Reflection: While I worked on this project with my peers. I thought about how many people in my own city got badly affected by lead and it deeply saddened me. https://padlet.com/ratkins20/8ciifzpp1mni

I was appalled by the lack of enforced regulation with this issue in Philadelphia. I had no idea that something this horrible was going on right under our noses and nobody seemed to care. What really made me angry was that this was mostly affecting low-income neighborhoods because it basically says that they are not important and their lives and future aren’t either. I am disgusted by this and something needs to be done immediately!

In our research in studying Strawberry Mansion High School, we found out that the high school needs serious repairs for the students to have a safe school that will not cause any health problems. By looking at the reporting of the school it showed that there are above average reports about the lead in the paint affecting classrooms in which includes pipes that were always affected by the spread of the lead. For example, on the website, the water in the fountain was affected by lead in which affected the students that would usually drink from the fountains. I still wonder about the other schools that might have these same problems and what the school district is doing about the spread of lead before it affects a wide range of kids in schools.

What stood out to me the most is the situation in general. Lead poisoning is a huge issue right now in Philly. The real problem is that the issue is not being confronted at all. What I am wondering is why is this story not as popular right now? Children’s live are threatened.

The earths system affect each other because the atmosphere give the geosphere heat and and energy that it need to breakdown. Some efforts that we can make to create a sustainable future is actually start using our OWN resources. We could start making our own clothes and actually make people aware. My reaction to this is excited because Im learning new things about something that I use everyday.

Earth systems affect each other because the geosphere reflects the sun’s energy back into the atmosphere. The biosphere receives gases, heat, and sunlight, energy from the atmosphere.

We can recycle more and we can take more caution when we throw things away.

The four earth systems, lithosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, and atmosphere affect one another in different ways. The subsystems interact with each other and the biosphere, they work together to influence the climate, and triggered geological processes and affect life all over Earth. However in fashion, the four spheres of the earth are connected between each other so, when one is affected, the consequences are also felt by the others. When clothes are being created in factories it creates the amount of carbon dioxide we put into the atmosphere b burning fossil fuels and through deforestation.

To have a sustainable future that well desire we have to work together and do better for the community and for the environment. With that being said, we have to recycle more, use less plastic materials, stop buying leather accessories or anything having to do with leather. We should make better choices than to throw things out on the street and we need to plant more trees to save the planet. I was shocked to see how much the fashion industry has affected the atmosphere but I also wasn’t that surprised at the local brands that have sustainable clothing for sale.

In this quarter we learned about what we do to affect the earth and explored ways we could help. Our benchmark was to pick an industry and make a sustainable business that could be eco-friendly. My group chose the food industry since it had a huge impact on the earth, however, we had to focus on a specific part of the food industry since it was such a broad topic. We created a bakery that would focus on using its own materials that would be friendly to the environment instead of harming it. The food industry impacts all of the earth’s spheres, for example, the production of food releases harmful chemicals and CO2 into the atmosphere which is a factor of climate change. Each sphere affects one another since they are all connected, if the atmosphere is harmed then it could also harm the biosphere or any other. We need to make more sustainable choices and it can be the smallest thing to help the environment like supporting organizations that are creating more sustainable options for people to choose from.
