Sianni Wood Capstone

For my capstone, I paired up with Mekhya Johnson and we donated clothes and shoes to the covenant house. The covenant house is a center that houses homeless teenagers. We decided to do this because we wanted to help those who can't help themselves. Throughout the process, we faced some difficulties. In the beginning, it was difficult for some people to donate so we started to reach out to outside sources such as our family members and the people in our community. For the final product, we received 12 pairs of gently worn shoe and 78 particles of clothing. Throughout this project, I learned a lot about the difficulties behind being a teenager. I thought my life was hard but there are teenagers out there with no support system at all and no one to run to when they are in trouble. School could be the least of their troubles. They are neglected by their parents and forced to raise themselves. They are pregnant and alone with no source of income or help. They are stuck in the streets with no way out. They are homeless and depressed. I met with some of these teenagers and talked with them and it made me appreciate what I have at home and all the things I am able to do. It made me want to give much more than clothes and shoes.

Teen Pregnancy

Posted by Sianni Wood in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Monday, April 15, 2019 at 8:31 am
Our video was about Teen pregnancy and how it affects their lives. I personally wanted to do this topic because it seemed most interesting and relatable. My mother along with a lot of my aunts and friends mother's were teen parents. It seems as if everyone knows someone who had a baby while they were teenagers. I contributed to the project by doing  lot of research on the statistics of teen pregnancy and helping out with the script. I communicated with my group very well. What I could of done differently was try not to procrastinate as much. The most meaningful part of the PSA was they we were all present and we all knew what we had to do and we got it done quickly and it cam out nice.

In this Project we learned the different ways schizophrenia affects the brain and I learned that schizophrenia tends to affect people more as they get older and it usually worsens rather than get better. It effects the person's limbic system which is the system that control's their emotions and this causes them to be unable to know the difference between what is real and what isn't. Doctors usually prescribe an anti-psychotic drug to hep with this.

Q4 Final Project

Posted by Sianni Wood on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 7:31 pm
The image is a self portrait of me showing my emotions on the outside. It shows how tired and drained I am and how sad I be from working long hours at work and going to school. I want my work to communicate the fact that you should take care of yourself and be good on the inside so it won’t show on the outside. For my image I used soft pastels. I wanted everything to look soft as if it would melt if you touch it. This relates to my previous work because my previous work is mostly self-portraits. The process to create was I first did a sketch and then i start on the big areas and shaded the color in then I went in on the little details and then I added anything to it that would make it pop. An artist that has work similar to mine is Frida Kahlo. She makes mostly self portraits that correlate to her personal life. A technique that was important to creating my image was to make sure I put a paper over my work so it doesn’t smudge. A new technique I learned was to rub in the colors with your finger to make it blend better. I am most proud of the fact that I was able to create a product that I imagined in my head. One thing I would change about this is the fact that the canvas I made it on was very small and not able to really showcase my work. Throughout this project I learned how to mix colors very well and I learned how to use soft pastels.

Mixed Media

For this project we had to create a piece of original work that incorporates 3 mediums or more. I decided to create a piece of artwork that was a physical representation of my heart. I decided to use marker, oil pastels, soft pastels, charcoal, string, staples, cardboard, and newspaper. I used the marker to outline the heart. I used oil pastels to make the artifact look like and actually heart. I used 4 different shades of pink and tan. I used soft pastels to blend before I used the charcoal because oil pastels and charcoal doesn’t mix well together but soft pastels and charcoal does and soft pastels have a similar color to oil pastels. I then took the side that the charcoal was on and put one line of string through the paper and stapled it down to make it look like stitches. I then took some cardboard and glued little pieces of newspaper to it. I put the heart and glued it onto the cardboard so that the newspaper was a background to the heart.

I decided to make a heart for this project because I had a great idea of how the make the heart look unique. Instead of making a regular heart, I made the heart one side healthy and the other side not. The bad side had charcoal to make it seem like the heart was dead and rotten. It also had string and staples to make it look like someone attempted to fix it but it didn’t work out. I did this because, I have got my heart broken so many times and everytime I try to start over or get over it it doesn’t help. You can’t fix a rotten heart by putting stitches in it right ?  I made the newspaper background because I wanted it to represent how my heart is publicly displayed. I make it known through my actions that I have had my heart broken in the past and I don’t want it to happen again.

My life has changed a lot in the past couple of months, I ave become more independent. I do not ask my parents for money anymore because I have a job to support myself. I learned how to balance work and school without falling behind. I improved as a person.

When I leave high school I want to join the air force so that I can get a full ride to college after I serve my time. I want to go to Stanford University and run track and filed there. I want to study there to be a cardiovascular surgeon. Later on I want to open a treat yourself salon where you have a beauty supply store, hair salon, nail salon, and unisex spa. I also want to open a nonprofit homeless shelter.

Self Portrait

Image

I drew a picture of my inner grandmother. I drew this because I was really close with my grandma when I was younger. They called me her and her twin sister (my great aunt) triplets because we all looked exactly alike. They even put her name (Verlene) as my middle name because they knew she was going to love me dearly when I was born. I remember going over her house when I was younger and she would feed me my favorite food, mashed potatoes and chicken and give me red wine and me, her and my grandpa would sit and watch scary movies together.  Unfortunately she died in 2007 of a heart disease.

In the picture I included an old lady face with no wrinkles. I included no wrinkles because she didn’t have any wrinkles, she died when she was 50 which is very young. I included her with big lips with green lipstick because green represents life, growth and harmony and I felt like this was apart of her personality. I feel as though she will live on forever in me, she is apart of me forever. She was always happy and positive no matter what. She always saw the good in situations and the good in people. I made her with dimples because both her and I have really deep dimples, it is one of our best assets. Last but not least I created her with a lot of curly hair. My grandma had a buzz cut but she always wore curly wigs to church every sunday. I didn’t want to make her with a short cut because I always felt like that didn’t match her personality. She is fun and spontaneous. Because of me, My grandma with live forever.

The tools I used to create my work of art was colored pencils. I used colored pencils because it had all the colors that I wanted to incorporate into my artwork. When I colored my picture I made sure all the colors were vividly shown, I colored the lips and dark as possible so that it can pop out. I also learned while making the curls that the harder you press on the pencil the more defined the curls will be.

I am most proud that I was able to not just draw this picture, but bring it to life and tell a story through it. I would say though that if I had to change one thing, I probably would have tried harder to make her eyes even and make it look like she has a body at the bottom.  To finish this off I just want to say that drawing this picture have brought back so many memories and I learned to always cherish your loved ones while you still have them with you because tomorrow isn’t promised for anyone.

Fighting's like WW3.....Still loves me

Sister's are supposed to fight because that's just how it is. But me and my sister when we fight we really fight. There will be fist thrown, kicks kicked, slaps slapped, scratches, pinches everything. We both have scars from the fights that we have and we both have said some very mean things in the midst of fighting. But we both know that we mean no harm and if one of us are n trouble the other will be right there to pick up the pieces and help.

Example: One time when me and her were out we were playing ding dong dipsy. It was my turn to go so after i rung the doorbell and started running somebody came outside to see who was at the door and my sister got really scared and pushed me out of her way and i scrapped my shoulder and twisted my ankle and then we started arguing but then we noticed that the person from the house was coming towards us and when she reached us my sister took the blame for ringing the doorbell and we made up.

I chose to do a pocketbook. This is important to me because without it, I wouldn't have anything to hold my things in and I would probably lose most of my personal items. I wanted to have a light in the bag because I go out a lot, and when I am out and it is dark and I need something from out of my bag I really can’t see. So I wanted to include so light so that I can save some time and find what I need.

Street Art

The meaning of this art work that I have created is to love your natural hair and have confidence in your appearance no matter what race you are. I have always been natural, I never had a perm/relaxer but I never really like the texture of my hair. I had a hair type of 4c and it was very hard to handle so I started putting certain treatments in my hair to make it 4a/3c. This change made me have more confidence in wearing my hair in its natural state. This is what inspired me to draw my piece of art. I put my art in from of my advisory. I chose this location because I wanted the people that I will be going through high school with, to see something that represents who I am and understand me more. This project made me realize that most art have deeper meanings behind it that some people wont understand. When I travel around the city and I see street art I don't usually think about why the person drew what they drew and I just see the big picture and I don't get a deeper meaning of the art. Now that I have done this project and I understand art better I will try to analyze what the art means and the purpose of the art.

The Internet and You

Posted by Sianni Wood on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 3:08 pm
Social media will affect me when I go to college because the things I post can affect whether or not they will accept me. It will affect whether or not I will get a job I applied for. My online choices will affect others because the things I post can be offensive to some people and they will feel sad and depressed. My number one rule for posting online is to be yourself and don't catfish other people. Your page should be exactly what I said, YOUR page.

Social Media Survival Guide

Sianni Wood

When I am online I am myself. I post what I want and I do not impersonate someone else. People would think of me as a person who loves to be around family and friends. On all of my social media sites I do not have any pictures of me by myself. Before I post online I think about my mom because she follows me. So I have to ask myself is this appropriate. The Pros of sharing online is that you are able to find out things faster. The Cons of sharing online is that it is not private. When we post something sometimes we don’t look over it and ask ourselves who will see this. We also don’t realize that when we post something that it is there forever. We don’t know that once we hit post it is immediately available to everyone around the world. This can affect our reputation. If we post something inappropriate it can cause us to get fired from our job or never get a job. I think that potential employers should not give out background checks. They should know how to separate their private life from their professional life. Free speech is the act of saying what you want. Some stuff like invasion of privacy, discrimination/racism, ruining someone’s reputation with false information is not protected by the law. But, you can state your opinion in a proper manner. An internet troll is someone who bullies people online and get joy from doing it. The goals of internet trolls is to get attention. We can stop trolling by just ignoring them. The pros of posting anonymously is that people don’t know who you are and they can’t hold anything against you. The cons of posting anonymously is that you can still get targeted and get bullied.

Tips:

  • Be respectful of yourselves and others when posting online.

  • Always ask yourself , “Who will see this” before posting

  • Do not bully anyone. If you don’t have anything to say then don’t say it at all.
