Computer Science Project

I did my project on Code HS, where I had to give this dog named Karel commands to do things with different levels. Some examples of the commands were I had to tell him to pick up and put down balls, move, turn right and turn left. This gave me many challenges which I wanted to give up because I felt stuck many times. This website though has taught me to be patient and find the little mistakes. It showed that coding takes time and you will have to restart your whole code often. If you make the simplest mistake like not indenting something or putting a ; it will mess up your whole code and it wont work. Its frustrating but the satisfaction of the success when you complete the code is worth it. Coding is everywhere in this world since we are now a technological world and everything is dependent on technology. But everything is about technology is stupid without a code from a human built into it. Without people knowing how to code we wouldn't have game consoles, computers, etc. If anyone else wanted to do this project I would tell them to go for it but have a lot of patience and concentration.

3D Modelling Project: Q2

Posted by Asmar Beyah in Intro to Design and Multmiedia on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 10:53 am

My 3D project shows a home. I decided to design that because I feel as though that is where everyone feels or should feel comfortable there. Houses come in many different designs but I chose this one because I like the way it looks. At first, I had to figure out how to use Tinkercad and it’s different tools. I was required to complete three lessons that was given to me on the Tinkercad website. One of my failures was scaling the car and garage. The car was way too big to ever fit in the garage so I had to make the car smaller. I didn’t have any other failures, other things were tweaks to make the design look better. I learned that making a design on any website or designing program is not simple. There is a lot of measuring and you can never make your design perfect on your first try. You will need to edit and tweak some things to make it look nice in your eyes and other people’s eyes. I learned that I tend to not try my hardest when I think a project is simple or not complex. I misunderstood the level of difficulty of this project and didn’t try my best with the design or with the process of this project. I would spend more time actually perfecting the design if I was able to re-do this project. That would give me the time to be more creative with my design and make it look way better. I would advise that no one should underestimate this project, especially if you are working on 3D modeling. This project didn’t give me any inspiration, it just showed me what it’s like to work on a project that has to do with computer modelling. This tool let me show visually that you should always feel comfortable at home or know that there is no place like home. I designed a home so the thought of someone being comfortable at their own home. Hopefully this inspired them to design their very own house and whenever they need to make themselves feel comfortable, they look at their design.

Image Editing

Posted by Ashton Woodson in Intro to Design and Multmiedia on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 9:28 pm

For my quarter two project I decided to do the image design project. From this project I hope to learn how to better my image editing skills. Before I knew a little bit about editing images. Only because when I wanted to post a picture on social media depending on the image I would add a filter and such. When doing things of that nature I would use an image editing app called PicsArt. But, when doing this project I learned about a new software called Pixlr. At first it was challenging because I never used it before. After playing around with it I taught myself how to merge images and I thought that was cool. Learning how to take two images to make a completely new one.

When first starting this project I had trouble. So to start off I had to select the images I wanted to edit. That’s where I had some trouble. I had trouble because it was hard to find a copyright free image.  Next, I had to find a software to edit my photos I chose.

My success would be creating three different images in one day. Also, learning how to use a new program on my own. One major failure would be not turning my checkpoints in on time. I think i would overcome this by doing checkpoints ahead of time instead of the last moment.

The biggest thing I learned was learning how to merge images and blurring certain areas of the images. I learned that I have a very keen eye for abstract art. If I had to do this project differently I would stop trying to crm everything in at one time. I would do things in a time consuming matter. Don’t be scared to make mistake and be creative! It inspired me to edit more images on my spare time. Other than the images which is copyright free then no. There is no Proper citations for any work that isn’t mines. I really didn’t have a message to convey. But, this project did give me the ability to get a better understanding of image editing.

Project Statement

Media & Design

My project’s purpose was to show people a sneak peek of what my life look likes. It’s just a short little clips of days in my life on a regular day basis. The video clips just show normal things and what I may have been doing at that time. The goal of the project was to show a full week of what I do throughout the day but, since I got so caught up I didn’t really get a full chance to show my week. I recorded for about 3 or 4 days. The only thing that I wanted to learn or wanted the people who watched the video to learn is a little about me and what goes on in my life. The steps that I took to create this project is just simply took out my camera and recorded for a couple of days. I ended up using a video editing website to edit my videos into one. Some failures that I encountered during the project is having my time under control. I seemed to take too much time with certain topics and never really got to the full point. I also had a struggle with looking decent in my videos, since I was in the house all the time I never looked decent. A failure that I kind of got over with is I decided to make the video a little more interesting by adding other bloopers clips to make the video actual look interesting, since it was boring in the beginning. What I learned through making the video is that it was going to be harder than I thought. If you don’t have a specific time management for the project then the videos will be all over the place and not fully together. I also noticed that if you aren’t consistent with the work than the project can look effortless. I learned through the process that my life isn’t really that interesting and it looks like my life is boring in the video. I also learned about myself that I am a very interesting person and I can make the simplest things seem interesting. I always to make things work even if it’s at a bad start. If I was able to do the project over again I would most likely use my time management a lot better. I did things at the last minute in the project and that messed me up. I feel like if I had planned more activities and showed videos of me doing those things then my video could have been a lot more fun and interesting. Also if I decided to record more at night it would have been interesting because I’m out more at night and things get more interesting. If I were to give tips to someone who was completing this project I would say use your time wisely and don’t wait until the last minute to film or to create what you want to do for the project. I also would say if you’re filming plan ideas for what you want to record. Basically have a plan ahead of time. This project inspired me to create more videos for my projects of me interaction. It inspired me to teach someone else about the project and help them out. I should also say you should be able to cite your work if you use any information from the internet or a website. The video editing helped me to convey the message is because I was able to properly collage the videos together to make one whole video to show. Last thing to add is, the project was a lot of fun and you learn things about yourself and others.

Quarter 2 Project - Aliya

Posted by Aliya Rouine in Intro to Design and Multmiedia on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 8:35 pm

For my project, I chose image editing.  I originally was going to a picture of a door in a dark room with a beautiful picture on the other side. That was really hard to figure out how to do.  I watched videos but I could not figure out how to use it on Pixlr.  A success I had with this project is just learning how to use image editing websites, it was something I have never done before.  A failure I had with this project was learning how to crop pictures into another picture.  Some skills I learned from doing this project is some of the tools used in image editing.  An example of this is changing the entire color of the object.  Something I learned about myself with completing this project is that this is not something I really enjoy doing.  It was cool to explore the website and play around with the pic but technology/photo editing is not my strong suit.  I learned to have more patience with working with this stuff even when it gets hard.  If I were to do this project again I would learn more about the website and how to work it better.  I feel like I would of had a better outcome in the end.  Some tips I have for someone completing the project is make sure you watch enough tutorials to understand what website you are using to edit your image.  This project has inspired me to improve my photo editing skills in the future.  The website did not necessarily help with the message of my pic, but add more details to the pic.

Computer Science

Posted by Brandon James in Intro to Design and Multmiedia on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 10:21 pm

For my Q2 benchmark I chose to do the computer science project. Honestly I didn't know what i had hoped to learn I just thought it would be fun to do. Over the course of this project I was required to go through many different challenges using different skill types. The challenge problems were very hard to do and some i couldn't even get the code right. It was hard to find a way to code using the right techniques that will work in multiple situation. The tutorial videos were very easy to understand and they taught you how to complete the lessons. I learned how to solve problems using coding. Usually for the activities I would use one specific code for a problem, but I had to learn how to use one code to solve multiple problems. This project taught me how I can find/use one solution for multiple problems. If I were to do this project again I wouldn’t change anything. If anyone else were to try doing this I would tell them to have fun and make sure they aren’t distracted so they can think about the problems.

Graphic Design

Graphic Design
Graphic Design
Quarter 2, I did a project on Graphic Design,in which I needed to bring shapes together to portray an image without using words that would explain the image. This image needed to be a road sign that could give direction to the drivers. The process was interesting and tedious. At first I wasn’t aware that the sign could not include words so when I sketched my sign; I decided to do road construction up ahead. I loved drawing it,but I found a large difficulty in finding a website that could actually help me achieve my goal. Eventually I ended up with pixlr graphic design tool website. I did not like how it worked and it didn’t have many shapes.I believe it was best with editing an image more than making an image. I did the best I could with that, but I did not believe that it was worthy of submission because I did not like how it was portrayed. So, I asked my fellow class members who also had Graphic Design project and most of them used pixel, but I one classmate used another designing tool website called ipiccy. This website was extremely better than pixel it had shapes that I could use and editing features that made it easy to transform my project into something I had better faith in.
A success I had was re-doing my sign over with another graphic design website. The image came out so much better and clearer that I felt like I accomplished something. My failure that I had in this project was trying to make something off of pixlr;it was a waste of time and the outcome was not good. I learned, for this project, that images are made of shapes and you can use any shapes to make that image. I learned that when making my image if I don’t have confidence in it,than it’s not worthy to be submitted because if I don’t have confidence in my own image than I could do better. I learned that when making this image I need to pay attention to comments and the feedback because to make a better image for others to understand, their perspective is important. I learned, about myself, that I should have high expectations for my work and not settle for anything less. I need to be confident in my work and work hard to submit the project.
If I were to do this project differently I would look for other graphic design websites, rather than just taking what is suggested to me. Although, it was suggested I still have the option to look for others. Also, any tips I have for future projects would be to work hard to achieve your goal. This project inspired me to have high expectations for myself in any project, in any class.

There is simply no substitute for hard work when it comes to achieving success.

In this graphic design project we had to create a road sign that represents a real or fake situation or direction.  The sign should have any words, just images to convey your message.  In order for me to complete this project I had to choose a platform where I was going to create my sign. I took me a while to find one because I had to try all of them to see which ones I was most comfortable with. I ended up choosing YouiDraw  to make my design. I encountered some problems on the way because YouiDraw doesn’t save your work automatically. So Ms Hertz told me to use Pixlr instead, but that didn’t help because it was really hard to use. I ended up using YouiDraw again and figured out how to use it. For you to save your work you had to lock each movement you did so it can save, but don’t exit out the tab or it'll delete. I learned that I need to look at whatever tool I'm using thoroughly before giving up because I ended up finding a solution to my problem. I learned that I can be creative with different tools to make designs, even htough it's not always easy you'll find some way to do it.
