Is it just a piece of yarn?

At first I never really look at ,myself as an artist. To be an artist, I thought you had to know how to simply draw, or paint. Stating that I had no drawing or painting skills whatsoever. So in my head I was no sort of an artist. However, I just need to research and open my eyes. Maturing and giving myself more perspectives on what art is, and the different types of art was the best thing for me. Now, I see things as kind of anything can be art. Reason being is because no matter what the piece is, every different person look at the piece will have a different interpretation of the theme the piece presents.

This project that I did, was not just an assignment. I don't just do it to get a grade. Now, I can say that this project however did not go into a personal meaning or depth. However, this project represented a few things of myself. This project represented what I like to do and what I grew up on. A lot of people portray me and this hard shell to crack person and they think of crocheting of relaxing and soothing. Now seeing me and crochet mixing is where the meaning comes in. This shows that although I may look like a hard shell to crack, doesn't mean I do those type of things. This project also shows my creativity and how I'm always ready to do something unique and new. This was my first time ever thinking of this or doing this. Everything wasn't perfect but I believe I did a really awesome job with this being my first time doing this exact piece.

At first I was really confused and I still am a little bit. I think what I can do for my next project to make it “better” is to look at other peoples and get ideas. Now, they will definitely just be ideas because I also want my pieces to be original. I think to make it better, I can also add more “personal meaning” into it. This will give me more to incorporate into the piece and more to look at. I know I'm not a perfect artist but practice surely makes perfect!

Tattoo Art

As an young artist, I have loved the idea of art being taken into different types of mediums. I especially love the idea of transporting a piece of art onto the human body. I thought this project was the perfect opportunity to do just that. After deciding on what project I wanted to do, I decided what I wanted the tattoos to look like. I came up with the idea to have multiple tattoos that represents the important aspects of me.

I did tattoos based on music, comics, etc. I decided to do these types of tattoos, because they were all things that I enjoy on a daily basis. I enjoy these things whether I'm happy, sad, mad, or tired. While making the art work before I made them into tattoo, I was able to really think about things that help me feel happy through out my life. I feel as if I was able to accomplish my original goal of making tattoo art have an impact on members of the community. I believe this because many people through the day were talking to me about the things that I had drawn around my arm.

As an aspiring artist I want to create artwork that people can look at and say “ Wow, She Worked Hard On That”. Some people think that they have to have experience , or know how to draw in order to create beautiful artwork. But I create art to show them that you don’t have to know how to make art to make art, all you need is inspiration and imagination.

In order to come up with an idea for my next piece of art I do some self searching and a little bit of inspiration searching as well. Most of my art pieces consists of my favorite colors or something that I think represents me and the community I live in. Materials come after I make my theme decision, depending on how it looks that's how I decide if it’ll look better painted or drawn. Most of the time I would decide to do something big that everyone will be able to see, and other times I would just use a simple canvas.

The picture that is posted above is my current work, nothing special. Like I said it just consisted of my favorite colors and I made it big enough for everyone to see. I used geometry as my inspiration, just because working with shapes and knowing how to incorporate different shades of one color is something that I've wanted to try. None of my past work is in relation to this one.

This was more than an assignment, this was one way for me to meditate. Art is meditation. What exactly is art? Art is what I love, it’s music, dance, drawing, painting, cooking, seeing something that’s breathtakingly beautiful in my own pupils. This piece of art like any other arts is beautiful. Meditation for me and maybe you is to find peace within yourself. I did find peace while working on this piece. I can say that because while doing the painting I found myself in a quiet and calm peace of mind. I can also say that it was challenging completing this painting. But I overcame those challenges. I learned many things and I’m please with my project.

Artist statement

Space, it is a wide endless wasteland. However even emptiness has beautiful secrets within it. That is exactly the message that I was trying to convey when creating my art piece. In my piece I really tried to focus on the movement and thickness of the paint lines. When first conceiving ideas, It was important to me to make the entire piece a focal point instead of just one particular part of the picture. That way It can be taken in for all it is. The painting was meant to have an abstract feel, lined with a sense of freeness. It was tough trying to figure what my painting should be, or even if should be a painting in the first place. To say the least it was a very strenuous and slow process. However once I decided what my piece should be it was engraved in my mind. Sometimes I can visualized an idea so well I can feel as though it is right in front of me, on the other hand, I can be so blocked that it seems as though any ideas I have immediately fall right out of my brain and boom, crash, splash onto the ground they go. This project piece was conjured in my mind relatively quickly. I put a lot of effort into placing things where they are and color schemes, and overall look, because of course I am a sort of perfectionist when it comes to art, and of course nothing ever seems finished. However once I stepped back and absorbed what I had created and then I smiled and was surely satisfied and proud of the work I had done.

"Fauvism and Natural Hair"

Posted by Moesha Grant in ART ADV - Hertz - b2 on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 12:40 pm

As an artist, I create art to demonstrate the meaning of self expression and freedom. I hope to achieve the gift of attracting someone to explore that art world, who doesn’t like art. My goal when creating art is to do something out of usual or express creativity. I started off thinking art was just for people who loved to draw, but art is for anyone who loves to create the unexpected like me!

Part of my process before I begin any of my art is to think about what I like and to research any type of art that fits this category. The techniques I utilize is if the art form matches a part of my identity.

My current piece I’ve just created is “Fauvism and Natural Hair.” I created the theme of the piece by taking my love for watching natural hair videos on YouTube and how the art form of fauvism is so colorful. I am attempting to show how beautiful and free spirited women with natural hair all. I used various colors because fauvism is known for being full of vivid colors. I made a woman with natural curly hair on one side of my canvas and straight hair on the other. The colors also showed how fierce women with natural hair are.

As an artist, I try to just gather all my current emotions into a funky idea for an art piece.

Project & Artist Statement

My artwork is something I take very seriously. I enjoy expressing things through art that I cannot exactly say in words. Many of my pieces seem simple but have great meaning behind them. My creations are always significant to me personally, even if it is just a single flower to the naked eye. I am somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to my artwork. Therefore, I am rarely happy with my creations. The closer I am to my vision, the more pleased I will be. I usually illustrate things in black and white because I like for things to look clean and precise. For that reason, I tend to use lead pencils for my rough drafts and sharp tipped pens for my final copies. However, in this project in particular, I decided to add color to make my quotes stand out.

Cinder The Twisted Cinderella Tale In The Future

Posted by Nigeria Parker in ART ADV - Hertz - b2 on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 12:50 pm

I decided to do fan art. I’ve never done it before and the book that I read didn’t have a picture that would show the most important character. The author gave very little mental pictures of the character besides that she is a robot and alien who thought she was human. I drew this picture based on the picture that I saw in my mind. In my art work as a whole I like to tell stories. Every story has its unique ending and beginning. Depending on the story, if it's happy I tend to use bright colors and if the story is sad or stressful I would use dark colors.

In my art work there is a story. There is a girl named Cinder. She is part alien and part robot, who thinks she’s human. The girl is dirty because of her job, as a mechanic. The job that her step mother made her get so that Cinder could provide for her step sisters and her step mother. To paint my picture I used paint and sharpie markers. I put a lot of time and effort. At first I didn’t think that I could do it but when I got to the end of the painting it doesn’t look to bad.
