For my Senior capstone, I want to create and implement a year-long girls soccer practice because I want to make a change in my Sudanese community. This initiative would be a Sudanese girls version of Starfinder, a soccer-based youth development program that I have been part of for the past four years. Playing soccer, and being part of Starfinder has had a big impact on my life, and I would like to pass what I have learned onto other girls in my community. I am a soccer girl and I have been that way for most of my life. However, I am one of the very few Sudanese girls that actively plays soccer all year long. I want more girls to have the same opportunity to play and benefit from the sport the way that I have.
To successfully complete this project, I have the help of my best friend, Razan. She is also a Sudanese American girl who plays soccer for her high school team. My goals for this project are to teach young girls the discipline and life skills that can be learned through soccer, and most importantly, how to have fun! Through this project I realized that it took a number of people to make things happen; to make a change. I also learned that there should be alternatives if something doesn't go the right way. Overall, I feel like I'm close to achieving my goals of teaching my girls how to play soccer.

Zack Waxler Capstone

For my capstone project I decided to use my skills in web design and programming to make a social media website accessible to only SLA students. I got the idea for this project by looking at current websites that serve this function (slabeeber.org blog posts, twitter, instagram, etc.), and noticing that they all have various problems that prevent them from being appealing options to share meaningful content with other students. The blog for example is almost never used aside from teacher’s announcements and mandatory student submissions, and other social media platforms are rarely used for school related purposes. I wanted my website to serve as a middle ground between those two extremes of school related social media. I created the backend of the website using a framework called Express.js along with many plugins, and I created the frontend using HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

Here is a link to the website: http://slabsocial.com

(Note: Only SLA @ Beeber students and faculty will be able to access the majority of the content on the website)

My Capstone is a reflection of my journey through my mental health. I take a look back at my feelings toward school, life, and everything in general. I also reflect on the process that I took to get where I am at today. While doing this project I learned a lot. Not only did I learn a lot about mental health and how to deal with it, but I learned so much about myself as well. I hope you enjoy leaning about my journey just as much as I am grateful for my experiences.

As the year comes to an end I have created a project that is a reflection of myself and my passion for beauty, hair, and makeup. I inspire myself each and everyday to do my best. We are planning on making a Beauty Campaign that showcases that origin does not determine your inner beauty. My team member, William and I plan on furthering our education in the beauty industry. This is something I love to do on my spare time and when I’m at work. The only thing that has changed in my vision about my capstone is the time because the end of the school year is approaching and we needed to hurry up. Will does makeup and I do hair so we both decided to split it up and have a mini photoshoot. We also wanted all of our models to be different races so it could stand out. By doing this I hoped to  not only do I plan to advance in my beauty career but also I plan on being more patient with working with clients and making sure I can do this for the rest of my life. I hope to learn a thing about entrepreneurship and how I can eventually make my own business. I also hope to learn how to be more organized and on time with my work. By the end of this I hope I get to show everyone my talent and how this really means so much to me.

For this capstone project, I created a PowerPoint presentation on the steps to become a veterinarian. I wanted to create a capstone project for this because this was a career that i have inspired to be for years. I have been wanting to be a veterinarian since the age of six years old and it is a career that I still enjoy. With this capstone, I wish to inform people on the profession that I was interested to for so long and it would be an incredible thing to at least get people to consider doing something like this as their future career. Convincing someone to become a veterinarian would be amazing to do because that is exactly what I want to achieve. Throughout my presentation, I tried to give some of the simplest of steps to help guide someone that would like to become a veterinarian. If I can not do that, then I simply wish to inform others about my and possibly other people’s career choice to hold respect for them as others would respect different types of career choices and future professions. I have tried to thoroughly experience the steps from the course to take to how to possibly opt out of it if they want to. After this project, I feel like this research has became a refresher. The reason why I feel this way is because I was able to go over information that give me  more things to think about for my future career.

Entering Science Leadership Academy at Beeber in ninth grade was a start of a chapter in my life. In this chapter were laughter, blood, sweat, tears, contentment, and happiness. I am sad to say that this chapter is coming to an end, but before it ends we are given the opportunity to apply what we learned at SLA@Beeber by doing the Capstone Project. At first I didn't know what to do. I changed my Capstone topic three times before coming choosing my topic. My Capstone Project is about stress and how it affects one's mind. I chose stress because it played a major role in my four years of high school; especially during the college process.

To prevent stress for the "soon to be seniors" I presented a powerpoint on "What You Need To Know To Succeed In Your Senior Year". In this presentation, I covered everything from the application process to senioritis. I covered many topics that will come up in their senior year, to have them feel more prepared. I understand that my presentation will not erase all stress because SLA@Beeber has a rigorous curriculum, but I hope my advice could help them make better decisions and by better decisions have a more successful senior year.

Wesley White Capstone

For this senior project, I decided to create a year-long Bible study that includes Bible devotions which viewers who are pastors, teachers, new Christians, or just ordinary people who are interested in the Bible and Christianity, can use to learn more and be encouraged. I met about 5 times with my mentor, Ms. Bentum, who helped me with ideas as to how I can set up each page to present in on the website. I also consulted my parents and youth pastor for inspiration. I learned many important topics throughout the Bible, one of which is being thankful in times of trials. The final product is the actual website, which is easy to use and can be operated by any viewer.
