Anatomy Benchmark: Motor Vehicle Injury

Posted by Ngozi Enwereji in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 4:09 am
Our PSA was about motor vehicle injuries as a public health issue. Many organizations feel like it's not taken seriously. The video below contains an informative skit and a short interview from a motor safety advocating organization.
The work for this project was done equally among all group members. We each did 1and 1/3 worth of a current event, we all created questions, and did one specific aspect of the video. For me, it was editing.
We did really good research in terms of looking for information and looking for organizations. The most challenging part would be the fact that almost all of the organizations we called never get back into contact with us after we left them information.
The most meaningful part about this project is researching an issue you already know about and constantly being surprised about the other problems that lie beneath.

Q4 Art Project

The art piece that I’ve choose to draw for my quarter 4 is a picture of Chadwick Boseman looking at the observer wearing a black suit with yellow leaf designs. In this piece, I wanted to communicate that a mixture of generations. For Chadwick is very famous now, while the art style he was drawn in was popular in the 1950’s. For this project, I simply used color pencils to fill in his skin color and suit. I also used a very bleeding ebony stick to color most black things in the picture like his hair, eye, or eyebrow. The latest work I’ve done was a draft of what I’ve just completed (Nothing special).

First, I outlined the entire drawing in pencil. Next, all the black areas were colored with the ebony stick. Lastly. Everything else was colored with color pencils. The Artist I studied is named Alex Katz. The special techniques the artist uses is fact that his art is not very detailed to the point of real life, but the person in the end is recognizable. I even learned a new technique of shading in terms of Katz’s art style (Which is coloring different areas of his face with a darker shade of brown).

In this artwork, most proud of how similar my mine was to the actual artist’s. If I could change something about my work, I would use a different material of coloring the black areas because the ebony sticks bleed a lot and if you brushed against it, it would get everywhere. In conclusion, my was difficult to make because of materials used and art style my artist used, but I think this was an overall successful art piece.

Ngozi Enwereji Capstone

Hello, my name is Ngozi. The main focus of my capstone is based on designing a 2 dimensional and physical representation of a fictional spacecraft while also applying logic to how this could actually become a reality. Although the designing process might be easy for me, I had to do actual research on what was in an actual fighter, it’s accessories, technology, and how it worked. To take it a step further, to display my engineering skills, I created 3 additional designs while pertaining relevance to it’s first fictional counterpart. In conclusion, this project is essentially putting my engineering mechanics and designing on display.

This project taught me a lot about what alcohol can do to the body. I learned certain things that alcohol does to your brain and and it makes sense because those effects are what make people drunk. In conclusion, this project made sense of an interesting topic I didn't really know much about.

Q2: Still Life

For my quarter two project, I did a still life drawing. The drawing was of my glasses laying on the table in with it’s shadow projecting below it. Behind it lies my phone on top of a pencil that can not be seen. It’s shadows are present as well. When drawing this, I wanted to make the view seem like a real life image and realize later that it was drawn with pencil. For this, I used ebony pencils. The 4H was used to simply draw out the objects while the 4G created darker lines which were used for shadowing or making other lines more defined. My finger was used to give the illusion of shading.

Comparing this to my last project, self portrait, you can see a difference. That project was more personal, where I could add certain features to whoever I was drawing to give a certain theme or meaning. I used colors, added different features, and didn’t use my face. This project was more restricting because you could only draw what you saw. No adding or picturing what you think something should look like.

When creating my piece, I first drew my glasses. Second I worked on shadowing. Then drew the phone, followed by it’s shadowing. Lastly I reviewed my work for any lines I could make finer and shadowings to improve.

An artist that inspired me was Emma Gennet. I like how she draws her images on a black background. Visualization was an important skill to use in this project as you needed to be able to draw what you see and not what you think you should see. If the technique is not followed, then it’s not still life. A new technique I learned was using different pencils to give darker lines. And I’m most proud of the phone drawn in the background because I believe it was well done and it gives perspective to the glasses. In the end this was a great project that taught me more skills still life drawing. Although if I had to do it again, I’d recommend more time on the final drawing.

Lead Poisoning

Posted by Ngozi Enwereji in Environmental Science · Aziz · C on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 9:10 pm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLzfGPWkFig

The video we created was a daily news cast that had breaking news to share. Our BBW news covered the dangers of lead and how it's exposed to children. They were not only explained by our host, but also two environmental justice warriors and a Professor at Harvard. We also gathered a personal experience from an average person on the street seeing how lead poisoning affected his life. We chose this topic because we had all ready had a lot of information on lead and we wanted to make it more well known how dangerous it is.

I feel like I contributed a lot in my project and in my group. I gathered part of our collective information and organized our sources. In the script, I also wrote the lay out of an interview. Lastly in the video, I played a Harvard Professor and a random person on the street.

As a group, I feel like we included all the information and requirements needed for the project. Although if we could do this differently, I think we'd change the scenery for a lot of our video. We could've used props also.

The most meaningful part of this PSA was learning the information than anything else because some of it was new and ridiculous to me. So when creating this, we had to made sure that we captured the audience's attention so they'd actually care about what they're watching.

What stood out to me was the fact that the majority of Philadelphia had a relatively high lead rate in most of it's areas. I wondering if any of the cities around Philadelphia have any similar traits.

Final Portrait Project

Posted by Ngozi Enwereji in Art 1 · Hertz · d1 on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 10:07 am

My self portrait actually doesn’t have myself in it. I drew an actor known as Chadwick Boseman. This picture shows, just his face with parts of it altered. His left eye is blue, the right eye is yellow, a section in the Nigerian flag and he has two red slashes. I wanted this art piece to communicate my culture and myself. The alterations done on his face reflects me. The nigerian flag means that I’m nigerian, the blue eyes are for being smart, yellow for successful future, and the two dashes because I do martial arts. And I choose to do Chadwick Boseman because he does a lot of films that remind me about my culture. I did not use much to create my artwork. I used, a mechanical pencil, color pencils, and one charcoal stick. When using these materials, I had to go a bit above and beyond when coloring or making a definite line because I didn’t want the colors to fade just in case they clash into each other. I would like to relate this back to the sketch that I did in my sketch book prior to my final sketch. I feel like the sketch in my book was a lot more accurate in capturing the likeness  or Chadwick Boseman, as the one I drew now, looks noticeably different. The way I created my work was simple. First I just drew Chadwick Boseman’s face on the paper with mechanical pencil and outlined where I would fill in the different marks with color pencil. Second, I colored in his face from his black hair/beard/eyebrows, to the nigerian flag, to his brown skin (I layered with 3 types of brown), and his eyes with the colors I intended. I lastly outlined the outside of his face with charcoal. The artist that I take personal inspiration from is named Lionel Smit. He’s an African artist that became an artist because it came naturally to him.

I used the hashing method to make the beard/hair/eyebrows which is important to the realisticness to the picture. I didn’t really use a new techniques, except for the fact that I doubled down on coloring. I am most proud of the fact that I was able to draw Chadwick Boseman so realistically because I don’t prefer to draw real life of anything. I would change the size of what I draw on, but I learned how to draw more realistically more than I usually do, which I guess cancels out the complaint.

Natural Disasters and Earth System Research

Posted by Ngozi Enwereji in Environmental Science · Aziz · C on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 8:23 pm
1. How do the earth systems affect each other?
Earth's systems can affect each other by natural disasters. They have a strong influence on everything around them which can cause a chain of events. For example, an earthquake can split land through the middle, affecting the land (geosphere),but it can also split in the ocean and cause a tsunami, that could wash out everything it's close to on land (hydrosphere). And then tornado can just rip anything to spreads because of hot and cold temperature winds chasing each other (atmosphere). They all influence the living organisms because they are very dangerous and life threatening (Biosphere).

2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters?
They can help us be prepared for what ever natural disaster comes next so we can be away from harm. Like if an earthquake just started, we could predict if it will cause a tsunami depending on where it happened.

3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future?
We could create 100% life proof safe houses to keep ourselves in when when ever natural disasters happen or leave to be safe.

Reading about this I was really surprised, but I was told that this was the season for natural disasters. I didn't remember this happening last year, but I know this year is really shocking to me because we're frequently hearing about natural disasters every week.

After the presentations, a common theme that everyone said was the fact there was too many words and they were condensed which made it hard to read. They thought everything else was positive though.

Q4 Benchmark Final

Posted by Ngozi Enwereji in Botany · Aziz · y1 on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 11:20 pm

The video we created was a PSA containing two types of information. We first had an skit that consisted of the people in or group protesting on the street saying information relating to urban gardening. Then it would soon switch to an interview were took at an actual community/city urban garden. We asked them a lot of question based on our previous checkpoints to make a 21 minute interview.

To this group I contributed plenty by taking part of how we were going to do the skit; the basic idea of what we were doing. I also helped by including at least three questions to ask during the interview we would soon accomplish. I was also present in the video and the recordings.

I think our interview went perfectly because of the questions we had, the amount of care the people displayed, and the responses we got. I feel like our commercial could be better (If I had to pick an area of improvement). I’m not sure in a specific area, because I think it’s fine, but I don’t think it had the same flow of information as the interview (Even though it was 21 minutes). But I'm still very pleased with the skit.

The most meaningful part of the PSA was doing the interview, because I learned a lot of things from the questions i asked. I was very interested and it made m plan in my head that “when I get my own apartment, I will definitely have some kind of garden in my backyard”. Even after the interview, off camera, I asked another question because I was genuinely interested. It was about what kind of water was used to fuel water plants (WHICH DOESN’T NEED SOIL!).

Media and Design: Final Project

Posted by Ngozi Enwereji in Intro to Design and Multmiedia on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 8:43 am
Quarter 1
  • Slide 1: Web design

    • The overall vision and goal(s) of the project

  • Slide 2:I wanted to make a website that highlighted my accomplishments and also told something about me.

    • Was the project successful? Why? Why not?

  • Slide3: I think the project was successful because I got to tell everything I wanted about me on the website, but it could still be better. I could have Included my family members, friends’ names, and more pictures of them both.

 Quarter 2

  • Slide 1: Image Editing

    • The overall vision and goal(s) of the project

  • Slide 2: After seeing a cool movie in 2016, it’s theme stuck with me and I wanted to convey it in the image editing project. We had to create one image that encompasses a message and at least four images. There would have to be evidence that you used editing tools.

    • Was the project successful? Why? Why not?

  • Slide 3: I think the project was successful because my vision was successfully met. I first found the images that I wanted and sometimes I found other images that changed how I wanted to show my final image. It was for the better and my final image turned out better than I thought.

 Quarter 3

  • Slide 1: Graphic Design

    • The overall vision and goal(s) of the project

  • Slide 2: In this project, we were supposed to make a sign. I thought I could be realistic and make a street sign. I wanted it to be funny and a twist on what people usually think.

    • Was the project successful? Why? Why not?

  • Slide3: I think the project was a little successful. In the end I was still able to make the sign. But I was very limited to what I could make, probably because I didn't have much practice with the website. And the tool I was using wouldn’t let me do the things I wanted to, so I had to work around it.

Quarter 4

In this project I simply put a sign around the artwork I had done to make it more realistic and followed the directions of the project. I did this project because I felt I haven’t done as well on this project as the others. So wanted to improve my work.

Your high point of the course when it comes to your learning

In this class I think i have really good visions of what I want to create even before the next checkpoint would tell me to do so.

An area of growth for you

Although, my visions are great, my representation of them could be better. Due to me not fully realizing what I could do on a specific editing software, my ideas are limited because I can’t due much stuff on the editor, to knowledge.

How you have used or could use a skill or technique you learned this year outside of this class

A skill I’ve learned from this class in general is the idea of checkpoints. The thought of organizing on my own what I want to do would be great and the thought process will pay off in the end.

An idea you want to pitch for a project for next year's class

I think a good idea for next year could be making an animation skit or game.

3 tips for anyone taking this class

  • Turn in checkpoints on time

  • Even if it’s locked, still d the checkpoints (It’ll help with the thought process)

  • Follow the basic/easy rules of the class

Q2 Benchmark Green Design

Posted by Ngozi Enwereji in Botany · Aziz · y1 on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 7:27 pm
Ngozi Enwereji

Process: Our project was about making a green design that would benefit the environment and make a teacher’s classroom more eco friendly by implementing our design into their class. In preparation for this project, we looked up 10 green designs. We wrote about them and considered which one was more accomplishable and easy to do. We had many ideas rough drafts of what we wanted to do, but most of them did not come up in the final product due to the cooperation of the product. Although what we did end up making deal with our client that we talked with, Ms. Reed, and we were able to work fondly from there. Our client simply wanted us to make her room more “plant-full”. We agreed that we wanted it to be seen, get enough sunlight to live, look appealing, not get in the way of the children in the upper side of the classroom, and take up space that isn’t already used. We accomplished all of these. The last one being partial.

Image Editing Project

Posted by Ngozi Enwereji on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 9:11 am

The statement itself can be in text form or you can include it as a voice over within your project feature. You MUST include:

  • A description of your project and project goals, including what you hoped to learn through completing the project.

The project goals were to find out how to edit an image while still sending a secret message. The only thing I hoped to learn was how to edit an image through this project.

  • A description of the process and steps you went through to complete the project.

To complete the project was simple. First I found images that weren’t copy right, just to avoid image rights, I found 4 images. Then I started a tutorial to find out how to edit an image. I then used the skills gained to complete the project by editing multiple images.

  • Any successes and/or failures you encountered. If you describe a failure, explain how you overcame or worked around that failure.

I successfully created the image I wanted to make. But i couldn’t out a fade effect on the images the way I wanted to. I also had some problems with overlapping images, I figured out how to fix that.

  • What you actually ended up learning through the completion of the project. (BE SPECIFIC about skills, concepts, ideas....)

What I learned about this project was how to edit an image and the message I was trying to send also taught me something about values and that everything wasn’t also black and white.

  • What you learned about yourself through the completion of the project. (don't skip this one, it's important!)

Through this project I learned that I was very perceptive about situations that come to my attention. I also learned that I’m growing morally.

  • How you would do this project differently if you were to do it all over again.

I I were to do this project over again, I who probably do the same theme, but with different images and situation to make the viewers still watch to make a big choice.

  • Any tips or hints for others attempting this project.

Look at the tutorials in the websites provided because they really help  when editing. You can really do anything.

  • What this project inspired you to do next.

This project inspired my to draw more, something I like to do. I would like to draw complicated images.

  • Proper citations for any work that is not yours

Yes.

  • How did the tool you used to create the project help and/or hinder your ability to convey the message that you were trying to convey through project? Please provide a detailed explanation.

The website I used helped me do a lot of the things that I wanted to do, with filter sand colors, but i also stopped me from doing things like overlaying things the way I wanted and fading.

I have also posted this on my website.

Q1 Project: Website Design

Posted by Ngozi Enwereji on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 9:30 pm

The project I have made was a website that would talk about me and the two projects I did. The project that I have attempted to do was an electricity project that requires that we have to add lights to something that was meaningful. I gained to learn more about electricity and circuits. Another project I showcased was a spanish restaurant project. I was working on the design part of the project where I designed the top of the restaurant. I learned the business of making a project.

The project took a relatively long time. Or at least it felt like it. The process of completing the checkpoints we were given were easy and all, but the amount of time we were given made it seem longer. I took pictures that I had recently of myself and projects that I liked and remembered and created the website.

The success that I encountered was the making of my website. By that I meant  making look appealing and interesting. I failed to follow the way my outline of my website looked like. But I did do my best to match what it would look like. Some images were also hard to upload on to the website.

What I actually ended up learning in the project was how to launch an appealing and organized website.

What I learned about myself when I was trying to complete this project was the amount of accomplishments that I’ve done in my life so far.

If I were to do this project differently, I would choose two different and more project for the project section. And I would add much more drawings too.

I do not have any hints or tips to tell you about making this project accept asking yourself what would you honestly want to see in a website.

This project inspired me to get started on the next Multi Media and Design project.

Poetry Project

Posted by Ngozi Enwereji in SPANISH 2 - Moran - D on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 2:26 pm
The purpose of the poetry project was to express you thoughts and emotions through poetry. You were supposed to pick a poet  from on the ones provided to you. There were 5 sections that you needed to complete. They were the biography about the poet, biography about you, a poem that you have to pick of your poet, analyzing your the poem from the poet, and a poem of your own.

This project seemed easy to do. The most important part was creating your own poem which is based on your feelings. This was easy to complete, but with time management and other work, it made this project a bit harder

The purpose of this project was to pick a country and city of Central America. You needed to promote the city/country and persuade people to go their for a vacation. The information needed to be real and accurate. The promotion needed to include a brochure, commercial, and power point/ prezzi on the city.

Reflecting on this, I see that this was an overall overwhelming project. There were many parts with out a lot of time. There were many difficulties working and completing the project but in the end the work and grade were satisfying.

The Las Noticias Benchmark was about making a video news cast in Spanish the implemented an introduction, transitions, health segment, fashion segment, weather segment, breaking news segment, and a conclusion part in it. The video needed to have been attractive and have specific concepts of the Spanish language. A first this project seemed hard and I thought in the end I would get a low grade on this project. But with the group I was working with made it easier to finish it. The video looked really nice but filming was a bit rushed. Over all it was positive experience and  would like to do another benchmark like this with the same people.

Día de los Muertos was a benchmark that is all about remembering the dead. We were supposed to honor the dead by making sugar skulls out of them and mask for them. We also wrote a eulogy to commemorate them at heir funeral which is also supposed to be filmed. The person would have had to have been close to us in order for us to do this benchmark effectively.

In the conversational presentation, we had tot ell the difference between the verbs ser and estar. We talked about each category on which to which it would work. We used videos in each slides to convey our point. Everything needed to be in Spanish with a certain criteria of what we need to have on each slide.

I choose this topic because my sensei in karate keeps telling my and the other students that the world is getting darker and crazier. So now I wanted to know how dangerous a small part of the world, the U.S., really is. Doing this research, I hope that people will understand the robberies in the U.S. and some dangers to society.

No cyberbullying
No cyberbullying
Cyber-bullying is a federal offense to the law. From no matter what age, anyone can go to jail or pay a fine or both if this felony is committed. The fine for this would be from 5,000 to 10,000 and may be even greater. This is most seen in the teenage area but can start in any age starting from youth.
