  "Relaxing Bug" Street Art

IMAG0754 (1)

My piece was inspired by the children's books that I read with my son. I wanted to create something that felt whimsical and imaginative.

I chose the location I did because I wanted it to look as though the insect was lounging in  a corner and I wanted it to be near my room.

I have been paying attention to the different styles of illustration in children's books and have really been thinking about how under-appreciated some children's book art is. I also thought about how an image can transport the viewer and also pique a viewer's interest in finding out more of the story. I like to imagine that there is a story being told in my drawing.

I am now paying attention to the varied styles of street art and I think more about the purpose behind the art that I see and the characters that artists create, similar to how children's book illustrators have to think about the characters that they are illustrating.

Natural Hair.My Hair. Our Hair.

Posted by Kadeen White in ART 9 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 8:19 pm

I chose this memoir because I have and love my natural hair, but it was not always like that. When I was younger I didn’t like wearing my hair “nappy”, so i would always beg my mom to keep straighten it. Eventually, I got a perm, which chemically made my hair straight. I continued to get them from age 10 to about 12 and then I decided to go natural once i started to educate myself more and more about natural hair. Now that I am completely natural, I have learned to love my hair in its curly state, and I encourage my friends to do the same. In my drawing, I have my laptop because i spend most of my free time on it researching and watching natural hair tutorials.

1 point perspective drawing - 6 word memoir

Live ,love ,laugh you'll be happy

My mom used to say this to me when I was sad or going trough something. I think that It made an impact on my life and how I know view certain things with a different mind set. It can give you encouragement and help you learn what you wanna do in life, what will make you happy , to feel loved and to live the life you want.It may help you when your down. If you live your life the way u want they you will love and laugh and that's happiness . When my mom first said this to me , i was 6 . I was upset because i didn't know what i wanted to be when i grew up so i asked her what to do. She told me that you just need to be happy at the age that i am and that to know that people love very much. And when you do find what you wanna do for a living that what your gonna live for love and will make you happy. You can always look on the brighter side.

I have changed for the better

These 6 names are people that I have grown a strong friendship with.During the beginning of the school year I hung out with the same 3 people.I have broken out my shell and decided to meet new people.I have made this decision for the better of me growing in my 4 years in high school. If people don’t want you to see you do better then there aren’t good for you.

During the school year I have stupid arguments with my “friends” that could have been resolve over a simple conversation.

In my room I included  a picture of my friends in 8th grade and my friends in 9th grade. This shows that over time you will stop being friends with everybody and connect with your real friends. In my room I also have my recent report cards which changed over time and now I more A's than B's which is great. My room includes a trash can because I had to get away from the past and start all over.

When I was younger I used to like reading books, it was one of the things I did in my spare time. I liked becoming immersed in the book I was reading and I could imagine myself living out the stories in the book. I really enjoyed getting new books and I was excited to begin reading.

The happy smile isn't gonna last

I feel like this expresses that life isn't always happy. I think happiness doesn't last. Because it seems like once i am happy something has to happen to ruin it. Since i was a little kid i things have been happening like deaths in the family and also good things like birthday parties and good times with family. My drawing relates to my memoir because i drew a room with two different perspectives. The two perspectives was sadness and happiness, and darkness and brightness by putting the sun in one side and the moon on the other. I also put a dark room on the darkness side.

1 Point perspective

Fighting's like WW3.....Still loves me

Sister's are supposed to fight because that's just how it is. But me and my sister when we fight we really fight. There will be fist thrown, kicks kicked, slaps slapped, scratches, pinches everything. We both have scars from the fights that we have and we both have said some very mean things in the midst of fighting. But we both know that we mean no harm and if one of us are n trouble the other will be right there to pick up the pieces and help.

Example: One time when me and her were out we were playing ding dong dipsy. It was my turn to go so after i rung the doorbell and started running somebody came outside to see who was at the door and my sister got really scared and pushed me out of her way and i scrapped my shoulder and twisted my ankle and then we started arguing but then we noticed that the person from the house was coming towards us and when she reached us my sister took the blame for ringing the doorbell and we made up.

Mekhya Johnson's One Point Perspective Project

Posted by Mekhya Johnson in ART 9 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 11:12 am

In my drawing it's a almost empty room. with moving boxes all around. My room represents how I want to move on with my life because it's no the life I want to live. My 6 word memoir is " I should have went somewhere else". In my room there are moving boxes and they represent how I'm moving on with my life. An example in my life would be caring about other people's feelings than my own. I would put others first before me, so I want to change that because I don't want to go down that road.

A casual day on the internet

Posted by Dexter Le in ART 9 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 11:12 am

Memoir: A casual day on the internet

I decided to write this memoir because it relates to my own experiences. I usually go on the internet almost every single day and it does not get tiring at all. Here in my picture, I have my desk and equipment I use daily. I have 2 drawing tablets one on the front and one on the side of the desk. I play an online game that has an optional use of the little tablet and I draw on the bigger tablet. I also have my keyboard laid out and I decided to draw this more detailed because it has to be one of my prized possessions out of my whole desk. Along with the desk, I have two monitors which are not the same brand at all. I can relate this to my memoir because this is the equipment I use to browse the internet daily. Another reason why I decided to use this memoir is because I earned all of this by myself. What makes this special is when you spend your own money on something you need and it's a fuzzy feeling of "This is mine".

One point Perspective Project

6 word  memoir

They all say the same thing

 Backstory

Everybody says and thinks the same thing, when it comes to their everyday life.  Sometimes I feel abnormal, because sometimes I don't agree with their actions, music, or beliefs. A lot of people listen to the same music, watch the same shows, talk about the same thing, and believe the same thing. I mean there is nothing wrong with that, but there is nothing wrong with having  a different mindset on the world. That's what I'm learning right now.  Example, I have a different taste in music, it's a lot different from my friends. There is this one artist that I like, I play him for my friends all the time. They don't like him they think he is corny. I used to listen to them and follow the crowd, by listening to the same music they listen too. But I had to realize I don't like that type of music, and there is nothing wrong with the music I like. It's good to be different, you never get bored.

In my room I have music influence/items located all over my room. In my chair, there are a stack of CD’s, there is also CD’s scattered around the room. I have a big poster on the ceiling, and another poster on the left wall. On the ceiling there's also music lines/notes. Music has a big influence on my life, that's why i choose this concept.

6 word memoir backstory

Posted by Camilo Ruiz in ART 9 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 11:02 am

The memoir relates to the room because it is talking about art.The room has signs that it is an art gallery and the artist is very creative. There are many pieces of art that represent people being passionate about their art.Art is about loving your work. You have to care about what you draw, even if other people dont like your work,if it is nice in your eyes then it is nice.Only You know the meaning of the work and why you made it.Before I thought art was about perfection and how good the artwork looked. But as I learned about other types of art like abstract i learned that art is about meaning.
