Drought - Emma Wright

Posted by Emma Wright in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A on Monday, October 4, 2021 at 9:53 pm

Earth systems affect each other in both negative and positive ways, interacting to help the planet run as it should, but also sometimes to cause problems for the environment. If we understand environmental science, we can better understand how to deal with the problems facing our natural world. We can make efforts to learn about these issues, and teach others about them as well.

1. How do the earth systems affect each other? The earth systems are locked in an interacting relationship with each other. Changes in one could cause another to change. For example, the geosphere in a certain area could cause only certain kinds of plants to grow there, plants are in the biosphere. this shows a way that the geo and biospheres can affect each other. To take the analogy further, those plants could also be affected by the hydrosphere, as the amount of water in the area could affect their survival. The atmosphere could affect them as well as the temperature of the region could affect the geosphere, the biosphere, and the hydrosphere. 2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? When we understand environmental science, we understand how the earth works. This means that we can understand the causes of natural disasters and when we understand that, we can learn what steps to take to prevent them. We can also learn how to counteract ones that are already in effect. 3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? In order to create a sustainable future, we can cut down on industries that produce greenhouse gasses, such as farming and manufacturing. We can plant more trees to combat deforestation. We can cut down on our use of things like plastic and recycle more. If we do these things, the future will look much brighter than it does now.

Josh Sidener and Hurricanes

Essential Questions: 1. The earth systems affect each other when matter or energy passes through one to another. For example, this can happen when water vapor evaporates from a lake (hydrosphere) into the atmosphere, and comes back down to the geosphere as rain. Then, the plants in the biosphere absorb it to aid in photosynthesis. 2. An understanding of environmental science is a large part of what allows us to predict natural disasters, which is crucial to handling them. Understanding environmental science also allows us to know what each natural disaster is, which further helps us prepare for it. 3. To make a sustainable future, we need to emit less greenhouse gasses. There are many ways to accomplish this, but in my opinion, the most important thing is for corporations or the government to make efforts. People in power making a change will matter almost infinitely more than a single person creating a change in their lifestyle. The government has the power to create legislature that will greatly affect the amount of greenhouse gas emissions we produce. And many corporations are responsible for massive amounts of emissions as well. Reaction to our findings: Before I researched hurricanes, I thought that they were really complicated and I didn't understand how they worked. Now I understand how the different temperatures interact to create rotation in the atmosphere, and ultimately create a hurricane. I learned to look at the larger ideas instead of trying to vigorously understand every little thing.

1. How do the earth systems affect each other? The earth systems affect each other in many ways since they are all intertwined with one another to make things work. For example, the rain water from the atmosphere goes back into the hydrosphere. From there the atmosphere also transfers energy and heat needed for the geosphere. The hydrosphere also provides nutrients to the living things on earth which are in the biosphere. 2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? Although you cant prevent natural disasters as a whole, having an understanding of environmental science can help by helping you be prepared to deal with whatever comes our way. If that means making safety precautions then so be it. Being informed is always good 3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? Some things we can do is for one use renewable energy. We can help preserve the earths natural resources by doing so. Another thing we can do is eat less meat. Not saying you have to completely cut it out of your diet, but it can greatly help lower greenhouse gas emissions. Lastly we can recycle. As we all know plastic items really take a toll on our earth going into the oceans and many more. By simply recycling we can live a more sustainable lifestyle.

Justin Smith- Natural Disasters

1. How do the earth systems affect each other? Earth systems affect each other by using the species or matter in that earth system to carry out specific functions of all other earth systems. For example, in the geosphere, you need wind, friction, or water to erode the rock that would be there. The atmosphere would be the system that brings wind, friction, and water to erode these rocks in the form of storms or natural disasters. 2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? If we could understand the patterns and how they begin and finish we can create plans to protect ourselves or at least be aware of when one will strike and we can be as prepared as possible. 3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? We can cut back on using things that will pollute the earth and cause eruption of events because of frequent climate change.

1. How do the earth systems affect each other? All earth systems are interconnected to each other meaning something changes in one earth system can eventually cause a change in other systems as well. For example, when the water cycle occurs, the water from the hydrosphere gets evaporates and becomes a part of the atmosphere. Then the waters from the atmosphere return to the geosphere through rains in which soil (geosphere) gets wet and it also goes through the plant’s root(biosphere) and makes the plants alive. If something goes wrong with the evaporation, the whole process of the water cycle wouldn’t occur. 2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? Understanding environmental science is very beneficial in handling natural disasters. Knowing the causes of environmental disasters helps in coming up with a solution to protect the environment and make it safe for living things. For instance, If human interactions cause an issue, they can become aware of the things and avoid those things that would lead to natural disasters. 3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future To create a sustainable future, we can try to avoid the things that are damaging our environment and do more things that are suitable and good for the environment. Things like recycling, saving energy, using renewable energy are ways to create a sustainable environment. I have really enjoyed doing this project, learning interesting things about nature, and working with the group to come up with a visual component. We haven't faced many challenges as every group member well communicated and did what they were supposed to do.

1. How do the earth systems affect each other? The earth systems are interact with each other and also the biosphere they work together to effect the climate, start the geological process and affect all over the earth.2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? I think because we can learn lots of good and bad things about it and this is actually allow us to prepared for any situation in the natural disaster.3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? Maybe like take care of the trees and animals which can make to create a sustainable future.

1). The earth systems affect each other because they are all connected to each other. In some ways, they can help out each other, for example, when it rains the water is helping plants grow. This is the hydrosphere interacting with the biosphere and also the geosphere since plants grow on land. 2). Understanding environmental science can aid us in handling natural disasters because then we can learn how to better prepare ourselves for what's to come next time. Although some are not preventable we can learn and understand how these natural disasters happen and what are some things we can do for ourselves when it happens. 3). As people, we have to understand that in order to have a sustainable future we have to understand that there is a need for change. It starts with us and we have already begun to go paperless, beginning to refuse things that we throw away, and even trying different ways to say energy.

Natural Disasters and Earth Systems

Posted by Isabella Maimone in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A on Monday, October 4, 2021 at 4:05 pm

1. How do the earth systems affect each other? Earth systems affect each other in different ways everyday, the atmosphere brings back rainwater to the hydrosphere. The atmosphere provides the geosphere with heat and energy needed for rock breakdown and erosion. The geosphere, in turn, reflects the sun's energy back into the atmosphere. The biosphere receives gases, heat, and sunlight (energy) from the atmosphere. 2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? Understanding environmental science aid in handling natural disasters can help us prevent them. Knowing why certain things happen in the atmosphere can help us find ways that we affect the earth and what we can do on our end as humans. 3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? There are a lot of little things that would add up quickly if all of us as a society were willing to change. Switching to more sustainable lifestyles can make a big difference. 4. I really enjoyed researching and created a visual component for this project. Although a lot of the ways to prevent natural disasters are well known, I defiantly learned a ton about tornados in particular. THE FILE FOR OUR VIDEO WONT UPLOAD
