Q3 Benchmark

Unit Essential Questions: Our resources are very valuable because we utilize them as much as possible. We depend on them so much that they are now considered necessities. Biodiversity is also needed to live sustainably because it stabilizes our ecosystems. We depend on different places and things to survive.

We affect the earth in more ways than we think. The atmosphere can be affected by the fossil fuels we burn, deforestation, and carbon emissions. We mess with the geosphere through deforestation, infrastructure, and more. The hydrosphere are its organisms are affected by our pollution, littering, overfishing, etc.

Better transportation options/decisions, no fast fashion, more consideration for the environment in homes, and food transparency (morally).

Reflection Questions: For my topic (clothing) it made me realize more of the dangers of fast fashion and fashion as a whole. I knew fast fashion because of sweatshops and things like that but the fact that it is one of the leading reasons for pollution is another reason to slow it down if not for morality but for the environment. I also learned that if leaders and business owners sat down like us to come up with plans to make these businesses more sustainable, big changes could be made.

When I was doing research I was surprised at how many effects fast fashion had. I made a pros and cons list and the difference in length was disappointing. I didn’t know they used so many fossil fuels and oils just for clothes.

I did the slides and helped with the checkpoints. Unfortunately, I didn’t communicate with my group much but despite that, I think we did a solid job. I’m happy to have learned about this so I can make changes to my shopping habits.

Benchmark Reflection!

Unit Essential Questions:

I see so much value in biodiversity and the natural resources on the earth. When something is endangered, it takes a lot to nurse it back to normality. There should be so many more laws protecting animal life and the environments and resources that they rely on. Most things that we do alter the earth’s natural systems, namely things that require energy that likely comes from powerplants run on the burning of fossil fuels. Individuals, communities and nations can live more sustainably by being mindful of how their actions affect the planet. If everyone made an effort to reduce their own carbon footprint, then there would be a significant reduction in carbon emissions in the world.

Reflection Questions:

This project helped me better understand how sustainable clothing is sourced as well as why it is so much more expensive to produce sustainable clothing. Something that surprised me the most was that there weren’t businesses like ours. If more clothing brands sourced more sustainable materials or recycled clothing it would really help. It just seems so simple to me.

I made the slideshow, I reached out to my group members, I came up with the name for our business and I came up with our business plan. I was proud of our overall idea. I think that it could have been better executed but I think we had a good idea.

Q3 Benchmark Reflection

Unit Essential Questions:

What value do we see in the biodiversity and natural resources of the Earth? Many species help their environment thrive through what they carry, reproduce or bring.

What human actions are associated with altering Earth’s natural systems? Burning fossil fuels, deforestation, transportation and farming livestock.

How can individuals, communities, and or nations live more sustainably? People can use reusable things more and focus on the quality rather than rushed, or incomplete processes/choices that only benefit a few rather than an entire unit.

Reflection Questions:

How did this project deepen your understanding of sustainability? I now understand how significant clothes can really be especially when made properly and the importance of their production speed rates.

What information surprised you most? Why? I was mostly surprised at what the clothing industry mostly uses to make clothes (animals and plants of the biosphere). I didn’t know this previously!

How did you contribute to your groups project? Provide specific examples. What were you proud of, in terms of your overall project?

Contributing to my groups project I helped design the blueprint of our physical model, and found sustainable practices for our business. In our physical model I came up with the idea for the flags and what could be seen outside the windows before walking in. I was mostly proud of my group’s effort and staying on task.

Shahaad And Kennedy Sustainability Project

My group founded eco-care innovations. A healthcare corporation that prioritizes waste management as much as they do the well being of everyone that comes in and out of our doors.

We as people see biodiversity in such high value because it supports our environments (plants, animals, air), which directly impacts our way of life/lifespan. Certain human actions effect this such as water pollution as plastics not only kill animals but full habitats due to It being so hard to breakdown. As a result of certain animals /ecosystems dying, certain animals that rely on both as a food source are then forced to die off or eat their own species, which effects their own species in the long run. This lowers biodiversity because it shortens the variety of life due to killing off species. Individuals can live more sustainably by each analyzing individual eco foot print. An eco footprint is basically bread crumbs of how your actions effect the environment around you. For instance I could have a negative eco footprint if I’m driving an older model car to work everyday, that’s because the fossil fuels produce co2 in the environment which in turn leads to global warming. So just being aware and willing to change is enough. This project deepened my understanding by showing me how many forms of sustainability there could be. There were so many creative ways people chose to improve on an existing industry in a healthy way, it was baffling. The info that surprised me most about my industry is just how much wast is mismanaged per year. It’s crazy because it just shows how something so simple could be that harmful to our environment. Kennedy contributions: I made the model, going shopping and coming home to make my arts in craft project out of my shoebox Shahaad: I made the slides, with help from Kennedy researched and sorted all of my stats to create them all.

EcoCare Innovations

Biodiversity and natural resources provide essential ecosystem services, support livelihoods, and contribute to cultural, aesthetic, and scientific values. Things like Deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, overfishing, and urbanization are human actions altering Earth’s natural systems. individuals, communities and nations can live more sustainably by reducing consumption, embracing renewable energy, promote conservation, prioritize local production, implement eco-friendly practices, and foster environmental stewardship. This project helped deepen my understanding and allowed me to see and learn about all the unsustainable practices that take place in the healthcare industry that many people may not be aware of, we all see the healthcare industry as beneficial to us as people, although the healthcare industry benefits individuals by providing medical treatment, preventive care, and health education, enhancing overall well-being and quality of life etc, the healthcare industry has many problems within the industry that effects the world as a whole due to their lack of sustainability, one of the most unsustainable practices in the healthcare industry is their excessive medical waste generation, overuse of single-use plastics, excessive energy consumption, and reliance on non-biodegradable materials in medical equipment are unsustainable practices. For this project I created the physical model, and contributed to researching the problems and how we can improve the quality of the healthcare industry, and created the slides. I think we did really well with both the slides and the physical model along with our presentation, I think we thoroughly explained everything and represented everything well with our physical model and I am proud of the outcome of the overall project .

Efficient Transmissions

Hello All ! Me and my group created a business called efficient transmissions. Our business is to reduce the car usage and make sure our communities are better and safer. The Earth’s biodiversity and natural resources inspire us to value sustainable practices that benefit all living beings. Human activities such as deforestation, pollution are known to disrupt the Earth’s natural balance. Doing this project made me realize how important fossil fuels and green houses gases plays a big role the environment till I started this project. I did a lot for this project far as making the slides , buying the poster taking my time and energy and making sure everything is right for this project. Overall, i’m glad that me and my group were able to finish on time.

Efficient Transmissions

Stone Soup

My group created a sustainable food industry. We came up with a food truck Stone Soup where we go to low income neighborhoods who don’t have the best food and feed them for a low price.

I have learned there is much value that has to do with biodiversity and especially natural resources of the Earth. We can get so many sustainable and heathy resources that can keep humans, our environment, and animals healthy. When it comes to the different earth systems the way fore them to work and help us is if we help them. By keeping out land and waters clean, lowering out pollution rate, and advocating for everyone else to do the same. As a whole we can live more sustainable by doing a lot of little things that can make a huge different. For example walking or bike riding instead of driving a car or taking a bus. Using less fertilizers that can ruin the food we eat and hurt the animals. We can stop overfishing in our oceans so out aqua life is good. There are so many non expensive things we can do.

By doing this project I learned different ways that I can tweak my life to keep the environment more sustainable like I said above. Something that surprised me when looking into the food industry was the different fertilizers that were going on the food we eat and hurting the animals that also eat the food or the animals we are eating. they make our food unhealthy and dangerous. There are healthy sustainable fertilizers they could be using. In my project group I did my part for the different checkpoints na found a lot of good information. Me and my group mates collared on different visions of out final project and made them come to life. I created out sustainable garden.

Stone Soup Reflection

Biodiversity and the earth’s natural resources are crucial for the preservation of all life on earth. As biodiversity and natural resources decrease, ecosystems destabilize. Human activity plays a significant role in the altering of Earth’s natural systems. CO2 emissions from fossil fuels factories and cars, deforestation, overfishing, general overconsumption, agriculture, and monoculture are all examples of this. As individuals who are part of a larger community, there are myriad ways we can alter our consumption habits to live more sustainably. Consuming less plastic, utilizing public transportation over cars, composting food, and donating clothes are all examples of sustainable living habits. Moreover, advocating for policies to change the consumption and production habits of multi-national corporate entities that drive these environmental impacts, moves us even closer to sustainability.

Reflection:

This project has introduced me to an area of unsustainability that I was previously uneducated on. I feel more motivated than ever to adjust my habits to lessen my eco-footprint. I was especially surprised at the amount of environmental damage caused by overfishing, and the lack of access to sustainable foods in low-income areas.

Faith and I worked together to craft our group’s food truck. I am especially proud of the detail put into the explanation of our food truck, the hand-crafted produce, and our company name.

Amber's Q3 Benchmark Reflection

Nature’s variety and stuff like clean air, water, and plants are really important. They help us live well, grow food, control weather, and keep things balanced for life on Earth. So when people cut down forests, catch too many fish, cause pollution, build cities, and mess with the climate, it messes up nature. Animals and plants suffer, and things stop working as they work in ways that don’t wreck the. So to help nature, we should save energy and water, use clean energy like wind and sun, farm in ways that don’t wreck the land, and protect forests and other natural spots from their natural resources from being taken too much.

This project helped me understand sustainability better because it made me think more about whether I’m choosing the safest and healthiest cleaning options. I was amazed by how few natural cleaning liquids there are that don’t use chemicals, I thought there were more options to choose from. Overall, I think I did well in helping my group write down the plan for our project and help brainstorm on what we wanted to do.

Joshua McQueen Q3 Benchmark

Unit Essential Questions: What value do we see in the biodiversity and natural resources of the earth? Biodiversity and natural resources offer a wide range of invaluable benefits to humanity. They provide essential ecosystem services like air and water purification, contribute to medical advancements through medicinal resources, ensure genetic diversity for resilience, hold cultural and spiritual significance, drive economic activities, attract tourism, mitigate climate change, and regulate nutrient cycles. Protecting and conserving these resources are vital for sustaining ecosystems, societies, and future generations. What human actions are associated with altering earth’s natural systems? Human activities like deforestation, pollution, overfishing, climate change, unsustainable agriculture, urbanization, invasive species, water mismanagement, waste generation, and mining have significantly altered Earth’s natural systems, leading to biodiversity loss, habitat destruction, and environmental degradation. Solutions involve adopting sustainable practices, conserving resources, protecting ecosystems, and mitigating climate change. How can individuals, communities and or nations live more sustainably? Individuals, communities, and nations can live more sustainably by reducing consumption, conserving energy, minimizing waste, and supporting sustainable practices. This includes promoting conservation efforts, adopting eco-friendly transportation options, and advocating for policy changes that prioritize environmental sustainability. By embracing these actions collectively, we can work towards a more sustainable future for generations to come. Reflection Questions: How did this project deepen your understanding of sustainability? This project even though it may seem like I didn’t do anything for it I did find out multiple facts like sustainable practices can help mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting renewable energy, and enhancing energy efficiency and sustainable agriculture practices, such as organic farming and agroecology, aim to minimize environmental impacts, preserve soil health, and promote biodiversity. What information about your chosen industry surprised you most? Why? Something that surprised me the most was the fact that palm trees didn’t produce a lot of oxygen so it was safe to cut them down but it was also smart coming up with the whole planting two more because at the end of the day even though it doesn’t produce much it still is something. Another thing that I found interesting was the whole palm oil and cupcakes because I’m just big backed. How did you contribute to your groups project? Provide specific examples. What were you proud of, in terms of your overall project? Like I mentioned before I wasn’t able to help out a lot because I was taken out of class due to volleyball or mini-course meetings/grading but I did throw out some ideas and help where I was told to help and that was it because I wasn’t shared into anything or told anything. I don’t have access to the slides or any pictures.

Reflection questions

Unit Essential Questions:

What value do we see in the biodiversity and natural resources of the earth?

  • These very essential resources give us the necessities to survive, such as water, food and clean air.

What human actions are associated with altering earth’s natural systems?

  • We contribute to climate change by participating in activities like overfishing, deforestation, pollution, and habitat destruction. The Earth’s natural cycles and wildlife are disrupted by this.

How can individuals, communities and or nations live more sustainably?

  • We can plant trees, recycle, use public transportation. In addition we can turn off the water and electricity when not in use and take shorter showers.

Reflection Questions:

How did this project deepen your understanding of sustainability?

  • Throughout this project I have notice that there are so many more ways that sustainability could be done. I feel like I have always known about the electric cars, and clothing but it helped me be able to see the actual process around it. However it did also make me realize how expensive it will be to do so.

What information about your chosen industry surprised you most? Why?

  • The most that surprised me was founding out about all the little things throughout healthcare that seem obvious to use were not being used.

How did you contribute to your groups project? Provide specific examples. What were you proud of, in terms of your overall project?

  • I came up with the idea of putting the solar on top and also creating the hospital idea. As small and unrealistic they are, I am proud of the solar panels on top.

The Cleaning Industry

Hi! My group and I created our own sustainable, eco-friendly cleaning business this week. Below are the slides, and physical model of our project.

The Biodiversity and Natural resources of the Earth cause us to value sustainable resources that support all forms of life. Human actions such as deforestation, pollution, and overfishing are associated with altering Earth’s natural systems. Communities, individuals, and nations could live more sustainably by adopting practices that create a more sustainable and eco-friendly environment like reducing waste, saving energy, and using renewable resources. Doing this project allowed me to understand how human activities or supplies like cleaning sprays affected the health of our environment. The most surprising thing I learned about this was how high the typical ecological footprint of this industry was. I didn’t expect it to be so high, but it was reassuring to know that the ecological footprint isn’t that high for every business within the cleaning industry. I contributed a lot to this project, as in time, energy, and productivity. I made our physical model and constructed the slides. Overall, I am proud of my group for collaborating and presenting our project without nervousness.
