I revised the “volcanoes” to make them look like mountains. I tried to figure out a way to imitate snow on the mountains but I wasn’t able to. So I changed the color of the mountains to grey, white, dark grey and light grey. I also changed the ground so it look like snow a little more.

The project I did in the first quarter was a website. My overall vision I had was i wanted a website that reflected me and my personality. My goal was just to completed a successful website and it would work. The project was successful because I got what I need to be done and I liked how my website came out.

The project I did in the second quarter was a 3D model. The overall vision I had was to make a 3D model that gave a message and I would be able to tell it. My goal was to make my model look good enough for my liking. I wanted it to convey the message well also. This project was successful because I completed a complex model than what it was before.

The project I did in the third quarter was image editing. I edited a picture of myself while I added numerous things from my other pictures. The overall vision I had for this project was to make a image that just looked cool. I would say this project was successful but it wasn’t. I was trying to add some more things to my picture but I could find more to use. It was successful to because at least I made a complete image that I was satisfied yet.

The project I revised was my quarter 2 3D modeling project. I decided to revised this project because I thought of how the message could still be conveyed but with mountains instead of volcanoes. In order to change the model around some, I just change the color of volcanoes to grey, light grey, white and I kept a couple mountains black. I also changed the ground with the mountains to match the color so it could look like snow was on the ground.

Your high point of the course when it comes to your learning My high point of this course was creating my website. I found this to be my high point because I never made a website and I thought it was cool to do it.

An area of growth for you When I originally created my 3D model, it was simple and plain. But then I figured out other ways on how I could make it more complex. I didn’t want to really add anything before I realized it was simple.

How you have used or could use a skill or technique you learned this year outside of this class? For 3D modeling, I could use this in life if I wanted to make a 3D modeled hand or leg for people. People have missing limbs could use this greatly.

An idea you want to pitch for a project for next year's class A possible project could be creating a online game

3 tips for anyone taking this class

  • When completing your checkpoints, take your time with them

  • Choose your projects wisely because you don’t want to choose a project that you may find difficult

  • Don’t miss your checkpoints because if you do, your grade could be in danger

Q4 Benchmark for Media and Design

Posted by Lourdes Blazquez in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 2:02 pm

For this project I created a digital portfolio using a website generator. Here I would display my work I have completed throughout my highschool career in an attempt to get my name out in the world. When I Google my name I don’t find much, so I wanted to put something positive out into the world. I have an About Me page, Projects page, Resume and and Contact page. I think my project for Quarter one was a success because I created an easily accessible, aesthetically pleasing website that showcases my talents as a student. For my second project of the year I chose to take a more political approach. I decided to Photoshop a series of photos of Donald Trump into a Cheeto. I wished to express my feelings regarding the 2017 presidential candidacy. For this project I used Adobe Photoshop. This was a difficult task because the application is not the easiest to learn. But with tutorials and random clicks, I got it. For this project I chose to do 3D modeling. I wanted to learn how to use the application TinkerCad so I could apply this knowledge to other things I was working on outside of school. I decided to play with the shapes to create a chicken shaped coin bank. This project was not about what I created, it was about the process in which I got there. Overall this project was a success, I was able to familiarize myself with this application so that I could design bigger, better things. For my revision I chose to enhance my Quarter 2 image editing project. I chose this project because I wished to enhance the image quality subtly so that it could be that much better. This is by far my favorite project and I wanted to work on it one more time. I used the smudge tool and blur tool to clean up the edges around the edges of the cheeto. I also changed the order of some of the faces and added a orange filter to a few of the images. I feel as if this gave the image a cleaner look and a clearer display of what my image represents. A highpoint of this course in regards to this class is I have become insanely familiar with different applications and their functions. I can say that this class has helped me with tasks I do throughout my school day and extra curricular life. I was apprehensive to be a part of this class at first because it seemed like it was a waste of time, but my expectations were exceeded. This class has forced me to manage my time a little better. Meeting deadlines was harder at first because I was too focused on other classes, but my priorities have changed. I used the 3d Modeling skills I learned in this class in my Digital Fabrication internship at the Franklin Institute. I have to create two hands on activities teaching kids about brain waves. My knowledge of the application TinkerCad allowed me to use their 3d printers to create brains and lasercut wooden cards. An interesting project for next year would have to be something with coding. I think that many people will benefit from this skill and can maybe create applications. TURN IN CHECKPOINTS ON TIME AND COMPLETE. Choose projects that are interesting and challenging. Use the skills from this class to help you with other projects.

Written Reflection, Q4

Posted by Marian Heredia in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 2:04 pm

In quarter 1, we were assigned to make our own personal website to advertise ourselves to job offers, or schools. People choose different websites to use such as wix.com, weebly.com, etc. I choose Weebly. It was fairly easy to use, and I was able to make my website. It was a bit hard for me to make my website unique, and visually appealing. The project was successful for me. I was able to include all of the main points. Although, I wished I had spent more time into making it look more intriguing and putting more pictures up on it.
The project I choose in quarter 2 was to photoshop an image. I photoshopped my principal’s face onto the Mona Lisa. I used the program Adobe photoshop. My overall vision was to make it look like Mr. Johnson was the Mona Lisa. It was difficult trying to blend their skin colors together. Overall, the project was mostly successful.
In quarter 3, I did 3d modeling. I choose to make a piggy bank. It was a little difficult to find the right pieces and shapes. Then, I had to make them all stick together the same, with the same exact angles, and measurements. My vision for the project was to have a piggy bank that didn’t roll around and you could stick coins into. At first, I had trouble trying to put legs onto the piggy bank. It was difficult having the two front legs align at the exact same measurement, same for the back legs. The project was successful for the most part, except I was never able to 3D print out the piggy bank.
My high point of learning this course was when I used Adobe Photoshop. I learned how to blend two pictures together and make them look like one image. I also learned how to change the temperature or color of the picture. An area of growth that I had was being a bit more creative. In the beginning, when I first created my website, it was a mess. Now, with everything I’ve learned I believe I could make some tweaks to it and have it look more aesthetically pleasing.
Outside of class, I can use use what I’ve learned about making a website to make my own blog or website. I can also use photoshop to make a logo or design something for a business. Next year, we should learn more about html and coding. I believe it would help any kids that would like to go into computer programming.
My first tip that I have would be to always submit your checkpoints on time. My second tip would be to use what you learned in class outside of it. My third tip would be to choose a project that you would like to do.

For this quarter I choose imagine editing in Media Design. I felt like it was something that I aminteresting because I was changing a picture into something that I like. For my project I wasgoing to used photoshop to change my grandmother and uncle to angels but I decided to do afootball picture of myself and put me in the NFL draft. I had trouble trying to learned how to usethe Pixlr app but I got help from a student who was doing the same project as me. What Ilearned in during this project is that you can't use copyrighted pictures or you will have to pay afine. Only thing I would change in this project is how long I took to do certain things. A tip I havefor people who will do this project is it's a fun project. This project help me explaining that I wantto go to the NFL because I used the draft pick in the background. The next project I would lookinto is graphic design or video editing because it seems interesting. This project can be stressfulif you don't know what you want to do in the beginning because you might be anxious to do it.Other than that it's a great project try it!!! What I learned using pixlr was that you can make multiple pictures into one and create something different

3D Modeling

Posted by Marian Heredia in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 1:06 pm

I have attached a link to a youtube video of my 3d model I did on tinkercad. The project I choose to do this quarter was 3d modeling. This project allows us to create an object that can be printed out with a 3d printer. You can design it on your laptop and then have a physical object be printed out. I was hoping to learn how to make something online. First, I brainstormed of what I wanted to do. I thought of making a piggy bank, because it seemed fun and why not. So, I started picking the shapes that would fit to make a piggy bank, like a sphere for the body, a ring swirl for the tail, bumps as eyes, etc.

A failure, that I encountered while designing the piggy bank was not making feet for it. To work around this, I tried to make an indent sorta on the bottom of the pig, so that it wouldn’t roll around. I learned throughout this project, that it’s very time consuming to get all the parts right, equal, and make sure they are connected correctly. Something I learned about myself while completing this project is that, things are much more exciting when you’re creating something yourself. If I had to do this project all over again, I would have started by making the legs of the pig first. If you want to try this project, I suggest that you use tinkercad, it’s very easy to use for beginners and to create basic things, but if you want to make something else more advanced maybe you should give a look at other programs.

Road sign for animals

Posted by Joelle Putro in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 9:06 am

For this quarter I chose to do graphic design. I felt like it would be a bit similar to image editing which is what I did last time. For my project I did a road sign for animals. I really like animals and in some places poaching is a big issue. The point of my road sign is to warn animals that there are dangerous poachers ahead and to turn around.  I used pixlr to make my road sign. I made a pentagon and used the color fill tool to make it bright yellow. I used the text tool and wrote “watch out for humans” on the sign. I’m not sure if animals can read but for my project just assume that they can. I added photos of commonly poached animals to my sign and blood splatters. I overlayed these photos. Finally I made my sign transparent. I did this by cutting out the sign and adding a background and clicking transparent. It was a bit difficult figuring out how to make the background transparent but after watching some videos I figured it out. During this project I learned that I am good at asking questions and problem solving when I am stuck. This project has actually inspired me to spread awareness about poaching and it is surprising the amount of people that are not aware of this issue. I love using pixlr and it is very simple to use for the most part.

3D Modelling

Posted by Labaron Gunter in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 8:36 am

3D Modeling is a fun project and what it is is building a 3D model basically and then we can choose to print a 3D image and the goal is to learn something new and have fun and make a cool design. I didn’t hope to learn anything I just wanted to make a 3D design. So, first I started to work in a clario website then decided to switch because I couldn’t figure it out. Then, I looked up tutorials for tinkercad and figured out how to make my design. My only failure was working in the other website. I didn’t learn a lot because I took a 3D modelling class in 9th grade. I learned that if I set my mind to anything I can get it done. I would fix my design if I could redo my project because the print came out bad because of that. My only tip is to have fun. The tool I used helped my ability to convey that you can make anything by me printing and trying something new and doing well at it.

Intro to Computer Science

Myles Nicholson Media & Design Jan. 27, 2017 Ms. Hertz

My project was Computer Science and Intro to Karel my project goals was to get to number 10 of the project but I put my mind into it and I finished the whole Karel thing. What I hoped to learned through the project was how would I be able to use Karel without any help. The steps I went to get through this project was taking my time and thinking. When I got my thoughts together and put my mind to it the project got much easier. The failure I encountered was not trying but how I overcame that was looking at my grades and asking myself is this what I really want my grades to look like, so I sat down and just started to work once I got everything down pack I started to get all the Karel programs done. What I actually learned through the project was how to use coding. What I learned about myself during the project is that I’m lazy but once I start to do my work I can finish all my work. Only way I would do this project over is I would’ve started way earlier. The tip I would give to others is just start it a lot early. This project inspired me to get on my A game and be more serious about my work.

3D Model Car

Posted by Nathan Petrowski in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 1:15 pm

Well my project goal was to make a 3D model of my favorite anime characters mask tokyo_ghoul_kaneki_mask_by_shadow_of_fear16-d9z4c9l (2).pngwhich is right there ← but that ended up being too much of a challenge because I couldn't properly make it or find a file to import the image. So I ended up making a Lamborghini.

So my process was that I started with Clara.io. At first I tried to make it with just the objects you can use in Clara. But then I found out that would be almost impossible to make it out of the objects. So we tried to find a file but it wouldn't work so I ended up finding a Lamborghini file which worked.

So as explained multiple time my failure was that I couldn't get the mask to work what so ever. So the way i worked around this was i pretty much had to do the entire project again. And I ended up with something that wasn't horrible but still wasn't what i originally wanted.

Well i found how to import and export files and run Clara.io the way its supposed to be run.

I would look up what type of files before deciding what to do for my project. Then, I would be able to decide knowing what I can and can’t do. Also I could meet everything when needed.

This project has inspired me to find out how to use 3D modeling on a larger screen.

Well it hindered my ability because of the fact that I couldn't get my mask to work in Clara.io.

Ferrari F80 SuperCar 3d Model

Posted by Jyaire Oconnor in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 1:26 pm

For my Project I did 3d modeling. I came in hoping I could learn a lot about 3d modeling and how I can use it more often on my own accord. My project basically based on my love for cars. S I chose to 3d model a car which happened to be a Ferrari F1 super vehicle. In order to complete my project I watched a numerous amount of tutorials. I first messed around with the tools to get a grip on things after that I started creating my project using script. I ended up learning how to use script to build stuff and also what materials would make 3d models look smoother. I learned that I Am very enthusiastic about 3d modeling due to my actions. Such as building my 3d model in under a week and improving it making it fit my description. If I was to due this project all over again one thing is due differently is not use script and try building it only using the coordinates and materials so basically just from scratch. Well a tip for those who are planning on doing this project if you feel as though the way to create a 3d model is hard remember that there are multiple ways to create a project. This project inspired me to do animation with 3d modeling or the 3d models I made. The tools I used helped deliver my message was clara.io and scripting. This helped me a ton it made my message clear and fun. This was very fast and easy to make it showed my love for cars in a bright and elaborate way.
