IGNITE PRESENTATION

Your high point of the course when it comes to your learning

The high point of this class was the photoshop project because it teached me a lot of new and useful things. It was fun and let my creativity flow which was my favorite part.

An area of growth for you

I think overall my writing and my whole website could be improved. I feel as though, my website looks cluttered and might want to simplify it so that it is more appealing to the eye.

How you have used or could use a skill or technique you learned this year outside of this class

I think I will continue using my website to update and keep whoever is looking at it up to date. I want to use it professionally and educationally in the future for my real portfolio.

An idea you want to pitch for a project for next year's class

I think a good idea would be editing papers online using several apps and seeing how well they worked.

3 tips for anyone taking this class

  • Have fun

  • BE ON TIMe

  • Always get a second opinion

So basically I created a small cafe like thing in my high school “Study Skills” course. The process was pretty simple as I emailed the people I wanted to invite from Miss. Landman’s class and created the three stories to read in front of the class. It was pretty simple as I enjoy writing a lot. Once done I edited it with Ms. Landman. We had snacks and created a cafe-like setting. It was alright I guess.  A few of my peers were there along with reading my creative writing teacher for whom I wrote some of the pieces. After everything was said and done, I got some good feedback.  I didn’t get much from them in terms of improvement so I’m perfectly sure that each of my stories was perfect.

Kelly sits there as she’s been waiting for her nephew to come home sitting under a painting of music notes. She has been dreading to tell him the news, shattered glass is on the living room floor, with the couch bed made, and she is sitting here in tears with candles around the floor. Kelly is falling apart and she has been for weeks but no one even notices what is really going on with her… Tonight is the breaking point she’s going to tell everyone she’s leaving.

Q4 Project

For Q1 I did the website making project. I made a blog site for people to use when they want to post stuff and/or interact with other people.

For Q2 I decided to do video editing so I could get a view on how my peer felt on the Black Lives Matter Movement.

For Q3 I decided to take a picture of two lions and photoshop flowers on them. This is to

make the lions look prettier. I also made the background more colorful and pretty. I think that all

green jungles and natural stuff looks boring and dull so I decided to make it look better. Some

tools I used on this picture is the cutting tool to cut out the flowers and place them where I

wanted, adjusted the size and the paint can to change my background. Pixlr isn’t really the best

App to use in my opinion. It’s not very reliable and doesn’t look neat. This project inspired me to

do 3D modeling next.

I decided to revise my image editing project. The first one I made looked terrible honestly. The goal was to make the lions look really pretty but they turned out looking like a mess. The revised project, I made it neater and more pink. The process was easy revising it, I didn’t really have to do much because I didn't need to remove the picture. This is because I already had a saved version of the picture without the color.

Some Tips would be to be on time, turn in checkpoints, and read over all project descriptions.

Slides 3 & 4:

For this project I decided to do Web Design. For this project I used Weebly, a design tool that people use to create web pages, it gave me the ability to create and move text, images, and headings. The goal for this project was to create a website that was easy for people to use and is designed to show my most proud work to people. This project was successful in my eyes, this is because it shows all my work in a platform that works well and people can see easily.

Slides 6 & 7:

For my Quarter 2 project I decided to do Image editing. This focuses on using web editors to change images so they can make them into whatever they want. I used the tool Pixlr for this because it seemed like the best tool at the time. I ran into many problems while making it, like figuring out what the tools in design menu did. Like here, I didn’t know what the “lasso” tool did, and… well I figured it out.

Slide 8:

Slides 9 & 10:

For last quarter’s project I decided to do Graphic Design. This is a project where you can design a road sign not including any words that displays a message that would be very useful to road users. I also used Pixlr for this project, I used the drawing section of the tool rather than the editing portion. This also included tools that would be useful for what you’re looking for. The sign I decided to make was a “No Skateboarding” sign.

Slides 14 & 15:

The most proud part of this class from this year was the first quarter project being completed. This was the website design project and it was the first time for me designing a website. This was very rewarding to me because Weebly is a good tool that I used and could see a lot of progress. The thing that I’ve most improved upon throughout the year by far has been time management. This has been a problem for me for my whole school career and these checkpoints and tools have greatly impacted this problem for the better. I now know how to design websites and create images for them

Slide 16:

Through the graphic design project I can use the skills I learned of scaling and using tools online to create an image that makes sense. I want to be an engineer when I get older so this will help me in my field.

Slide 17:

Speaking of blueprints, an idea I had for next year’s project for something that’s like graphic design. It has similar elements to the graphic design project, but it has more of an applied goal.

Slide 18:

I’d recommend for anyone taking this class to definitely turn project checkpoints in on time. These do add up and will affect your grade. It’s better just to get them in on time when they’re relatively easy.

Slide 19:

The project checkpoints do help us manage our time. This is the most valuable thing I learned this year. Time management is important to all of our classes and is a valuable life skill.

Slide 20:

The last tip I’d give to anyone taking this class next year is to always try with the work that’s in this class. I know this class is an elective, but it’s still important to get your work in on time and complete it with effort.

For my Capstone, I took the lessons of old philosophers, and apply in a practical way in order to try and learn about myself through their teachings. Through the wisdom of ancient and modern thinkers, I create an introspective dialogue where I understand my own emotions, think critically about my perspective of the world, challenge my old understandings of concepts and reach new ones, or create new opinions about things as abstract as morality or as specific as politics. The consistent theme is my proposed moral responsibility behind pursuing knowledge, and being self aware. I justify these investigations into the self by reason of accountability, something I explore in my writings also. My process began with a new level of attention payed to my passing thoughts. While ideas popped up in my head I would explore them when before I would dismiss them, trying to give reason to them, be they emotions or perspectives, and correct them if I discovered faulty reasoning that I had used because of complacent thinking. This was accompanied by application of research into general rules of life and thinking, ideals, and values proposed by popular intellectuals (Plato, Socrates, etc.). The product is a collection of small essays where I build upon my thoughts and improve them through criticism. Whether I explore past ideas, adopt new stances, or reinforce old ones, it is a practice in self improvement and introspection. The lessons this teaches are varied, but wisdom can't always be inherited.

For my Capstone, I decided to have a music showcase alongside my partner, Mark. The goal was to showcase our talents that we’ve been crafting together for our entire high school career, and long before. We also wanted to give other youth an opportunity to showcase and share their ideas with us in what musicians call a shed. This proved to be a somewhat grueling process. This process included finding a venue, obtaining equipment, tons of practice and rehearsal, and a lot of other detailing and polishing to make the event as successful as possible. The product, turned out to be an extremely enjoyable encounter. Overall, this experience taught me that there is a lot of work that goes into event planning, and every little detail could greatly affect the turnout. For this reason I’m quite happy to have chosen this for my senior Capstone.

Welcome to Haiti.

My name is Elizabeth. I am a young Haitian-American lady. For my capstone, I decided to do something that will help me figure myself out as an individual. I also did this because I wanted to broaden up my knowledge about my culture. I was not born in Haiti, but my father decided to relocate himself to the United States to start a new life for my mother and her two sons at the time. After a year a two without the love of his life, my father was stable enough to bring his wife and two sons to America, so that they can get the better education and opportunities they deserve. Being as though, I was not born in Haiti I wanted to do something that will better help me connect with my culture other than speaking the language, creole, frequently.

There are two parts to this capstone, the first part is a research paper on the country Haiti and my father’s journey to America. The second part is the mini course I taught. In my mini-course, “Welcome to Haiti”, I taught the students games that my parents would play as a child, I taught them basic conversations and numbers 1-10 in Creole and had them listen to Haitian music.

As a kid growing up, my dad used to take me and my brother along with him to help work on the jobs he ran. Most of these jobs usually dealt with carpentry, electrical work, and architectural design of things. After a while I started to like working and building things with my hands. This is the reason I chose to build something for my senior capstone. My senior capstone is an art cabinet. I decided to build this for my capstone because I never  designed, and built something fully on my own. I felt as though this gave me freedom because I didn’t have to ask anyone what to do or how should it look. My senior capstone might sound easy to some people but this is extremely false. My project took approximately 3 months to build. The reason being is because every measurement had to be correct in order for all the different pieces of wood to fit together perfectly. If the measurements was not correct then the integrity of the cabinet would be slightly off. Finally, once everything was well thought out and put together I sanded the wood and placed a fine wood coating on top. The shelves on this cabinet can be moved around to accommodate the appropriate artwork sizes. Overall, it took time, concentration, and patience to create such a good looking completed product. This is an huge accomplishment for myself.

I use this website to see the proper ways to cut the different pieces of wood. This website goes into detail about standard cabinet shelves, the size cabinets should be to accommodate the different weight and etc. Also it gave me ideas on how I should actually keep the wood together, either with wood glue or screws. Since my cabinet was so big I decided to do both.

http://www.aquaearth.co.za/drilling-techniques.html

This website is a website that gives me some basic drilling techniques. It is obvious that this can be very helpful for a person like me who does  not have much experience at all when it comes to actually building or using this equipment. I find it very important to have done this research before beginning the project because this material is not cheap and will not be easy to replace if things are done wrong. So, the use of the tools for the proper way is very iMportant here.

https://www.familyhandyman.com/kitchen/diy-kitchen-cabinets/face-frame-cabinet-building-tips/view-all

This website mostly gave me tips on sanding, wood staining. The tips included that even though with a table saw the pieces of wood can sometimes not be perfect, so the best way to make them most likely the same is to sand them all at the same time. It also was saying that the best way to stain a cabinet was to leave the back off because it is easier to paint an get into all the cracks so that the paint would be as even as possible.

http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/rooms-and-spaces/kitchen/how-to-stain-wood-kitchen-cabinets

This article I used as another source for sanding. This article is very brief it tells you the best type of sander to use so that the stain could stick to the wood as best as possible. Also it tells you that you should sand in the direction of the wood grain for best results.

http://extremehowto.com/cabinet-building-basics-for-diyers/

This article was useful because it gives you different ideas for cabinets. It shows you a plethora of cabinets and the category that they should be in. This is helpful because When building my project I wanted it to be sturdy and easily movable.

http://www.ana-white.com/2013/11/momplex/building-base-cabinets

Even though I did not build a base cabinet this website showed me the tools that I would most likely be needing to built My art Cabinet. Some of these tools include a table saw, jig saw, different grains of sanders, clamps. Also it included the best ways I should clamp the wood down and  screw another piece to it.

Abstract :

For my capstone, I choose to implement a high school student athletic trainer aid program right here at SLA @ Beeber. Sports have been a big part of my life since freshman year and all throughout high school. Though all the great time spent in the gym there was also the hard time to follow including injuries. This helped me realize the importance of athletic trainers as they were the ones that helped me get back on my feet. My final project includes a video of coach King giving one of his lessons to some volunteer and future athletic trainers in a classroom setting, along with other clips of demonstrations to help prevent injuries. This project has really been an eye opening experience for me as I learned a lot through the process. The more I learned about the human body I also gained knowledge on the wide variety of things that the athletic trainer knows. I gained a new appreciation for athletic trainers and learned that they are a viable asset to the medical field and rightfully so. I hope through my project you can gain the same appreciation.

My capstone is a series of sketches drawn in my sketchbook, to try and improve on my technique, and simply explore different ways to draw different things. This was meant to improve/find a different hobby that I felt could relive stress better than doing nothing at all.  The sketches are just that, sketches. Meaning that they aren't the best thing in the world, I was simply trying to improve on and develop another thing I could call a hobby.  A lot if it was just me practicing different techniques, some figure drawings, shading, body parts, etc. There are 3 actual drawings I did to act as checkpoints of sorts. I'm not going to post all of the drawings, only highlights.
