeah,a paleontologist is someone who goes and looks for dinosaur bones. When I got older I didn’t know what I want to be.I guess I wanted to work with politics, but not like be a politician.Like do stuff, like help an organization that helps people."

Autumn:Cool, last question. What is your earliest memory?

"Mr.Rosen-long:That’s a good question.Uh… my earliest memory ever. I remember when I was a little baby being in the old apartment,my parents used to live. And we had this dog,and I don’t know how big it was,but it seemed really big to me.I remember sitting and playing with the dog,it was a big brown dog. That’s probably my earliest memory."

Autumn:That seems cool.Well thank for answering these questions and participating in this interview.

Ngozi:I want to be an engineer or a philanthropist.

Autumn:What gave you the inspiration to want to be an engineer or philanthropist?

Ngozi:Because technology today is amazing and I want to take it to the next step.

Autumn:When you get older do you plan to still live in Philadelphia?

Ngozi: I might move....I'm not sure where I would move.I just know I'm moving.

Infographic- The Red Panda

Posted by Autumn Richardson in TECH 1 - Hertz - a1 on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 7:37 am
The reason I made this infographic is because I love animals. My favorite animal is  pandas. At first I was going to do my infographic on pandas, but in the search tab I saw red pandas. I thought doing an infographic on a red panda would be nice, only because I would be learning new and interesting facts about red pandas. It was entirely fun making a infographic about red pandas because they are interesting and cute creatures.

Cyber Bullying Has Gone Too Far..

I chose this picture because it conveys the possible outcome of cyber bullying. The message I am trying to convey is that when cyber bullying is gone too far, some may decide they can't handle it and commit suicide. People may care for them, but some humans are more prone to hear and think about  the negative than the good. Cyber bullying can really effect many people, and in all cases there is no good in it. Most times people respond to cyber bulling in a bad way, this makes the situation ten times worst. Cyber bullying needs to be handled the right way, but others can't handle the millions of emotions running through their brain so they commit suicide, to get rid of the pain.
