There will be blue skies...

My artwork is a representation of some problems that I see in everyday life. I decided to create a cross with rainbow colors because the colors represent L.G.B.T.Q. association. I decided to make it a cross because people like that are not wanted in churches and things because according to their religion it is a sin. I actually did this for 2 of my friends who are apart of it. I created this so people do not feel abnormal because they are gay and they still feel like they are wanted in the world today.

For my quarter 1 project I painted on a shade and it was of a flag being held. I used various colors along with mixing some. I came up with the idea with the help of my class mates. I wanted to bring our vision to life because we are a science base school along with createtivity, so why not for the aterroids I just used a brush and dabbed it across the shade and I personally would like to add more to the shade such as a moon

(Sorry 'bout the picture. :( )
For my project, I didn't know what to draw until about week before the project was due. I'd tried constantly to draw but it really didn't work out well. So, on the Tuesday that was down the week from the due date, I sat in class in and I wondered, "how can I draw a tree?". It was then that I realized something very  important that I'd forgotten.

"What is art, if you don't like it?"

It was then that I picked up a pencil and started drawing my first draft. My medium here was a simple .3 lead pencil and some color pencils. I'm not going to go into all my drafts but let's say I had about five attempts, and three drafts. I did go through a period of experimentation, where I used a draft meant to be experimented on before I carried on to my final draft, which definitely helped.

I loved this drawing because it wasn't something that I forced myself to do. It was brought to life with pure imagination, attitude, love (of course) and intent to create. Really, art is something that is never perfect, but only if you believe it is. It is something that requires love, thought, consideration, pride, will, and life. It needs to be something that you love, and not others, otherwise, it's not art. Cuz' after all, "What is art, if you don't like it?"

Cute and Cozy

As an artist that I am, I work upon my interests. My interests can be based on my style, personality, my story, my surroundings, society, and anything in particular that I find interesting. For this project piece I had to limit some of these options and create something that inspired me in the present moment. It has been very cold and the weather hasn’t been quite great. Knitting was always something that I would say I wanted to do, but never did. This was the perfect opportunity to make something out of those two thoughts, a scarf.

Knitting is not something that is done fast, especially not a scarf. Thats is why it took me quite some time to finish this. What’s unique about my project is that not only is this for a grade, but this is something that I can keep forever. So, I did not have to stress over this assignment. I actually had a lot of fun learning and trying something different.

Surrealism

Posted by Jada Martin in ART ADV - Hertz - b2 on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 12:34 pm

As an artist, I create art that speaks to me and others about the specific art that i’m working on. I don’t think i’m a very good artist but I try to get deep into my drawings and paintings so they can be as detailed as possible. My goals as an artist is try to make paintings or drawings that tells a story behind them. I love painting and drawing because it’s also a way that I can express myself on paper.

Part of my process before I begin my painting was to research as much information about surrealism. I looked at different themes that artist have done so I can get and idea of what I wanted to do for surrealism. I came across an idea which was nature. I painted a pond with a fishing rod coming out the water with a fish at the end. When you looked at this eye you’ll also see an eye. That’s what surrealism is it makes you have a unconscious mind. For this project I used a acrylic paint and water color paint.

In conclusion, I enjoyed working on surrealism it was challenging.

White Winter Scarf

Posted by Allana Matthews in ART ADV - Hertz - b2 on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 12:06 pm

My art piece took an easier route to knitting a scarf. I needed a warm sweater but knitting would have taken too long, and I wasn’t advanced enough in it yet. What I made was an arm knitted infinity scarf. It took a short amount of time, and got me warmer faster. My artwork is based on necessities because I don’t feel confident in other kinds of artwork. I don’t have much artistic talent so paintings and drawings were out of my range of ability. I think my scarf is very nice and I’m happy that I finished it. I’m proud of how nice it turned out. Now that I have finished the scarf, I think I can tackle actual knitting.

Quarter 1 Project

quarter1 indivisual project
quarter1 indivisual project

For me as an artist I find it hard for me to be inspired to draw something creative. I feel this because all my life I have found it to be easier to just copy something. So rather than to think of something creative I would just copy anything I would see.

Now this project is different because instead of copying something I made something I wanted to make without copying anything. I know it sounds odd for a 15 year old to talk about creative drawing, since everybody does that. For me though I feel a sense of accomplishment since I never do things like this.

Now my art focuses on what I like in life. For me I like prehistoric animals since I’ve always like them since I was a child. I put that as the main focus of the picture, and then I added a forest background. I put a forest background since I’ve always like a certain aspect of the forest.I guess it’s because I like how it represents most of the life on Earth.

I did not really know what to do for my for my project. I wondered about several things, but I decided to be comfortable. For my quarter 1 project, I really wanted to do something in my comfort zone. I decided that drawing a figure an nature together is what I wanted to do. I used pencil and charcoal to do this. I really like drawing women and trees, so I decided that drawing both of them together would be suitable. The concept behind this piece is having two beautiful things in one. All women are beautiful and so is nature. I think that I played around with many ideas before reaching my final product. I realized that working with pencil and charcoal was more difficult than I thought it would be. The pencil did not blend with the charcoal very well.

Lamont Robinson Hardsurface Model

Posted by Lamont Robinson in ART ADV - Hertz - b2 on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 9:55 am

For my quarter one project I decided I would do something that I haven't before, a hardsurface model. I've done a car or two, and some other objects but nothing really creative with hardsurface models. In this project I discovered a different way of working with models, instead of painstakingly modelling vertex by vertex you can sculpt in Dynamic Topology and Re-topolgize it later. It gets the idea down and it's faster than improvising while modelling.  Which means I can sculpt and put together different shapes without worrying about Topology and the final concept, etc. It's a lot less taxing on the brain.

The way i'm showcasing what I went through is a fast-forwarded livestream. I usually livestream on my twitch page but because twitch is blocked and it's also well over 4 hours of video it's sped up but not enough to give you a seizure. In the video you can see me trying out different shapes by using booleans or sculpting with dynamic topology enabled. The mesh isn't displayed at it's original quality however it's decimated so you will see visible triangles and that's just to put less stress on the computer, because again it was livestreaming while I was working on it. I hope you think it's kind of cool because I learned a ton working on it.

Artist Statement

As an oncoming artist, I like to express my emotions in many different ways. It could be expressed physically, emotionally, and mental. But, my favorite way to express my feelings are through the work of art. For my final project in quarter 1 I’ve decided to create a painting of a galaxy. When I think of a galaxy I feel my body go motionless as if I was floating in the stars and threw the planets atmosphere. When I was painting I used acrylic paints in various colors. If you look at photos of the galaxy you could see many different extraordinary colors. So again as a upcoming artist I had to find out how to blend my colors in with each other to make them look real. I also had to learn how to actually use acrylic paints. My painting represents the universe. In the painting to me what stands out the most is the colors. Without the color you would be dull and there would be nothing to look forward too. With color your eyes winded with hope and your mind would change in hope to see the future.  IMG_0126.JPG

You can see that I’ve used a numerous amount of different colors. I’ve also made stars using speaks of white paint. Since, this was my first time ever painting on a large scale like this and also my first time painting a galaxy I’ve learned a couple of things along the way that I would like to approve on for my next project. As of right now Im happy with the outcome of my painting and I hope your are too. So thank you and enjoy!
