Reproductive Health Care

Posted by Haniah Jones in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 7:19 am

The reason why I wanted to research reproductive health and create a PSA about it is because I feel that the topic is extremely overlooked by society. Reproductive health goes much deeper than just sex and pregnancies, it’s also about educating the adolescents. Our interviews played such a huge role in proving our point of teens not really understanding what reproductive health is, they just had a slight idea. And this is part of the issue that my group members and I want to bring to the light. If we want our teens and young adults to stay healthy, we have to teach them how to. The first way i helped contribute to my group was firstly by picking the topic. For about half of the first project day, we couldn’t decide on what to do. So we wanted to be different yet still be interesting and innovative. Other than helping creative the interview questions and the script, i think that I was the creative person providing many different ideas on how to present our PSA. Lastly, I would say that I was the motivation for my group members. I was the one who initiated our project work time during class and outside of class.

Something that we did well on was gaining knowledge on our topic and fully understanding the problems with reproductive health. Majority of our project work time all we did was research, research, and more research. This is because this topic is so broad so there are many things that fall into this category. So honestly we were just trying to take it all in. This happens to be a good thing and a bad thing because while we spent so many days researching, it took away from the days of us getting started on our scripts and interviews. So this is one thing I would do differently next time. The most meaningful part of this project for me would be not only educating myself on this topic but others. When I read about all the negative statistics staggered against African Americans, it truly upset me. However even though it upset me, it also gave me motivation to want to spread the word to my peers.

Haniah Jones and Amani Sheard Capstone Project

Posted by Haniah Jones in Senior Capstone · Turoff · ILP/TFI/CAP on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:42 pm
Final capstone
As seniors in high school, we have never experienced homelessness or having to live in a shelter. But what about the hundreds of teens that have? We (Haniah Jones and Amani Sheard) are going to step into the shoes of others by visiting YTC youth shelter while documenting and analyzing the experience. We seek to help change the community and go beyond what we know. Not only will this open up a new perspective on ourselves and others once we share, but we plan to promote and emphasize a youth center that could be beneficial to many. A challenge that we initially anticipated had to do with the fact that we have never been in a shelter. And neither of us have ever interacted with teens who have faced emotional hardships. So thinking of how to approach them without offending them would be difficult. The whole point of this senior capstone project is to create something memorable and useful to our community. What better way to do so by tackling an issue in our community directly. At first, we wanted to just simply volunteer at the shelter, but decided that we needed something better to base a whole senior project on. Therefore, we thought that stepping into the shoes of someone else would not only help us appreciate what we have but then see for ourselves what this program is about and then volunteer afterward. Another goal of this project is to indulge in the lives of someone else to then deeper understand them as people in hopes to end youth homelessness and learn to appreciate what we have in the process. Lastly, to help promote and enforce the goals of the YTC program to those who need it.

CNS Benchmark By: Haniah Jones

Reflection: After completing this project, I can honestly say that I learned a lot outside of just what Ms. Aziz taught us. I obviously learned about comas and how they are triggered and what's happening in the CNS. But I also came across some new terminology that I have never heard of before. For example  inhibitory versus excitatory  I am sad to say that there is still no cure for comas and that neurologists still don't know how to break them.

For this project we had to create our own traveling agency. Once we decided on our traveling agency, we had to pick a Spanish Speaking Vacation Place and create a package for a couple to travel to. We created a package of 5, 7, or 9 days for them to choose. In each package we had to make a set itinerary for the full day. That included, breakfast, site seeing, night activities and dinner. We also has to book flights and hotels for their stay. Once all those details we planned out in FULL Spanish. In addition to that, we were assigned to create a commercial to sell our vacation package. And on top of all that, we had to present all of our information in Spanish to the class and Senorita Moran.
I think this project was one of the most intricate projects so far. It was challenging because we had to do our ENTIRE presentation in full Spanish. Even though it was a challenging project overall, I really enjoyed doing it. However we did face some obstacles with some of our group members not contributing as much as the rest of us. That also reflected in our presentations.

Poet: Ruben Dario

Poem: Lo Fatal

Ruben Dario’s Vida Éxitos

Rubén Darío nació el decimoctavo de enero de decimoctavo sesenta y siete en  León, Nicaragua. Él introdujo español-americanos a modernismo.

He viajado a cuatro diferentes estados.

¡y no saber adónde vamos,

The purpose of this project was to research a famous poet and learn about his life and the background influences of some of their poetry. We were to write a biography of the poet, pick your favorite poem, then write our thought and reactions to the poem. After those steps are done, you pull out major themes from the original poem and create your own version of it.
I think my grade reflects my work ethic but at the same time, if my ability to translate English to Spanish was a little stronger, I could have possibly gotten a higher score. I followed all the guidelines because I was sure to include all 5 sections. I think what impacted my grade the most was the biography about the poet and my own remix of the poem. The biggest factor that overcame was time management and fully committing myself to this project. An obstacle that I faced was trying to do the original poem justice. The original poem was so powerful so I felt as though it was my duty write a strong poem. My biggest resource that was useful to me was when we did the in class group assignment. I thought it was resourceful to a draft in class together so we can get an idea as to how we should go about comprehending the poem and pulling out important themes. What I need to continue to work on to better my project performances is strengthening writing sentences in spanish. For this project specifically, I learned not to wait until the last minute since Ms. Moran wasn’t going to be here due to her Costa Rica trip. I was important for me to ask all of my questions before she left. My advice for my future self would be practice with another poem similarly to what we did in class. I thought doing that activity really helped me think about what I should consider when pulling things out from the original poem.

The Spanish News Report was a project of 6 people and you had to create a series of news segments on a city of your choice. In this news segment you must have 2 anchors, a weatherman, a health segment, and a braking news segment, similar to a real news broadcast. My group consisted of Aaliyah Ellerbee, Madeline Kelly, Jordan Lewis, Andre Thomas, and Wesley White. We first wrote out a realistic script in English then with the help of Ms. Moran we then translated it to Spanish. Once it was fully translated, we got dressed up to fit the role of a news reporter, created a few props then filmed. With our hard work, we were able to receive an A on this project.

Katelynn Jasmine Vessels was born on September 18, 1998 and died July, 27, 2015. Katelynn was my best friend, my other half, my girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, husband. She’s my sister, not by blood but by soul; half of my heart and everything in between. Katelynn was the epitome of a fighter. If you went up to her and had a simple conversation with her, you would never think anything negatively about her life at home. She went through the saddest things but never let that affect the people who made her happy. What made her even more special is that she wasn’t one to complain. She constantly had people on her back, she constantly had people bringing her down and judging her. Telling her how to run her life. Even still she never let it stop her from living her life. Now that I look back, I feel awful for all the things that I would talk to her about because I feel like I sounded ungrateful. The things I thought I was going through couldn’t compare even the slightest to what she went through. Things got worse for her when she found out she was pregnant only at age 16. Of course finding out a loved one is pregnant at such a young age is disappointing to hear, however I made it my priority to make sure that I supported her because that was something that she needed the most. She carried the baby for about 6 months until a tragedy happened which caused her to lose baby Adrienne on June 3, 2015. Her reaction to the death of her baby was devastating. Katelynn was in the hospital for about 3 weeks then was instructed to go to a depression center to make sure she was taking care of herself physically and mentally. During these situations, a child wants their mother there the most, no matter what kind of relationship you may have, you always want your mom right there by your side. And she didn’t have that. Watching her go through that breaks my heart everyday. It was so important that I returned all the favors she's done for me. When a person doesn’t understand why things are happening, they start to blame it all on themselves. And that’s exactly what she did. She blamed herself for why her father left, she blamed herself for why she thought her mother hated her, she blamed herself for why her boyfriend of 3 years hadn’t visit her the entire 2 months of her being in the hospital, and lastly she blamed herself for the lost of her child. Her exact words were “I refuse to continue living my life in this terrible way.” At that moment, she became a person who I was unfamiliar with. To me, those were just words of her grieving. But to her, those were the words that made her decide to take her own life just a few days later.

When she was alive, I would always tell her that I didn’t know what I’d do without her and now that she’s gone, I really don’t know how i’m doing it. I guess it’s because I don’t have any other choice. I can’t say that it has been easy learning to live without her. I’ve come to the understanding that when I go to her house, it won’t ever be her who opens the door, or when I call her phone number, it’ll still just be her voicemail. I decided to create my sugar skull in remembrance of her because what I have learned is that Dia de los Muertos is for celebrating a person’s life not dwelling on the fact that they passed. I feel as though she deserves to be celebrated because I know that’s something she would do. She was such a joyful person, she would want me to remember her as an inspiration and i’m trying my hardest to keep that in mind. I truly want all of my words that I used to describe her to give off nothing but good vibes to people. And in the end, that’s really all I want for her, is for people to accept and respect her. I made my sugar skull to reflect Katelynn by painting the entire thing yellow. I chose yellow not because it was her favorite color but because yellow represents happiness and like I mentioned before that was an instant vibe that you got from her. I also chose to include red as a representation of strength. And lastly, I put glitter over the yellow for a super special reason. I think the glitter represents a covering for what’s on the bottom. If you think about it, when someone shows you something sparkly, you don’t think to ask what’s under it; all you see is that it’s sparkling and you like it. Katelynn put “glitter” on herself so that all you see is something pretty, she didn’t want people to know what’s really under it. She hated when people felt bad for her. She just wanted people to see her as your typically happy teenage girl.

Dia de los Muertos has opened up my mind to celebrating the passed loved ones because all the people whose deaths we care about i’m sure just want us to be happy. And this holiday isn’t about being sad. It’s about remembering all the good times that you have shared with that person. You think about how much joy you guys brought to each other. When someone you love and care about passes away, there is a strong temptation to remember them. Misdeeds are forgotten, offenses are forgiven. The hardest part of her passing is that I don’t feel like I told her I loved her enough. I use to blame myself and say “well maybe if i said it once more, that’s another day she’d be here” And I’d give anything to turn back time to do so. People say all great minds think alike. But I like to say all great hearts share a bond. And at the end of the day, she may be gone but our connection will remain unbroken.

Oral History Project: James Jones jr. By: Haniah Jones

Posted by Haniah Jones in AFRICAN AM HISTORY - Roy - X on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 11:39 pm

Abstract:

On In my interview with my great uncle and former Marine James Jones jr, we first discussed his life in the Marines and what his experiences were with racism and segregation. He briefly talked about his childhood life living in New York City and Philadelphia and how it differed when traveling between the North and South. As an African American male he was definitely put to the test as he faced physical and mental hardships by whites. Towards the end of the interview I was pleased to hear that our views on race in America today, and our views on how African American children today take opportunities for granted were so similar.

Research:

When condoning my own research about segregation and inequality for blacks in the North and South, I found that my uncles interpretation about how life was for blacks was pretty accurate. There was no such thing as land of the free even though slavery had ended. Even though blacks didn’t necessarily have physical shackles and chains around their ankles and necks, but they did have on mental chains and shackles. Racial Inequality took place of slavery. Even after the Civil War the inequality between races continued in the South but they tried to cover it up with this whole idea about being separate but equal. There were even laws made known as Jim Crow Laws, which made it obligatory for things like schools, hospitals, restaurants and public transport to be racially segregated, or which banned marriages between people of different races. As the years have gone by since then, it seems as if things have died down but now with fresh cases like the Brown case and the Trayvon Martin case both sides are starting to get rowed up again.

Me: Hi, my name is Haniah Jones Today is May 8 2015 at 5:13 pm, and I am here with my great uncle and former Marine James Jones. Why don’t you start off by telling me what countries you served in as a Marine.

James: Uuh, Italy, and uh the states, and I went to Germany and uh, I’ve been to Pakistan, Vietnam, uh Neoplen. Theres also lots of countries, Like ive been to morocco, and um...I’m thinking if I missed anything (mumbles to self) Yea I don’t think I missed any.

Me: Ok, um how would you define race and discrimination

James: How would I define race and discrimination?

Me: Mmhm

James: In relationship to what

Me: Like just umm, like i guess just with with the things that you’ve experienced, or what you know uh personally

James: Ok, that’s an easy one. Um, race became an issue when i first went into the service, just being from the North, you know Philadelphia and New York. I really didn’t um come into problems until I went into the military and I was stationed down south. And then when I was stationed down south, places you would go, you would see signs that said you know “White” and “colored” um and a there were places you couldn’t go because of your color

Me: right

James: You could go, you know, you couldn’t go to the movies. Uhh, you couldn’t go to certain um stores. You couldn’t go to certain drive in’s. And there were always signs that said white and colored. You couldn’t even go to the bus station. Uh, when you went to buy your ticket, they sold tickets on one side for colored and on the other side for white folks.

Me: right

James: You couldn’t go into the, the uh, cafeteria that they had in the uh bus station to buy a sandwich or something, you couldn’t do that! And discrimination, they’re just certain places that you couldn’t go, or you didn’t go or they wouldn’t allow you to go in. Like when I was stationed in (cough cough) excuse me. When I ?was stationed in Germany, there were clubs and bars that you couldn’t go in because uh, the white service people didn’t want you in their bars. It wasn’t necessarily the German people, it was American GI’s that didn’t want you in their clubs. So they wouldn’t let you in so they had bars for you know GI’s that were colored and white GI’s. And you know you could go into the different clubs. And discrimination is basically when theyre were places that you could and couldn’t go and it was all based on the color of your skin.

Me: Right ok um,

James: Ok?

Me: Mmhm, so, what made you join the Marines?

James:Um (laughs) you’re gonna laugh at this but I fell in love with John Wayne ok?

Me: Mhm

James: And I had saw some movies that he played in and he was a marine. And uh, I wanted to travel, I knew that Marines traveled quite a bit and I liked their dressful uniform.

Me: (laughs) Ummm. do you ever wish you could be um, when you were stationed in the marines, do you ever wish you could another race so that your life could be easier

James: No. I’ve always wanted to be me. I didn’t want to be somebody else just to get by. I got by being me. Um, I was fortunate in that I was respected being me. I didn’t have to pretend to be somebody else I was just me and I was respected by that.

Me: So other than the signs, you never had like any physical altercations with like white

James: With race

Me: Yea with like..

James: Yea mhm mhm. Uhh I had a guy that I was stationed with and the 3 of us, there were 3 marines. We were selected to go some place for special duties. And there were 2 white marines and me. And one of the white marines uh, where we went um there were only one of the individual rooms but it was a tourist unit. And they only had 2 rooms. 2 of us had to room together. And since we were all corpses at the time and uh the senior corper, we were gonna let him have the room by himself but this one guy went up to this other guy and he said he didn’t want to sleep in the room with me. and he asked the other guy would he mind sleeping in the room with him. And uh he said no he didn’t have a problem with that. And he told me what the guy had said and I said it ain’t no big deal, I knew he was like that um so I, didn’t sleep in the room with him, he didn’t sleep in the room with me. That’s one incident that happened. But yea there were people in the military who didn’t like me because I was black and I understood that because of where they were from and how they were brought up. My biggest problem though when I was in uh when I was in bootcamp niah, um and that was in south Carolina and this was way back and I was, I was 17 years old which was 1954. And uh, there were a lot of guys in boot camp with me who were from the South and there were only 5 black guys in my, in my particular boot camp. And 4 were from Philadelphia, the other guy was from Buffalo New York. And uh when we got to boot camp, our drill instructor he said he was not going to tolerate anything about race, if he heard anything, anybody say anything about race, they were getting kicked out. Um so even though people wanted to say things and do things they didn’t do it because they knew they would get caught.

Me: Yea that’s good

James: Ok

Me: Um, was your, so did, when you were younger like was your educational experiences like similar to your marine experiences? Like in school was it the same way or was it different?

James: Um, no my school friends were the same. I went to school in, I went to Catholic school in New York. And I went to an all black catholic school from Kindergarten to 8th grade. Ok?

Me: Mhmm

James: All of the nun, all of my teachers were white, I had no black teachers. And in my first year of high school was also in New York. And uuh, it was funny becaue I went to highschool that I went to in my first year was an attic of another high school which was very popular but you had to take a test to get into that school. And a lot of people wanted to get into that school that I wanted to go to. So we had 3 annexes in the city that you went to your freshmen year. And I went to one of the annexes, St.  Thomas my first year. And uh I noticed something funny, I never realized there was so many different types of black folks. OK, and what im saying is that in my class, i  had black puerto ricans, i had a couple cubans, i had a couple people from the west indies, i had a couple guys who came from across the big sea, the big river, uh, north africa, and uh…let me see if i missed anybody. I don’t think i missed anybody.

Me: Are you familiar with the stories of, of um, the Lunch counter sit-ins, the murder of Emmett Till

James: Yes

Me: So when you hear about those like wha-what emotions go through your mind, how do you feel?

James: It’s-it’s funny that you ask me that. When I was stationed in Italy, I was in Italy when Emmett till was killed. The duty that I pulled in Italy, we pulled a duty of 2 Marines in Italian Cabinary.  The Cabinary is a officer of Italy. One night we were on duty, me and anither Marine, the other marine on duty was a white Marine who, we fought in Italy together. He was from uh, Washington D.C. We were on duty until like 2 or 3 o clock in the morning, you know we were just in the building. So we were just talking like we do a lot. and this cabinary he had a  little um folder a little bag that they wore on their side. And in the bag he pulled out this paper. And he unfolded the paper and it was a picture of Emmett Till of course the paper work was in Italian. And he asked me how I could serve in the military for a country that did something like this. ok? So I was 18 or 19 at the time and obviously I couldn’t explain it to him like I could now, how I could do that. So basically what I said to him was everybody wasn’t like that. Ok, yea it was wrong, i definitely don’t like to see stuff like that. but it’s nothing i can do to change it.

Me: Um let’s see did you ever like when you went back home, did you ever i guess fear the life of you know your siblings that just for the simple fact that they were black, they could be killed at any time like did that ever like cross your mind like at all.

James: That something could happen to them?

Me: Yes, just for the simple fact that they were black during a time like this.

James: Yes it did, um not so much the girls ok, but my cousins and stuff like that the boys, the males. The policemen right there in Philadelphia were uh, very racist, even the black policemen. And they treated black males differently. I got hit a couple times by Philadelphia policemen. I got arrested a couple times by Philadelphia policemen for doing nothing. For just being, as the expression goes, “for just being black”

Me: Do you believe that children in today’s society, today’s century take the opportunities that they have now for granted?

James: Yes, yes I get upset sometimes when I realize that the opportunities that you guys have and the opportunities that were not available for people say my age way back when. That, that that bothers me that the young folks today don’t take advantage of the opportunities but it’s not everybody but I would say most of them don’t take advantage of the opportunities.

Me: Yea, your nephew here is a perfect example (laughs)

James: Yea, I was getting ready to say that, I was getting ready to say that. And its a shame. And yes, your brother is one that uh, I was so glad when I heard that he was going to drexel and all that. But while he’s in school up to this point, he still not taking all the advantages that’s available today based on his ability to do the things he can do. You know what i’m saying?

Me: Yup, sure do.

James: Ok but yes that was a good question, I liked that question

Me: Yea I, I personally, that’s why I asked the question because I know that children today, in today’s society are so disrespectful and do not take advantage of opportunities given to them now. And I just wanted to make sure that like I wasn’t the only person that felt that way.

James: No, you're definitely not the only person niah, you’re definitely not the only person. I mean I feel stron-, very strongly about that. I mean I see kids now and young folks you know who I know that aren’t taking advantage of the things they’re available to, and it hurts me to see that because the advantages weren’t there before. but they’re there now, there is no excuse now, none whatsoever.

Me:Um, this is just a follow up question, do you think like the things that are happening now like the Brown case and Trayvon Martin case, do you think this is a repeat of what’s been happening in the 1950’s?

James: Uuh...yes! Things have never really gone away. This is my personal feeling now. Things have never really gone away, you know they changed some and they’ve gotten better but things aren’t really gone away as even though its not as open as it was before

Me: Mhm

James: You know, its still there.

Me: What do you think it will take for, or do you ever think that there will truly be no racism like ever if at all

James: No, no, I won’t live to see it, you won’t live to see, your children won’t live to see it. I think it will always be there

Me: Sad to here but, I agree

James: (laughs) ok (coughs)

Me: Well thanks for sharing your stories with me

James: No problem, anytime. I have nothing else to do but share stories

Interview with Ms. Sara Landman

If you could change one thing that has happened in the past, what would it be and why?

“If I can change anything from the past, I would've stood up for myself more.  Sometimes I think back to peers, colleagues, teachers who have put me down, and I wish I could have used my voice to stand up for myself to speak my mind, respectfully of course.”

Follow up: Did you have a reason for not sticking up for yourself or were you just uncomfortable with doing so?

“I didn’t discover my voice until later, I wasn’t as confident as I am now. I was always a shy kid.”

Who has been your biggest influence in your life?

“I know it's cliche, but the biggest influences in my life have been my parents.  They have taught me how to work hard, be kind/giving, and treat people the way I want to be treated.”

What is something that you've experienced that defined who you are as a person?

“Growing up in my school in Blue Bell, I was one of the only Jewish Students.  It made you very unique among my friends, and made me very proud to be Jewish as my friends really respected my practices and thought it was really cool that I so many rituals that were different than theirs.  From then on I was very proud to follow my convictions and never felt like I had to be a follower.”

Tips for Teens By: Haniah Jones, Tyrone Hart, Jamire Griffin, Nacere James

Based on the I-Search papers that we completed on teenage development, here are some tips for teenagers to help them be happier and to help them develop in positive ways.

    1. Learn how to communicate with your parents. Let them know what you’re thinking, and how you’re feeling in the most respectful way.

    2. Yelling and screaming is useless and causes mental problems, if your going to punish your teen, do it in a calm manner.

    3. If you’re in a bad environment try to seek help to get out, so you won’t end up hurt or worse.

    4. Try to find hobbies that interest you and keep you out of trouble. Especially when people start to get you mad. Always being angry and violent as a teen can affect the way you handle yourself as an adult.

Teenage Pregnancies By: Haniah Jones

I chose to discuss teenage pregnancies because it seems to be an issue in this century. And I think that if people really put more time and consideration into the problem, it can be prevented. Also, as a teenager myself, it's important to me not to get pregnant at such young age. And I can also spread the word on to my friends that I care about to protect themselves.

Our partnership chose to make a replica of the Science Leadership Academy@Beeber building. Not only is it a great school, it’s where we will be building our futures. So we wanted to represent something important in our lives. In doing this project, it took time, energy, and dedication to create a pretty decent and sturdy model.

A Picture Is worth 1000 words By: Haniah Jones

This picture connects to me because i don’t like when people are bullied, or when people are bullies. My 5 words are :people believe what you tell them” because this girl has been told that she was overweight and people are negatively influencing her to believe what they want her to believe. In tech class bullying and cyber bullying was one of our discussions.

Group 6; Haniah, Maddi, Mukhtar, Dan and Salina Express Yourself video blog post

Posted by Haniah Jones in ENGLISH 1 - Zeller - A on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 10:40 am
The motivation and inspiration for the development of our video was mainly to show the audience that being different is no reason why people can’t be friends. And the video clearly shows that we are all different. We all have different places we want to be in the future, different jobs, careers, religions, environments, and families, but what we do have in common is a common goal to get somewhere in life and be successful. In the video, it was noted that our society is the biggest influence as to how people are treated because of their differences. But at Science Leadership Academy, the diversity is the most important, this school is teaching us that yes we are different, but if you actually take the time out to realize that we have something in common then our society would be a better place as a whole. Working together on this project was difficult only because we didn't know how to merge our similarities and differences into one good product, but it was done, and I think it was done pretty well. The last thing is that, I think the process was the most effective than the actual product because the reasoning behind each picture is a powerful message, even down to the songs that were put in it. What inspired our We video group project, was our differences. And that should be what anyone learns in life, and what brings anyone together. So what the people/audience should learn from this video is that we may be different, but some of those differences can bring us together as friends, family, acquaintances and classmates.
Haniah: We express ourselves based on our personality, mood, or our interests and hobbies. Because I think that our parents like to dictate everything we do, I think that kids have a hard time finding ways to express what they are feeling or what they like. Another thing is that people sometimes are feeling a certain way and they don’t know how to release it, so they choose to do it in not the best way. So its important that you find a way to do so. Rather it's music, art, the way you dress, any kind of activity that doesn't cause harm to others. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that, there is always someone out there who could have the smallest similarity with you, and just like that, you have could have some connection. I firmly believe that in my video I displayed a good complexity of who i am, and the ways that I express myself. When people watch I my video, I don’t want them to remember me as just that black Muslim girl. But also want them to remember me as that black Muslim girl who wants to go to Stanford University, or who wants to be an Obstetrician, and the girl who loves food, and her family. The biggest thing that I learned is that yes, even though it's wrong that people judge you, its going to happen regardless. But ultimately, you can’t let the negatively be apart of who you are as a person. You need to find something that hasn't been influenced by someone else negatively and make it a part of who you are, just make sure it truly makes you happy.

Salina:There are many reasons why we express ourselves. For example We express ourselves so that people can know who we are. Not only just that, but also so people can know what I am about. Furthermore, what My interests are and what I pride myself in. In the end, I express myself because I feel as though If I don’t then people won’t know the real me.

Throughout this video, we will have expressed the complexity of ourselves in this videos in a few ways. For instance, we have put our interests in this video. Such as poetry, art, shopping, “selfies” and etc. We also shared our family and friends, some new and old. Furthermore, we put all of are religions which based around Christianity and Islam. In conclusion, these things are what we felt that we needed to share so that people could have a better understanding of who we are and how we are all friends.

I feel like I have learned many things while completing this project. The reason I say this is because there were many things that I didn't know about my friend. For example, Maddi was Christian. I didn't even think that Maddi had a religion because she never talked about it until we all discussed it. Also, I never knew that Mukhtar was an artist, so doing this project let me get to know my friends even better!

Mukhtar: When I first came to this school I only knew a few people, mainly people from my soccer team, students in my advisory, and two classmates I went to elementary and middle school with. I was glad to see that in my advisory I had an old friend from elementary school and I was glad to see her because I had so much to catch up on, with her and tell her how life was at my old school when she left. I was also glad to see another classmate who I knew would be at the same school, but I wasn't sure if we would be in the same classes, I was glad to have multiple classes with her including english where we sit at the same table, and her name was Haniah Jones. From then on their I met the other students at the group table, I would go to school with, for the rest of my four years at SLA, those students were, Daniel/Dan, Maddi, and Salina. We may have, have different personalities but, we still came together as friends/classmates at school. So what inspired me to do this  we video group project, was our differences, we all have different places we want to be in the future, different jobs, careers, religions, environments, and families, but what we do have in common is a common goal to get somewhere in life and be successful. It doesn't matter what age you are, you could still have goals in life, big dreams about things that you want to do. We are all humans no matter what, and it is basic human characteristics to believe in yourself, and your own self goals. That's what really inspired me about this video, is being dreamers, believers, that we could become anything we want. And since we all believe that, and have goals in life, thats what brings us all together.

What people should know about the video to fully understand it is: We may be different, whether racial, background environments, language and our interest in life. Some of those differences can bring us together as friends, family, acquaintances and classmates. And that should be what anyone learns in life, and what brings anybody together in this world .

What I have learn from this project: From this project I learned that there are things that I didn't even know about my group classmates, but as I asked questions, and wondered why, I found out things about them that I didn't think they would be interested in doing in life. You find out things about people, by going through trials to know who they are.

Artist Statement

In showing my video I hope to show people my video I hope to show that I have always been the happy goofy person I still am today. As you can see in my baby pictures, especially the one with pudding all over my face you can see my silly behavior. Growing up and still to this day I don’t want to be or ever become a negative person. When I was little a lot of time was spent at the beach, like the picture of me playing with the sand and at my grandmothers house. I love my grandmother will all my heart and still to this day look up to how amazing and strong she is. Mama is her name and when i was small she watched my brother and I everyday.

After being that smiley happy little girl, my life changed forever when my parents divorced. To be completely honest I would consider myself a “daddy’s girl” and not having him there with me was very sad. On top of losing him we stopped seeing my grandmother so much because we didn't see our dad all the time and she moved. Living without my dad was hard, but living with my mother was even harder. If I had to guess, I’d say something broke inside her the day they got into that big fight. She became so evil and she never changed, she never will.

In present time I live with my dad and my stepmom and I’m really happy where I am today. I have a wonderful baby brother whom I adore and love seeing his face everyday. Madeline Kelly is a happy person who really enjoys making people laugh, acting like a kid and hanging out with friends and family. I love who I am and what makes me who I am. I’m proud to be me.

Dan

In my artist statement i want to express myself my showing the person that I am I can do this by showing the audience my interest ,hobbies , and games I play enjoy all of these because it connects me to my friends. I feel that me playing with my friends can from a connection with them and make us bond together, another interest that i have is playing sports  this also makes me express myself by showing people what i can do and how much i enjoy it for example when i first started playing football i thought I would be bad at it but after i made bonds with my teammates and made me feel comfortable with them and this overall made me better at the game. The last major interest that i have is comics i feel that this is one of my favorite hobbies because every since i was little i always had a love for superheroes and their powers the fact that someone can run faster than the speed of sound or lift up millions of pounds is amazing to me and I always wanted to be like them to conclude my artist statement i wanna say that what we have interest in can make us who we are
