For the fourth quarter, we were told to recreate something that our artist had done or created. I chose to do Frida Kahlo. I study Frida Kahlo and looked at all her paintings and her history. She is someone that people can look up to, she was in an accident and still proceeded to live her life even after she was depressed. She started her painting career while she always in bed. She would always paint of the reality that is occurring around her. I also choose her because we come from the same background and culture and it’s nice learning from someone who comes from where you come from. I got inspired to paint Frida Kahlo but just half of her face. I used bright colors too because I think she might have liked it. I painted the background orange and I painted some flowers on her head which are red and one yellow. I thought it would be nice to paint her instead of a portrait of myself because I believe I wouldn’t do a good job painting myself, so I painted her instead. The process for this painting wasn’t long. I just sketch it out and then I started to paint but when the paint was dried, I traced the whole thing with a black sharpie to close everything together. I also didn’t have much trouble with this, the only I problem I had was creating the skin tone color for her. I mixed colors and nothing was coming together so with tons of mixing I came to this brownish-grayish and I used it but overall I don’t think I would change anything about this painting.

Ivana Gutierrez's Capstone

Posted by Ivana Gutierrez in Senior Capstone · Epps · ILP/TFI/CAP on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11:22 pm

As the year ends we are close to presenting our final project for the year! For my senior capstone I decided to be a bit more creative with myself. I chose to do special effects makeup (sfx), because of my capstone I believe it allowed me to demonstrate of what I am capable of doing and also I believe it’s a fun way of being creative. What I did for project was make two videos, one of the process and the other of all the final looks. Each look took me about an hour and half to create. In the video everything is sped up so it wouldn’t be a long video when someone is watching it. I created three different looks but similar at the same time, they were all horror and gore. The first one I created was a scary clown and I used my brother as the model for it. The second look I created was a torn off face and the last look I created was monster with scary teeth. Both those I created on myself. From creating this project I learned that there is another side of just using regular makeup, there is also other ways to be creative and that hopefully this can inspire others to try something different.

Q3 Benchmark Drug Addiction on the Brain

Posted by Ivana Gutierrez in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11:58 pm
Reflection: For this benchmark project my group chose to do Drug Addiction and how it affects the human brain. I learn that drugs trigger on your reward system and that is why people can get addicted. Drugs harm the Limbic System, the brain stem, and the Cerebral Cortex. I found this topic interesting to research because I learned something new. Also there many ways that can help stop drug addiction.

Q2 Project Limited Palette Painting

Posted by Ivana Gutierrez in Art 2 · Hertz · C1 on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 1:34 pm
For the Second Quarter, we were able to choose what we wanted our project to be and I decided I wanted to do Limited Palette Painting. Which we had to create a painting using no more than 5 colors but we were able to mix the colors up to make more different colors. What I created was the rose in the glass vase from The beauty and the Beast and on the top, it says “Tale as old as time”. The five colors I used were blue, red, yellow, black and white. I believed that using the basic colors were the better route. I made my own canvas. I use a medium size block of wood and I use this fabric for the paint to go on. I decided to create this paint of the rose in the glass vase because The Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney princess movie. The background of the painting suppose to be a galaxy night. The top is black going into blue and then into purple. Then it’s the vase with the rose and some petals are falling off inside. The rose is outline red and is painted pink. The vase is traced with black. The quote is traced with yellow.  I first made my own canvas and next, I drew out the rose with the glass vase. Which was not that hard to draw. Next, I started the painting. It was a bit difficult because of the way the brushes were. They weren’t very helpful. I didn’t paint the background where the rose it at because I’m scared if I paint it, I would mess it up. So I left it white.
The tools I basically used to do this was just a pencil,l paint brushes, paint, and paint markers.
What I’m most proud of about this project would be that I did my own canvas and that I liked the way I drew out the rose with the glass vase. If there is a chance I can change something I would change the way I used the brushes or get other brushes that would be better.
In conclusion, I learned that creating a piece like this is pretty tough because you have to be careful when tracing lines and also when coloring it in is pretty hard. I believe if I had better brushes it could’ve come out better.

Q2 Water Pollution Benchmark

Posted by Ivana Gutierrez in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11:26 pm

Our video is a PSA of water pollution. It’s basically me and my group members speaking on the topic and how it can be resolved. We chose this topic because we believed that water pollution is an important factor that we should know. We use water everyday and we can die if we don’t have it. Water is important to everything that is living.

What I contribute to the project was by giving ideas and editing the video. I believe we could’ve done better in recording more for our video and adding more information. The most meaningful part of this experience of creating the PSA is learning about water pollution and how it can affect us and ways we can prevent it.

Toxic City Infographic

Posted by Ivana Gutierrez in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 11:25 pm
I learned something new from this assignment. I never knew that Philadelphia was the highest city with the highest percentage of lead. I also learned that lead is mostly in the poor neighborhoods or low income neighborhoods. What stood out to me was it's mostly towards children because they eat the paint. I believe that the landlords should replace the paint. I wonder if the number of children keeps on increasing is there going to be a solution to this.

Portrait Project

Posted by Ivana Gutierrez in Art 2 · Hertz · C1 on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 8:51 am
For the first project for Quarter 1 we had to make a portrait that communicates something, and or reflects a culture or personal experiences. We had a choice of choosing different materials to make our portrait but our portrait had to be on a 4.25” x 5.5” piece of paper. The way I would describe my portrait to someone is by telling them to imagine the Mexican flag, Green on the left, White in the middle, and Red on the right. In the middle of the flag, there is an eagle in which you can’t see on my portrait because on my portrait I drew a pair of holding hands. The holding hands are mostly covering the flag on my portrait but you can still see the colors of the flag. Also on my portrait, the flag seems to be cracked there two cracks on the flag. So what I’m basically trying to say or communicate through my portrait is when the earthquake that just had happen in Mexico this year which was really bad. Many people’s homes and other buildings were destroyed. Many people died because of the earthquake, a family member of mine passed away due to the earthquake. So I want to show that people in Mexico can unite and get together no matter what and overcome anything that comes their way and that they are going to overcome it. So to create this portrait I used not to many materials. I just used watercolor paint, the watercolor paintbrush, and newspaper to keep myself from making a mess on the table and lastly, I used a Micro Pen. For the watercolor paint I just dipped the paintbrush in the water and then I rubbed it on the color I was using to get some product and then I started to paint. For the micro pen, I traced everything that needed to be traced after my portrait was dry. I believe that this relates to another project that I did in the 2nd or 3rd grade, where we had to paint the objects that were modeling for us. I used paint for both projects. For me getting the project done wasn’t hard. It was an easy process. I first thought of what I wanted to do. Next, I drew out the idea in my sketchbook and just drew what would be good. Then I started to trace that onto the paper that was given to us to use for our final product and started to add color and Lastly I fixed several mistakes if I had any. An artist who also is similar to my work is Frank Webb. He uses watercolor paint for his artwork and so did I. http://http://www.artshow.com/webb/ A technique that you should know is important towards your work is using your time wisely. Don’t do everything at last minute because then perhaps your project might not come out the way you would want it to.  Also, there is really not a technique that I learned this time. The most thing I'm proud of is that I drew something that meant to me. If I were to get the chance to change something I wouldn’t change anything but the position the holding hands are.
What I learn from completing this project is that looking at other people's work we had different ideas and the creative was different from one another, we all think different. We chose something from experiences or culture that really represented us. Also just to have fun in what we are creating is what really counts.

Natural Disasters and Earth System Research

Posted by Ivana Gutierrez in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 9:22 pm

Our project was easy to do because we found the information we needed right away. We did a website for this project because we thought it would be easy to do and it would creative. I learned more about the 4 basic elements which were Hydrosphere, Biosphere, Geosphere, and Atmosphere. Also, I learned how hurricanes start and how they end. When all the earth's systems affect each there's a process that moves matter and energy from one sphere to another.

Q4 Final Benchmark

Posted by Ivana Gutierrez in Intro to Design and Multmiedia on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 12:01 am
Slide #1 : Hello this my Ignite presentation and I will be showing you the slides that I made.

Slide #2: For Q1 we was able to create our own website and I wanted to showcase an overall section of my life.. As you can see, I had made a change to my website.

Slide #3: My goal for this project was to complete it and make it look nice. Also for people to see my work page. As you can see we had to add home page, all about me page, a project page, and a resume page and also a contact page.

Slide #4: I had liked the way it came out at first but after a while I thought it was to dark and boring, so I changed it and tried to make it lighter which is now pink.

Slide #5: For Q2 I did the Graphic design project. We had to create a road sign that was creative and never been around.

Slide #6: My goal for this project was to do something creative and funny and something that I seen in scare movies. A  "beware" sign is what I did. Which is a person jumping or running out in front of a car late at night.

Slide #7:The project was a little hard because I used different websites to create what I wanted but I used pixlr.com and I did a sketch and then did the final drawing.

Slide #8: For Q3 I chose to do a video. We needed to make at least 1-3 minutes long. So thats what I did but I worked with a classmate sakura seal. We used wevideo to make our video and it went to 4 minutes long but it was fine.

Slide #9: We made a riddle video. Our goal was to make people laugh. The people in the video and the people watching it. Which me and Sakura did achieve.

Slide #10: The video was a success because we got the project done and put it on youtube and got a good grade on it. An 89 we got.

Slide #11: I revise my website project, as I said earlier. I found out that I made it dark, so I wanted to change the theme and it make it brighter.

Slide #12: I used not a lot of tools to change things on my website. I used different fonts and changed the background. That really wasn't much.

Slide #13: As you can see, instead of being black and blue I changed it to pink and white. I thought it would be nicer and prettier.

Slide #14: My high point would be that I succeeded all my projects and I learned about new websites and how to use them, which now i can use outside of class.

Slide #15: An area of growth would be when I realized that in everything you do there would be challenges and you have to overcome them to succeeded. Like i did for all this projects.

Slide #16: I can use the skill that I learned of editing videos and photos in my other classes besides this class or even maybe when I get to college.

Slide #17: An Idea that I might have for the next class is to be creative with your project.

Slide #18: Tip #1 that I have is to do all your checkpoints on time and well done. Don't waste time on other things. Use you time wisely.

Slide #19: Tip #2 that I have is to ask for help when you need it. Don't be afraid to ask because you don't want to be stuck on something and not overcome it. Ask a the teacher or any of your classmates.

Slide #20: Last Tip #3 that I have is don't stress over it, be creative and have fun but do your best. That's what counts.

Q3 Final Project

Posted by Ivana Gutierrez in Intro to Design and Multmiedia on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 10:33 pm

PROJECT STATEMENT:

For this quarter 3 project I decided to create a video. I worked with another student in my class who is Sakura Seals. We came up with the idea to make a comedy video, which was asking people riddles and see what their response was going to be, if either it was going to be wrong or correct. My goals for this project was to finish it and to have fun and to have a laugh while doing it with my friend. I learn that I like to edit and record videos, i find that fun. The tool that I use to create the video was WeVideo and the tools that I edit the video were graphics, transitions, audio, and text.   The process of creating this project was pretty easy, we just looked up some riddles that would’ve been easy but hard at the same time to answer. Next, we asked people in our school if they wanted to be asked questions and they agreed. Then, we recorded it and put it on the editing software. Finally, we edit it and published it. We encounter like a several couple of failures while recording some of the clips. One of them was there wasn’t enough space on the phone to record, the second one was some of the clips were blurry, and the last one was we had some background noise but we overcame it. The way we fixed our problems was erasing some of the content on the phone, we recorded some of the videos over again and lastly we found a place where there wasn’t a lot of noise in the background. I learned something new about myself through creating this and it was that I like working with my friends and that while doing it, you have fun creating it even if it’s for school. If we were able to do this over again I think I would ask better questions and tell people to speak louder but other than that I wouldn’t change anything.

This Q3 video project inspired me to do more videos like this. They are fun to do. The tools that I used to create the video help convey the message of the video by giving me the option to pick what I need to make the video flow together and for it to make sense.

Q2 Graphic Design Project

Beware Sign 14
Beware Sign 14

For this project we had to create a road sign that represents either a real or fictional situation or directions. We were not the able to describe what is happening on the road sign but just phrases. For example like “Beware” or “Stop”. We had to use images and or symbols to convey our message.  We did this project to convey our creation. My goals for this project was to create something that I see frequently in the scary movies. I wanted to create a beware sign. So in the my creative piece I wanted to car and a person in front of them. My message is to beware of people running in front of your car in the middle of the night asking for help. I learned that throughout this project it’s hard coming up with a sign and sketching the sign. The website that I used was pretty hard. So I had a hard time looking for a website to design my road sign, but I ended up using pixlr.com, I found it pretty hard to use. With the design I had time as well. At first I wanted to make a person running through the forest but it was hard to create that so I ended up with doing the car and someone in front of them. The failures that I had was getting a website to use. I found it difficult to create what I had in mind with the tools they had. What I learned about myself is that I can achieve something even though it's hard for me at first. That I can overcome it. If I was able to do this project again I wouldn’t do anything different.

Q1 Project: Website Design

On my website you are going to see some part of life. I was to make a website to showcase myself. There is five pages. The home page, About me page, Resume page, My work page, and the contact page. My goals was to finish the website and show a part of life that I feel that is interesting.

The process of completing my website was first by looking for a website builder. Next picking a theme and thinking of what I want to showcase about myself. Then I had to step up the website the way I like it. It was difficult because I had to play around with the website and decide what fit best to my liking. Finally I had picked what theme I like and I started to type in.

I had some trouble competing this website because every time I would do something on the website it would delete and the reason for that was because I didn’t save it every time I did something new.I didn’t realize that I had to save.

What I actually ended up learning while completing this project was that it’s hard creating a website and coming up with ideas of what to say. It’s takes a while to be sacrificed with your website. I ended up changing things over and over because I didn’t like it. I feel like I really didn't learn anything new about myself but I learned how to make a website.

If I were to do this project over again I would add more things and change the theme, make it a little more interesting to the viewers.

If you were to get to do this project make it interesting and bright.

For this project my message is dedicated to my medium.

Oral History Interview ( Ms. Rosa Nixon) By Ivana Gutierrez

Posted by Ivana Gutierrez in AFRICAN AM HISTORY - Roy - X on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 10:00 pm

Abstract,

In this interview my interviewee is talking about her being happy graduating from high school when she was younger. I ask her if she could tell me how is it different from back in the day from today. She said lived in a African American community. How her house was when she was younger. She talks about her not going to a segregated school. I ask her if she was ever discriminated About her race or skin color but she couldn't remember. I also asked if she had white friends but she didn't. And my last question I asked was why she came to Philadelphia from North Carolina and she said because there was more jobs in the north than the south.

Research

The topic I choose is when Mrs.Nixon migrated from North Carolina to Pennsylvania. She migrated in 1966, she was 23. The Great Migration is when more than 6 million African Americans relocated from the rural South to the cities of the north. From 1916 through 1970 it had a huge impact on urban life in the united States. Driven from their homes by bad economic opportunities and harsh segregationist laws, many African Americans headed north, where they took advantage of the need for industrial workers that first arose during the First World War.During the Great Migration, African Americans began to build a new place for themselves in public life, actively confronting economic, political and social challenges and creating a new black urban culture that would exert enormous influence in the decades to come. Shortly after the Civil War, large numbers of newly freed men and women left the plantations where they had served as slaves and moved to new areas, but most remained primarily in the South. In the south they had driven in a part of economic concerns. Many african americans didn’t have jobs and they were having a poor living condition, so that lead them to move to the North but they needed help to get there. Also the south was losing people and they were probably losing money. (b) In the North many african americans were looking for jobs because they heard they had more jobs than the south. Many of them were still in poor living condition because they still had a low fare waged.

What’s your earliest childhood memory?

“My earliest childhood memory was like 5 or 6 and I was at NC and it was a tornado on the highway so like my mom was like driving and then all of sudden it seemed like the tornado was coming towards us but it really wasn’t so but I really didn’t know what was going on so then my mom started to backing up down the highway like really really really fast and but I ain’t know what was going on all I know is that it was thundering, raining everything was blowing everywhere. So  that was my earliest childhood memory”

Who’s your biggest influence in your life?

“ okay um my biggest influence is my mom because um when she was younger she did a lot of um bad things and then as I grew up she told me to stay in the right path and not to do anything wrong because... because I won't get anywhere in life. Even though sometimes she makes wrong decisions. I do follow after her too so I really look up to her."

Where do you picture yourself in ten years?

"Okay, I picture myself in ten years as um a salon owner because when I get older I really wanna own hair salon and everything and I picture myself you know working in a salon whatever and you know doing whatever when I get older."

What is your best childhood memory? “ My best childhood memory.. Let’s see… My best childhood memory is going with my father to the university of Pennsylvania museum that is located in Philadelphia and.. and he leaving my sister, brother and I in the mummy area um where it was really dark and trying to scare us, but why it’s a special memory to me is because my father was a police officer and he didn’t take us many places, we usually we went with my mom. So to go with him somewhere alone and you know or to go with him anywhere was very cool. So and I think that’s where I get my love for museums, for being scared at the museums by the mummy’s.”

Ivana- Oh, That’s cool, cool, cool.  So um my second question is

Did you always wanted to be a teacher? “No, when I was growing up, well not even growing up. I went through a lot of things when I was growing up. but when I got to be a teenager I wanted to go to college I wanted to be a Biomedical engineer, I went to school for that and realized that my drafting class, that I couldn’t uh actually visual see in 3D or to draw it so I knew that at the point I was not going to be an engineer, and then I went back to school to become a history professor in college so I think that started me wanting to be a teacher at the point. then I was able to home school my youngest, who had some speech problems and I realized then that I really like teaching, by homeschooling him.”

Ivana- That’s really cool. So my last question is

What made you choose SLA@Beeber? “I must say I did not realize that SLA Beeber was even in my neighborhood but I requested um through my school to find a school that I can walk too and I was told that SLA Beeber was here and they were taking uh student teachers and it worked out.

Tips for Teenagers

By: Amani, Darian, Daina, Ivana, Amna.

Based on the I-Search papers that we completed on teenage development, here are some tips for teenagers to help them be happier and to help them develop in positive ways.

  1. A tip I can give would be that teens or children never should blame themselves for their parents divorce.

  2. A tip I can give is think about your behaviour before you complain about you parents’ choices of disciplining.

  3. A tip I could give to a child or teenager It’s best to listen to your mother and father because they can lead and guide you to a better understanding of the world point of view because their is many people today that don’t understand how the world really works and they are still trying to find out at the old age which could be a problem for them and others that would need help from them.

  4. tA helpful tip is, stay away from drugs and alcohol no matter who around you does it.

  5. A tip I would give to teens is that you don’t have to shroud your true potential to fulfill the stereotypes of that in which the world has broadcasted on television. You can be better than the stereotypes and propaganda that adults and society has created for you.

The reason why i choose How to survive 9th grade is because i want to let other kids know what to do when they are in their first year of high school and also what not to do, so they can get through it easy.

The reason why we have pick out the sculpture we had made which was the “ Android” was because we thought it would be cool to do a thing that looks like a robot and we also decide to make it out of clay because we wanted it to be easy to make. We choose to make the “android” also because we both have android phone. #TEAMANDROID

What our sculpture says about us is that we both have android phones. Android phones help us out.

A picture is worth a thousand words!

The reason i choose this image is because it shows how the boy is scared and afraid of what those bullies are saying. I can see that he is hurt by the way he is sitting in the corner and as the screen is getting closer to him. He is probably thinking of killing himself. What i am trying to say is people like him feel that way because of the bullies that are out there. My words would be cyberbullying hurts and kills people.
