Environmental Mini PSA

  1. Provide a summary of the contents of your video and a rationale for why YOU chose this topic, in paragraph form.

What did you do well and what could you have done differently?

What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA?

My video has a demo of how to care for your home so you don’t get mold and what can happen if you’re around mold for too long. I think it is important for everyone to have a nice home to live in and how to care for your house if it ever gets to that point . A lot of people aren’t able to afford a profession clean so using vinegar, a household item, is super easy. It’s easy for SAHP to clean up mold since it has to sit after you apply it. I personally had mold and learned that vinegar helps clear it up.

I think I did the video well, but I think I shouldn’t have procrastinated so much.

I think the meaningful part is educating people and keeping everyone healthy.

Water Contamination PSA by Ahzra Blackwell

In my group’s PSA we discussed water contamination through the knowledge of three people in different fields that connect with each other. The PSA explained how water contamination happens, why it happens, its effects on biotic factors, the leading cause of it in Philadelphia, and ways to make the water safer. I chose this topic because water is a big part of everyday life for everyone. I know water is a very important asset to life so the great amount of contaminated water scared me.

In more detail water contamination happens when more chemicals get into the water than usual and the water becomes more acidic. Stormwater drains are where water contamination comes from the most in Philadelphia which happens due to the drains having toxins and trash enter them, specifically pet waste and leftover paint. Many species are affected by water contamination, one being marine life and water acidification. Humans can get gastrointestinal illnesses such as vomiting, diarrhea and cramps. Some of the ways to help resolve the issue include: practicing water conservation, reducing plastic waste, throwing away trash, and taking jogs/walking.

I think that I participated well but, since I’m involved in school activities I had to miss out on helping my group for task one due to the due dates. There were two main meaningful parts of creating the PSA to me. The first part was learning about the effects water contamination has on biotic factors because I am one myself and so are the people and animals I love. When finding out about the ways I can reduce water contamination I began wanting to partake in activities I haven’t done before for not only mine but everyone’s future. The second part was doing it with my friends. Actually recording the PSA with my friends has been a great experience for me because we didn’t only learn but had fun doing it which made the experience both meaningful and memorable.

Lead Poisoning PSA by Jahad Marable

Our PSA about lead poisoning starts with a picture of the city skyline and background music to show how serious the issue is. It talks about how lead poisoning can be prevented and shares stories of affected families and communities. I picked this subject because I know it’s really important in Philadelphia. After learning a bit about lead poisoning, I got even more curious to learn more about it.

The PSA effectively raises awareness about lead poisoning by using calls to action, human stories, and facts. Adding expert opinions and testimonials makes the message more credible and emotional. However, including more images would help draw in viewers and highlight key points. To enhance the impact of the call to action, specific steps to combat lead poisoning should be outlined beyond just getting tested and treated. When I think about my own experience, I remember when they found lead in the paint of my old middle school building during an inspection. Because of that, they had to close the school temporarily while they fixed the problem.

Waste Management

My PSA is about Waste management I give vocabulary words, fun facts, and ways to better waste management. I chose this topic because I feel like it’s pretty similar to what we’ve been learning about pollution. What I thought I did well was my ways to improve waste management. What I could’ve done better was to find a way to put my recording into my slides. The meaningful part of this experience was refreshing and gaining knowledge on waste management.

Waste Management PSA (1)

Food Deserts

My PSA for food deserts focuses on the effects of food deserts and what can be done to stop them as well as some other information about them and examples of what they do to people.I chose this topic because I think its so so important for the people living in Philadelphia regardless of their economic status or area they live in. to have access to healthy and fresh produce in order to have a balanced and well nutritionalized life. I feel that I did well with the information given in this project. the most meaningful part of this project for me was researching the reason of Philadelphia that are considered a food Desert and why they are considered food deserts, this project has given me so much new insight about food insecurities and why its important to help fight for equality and inclusion when it comes to fresh food access for people in Philadelphia.

Oil Spills- Miller

Our video includes not only visuals for what can happen to a community after an oil spill, but also firsthand accounts from people affected by them. I chose this topic because it is something I had researched in the past and I feel it speaks to me and my future professions, seeing as how many times, animals are the most affected by oil spills. I think adding interviews and live footage made it seem much more personal, I just wish we had filmed a bit more of the rest of the group.

Food insecurity

The reason why we chose food insecurity is because we noticed that it is a very big issue. We felt as though it didn’t get enough attention and we made it our goal to shed light on it. In the video, we gave a definition of what food insecurity is, how It affects people, and also what regions of Philly It affects. We also tried to give it a light-hearted spin so that way it didn’t seem too dull and boring.

What we did well was give good definitions and make it entertaining. What I feel like we could’ve done differently was go a little more in-depth with what we were talking about but other than that I would say it came out pretty good.

I would say doing the research behind it only because you really have to know what you’re talking about. It was also really fun but we had to do a lot of organizing because some days certain people weren’t there and it made it more difficult

Oil Spills PSA

Summary: This video is meant to be used a direct message to our government and politicians. We use this video to present the issue of Oil Spills and how the affect our livelihood along with the ecosystem. We chose this topic because in order to have a healthy life we must have healthy water, without water we will not survive and as this threat of oil spills grows, now is the perfect time to present this issue to a broader scale. We show the real life affects of oil spills, an interview with a man who lives in a coastal town where oil spills have decremented his way of life, and we show the horrific sight of how animals are endangered by these spills.

What did you do well and what could you have done differently?

I believe that we were able to bring together a good amount of ideas and it was easy to collaborate and make a successful idea, I wish we would’ve had better communication and timeliness on completing checkpoints

What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA?

Realizing that this is probably the last video that I will make in high school and this issue is a part of my future life so I want to create a video that showed I truly care about my future and how it needs to be changed so that I can enjoy it along with the people besides me

Oil Spills

Reflection: The contents of this video contain what oil spills are and why they are bad, not only to us but for our oceans as well. The reason we chose this topic was because we thought it would be nice to highlight an issue that we don’t hear often enough. I think what we could’ve done differently was adding a little bit more information. I think the most meaningful part about this experience was us filming this, I personally had fun doing it.

^ link to our PSA video

I chose this topic because I recognize its importance in Philadelphia. With some prior understanding of lead poisoning, I felt more interested to dive deeper. Reflecting on my own experience, I remember the discovery of lead in the paint of my old middle school building during an inspection, which lead to a temporary closure while the issue was being handled. In our project, our goal was to effectively communicate the importance of lead poisoning, using creativity to show how it affects families. looking back, I think that our video presentation could have used more loud and clear speaking. I think the most meaningful part of creating our PSA, was creating resource page at the end, It felt like we were really helping people by giving them somewhere to turn for more info and support.

Environmental justice PSA

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ieljTbxhR5Hoh1kNxDT11SZdSRrc-fGm/view?usp=sharing

Our video highlights the importance of properly managing your waste and the negative effect it will have on the ecosystem if you don’t. We chose this topic because it’s something that a lot of people lack knowledge on and they don’t consider the effects it has on people. We also felt like it would be the easiest thing to make a video on. Somethings we could’ve done better was stick to our original idea of our video. Due to a lack of time we messed up at the end and our video no longer makes sense from start to finish.

Water contamination

My video is related to water contamination which is basically the presence of harmful or undesirable substances in water, mainly affecting humans. This may be called a contaminant; such as chemicals, organic substances, microorganisms or other substances that may pose a health risk or environmental damage. Contaminated water can come from a variety of sources, including industrial processes, agricultural runoff, improper waste disposal, and natural geological phenomena. This topic was chosen basically because water contamination is a problem that is almost everywhere in the world and if we do not remedy it, plants, animals and humans will not survive in the future.

I can say that the choice of the subject and its realization was a good job. If I had to change I would change the script.

The discovery of all the damage that water contamination can cause was the most meaningful part.

PSA

In our video we talk about how air pollution is affecting our atmosphere and climate. As well discuss the factors that make the air pollution occur. We chose this topic due to prior knowledge. I feel like I could of done better on the script for the video so there could of been more info provided, I would say the most meaningful part was making the video itself.

Environmental Mini PSA

Provide a summary of the contents of your video and a rationale for why YOU chose this topic, in paragraph form. - The Philadelphia PSA on lead poisoning opens with a image of the city skyline and background music, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation right away. The story highlights how common lead poisoning is and how easily it can be avoided by highlighting the impacted families and communities. Expert research from Jahad highlights the causes and effects of lead exposure, and interviews with those affected, like Sa’d and A’aniyah, offer a firsthand account of the psychological and financial costs. Testimonials from a medical practitioner and a concerned citizen emphasize the need of awareness and action. The PSA ends with a call to action, offering resources for assistance and prevention and imploring viewers to join the fight against lead poisoning. The relevance of lead poisoning as a public health issue impacting many families—especially in older metropolitan neighborhoods where lead paint and tainted water pipes are common—led to the decision to focus on the issue in Philadelphia. The subject was chosen to make viewers aware of how serious the problem is and to give them the tools they need to take action to safeguard their communities and themselves.

What did you do well and what could you have done differently? - The PSA uses a compelling mix of calls to action, human tales, and factual information to effectively raise awareness about lead poisoning. The message gains credibility and emotional impact when it incorporates expert opinion and testimonials. Still, the PSA need to have used more images to draw in viewers and emphasize important ideas. The impact of the call to action could also be increased by outlining specific steps viewers can take to combat lead poisoning outside of getting tested and treated.

What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA? - Hearing directly from those affected by lead poisoning and knowing that the message might help stop others from going through similar struggles made crafting the PSA the most meaningful aspect of the process. It was also immensely satisfying to work with specialists and activists to raise awareness of a crucial public health issue and rally support for reform. In the end, the event demonstrated the effectiveness of community involvement and storytelling in tackling pressing health issues.

Final Submission: Environmental Justice PSA

Reflection: Provide a summary of the contents of your video and a rationale for why YOU chose this topic, in paragraph form. In my video, I discussed why some people lack healthy food options and how this affects them. I chose this topic because it’s important for everyone to understand and help fix the lack of food.

What did you do well, and what could you have done differently? Something that went well was the teamwork and how there were barely any distractions, which got the work down. Something we could have down better:nothing everything went smoothly and as planned

What was the most meaningful part of creating the PSA? Honestly, looking and researching what most kids around us eat/rely on is unhealthy. Prsenatation:https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1pSCb4rj88vdoaBQu6N6EF5auY0DAXQCfTHkrHLsUWF8/edit?usp=sharing (video link on the slides)

PSA On Food Insecurity

This topic was the most interesting to me as it’s something rarely talked about and I felt more awareness should be shared to let people know what they’re putting in themselves daily and why they feel the way they do. Students may look at the school lunches as normal and nothing more, or even rely on them sometimes, but a lot of them don’t realize the harm they are doing to their bodies. This PSA is to help the youth make better and healthier choices guiding their eating habits in the right direction because there’s always good sustainable food available. I think we did well with our videos giving real life examples and the information we gathered. The most meaningful part was explaining the benefits of eating healthy and why it’s important in the long run. Each day we could help ourselves just with this minor switch in lifestyle for a much better one.

Chemical Spills PSA

In our groups PSA video, we choose to depict a student drinking ‘contaminated water’ and the effects of it. I wanted to do chemical spills because something actually happened near Philadelphia, in Bucks County recently. There was a chemical spill of water based Latex solution because of a pipe breaking in the Bristol township. I feel like chemical spills is one of those big money issues, something everyday people only care about if it directly affects them. Truth be told, everyone should give some type of hell about chemical spills because they should want everyone, be it plant animal or humanoid to be healthy.

I feel like I did well staying on top of check points throughout this project and looking things over. I could have acted in the actual video more, but we got our point across without that so that’s great.

The most meaningful part of this project to me was actually seeing the production of the video and how it came out. I know it's just a school project but maybe someone in school will see this and when their older they'll try to stop chemical spills or learn how to properly react in such a situation.

PSA-Food Insecurity

Our PSA is brief but provides the audience with the information necessary. First, it provides a visual image of the impacts of food insecurity to resonate with the audience. Then it describes food insecurity and some circumstances of food insecure communities. Lastly, it offers some solutions to food insecurity.

Something well done in the PSA was capturing the audience’s attention in the opening seconds. Something that could be done better was adding an engaging outro to the PSA and making the video longer.

The most meaningful part of the PSA was the solution ideas provided to aid in stopping food insecurities because it suggest to the audience steps they can take together to end this environmental justice issue.

PSA - Food Insecurity

My video showcases the problems of food insecurity. Our video has 2 kids and a mom dealing with food insecurity. The mom is trying to devise solutions for the community and her children. The mom starts talking to a politician and trying to find ways on how they can provide more for the community. I chose this topic because we have a food shortage in my community. My mom has to drive more than 3 miles just to get any kind of healthy food for our family to eat.

I think our time management could’ve been better. Something I think we did well was when we recorded we were very focused.

The most meaningful part of the PSA is how it spreads awareness of food insecurity and the different ways we can decrease food insecurity.

Food Insecurity

My PSA highlights food insecurity in Philadelphia, showing its impact on health and the environment. It calls for support for local initiatives to address this issue, emphasizing its importance for human well-being and environmental sustainability. I chose this topic because food insecurity is vital to address because it affects human health, exacerbates poverty, and disrupts ecosystems. Understanding it fosters empathy, drives action for social justice, and promotes sustainable food systems for a healthier future.

Something I would do differently is make my video more visually appealing

The most meaningful part was learning the severity of this issue in our community and seeing so many non profit organizations that work everyday to spread awareness to the problem and help our community and people through this issue

PSA on Food insecurity

I think what we did well was explaining a lot of the healthy foods as well as the unhealthy foods and comparing the two. We could’ve gotten more footage however I think we’ll still get our point across on sustainable diets for students. The most meaningful part for creating the PSA was talking about the benefits to eating healthy and how much it can help you mentally and physically.

Excessive heat in homes

In this video, we talked about heat islands. They form around homes with a lot of sunshine and not a lot of trees. This is important because most of Philadelphia itself is a heat island. I picked this topic because excessive heat isn’t talked about enough and can be very dangerous. During the Summer, without air conditioning, and central air houses can be above outside temperatures. My group members also live in areas of Philadelphia without a lot of tree coverage.

I think something that could have been different if we could have shown how little to no trees in our neighborhoods. That would have been more visually pleasing to the reader to understand how that effect houses.

The most meaningful part of the video is explaining what things you could do to prevent excessive heat.

Zarway Kar

Reflection: Provide a summary of the contents of your video and a rationale for why YOU chose this topic, in paragraph form.

My video showcases the problems surrounding pollution and in the video, it’s me drinking water that is polluted, in which I die. Then, you will see that there are balloons being sent up in the air, in memory of me. There is a news reporter that talks about the harmful effects of chemicals in the water. In the video, a turtle eats one of the papers on the ground and dies from it. I chose this topic because I needed to address the importance of water pollution and the negative effects that it has on the people and the environment. People need to know the importance of it so that they can be cautious and to know the effects of it.

What did you do well and what could you have done differently?

I felt like I was able to describe the effects of water pollution clearly and how to avoid the dangerous/ poisonous pesticides in the water. I was able to portray what happens if you drink polluted water. The thing that I could have done differently is to provide more examples of what happens if you drink polluted water.

What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA?

The most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA was making a video about water pollution and the malicious outcomes of drinking water with pesticides with it.

The Video on Water Pollution:

PSA-Chemical Spills

Our PSA begins by showcasing several lush and flourishing environments while a charming Narrator talks about the dangers of chemical spills. Then The video shows an example of what drinking contaminated water can do to a person. Afterwards the video displays several harmful chemical spills and their effect on the environment.

I’m not entirely sure why we chose this topic because I was absent that day.

My favorite part of the PSA was storyboarding and planning what it would look like.

The most meaningful part was the video itself
