Toxic City: Infographic

Posted by Jadaline Torres in Environmental Science · Aziz · C on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 10:10 pm

When learning about the lead poisoning that has been occurring in Philadelphia, I was very surprised at what I read. Philadelphia has the high poverty rate and the highest lead poisoning percentages in Philadelphia neighborhoods. I was also shocked at the fact that the lead paints being chipped from old buildings/schools, has a sweet taste to children. In conclusion to what I had read and to this mini project, I still wonder why and how these percentages are still so high without no attention/intentions of lowering them.

Sustainable business

All of earths systems work with each other to a create sustainable life. Understanding environmental aid will help you when natural disasters occur. You will have an idea why the natural disaster took place and its effects. To create a sustainable future I would influence recycling as much as we can.

How do the earth systems affect each other?
The earth systems help the planet carry out important missions it needs to provide sustainability for all life that lives on it. If one is out of whack then all the systems could fail.

How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters?

We can learn how bad disasters are and try to think of ways to help.

What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future?

We have to have more than people change their habits we need everyone and everything to change their habits in order to make a big enough change.

Earths system affects each other in like a cause and effect kind of way. What I mean by this is there's something that causes a change in the environment, for example, a change in the atmosphere can affect the biosphere, and changes in the biosphere can affect the atmosphere and one example of this is pollution in the atmosphere, us humans affect the atmosphere which in exchange affects us(the biosphere). With an understanding of environmental science, you are able to gain knowledge of what creates natural disasters and how to prevent it and if it's too late for preventing it then you look at how to take this thing head on/ how to prepare for it and when that's done you can look for ways to prevent it. We can focus on recycling as well as pollution. Most college students use bikes to travel instead of cars and this is because there isn't that much distance between your campus and your designated destination, and if your destination is far; use the train or what we like to call "The Sub" which is underground and won't produce as much carbon emissions as cars. Recycle to reduce the amount of contaminated water as well as deaths within the ocean/river economy; just recycle.

All our Earth's systems impact and affect each other. They all function in a cycle and help each other prosper. For example, the biosphere needs water to thrive and the hydrosphere and atmosphere supply water to it. If you understand environmental science it can go a great deal in aiding with the handling of natural disasters. By having an understanding, you can properly evaluate what to do and how bad the effects of the natural disasters are. You can offer solutions to the damage they cause. Efforts that we can make to make a sustainable future are conserving resources and using naturally produced energy to power things. For example, transforming kinetic energy or solar energy into energy that powers buildings.

In our earth the systems effect each other because they all build from each other. The systems of the earth must be sustained because if one is drastically affected than that will make another fail then more and more. To create a sustainable future humans should work on being more cautious of how much we use rather than waste. Some things we could be mindful of is electricity, food, and recycling waste. If we all made the same efforts the world could be more sustainable instantly. I feel like sustainability is harder than people who advocate make it seem I have tried to be more sustainable but I am currently sitting here with a plugged in laptop, phone, tv on, and lights on. It's really harder than it seems but I'll try.

Healthcare Sustainability

All of the earth systems generally would not be able to properly function if they did not have one another. The biosphere receives its energy from the atmosphere. It receives water from the hydrosphere and a living medium from the geosphere. It's almost like a domino effect. With one system, comes another, and another, and so fourth. Understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters, can help us to be prepared for what ever natural disaster comes next so we can be away from harm. In order to making a sustainable future that works for everyone, we must build it on a foundation of higher awareness. It is important to make it out to everyone in a matter that is heard. Gaining people's attention with information that they care about will make it easier for them to follow. This project helped me to understand that even something that we see everyday, and don't think too hard about can effect our environment either negatively and/or positively. Understanding sustainability as well as how bad it can effect a business was fairly interesting. Figuring out ways that can allow our Earth to be healthier and last much longer was really enjoyable. It effects us whether we care or not, it's important to become informed on things -- especially when it's something that is in our everyday lives.

1. How do the earth systems affect each other? Earth systems affect each other because they are constantly interacting with one another. When we mine for materials in the geosphere this  interacts with the atmosphere and hydrosphere by putting different elements into the air and run off to the water.
 2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? Understanding environmental science can help in handling natural disasters because it protects people during natural disaster, also it makes it easier to predict the disaster, and know how they will impact different areas of the world.
3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? We can create a sustainable future by reducing the number of resources used, recycling properly, using reusable energy/energy saving products.
Reaction: This project helped me get a better understanding of the different elements that we extract form the world and how we can find ways in witch they are more sustainable environment where the Earth can be around for longer.

Information Presentation: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1KFjeIWUc8Ws7x8OpwkmbsSdzDSTtLVRbsHE0YL3NGek/edit?usp=sharing 1. How do the earth systems affect each other? Earth systems affect each other because they are constantly interacting with one another. For example, the geosphere interacts with the atmosphere when certain resources are mined and used and gases are released and stored in the atmosphere. 2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? Understanding environmental science can aid in handling natural disasters because it gives us a way to keep people safe during the disaster, predict the disaster, and know how bad it will be. 3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? Efforts we can make to create a sustainable future are but are not limited to: reducing the number of resources used, recycling properly, using reusable energy/energy saving products, stop using resources that create an unhealthy atmosphere such as coal, etc. Reaction: This project helped me get a better understanding of the environment and how to create a better and healthier environment where humans and the Earth can hold a sustainable relationship with one another.

They are all codependent on each other. You cannot have a biosphere without a geosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. 2. Understanding natural disasters can help during a natural disaster because you'll know the important things you should be preparing for. 3. Like in our project, we used a lot of sustainable energy. Things that are going to produce the least amount of greenhouse gases and reduce our eco-footprint. I'm not saying that just one person can fix this, it's a group effort. Everyone has to contribute if we want our earth to last as long as possible.
