IMAG0754 (1)

My piece was inspired by the children's books that I read with my son. I wanted to create something that felt whimsical and imaginative.

I chose the location I did because I wanted it to look as though the insect was lounging in  a corner and I wanted it to be near my room.

I have been paying attention to the different styles of illustration in children's books and have really been thinking about how under-appreciated some children's book art is. I also thought about how an image can transport the viewer and also pique a viewer's interest in finding out more of the story. I like to imagine that there is a story being told in my drawing.

I am now paying attention to the varied styles of street art and I think more about the purpose behind the art that I see and the characters that artists create, similar to how children's book illustrators have to think about the characters that they are illustrating.

"The Internet.. You Mean my Home?"

Posted by Kevin Westerfer in ART 9 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 10:59 am

My six word memoir derives from me being on my computer 24/7. Many of my friends aren't close to me, let alone my state, and in some cases country. Being able to communicate, play games with, or just anything with them is fun. I also enjoy the internet because of how everybody's different communities are on there and you can interact with people in that community. The internet to me is also good for entertainment and educational purposes.

One Point Perspective Final Project

Six Word Memoir:

You can’t stop Rock and Roll

This memoir means exactly what it says, you can’t, and never will stop rock and roll. I chose this statement because I have been listening to rock music since I was a toddler and it is just about the coolest thing ever. The most prevalent memory I have with rock and roll was when my friend Elijah brought his mp3 player into school and we listened to Green Day at recess.

Connection of drawing to memoir:

In the drawing I placed a rock poster, a guitar, a song in the process of being written, and a “Rock Weekly” Magazine. These connect to the six word memoir because they are items a typical person into Rock and Roll would have in their room.

"After all this time, I remember."-Eva

Posted by Eva Litke in ART 9 - Hertz - a1 on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 8:55 am

I chose this memoir because I can relate to it in many ways in terms of my nostalgia for my old school and things I've had to let go of in the past year that I can't seem to find a way to forget about. I have cried a lot because of the changes in my life. I also cry sometimes because I can’t find a way to move on from the past and it’s frustrating when I always remember and think about it. My nostalgia for my old school has been extremely hard on me for the last year because I didn’t want things to change, but my parents decided it was time for me to have new experiences for high school. Therefore, I cried quite a bit because I didn’t want to leave my old school since I felt so comfortable there. I’ve also been having a hard time moving on from my first relationship, which was in the beginning of this year. My 6 word memoir connects with my old school and my relationship because it’s been such a long time now since everything changed, and I still think about it every day. I represent and illustrate my pain and struggling from the past year with multiple empty pieces of furniture in my drawing. I have 2 empty tables and a bare bed, which to me represent the emptiness I’ve felt from moving on. On my bed I drew a puddle of tears to represent the many times when I’ve cried alone in my room wishing things could be different. On the back wall I drew a small picture frame with 3 dots. Similar to the way you would write “...” to perhaps show time passing in a written piece, I have it in a picture frame to show time passing in my life, since so many things have changed.

Drawing description

Posted by Kashawn Gilmore in ART 9 - Hertz - a1 on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 8:52 pm

The meaning of the ribbon I drew is All cancer.

Amount of deaths that is caused by cancer inspired me to make this art.

I don't know why I choose the location Maybe because it's visible to others.

Art is not just a drawing it has a bigger meaning under it

I can see on some of the art what would want to make a person draw this piece of artwork.

  • What is the meaning of the work you created?

  • I made this art to spread word of a space in the school that I felt needed to be used.

  • What inspired your work?

  • I think that the way the school was laid out, seeing where people went and did during lunch had a big affect on my placing of my art

  • Why did you choose the location you chose?

  • I chose to put it by the bookshelves near Mr. Rosen-Long's room. I chose this place because of all the books on it that I never see being used.

  • How did this project change your perception of Art?

  • I think that seeing Thierry's change from being an "assistent to the artist" to actually becoming an artist was a very interesting change and it was an eye opener on modern art for me.

  • How did this project change your perception of Art you see as you travel around the city?
  • I guess it made me think about the graffiti or other street art I see when down Center City or in my own neighborhood.
