PSA-Chemical Spills

Our PSA begins by showcasing several lush and flourishing environments while a charming Narrator talks about the dangers of chemical spills. Then The video shows an example of what drinking contaminated water can do to a person. Afterwards the video displays several harmful chemical spills and their effect on the environment.

I’m not entirely sure why we chose this topic because I was absent that day.

My favorite part of the PSA was storyboarding and planning what it would look like.

The most meaningful part was the video itself

Waste Management

My PSA (Public Service Announcement) is around Waste Management. My goal is to promot waste control around the globe because it is something countries other than the United States severly suffer from. I chose this topic because I don’t really like trash, and I realized that as I’ve done reasearch for this project, and gotten older, monitoring things that could potentially harm our Earth has become top priority.

Something I could have done differently for this project was actually showing my face in my PSA, and focusing on uncontrolled Waste in Philadelphia instead of aroud the globe. I also regret not being able to put in clips and images of waste here in Philadelphia so the problem can feel real to Philadelphia’s residents.

The most meaningful part of my PSA creating process was how smoothly it went. Ironically, it is the end of the year, and also the first and likely last project that was easygoing and manageable all year.

Below is my PSA link to video:

Gabrielle Robinson PSA

Our video starts with 2 kids that don’t have any food or money and can’t reach their mom because she’s not at home. The the mom comes home and tells the kids and audience that she has a plan to fix food insecurity. My group chose this topic because it is an issue that is very common in the communities of Philadelphia. I contributed ideas to my group but i feel like i could always be a more active member. The most meaning part of our PSA is the message that it spreads about how food insecurity is a serious issue that needs fixing.

PSA-Food Insecurity

Within our short PSA we showcase a series of things. We show the dark side to food insecurity, a spark of ideas to help this issue and we explain how our solution will work. Personally, I chose food insecurity as my topic because I feel like that’s the most relevant issue I see in america as a whole and I feel like it needs more attention.

I think something that I did well was explain food insecurity and handle the editing on the video.

The most meaningful part was collecting the data about food insecurity and how it affects a community.

Chemical Spills PSA

Our video starts with fish doing their daily things and then getting affected by an oil spill, basically showing how our environment is being destroyed. Then we continued to show and explain that we live in a beautiful world of life and what is being done to it. Next, the video mentions how if we don’t take care of this problem it could lead human life to be something no one wants to live in… a horror story. I chose this topic because I think many people overlook that those worldwide don’t have access to clean water. Everyone should have access to clean water regardless of class, race, etc, it’s a basic human necessity. What I really enjoyed about making this PSA was doing the research and learning more about the problems many citizens face on a daily basis especially how hard they have to work in order to find water.

Alex Zajko - chemical spills

Our video starts with showing the environment as our home. Then it shows and talks about the effects of oil or chemical spills, including the mess left in waterways as well as an acted out scene of someone being poisoned from the water. It ends with showing how the chemicals are being cleaned up as well as a warning for the future. I chose this topic because I feel that it is not talked about as much as some other environmental justice issues. I think I edited our video pretty well. Maybe we could have had more acting scenes. The most meaningful part of creating this PSA is to advocate for chemical spills (or other pollution) that is affecting our waterways.

Excessive Heat in Homes

In this video, we talked about heat islands. They form around homes with a lot of sunshine and not a lot of trees. This is important because most of Philadelphia itself is a heat island. I picked this topic because of my own experience living in a heat island. During the Summer, without air conditioning, my house can be just as hot as outside. My group members also live in areas of Philadelphia without a lot of tree coverage.

I think something that could have been different if we could have shown where we lived and how little to no trees there are that would make our house overheated during really hot and sunny days. That would have been more visually pleasing to the reader to understand how that works.

The most meaningful part of the video is explaining what things you could do to keep yourself cool.

Air Pollution

In this video, I explained what air pollution is, showed how it affects people, and also gave some facts on air pollution.

What I did well to me is explain what air pollution was and make the video appealing. What I could have done differently is probably make the video longer and talk slower

I would say being creative and still giving information at the same time

Waste management PSA

  1. The main topic of our video is all the harm that comes from simple things like littering which it normalised because people do not know its consequences. We show how a small piece of trash has a huge impact on animals, humans, plants, and water as well. We chose this topic because waste is a serious issue at our school, with many students throwing trash outside in the grass or just in the street. Many of them do not know that protecting the environment is necessary in daily life.

  2. I think the best thing we did was our story in general since it is creative and will keep the viewers entertained. We could have recorded some parts differently by choosing better times to film.

  3. the most meaningful part about this PSA is targeting the young generation so that they can make our earth better and that is why we focused on relating the video to school

Lead Poisoning PSA by Christina Miller

I chose to do lead exposure/lead posing because it is a growing issue in Philadelphia. Our video shows some symptoms of lead poisoning and shows the areas where lead exposure is most common. What did you do well and what could you have done differently? I think we could have tried to plan out how we were going to show the symptoms of lead poisoning. What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA? The most meaningful part of making this PSA was to think about how we could inform people and the government.

Lead Exposure PSA Julianna Doroba

  • In this video, I explain what lead Exposure is and how it affects the environment and humans. I chose this because it’s still a huge issue, not only in the United States, but globally too.
  • I think that the editing was pretty good. I wish that I spoke a little bit slower.
  • The most meaningful part of this PSA was getting the message across and how dangerous it actually is.

PSA reflection

Provide a summary of the contents of your video and a rationale for why YOU chose this topic, in paragraph form. Our psa is to show that foods you are eating may not always be the best for you without you even realizing. The foods that are provided such as school foods can either be very good for you like the salads or not the best such as the “burgers”. If you realize and eat better foods you will feel better.

What did you do well and what could you have done differently? I think what we did well with was portraying how well the salad was good for you as in a healthy relationship with someone and then the burger was in a toxic relationship. Something we could have done differently was making it longer and more to it. I think we were limited to filming because we were only allowed to get the school lunches during lunch time and not everyone was available.
What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA? The most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA was to being awareness to your health.

PSA Reflection

Provide a summary of the contents of your video and a rationale for why YOU chose this topic, in paragraph form. Food you might be eating may not be the best option for you, our psa goes to show that the foods provided by our school like the salads, are an healthier option, but other foods provided might not be the best. What did you do well and what could you have done differently? we were limited when filming, we lacked resources, we could of made it longer. What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA? bring awareness to your health

Angelina-Water Pollution

Provide a summary of the contents of your video and a rationale for why YOU chose this topic, in paragraph form.

We did a video about a person passing away. After loved ones found out thuy did a balloon release. The balloons later on ended up in the ocean. A turtle found it thinking it was food but ended up passing away from eating the balloon. I choose this topic because it’s important that we keep our water clean because everyone needs it.

What did you do well and what could you have done differently?

We did well with our lines. We could have shown different ways to prevent water pollution instead of saying it.

What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA?

Letting people know why polluting water is bad.

Waste Management

This video emphasizes the pivotal role of waste management in promoting environmental sustainability. It advocates for individual responsibility through the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, highlighting the importance of conscious consumption and proper disposal methods. Furthermore, it underscores the need for education and collaboration among various stakeholders to effect systemic change. The passage also stresses the significance of governmental policies, business initiatives, and technological innovation in advancing waste management practices towards a circular economy. Probably would’ve changed the voiceover. It would probably be the convincing public part.

What value do we see in the biodiversity and natural resources of the earth?

The Earth’s biodiversity and natural resources are super important because they provide many benefits for humanity. They provide essential ecological services, such as pollination and water purification, while also offering economic benefits through resources.

What human actions are associated with altering Earth’s natural systems?

Human activities have had a huge impact on Earth’s natural systems, precipitating environmental degradation and biodiversity loss. Deforestation for agricultural expansion, industrial and agricultural pollution, overexploitation of resources, and the emission of greenhouse gases

How can individuals, communities, and or nations live more sustainably?

Embracing sustainability requires a multifaceted approach at the human population and national levels. It necessitates conscientious consumption practices, advocating for conservation initiatives and protected areas, adopting sustainable agricultural techniques, environmental advocacy, policy reforms to prioritize sustainability, and fostering collaborative efforts to address environmental challenges.

How did this project deepen your understanding of sustainability?

This project made me research a topic which gave me a better understanding as to what it is. I had to look at the pros and cons of different methods and benefits that come with this topic and I now understand why transportation isn’t sustainable.

What information about your chosen industry surprised you most? Why?

The information that surprised me the most was how easy it would be to come up with a sustainable way to keep transportation yet there haven’t been any major changes made by any officials.

How did you contribute to your group’s project? Provide specific examples. What were you proud of, in terms of your overall project?

I contributed a lot to the group’s work, especially for the checkpoints. I did a lot of the research and I came up with the plan to use the solar panels and make a car brand. I also set up the slides.

Essential Questions

The value in the biodiversity and the natural resources of the earth is the sustainability of the earth through their unique and varying means. Human actions like deforestation and overexploitation alter the earth’s natural systems. People can live more sustainably by watching our impact on the environment and learning to live with it rather than take from it.

Reflection Questions

This project helped me understand a little more about the issue regarding waste. Nothing in particular really surprised me. I helped in gathering the beginning information for our project like the groups we chose to mention and refining our ideas like our dreams and goals.
