Cell Phone Use Project

The purpose of this project was to find out how much people use their phones on the daily basis. The details and information that I found was that people use snapchat and instagram more so then any other apps or just play games. The tips that I have for people that over use their phone is turning off your phone when your not using it and also putting it away meaning in your pocket or book bag.

Multi-tasking and Cellphone Use Project

In this assignment I had to track how often I turned my phone on and off throughout two days. My class also had to track this data and insert their information into a Spreadsheet document. I had to calculate the data, the averages of my class, the least and greatest numbers, and create charts. The goal of this project was to see how often I used my cell phone, how often my class uses their cell phones, how we multitask during important work, what applications we use the most, and how the data of my cell phone use and my class’ cell phone use compared.
In conclusion, I believe that cellphone addiction and constant multitasking is a situation in today’s society. I learned, through my observations, that the students in SLA Beeber spend a lot of time using their phones and multitasking while completing their work. I have also learned how often I use my phone, along with how it compares to my classmates and other students at SLA. I learned through my research, that cellphone addiction causes us to look at our phones while talking to people, the first thing you do when you get somewhere is charge our phones, we fall asleep holding our smartphones, we check our phones first thing in the morning, our phone bills are huge, and we feel anxious when your phone is not with us. I also learned through my research that multitasking actually makes our work less successful and we work very slowly. We are actually switch-tasking and going back and forth between the two assignments. We are not actually completing them at the same time.
Some recommendations I have for my classmates and even myself, is that we should focus more on our school work, instead of multitasking so often. Some tips I have found from research online to assist us with limiting our cell phone use include: For the first 30 minutes of the day we shouldn't go on our phones, we should create “no-phone time zones”, turn off our phones when we get in the car, live more in the moment and reality, and try not to lose sleep over our phones.
Here is my spreadsheet for the Cellphone Use Project. I collected my data by using the app Checky, which told me how often I turned my phone on, and the app Moment, which told me how many hours I spent on my phone everyday. I also used the spreadsheet, which told me the data of the other students in my class.

Cell Phone Use Project

This project is about how many times does a person use their phone and what causes them to do it. My goal is to know why does this happen to people and how many times does a person use their phones every day. Since the average number for a person in 9th grade to use their phone is 73, people are addicted to their phones because researchers say that this is caused by “Dopamine”. Based on the data, the majority of the students mostly use YouTube due to the entertainment of videos.

Cell Phone Use Project

In this project my class tracked how many times they checked their phone over a period of two days using a cell phone app. After that we summit our data into a spreadsheet with is in this link FINAL Cell Phone Use data - Google Sheets. We did this to see how our data connected to cell phone addiction and multitasking. Our data showed we are very addicted to our phone and kids try to learn while being on their phone. I suggest that kids put their phone down and pay more attention to their surroundings.

Cell Phone Use Project

The purpose of this project is to show how much freshmen use their phones. Then compare and contrast the data to come to a conclusion. The conclusion I came to is that freshmen use their phones too much for multitasking, and I feel as if some of us could cut back on how much they use their phone. The app I used to record my data is called "Moment". Click Here to see the data.

Cell Phone Use Project

1) The purpose of the slides will show the data of cell phone use and it will show the problem with cell phone addiction.
2)In conclusion most people go on their phones for social media or entertainment.
3) Turn off your phone when your in class. Don't use your phone during dinner. Don't use it in the morning.
4) Cell Phone use Data Link This link shows us the data was collected by using a tracker that kept track of how many times you used your phone.

My Washcloth

Learning how to crochet was probably one of the hardest things I had to learn to do. However, with the help of friends and family, I was able to pick it up really fast and actually enjoy what I am creating when doing it. When making my wash cloth, I wanted to do something different by transitioning from single to double then single again. I learned that it's obviously not a good idea to do that since it made the wash cloth begin to shrink.

Artist Statement

When you first look at my art work you see a man with a colorful sweater on talking into a mic , He is Russell Westbrook The reigning Mvp 2 Time scoring champ,6 All Nba selections back to back All star game Mvp and many more accomplishments . This year he just got the most triple doubles in nba history at 42 and even this season he is still getting triple doubles at a crazy rate .Also i feel like people undervalue the triple double , Also he has the best fashion in the entire NBA .Legend has it he doesn't wear the same clothes twice .With the clothes he doesn't wear again he will donate them to others in need .He doesn't hesitate when it comes to helping others ,He donated 17 Million to UCLA (His college ) .This is another thing that makes him my favorite nba player Hands down. Some people judge his dress game because they dont have good taste in fashion . At first i thought the same but you have to stay woke to see why he dresses the way he does . Whenever he enters a room everybody stares .This confidence is something we all should have.

Here I have created two bracelets through crocheting. The first bracelet is smaller with a pastel blue button and can wrap around your hand twice, while the bigger one is complete with a golden flower button and can wrap around your hand three times. Both of them were created using the twisted half double crochet. During the beginning creation of these bracelets, I struggled to gain the hang of crocheting, but by the end of it I mastered the different crochets that we learned. I am very happy with the final aesthetic of my bracelets.

"Black Girl, No Voice"

“I am dripping melanin and honey. I am black without apology.” - Upile

My art piece is a portrait of a depiction of a black girl. I wanted to communicate the importance of a black girl who is versatile with her hair (rather it’s considered natural or not.) I decided for her not to have a face to show a “mystery aspect.” She does not have a mouth to show how in today’s society African Americans don’t have a voice to express themselves politically. I believe that this piece connects to some of my previous work because it is a portrait.

This is my first time ever creating a very powerful message like this piece. I am proud of this piece because I believe this artwork is relatable and it conveys a message. I believe that this message conveys a contemporary one. A message that can be seen from years down the line like Frida Kahlo’s artwork and can create an emotion for the audience to interpret.

When creating this portrait I used several materials. The materials I used to create this portrait are a pencil, charcoal, watercolor paint, a paintbrush, a piece of paper,  and pastel crayons. The technique that I used to create the texture of the hair is by drawing stroke like hairs and gently rubbing my fingers to create “smudge” like marks. I believe that this technique was crucial to this art piece because without it the hair wouldn’t look realistic.

In conclusion,  I believe if I could change one aspect of this project, I would change the fact that I have fewer details, but I am content with my work. I believe for this project I truly put my best “pencil” forward. I think that I created a very powerful message for a small piece of paper.

Cinque Portrait

In the art piece that I created, it represents a visual of one of Science Leadership Academy  Beeber students; Jhakur Hall. It portrays him on the soccer field with a ball and goal net in the distance. He is pointing to his jersey number “15” to distinguish hom from his teammates. I wanted this piece to in some form communicate the community of our SLA soccer team, by displaying one of its’  players. I made the piece very simply by just a led pencil and four colored pencils. To be completely honest, this someone aligns with my other pieces as being finished just before set due date. I was not necessarily inspired by a painting artist, but rather sport photographers. The way they photograph athletes after, or during games made we want to cultivate such images. I experimented with detail in this project. Especially regarding the leg muscles, I tried to make it as accurate as possible. Such legs turned out to be my proudest depiction in my work. Included in my success of the art is how I looped around my weakness of drawing faces, so drawing the back of a head was so much easier, and a lightbulb moment. In reflection of my project, I would want to change the open space (or background) of my art piece. Next time maybe include field grass or other players. During this project I learned that portraits are not always, just a fact, but rather a representation of a perspective or opinion of something.

Rachel McCann Art Project

My artwork is not the best, but it does have meaning. The meaning behind it is you can always overcome any issue. My artwork is me with no face, my face is filled with words and drawings that represent me.  The words that were used were beautiful, peaceful, caring, successful and strong. I chose these words because either these are things I want/hope to be or things I feel as though I am. The background is a brick wall, some of the bricks have words, phrases, and images that people have said to me, trying to bring me down. Some bricks are cracked because I no longer care what people think or say, and others are left blank because I have a whole life ahead of me to live and I will not know what people will say or do till then.

The tools I used for this project are pencils and pastels. I used a pencil to draw my artwork on the piece of paper we were given, and I used pastels because I want catch one's eye.  No one inspired me to do this piece, I just followed my hand. I am most proud of the thought process I did for this project. If I would change one thing in my project it would be adding more drawings that represent me. One thing that I have learned through completing this project is how to use pastels with limited of space.

Crafts Q1 Benchmark

For my Q1 benchmark in crafts, we had to pick a pattern and create a project. I chose to make a scarf. But at first, I couldn't figure out what to do so that was one difficult aspect. I thought I was going to make a head wrap until I looked at the pattern I chose and didn't really want to. So I decided to make a scarf. Another difficult thing was when I ran out of yarn so I had to find another color that was the same texture. I felt successful when I finally finished my scarf. But I'm still not satisfied with my scarf I think I could've done better. I would start over because I did double crochet stitch and it looked so much better and it was faster than doing single crochet. Now I can show everybody how to this.

Benchmark-Headband

IMG_1151

For the quarter 1 benchmark, I needed to pick a pattern and figure out exactly what I wanted to create. At first, I did struggle, I had no idea how to crotchet, and I still have no idea how to crotchet. I decided to create a headband, that people could wear during the winter. The pattern consists of a slip stitch and 4 chains. I made three different headbands, before I made one that I was actually proud of. In my opinion, I don't think I'd ever want to do this again. It's fun, but it's just not my cup of tea. It's frustrating and hard, to make it as perfect, as you want it to be. If I could start over, I think I'd take it seriously before actually having to create something, because, I didn't actually try doing it until it was crunch time. I still am not confident, to teach others.

Q1 Benchmark - Art 2

Jorge Gomez
Jorge Gomez

My artwork has an alien like person standing on a cloud reaching out to other clouds and a sunset like setting in the background. Through my art I hope to show how alienation is something that I face in my life with my culture. I feel isolated in a room full of mexican culture because I feel as if I don’t fit in. This brings me back to my personal life experiences and feeling as if I wasn’t part of the culture that makes me, me.

As for the drawing portion of my work, I used a pencil to first draw an outline and then oil pastels to color in everything. This was a struggle because oil pastels are very messy and can easily ruin your drawing if not used correctly. Then i used a conte crayon in order to help the outlines have more definition in them so that there would be a separation between two things on the drawing. The sharp edges of the square crayon helps for a more subtle straight look to the finished product. Something that I learned while using the crayon was having to push the crayon slow but put pressure on the crayon at the same time so that if you draw a curve it looks neat.

The artist that inspired my art was Frida Kahlo because although her painting were very sad and had bad/dark meanings to them, she still managed to put some love or good heart into the background story. For me, although I feel disconnected from my culture, I still have love for it and want to make my relationship with it stronger. Throughout my life going to family gatherings would be uncomfortable for me since the music, food and people felt distinct to me. I didn’t feel a warm welcome when I would be around my own family.

In conclusion, one thing that I am most proud of in this work is the background story that it has because it’s very important to me. While one thing that I would change is the things that I decided to include in my drawing. I would change the clouds for planets and the background to the Mexican flag so that it would have a more clear meaning in my drawing and when I explain.

Benchmark Crafts

Well in this class for quarter 1 I learned a lot about crocheting and I thought about switching but, then I stayed and actually enjoyed it so it was fun. I learned how to do double crochet and single in just a month which surprised me and will help next quarter which I can't wait for. So, my project is an Bracelet with double and single crochet together and I made this because my line was short so I couldn't make my hat. Then, my sister said she wanted a bracelet so I made her one.
