Scorpious Constellation

Posted by William Sigler in PHYSICS 1 - Gray - D on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 1:39 pm

This was a very interesting project and for me it was a brilliant way to encase who I am and what personality I have. When I think of the two different stereotypical Scorpios I think of myself as one of them and my traits being aggressive and witty. And the reason it has great significance to me because when people look up the horoscope they see my personality. I thought it was a very clever way when I incorporated the lights as the stars in the string of the constellations. When I was constructing my project I thought about what other people would see when they looked at my project and I had gotten the reactions I was hoping for. When people had looked at my project they didn't quite get what constellation it was but after explaining people often said “wow that’s a good idea I wish I would have thought of that.  I hope you find it interesting in what I did  and thank you for your time.

Electric Art Project

~Artist Statement~

The reason why we have pick out the sculpture we had made which was the “ Android” was because we thought it would be cool to do a thing that looks like a robot and we also decide to make it out of clay because we wanted it to be easy to make. We choose to make the “android” also because we both have android phone. #TEAMANDROID

What our sculpture says about us is that we both have android phones. Android phones help us out.

The reason why I chose the Creeper head.

Artist statement:

For this physics project, we had to create an electric art piece, by creating or using whatever we want, that has a meaningful value to us. At first this was hard for me to choose, but then it came to me so clearly, I was going to make my sculpture out of a Creepers head from the video game Minecraft. The reason why I choose to use a Creepers head because it would be simple and easy to make, but the real reason why is because Minecraft is one of my most favorite games, and I take the game highly serious. The game is an online, or single player sandbox world, a sandbox world is a type of game where you can do or create anything you want, and it expands, so you can go to different places and do different things, how ever you like. The Creeper is a monster from the video game that only spawns at night, and if it sees you it will chase, and when it gets close to you it explodes, thus killing you in the game. There are also other terrifying monsters in the game. I chose to do the creeper because it is my favorite and also one of the most terrifying monsters, plus I just thought it be really cool to make a creeper head. This creeper head means alot to me because, I really love the game, I even consider the video game to be part of my life because I just really love it. The creeper represents my love for the video game and the mob itself, this game shows that I am also a huge fan of video games.

The Glow Up Microphone

Posted by Salina Beattie in PHYSICS 1 - Gray - D on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 1:31 pm

The sculpture that we decided to do was a microphone. We both like music so we thought that a microphone would be a good representation for our love of music. We both agree that music is a big stress reliever for both of us. Music plays a big part in our lives also. In the end, this is why we decided to pick our art to be a microphone.

With this layout my partner and I plan to put this layout inside a casing of any hard material. We plan to use two wires coming from each side of the battery to connect the bulbs into parallel. Our casing will have holes into it so we the switch is hit on (which is a connection of wires) the bulbs will light through the holes in our material. When our switch connects resistance is higher on three bulbs and low on one. Causing three bulbs to be dim while one is fully lit.

For our project, Shaelin and I built a model of a rocket and included a launching pad. Our original plan was to make a basketball, but we thought. This school has been so good to us throughout the year, so why not make a model of it? Well making a model of the school would take a little too much construction, also a few of our classmates already had that idea. So we decided to make a the symbol of our school. A rocket. Although we didn’t have all the supplies to make it look perfect and we aren’t very good artist, we made the best of what we could find and tried our hardest to make it look good.

On this project we created “THE ROCKET” is a unique bottled rocket with lights at the bottom. This rocket symbolizes our school mascot. It represents our school, That is the reason we created it. We also created this because we both would like to be engineers when we grow up and rockets involve a lot of engineering to build them so we’d like to make rockets later on.

We choose to make this sculpture because we both love to watch and play basketball. We both like playing sports and we wanted to do a sculpture that is off of a sport and since we like basketball  so much we choose basketball. We also play video games that are basketball related like 2k.We was thinking of choosing football but we like basketball a lot better and we thought it would be more interesting if we did basketball because if we choose football we would just have drawn a football and that would have not be better then drawing a hoop and a basketball. This sculpture just says about us that we like sports and basketball is the sport we like most.

Our partnership chose to make a replica of the Science Leadership Academy@Beeber building. Not only is it a great school, it’s where we will be building our futures. So we wanted to represent something important in our lives. In doing this project, it took time, energy, and dedication to create a pretty decent and sturdy model.

Shadiyah: This project is important to me because it is a fun, educational way to build a circuit including the resistors. Also, this project is important because it helps me understand about a circuit and the equations of a resistor and how to find the resistors in a circuit. One reason I did this project was because I wanted to add a challenge to building it while including  bulbs, wires, a battery, and wire tape. Me and my partner built a Christmas tree. It is 11 inches with copper wire to build and wire tape to hold the pieces together.

Emanuel: This project is important to me because, not only did I have a fun way to practice using circuits, but I got to learn new things about how to connect circuits. Me and my partner built a modern style Christmas tree. Its about 11 inches tall and has to separate halves. The main structure is made of thick copper wire. We used wire tape to hold it all together. This sculpture is important and meaningful to me because it symbolizes one of my favorite holidays and I put a lot of thought into it.

#Unbothered

For this project we had to create an art piece in which we incorporate a circuit that will electrically light up, using one battery. So we (Amani and Aaliyah) came up with a “Hashtag Unbothered” theme. What is Hashtag Unbothered? Hashtag Unbothered is a very popular hashtag used on social media, especially twitter.  The term is usually used with females and means showing or feeling a lack of concern about or interest in something. In our opinion, this project shows a lot about the both of us, because if its negative or against something I believe or care about I don’t feel the need to care. This also shows that we are very into social media which is why we are using very popular terminology. This shows that we are very creative with the idea. Lastly, this is one of Aaliyah’s favorite hashtags on the internet right now.

For the project we will use cardboard as our main piece. The hashtag part of the project will light up with light bulbs. We will have 6 bulbs that light up. First we will cut out and paint the piece of cardboard before writing out hash tag unbothered. Then we will figure out the placement of the bulbs and how the will would make it light up. Next we will begin to play around with lights until we were able to create a circuit that will be able to light up. We want to create a parallel circuit. After finding a way to light it we will put holes in the hashtag and that's where the lights will light up and be shown. Finally we will have to secure our circuit to the back of the project.
