Environmental Science PSA

Posted by Ethan Berlenbach in Environmental Science · Aziz · D on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 10:38 pm

The video doesn't truly represent the goals or the information I learned through researching for this project. Between lack of of the members of my group giving our all including myself and lack of certain supplies the goal I had originally set for my group and I, resulted in our video being highly underwhelming. I felt as though that my group did not really give out much leadership effort, leaving me to do most of the planning. I wish we could have gotten more time to work on the project. The most meaningful part of this project was being able to take national research and citywide research and apply it to my every day life and see food waste happening literally all around me.

Environmental Science PSA

Posted by Brian Brown in Environmental Science · Aziz · D on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 9:57 pm

I chose the topic of food waste because I see people waste food and other products of food each and everyday. When people waste food they are not only wasting it when other people don't have food but they are also hurting our environment. Seeing people waste food is just hurtful to see because some people are hungry and some it makes our environment dirty and contributes to global warming. In this project I contributed with ideas and then seeing through other ideas and supporting the video in ways that were needed. I also thought of places for the video to be shot. Event though those clips did not go into the video so you could not see my part, I did contribute to this project. I also think that I did well with understanding and helping my group understand every component to this project.
One thing I could have done better with was communicating with my group so that everyone knew what they were doing and what we wanted the finished project to look like. The most meaningful part of making this PSA was not making it but having the satisfactions of me knowing that I am going to be informing people about food waste and that I am possibly helping save the planet with warning and instructing humans the harm they are doing to our planet.

  1. Reflection:

    1. Provide a summary of the contents of your video and a rationale for why YOU chose this topic, in paragraph form.

  • I chose this topic because In philly has a lot’s of water pollution. The main issue for our project to relate back to this topic, I researched different issues that I thought would inspire me to educate the world on also that similar to what I did with the Dakota Access Pipeline. I decided that I would discuss an issue with something that is more important to our life everyday, which was water. My group and I focused on the Delaware River as it runs through Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The issue of water pollution pertained to me because there are people who do activities in this water such as rowing, and the water which contains toxins, and bacteria can splash on them, and then they often will just get in their car with the wet clothes from rowing, and contaminate their car with bacteria, and they're unaware of it.

    1. Provide a reflection on how you contributed to the project and the role you played in the group.

  • I contributed to the project and the role that I  played in our group was the explaining. Also I helped to make our script and do the organized about problems on the area for that we talking about Delaware river.

    1. What did you do well and what could you have done differently?

  • I am consider to think that what I did well, I believe that I did well with some explanation part of our script. I feel I could have done my video recording  instance, only voice-over because of the camera. I hope that I could spoke well enough and loud in to my voiceover.

    1. What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA?

  • The most meaningful part of the creating the PSA is that I was able to band together with our group of people who have different abilities, as well as learn more about a topic that I would have make over in the news. I hope that the right people come in contact with the video my group members and I created, and learn a lot about it. I was also able to incorporate prior knowledge of water issues into the PSA which made it even the more meaningful for me.

  1. Post the link to your blog on Canvas by the due date and also share in your social media platform of choice!

My Food Waste Project

Posted by Wayne Stackhouse in Environmental Science · Aziz · D on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 9:21 am

The project that we started a while ago was suppose to be on an issue pertaining to some sort of problem and environmental injustice. So the environmental that my group originally chose was food waste. It really was just one person decision and that person didn't even seem like he wanted to do it. But either way that's what he chose and what we all agreed to. We started off working well having all these ideas for the video and script. But of course the way my group was set up I had basketball games to go to, people to got sick cough cough, and people just weren't doing anything and were slacking. We all as a group slacked and we slacked so much that we didn't even finish the damn project which doesn't make any sense  to me what so ever. But I eventually did the project and turned it in by myself. But in a ll reality it's not my best  I just didn't have much time because nobody else would help me so I did my best. But besides that I really enjoyed working on the project and working on final cut pro. My favorite thing was recording even though we didn't do much f that but still it was fun. Therefore, I am grateful for this project because I got to do something that will benefit the environment. In addition to this make people aware of food waste.

What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA?

For the project we chose to do vacant lots and abandoned homes in Philadelphia. Philadelphia is a city with a lot of litter and abandoned homes. I feel that this is a result of environmental injustice. Our video covers the problems with abandon homes and the lots that are filled with trash. We have interviews on how people feel about them and what we can do about them. We all participated in the project I helped with some of the research. When it came to the actual video, I gave the outro to the video and I gave some ideas on how the video played out. I could have gotten more b roll. The video would have been longer and most likely better. But other than that I think the video was good especially the interviews.

Land Pollution PSA

Posted by Md Uddin in Environmental Science · Aziz · D on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:57 am

The land pollution is one of the most high rated land pollution in the United State, According the United Nations, the United States disposes more than half of its solid waste in landfills. ... In 2008, the United States produced more than 250 million tons of municipal solid waste. So we came up with a PSA to help others what will happen if hey throw their trash on the ground instead on putting on there suppose be. My contributed to the group was recording and directing the PSA or you could call it "Cameraman" and I played a important role in this group because I played two role and it was filming the video and directing the filming. We did well on showing people why they should not dumping stuff anywhere they want to instead of putting it on place and We could of re-do one of the video clip from our project because it wasn't best enough to be on the video but we run out of time and we couldn't have enough time to re-do it. The most meaningful part of this project was, showing people that this is not right and being wrong is not what good peoples do, you can still make difference in this society, do what's right recommend others around you because after all this is our world we have to take care of it.

Stop Illegal Waste Dumping - PSA

Posted by Errion Holness in Environmental Science · Aziz · D on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 11:45 pm

Our video includes Inquiry, Research and Action! It begins with the 2 girls in the beginning noticing how the random mattresses are dumped in random places. Next, the guy is sort of reflecting on how there needs to be action, then, proceeds to research a way to remove the junk. Lastly, the young lady (me) proceeds to you should be looking for aka the signs of Illegal waste dumping. In our group, I helped a lot in structure and organization. I also recorded and edited a good portion of the video. I think that I did well with I could have edited the video better and added better, clearer scenes with subtitles. I liked our brainstorming sessions on what we could do to depict our topic. I also liked actually recording scenes and collaborating.

PSA Video and Reflection

Posted by Troy Taylor in Environmental Science · Aziz · D on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 11:35 pm

Before beginning this PSA project and after reflecting on what true environmental justice is, I was very excited to explore in depth how we as humans affect the earth and how we can make it a better place. In the end, we all have to share it and even the smallest bit of pollution adds to the whirlpool of filth that is flooding our planet. When beginning to develop an idea for the direction of the public service announcement, it was crucial that we addressed a subject matter that does a few things. First, that it affects our community immediately and directly. Individuals are more likely to respond and understand if they can connect their life to the problem at hand. Second, that the content and subject of the PSA is interesting. The last thing any of us wants is to sit through yet another boring informational video. After thorough discussion on the topic of the video, we decided to inform the masses about abandoned homes and vacant lots on the city of Philadelphia. As a member of this group along side my partners, I was mainly responsible for  researching different statistics and analyzing the causes and effects on abandoned homes. Much of this research was included in the final product. While working on this project, I may have been able to communicate with my group members a bit better. There are many ideas and things that we may have been able to do had I opened my mouth more. In all, this entire process was very good and enriching. It was very eye-opening to see the statistics of abandoned homes and vacant lots and know that as a student and teenager, there isn't much I can do to help the problem.

Illegal waste dumping

Posted by Lucia Idriss in Environmental Science · Aziz · D on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 10:49 pm

This unit in Environmental Science we spoke highly about pollution and how it affects we as human being and also the earth. I found this to be a very interesting topic because it was almost as if we were living in our own filth, and who wants to do that? With new chemicals and waste always polluting our environment there was almost no way to really clean it. I recently stumbled across a geographical image of the earth, from 1975 compared to 2013, The difference was shocking to see how much we were killing Mother earth, and by killing the earth we were killing ourselves. Which inspired us to choose the topic of Illegal waste dumping to reduce our geographic footprint. My group and I researched several of examples we could use to create a video that would really inspire those around us to stop illegally dumping waste around the city because not only does it make our city look disgusting but it also pollutes the air we breathe and the water we drink. I contributed to my group by finding the articles to really hit home with an idea, I also gave input about the script and how we should act out each scene so that it would sound more believable and less as a commercial. I believe as a group we worked together well even when we has a little miss communication, I think we as a group could have worked on our editing a lot more. video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnPWFQtlBFU

Vacant Lot PSA

Posted by Olamide Soyinka in Environmental Science · Aziz · D on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 10:40 pm

My Vacant PSA contains a series of interviews, important information and statistics. The interviews are focused on peoples previous knowledge about the vacant lots and abandoned homes, emotions about certain statistics around the topic, and solutions that they think could be implemented. For the research aspect of the project, I wasn't crucial nor helpful to be honest. On the other hand for the actual production of the video I felt as if I was as much of a crucial piece to the project like my group members were. When I edited this video I really liked how I went about doing it and the amount of time I invested into editing it. I would've liked to actually start filming earlier than when we did because we assumed that we couldn't do jack squat without actually getting film of lots and abandoned homes so we spent the squandered the first week twittling our thumbs. If we started early some of the more creative time consuming ideas could've been worked into the video. As stated before I really enjoyed editing the video for some odd reason.
