• What is your earliest memory?

Walking through hedges in Costa and eating at this weird restaurant in Costa Rica when I was about 2. The hedges were big and in different shapes. The restaurant was also different than any other I have been to, there were iguanas walking around on the floor and you could feed them some of the food that you were eating if you wanted to.

• Whatʼs the most exciting thing youʼve done?

Gone to smash bros tournament. Everyone there is united by a game and there is a sense of unity in the community which I really like.

• What are the most important lessons youʼve learned in life?

Not everything will be the way you want it to be. There are many times that I want something that I can’t have or something that I want to do that I can’t and it sucks. That’s the most important lesson for me because I always remember past occasions where I notice that I can’t get everything that I want.

1.What do you want to be in life as far as a person or career wise? Why?

"Well, in person I want to be a like, giver. Not so much receive because, a lot of people take stuff for granted when they receive something from people so I want to be someone that can help people a lot and be there for people. Career wise, I want to be the type of person that knows how to do things for themselves and knows how financially and everything and not have to depend on people."

2.As a person, what challenge in your life do you feel was the hardest to overcome and do you feel that is benefited you or negatively affected you?

"Okay, the challenge I think was the hardest to overcome was, when I was 8 I had to make a decision to stay and live with my dad in Virginia rather than stay with my mom who I've been growing up with for my whole life and I think that making that decision to stay with my mom benefited me because if I didn't I couldn't really tell where I would be at. I don't think I would be here and I think that had a lot of affect."

3. Is there anything in your life you would take back? If so, why?

"Something I would take is, I don't want to say who that person is but putting my trust in someone because you have to be delicate with stuff like that because sometimes people will take advantage of you because you really have to learn someone and learn who they are before you can actually say that you trust that person and put your trust in them."

• What is your earliest memory?

My earliest memory is when i found out i was moving into the city. I didn't really know how to feel about this because I loved where we lived and I liked being able to run around and play in the fields but at the same time i thought the city would be exciting and that I would be able to make more friends and have more fun.

• Whatʼs the best thing about being a teenager? The worst?

The best thing about being a teenager is you’re starting to see and become who you are/will be in the future. The worst is you have a lot to deal with and you start to  have to figure how to fix most of your problems by yourself

• How would you like to be remembered?

I would like to be remembered as a person who loves his family and friends. Without family and friends you’re alone in this world and that is never a good thing.

Do you have any close friends at SLA? If so what is it that makes you consider them a close friend?

  • I have a few close friends. I consider them as close friends because they share stuff with me, are often open and casual with me, help me, treat me well, and I am able to do the same with or for them.

Could you talk about one specifically?

  • One close friend that I have is uh..you.

What is that I do that makes you consider me as a close friend of yours?

  • For one, you have always been helpful whenever I’ve had a problem in doing something that has required your assistance, and we both share our views on many, various topics. At some point in time, I’m sure that you’ve told me something about yourself that you wouldn’t share with others, and we behave casually together daily.

Humans of SLA Beeber: Michael

Zack: What was it like growing up in your neighborhood?

Michael: I stay inside a lot sleeping. I didn't know a lot of people in my block. They were all most just racist. During the summer was the only time I came outside. Mostly because my mom made go outside. When I went outside I would ride my bike around my block. I was like the fastest one. Our block had a lot of bike races. I destroyed everyone. They all made excuses like they broke a bone or that I was Asian so I have an unfair advantage. Which was true cause I was born a ninja.

Zack: What is the time that you remember the most from growing up?

Michael: In 6th grade, my teacher had a Jeopardy game about math. I was like the smartest one in my school. The teacher would put me against like everyone when I play. I won like so many games. I think I only lost like one. My teacher was proud of me so he gave me lemon pie after I recited 70 digits of pi. Everyone was so mad at me cause I did so well in school without doing much work. I got kicked out and stuff and I still ace every math benchmark and a was kind of a bully.

Zack: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Michael: In ten years, I see myself as a musician playing the piano and singing in front of people and getting money for it. I see myself making all this money while living in like a one room apartment. I see myself eating ice and sleeping when I am not singing.

Humans Of SLA Beeber: Baba

Babara Masemore

How do you feel about yourself?

I think, like most people, it depends on the day. Generally, pretty good.. But, like everybody else, I can have some days of doubt.

What have your experiences been with your self image and others selfimage?

“ What a good question. Well I think everybody puts an image out that we want to project. And so, like I said a few minutes ago, I generally come across quite self confident and high energy, yet sometimes i’m not feeling that. And I think that some people are much more quiet but they could be a lot more confident one the inside.”

How do you think society affects how people think of themselves?

Thats a very interesting question Ms Bartlett. Because I am currently reading a book called “Quiet”, and there are study after study where society has tried to project that the extrovert is more successful and the book is trying to point out that society has tried to change people, in reality, um, the introvert, the more quiet person, often has more strength. one is a little bit more fake and the other is more thoughtful and thinks about things more deeply.
