Jahad Marable Earthquakes

VISUAL COMPONENT

At a random time in our presentation, we will make loud noises; maybe with the tables, chairs, and/or other items (illustrating an Earthquake). Students/audience will then perform the safety precautions we will explain during an earthquake.

How do the earth systems affect each other?

Earthquakes start out by a disruption in the Geosphere. This usually directly affects the atmosphere by releasing methane into the air and the hydrosphere by causing huge waves.

How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters?

In environmental science, by studying natural hazards, we can better understand how these phenomena work and the threats they pose to humans and the Earth systems.

Purmah natural disaster

How do the earth’s systems affect each other?

Earth systems communicate and have an impact on one another. For example, the atmosphere affects the hydrosphere, and the biosphere impacts the atmosphere and carbon cycle.

How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters?

By figuring out the causes of natural disasters, creating early warning systems, and directing recovery efforts, environmental science aids in the management of such events.

Marie natural disaster

How do the earth’s systems affect each other? in my opinion, the earth system has a lot of things that can affect each tornado including the atmosphere the hydrosphere, and the geosphere all those play a big part in it.

How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? it would make you understand why certain things happen instead of complaining about it all happening.

Rossanna Tornado

Tornado

How do the earth systems affect each other? The atmosphere interacts with the other spheres as weather occurs in this subsystem. Weather interacts with the hydrosphere as storms bring rain and larger ocean tides. The water in the hydrosphere influences the geosphere by shaping the terrain.

Dental Hygienist Presentation by Brianna Whitaker

How would you define this career? A dental hygienist is a licensed healthcare professional who collaborates with dentists to promote oral health and hygiene, aiming to prevent and treat dental and gum-related diseases.

What did you find most interesting about this career? I think the most interesting thing about this career is that you have to find your own patients.

What advice would you give someone who is interested in pursuing this career? My advice would be to do your research on dentistry to make sure that dental hygiene is for you.

Leya Aleyu Physician Assistant

Overall, I would describe this career as the perfect mix of nursing and being a physician. Like a nurse, you have way more patient care time than a doctor would and more autonomy, but less than you would have as a physician. Yet you still manage to do most of the things a physician can do and can do almost anything else under the supervision of one. What I found most interesting about this career, though it wasn’t one of your questions, was that you get a white coat as a PA, which I thought was just reserved for physicians. Advice that I would give someone who is interested in pursuing this career is to only join this field if they have passion for it because it’s too difficult, too much work, and too much time to commit to it just for money.

Radiology Tech - Ahmya Osbourne

I would define this career as assisting in diagnosing patients through medical imaging such as x-rays, I find the fact that people in this field play a huge role in most major diagnosis to patients. Also the fact that you can complete a program and become certified or get a degree and become certified. I haven’t heard of many medical professions that require so little time. I would say to work hard and be sure you have a passion for helping people and working in a medical environment.

Veterinarian or just Vet for short

How would you define the career? I would say that this is a beautiful field to work in because of the lives that are being saved and fixed through people who actually care. What did you find most interesting about this career? I found how much schooling and experience that was required to be interesting. What advice would you give someone who is interested in pursuing this career? I would say just be passionate about it and have a strong love for animals.

Biomedical Engineer - Laila Abdul-Haqq

In short, I would define this career as the combination of four core studies: biology, engineering, mechanics, and medicine which all work as a team in order to improve the quality of human life with technology. In all honesty, as a whole, I believe that this career is extremely interesting. I say this because it’s crazy how important technology has become when it comes to improving our society’s health issues. In fact, I think that it’s just a tad bit concerning about how much we rely on technology nowadays, but the fact that there are people who are able to combine all these different studies in order to create things super innovative is astonishing. Some advice I’d give to someone who wanted to pursue this career in the future would be that I hope you recognize the time and dedication that’s needed in order to do the things that biomedical engineers do, and if you don’t want to sacrifice your time, you don’t need to pursue this career.

Vet Assistant - Camryn Nedrick

A Vet assistant is someone who assists the doctor with surgery for an animal. They also sanitize everything down, set the table for surgery and also help restrain the animal before surgery. What I find most interesting about this profession is that it sounds like the assistant does more work than the doctor does. Advice I would give someone interested in this profession is that if you love animals this is the perfect career for you!

Physical Therapist

Physical Therapists help patients to regain mobility after an injury. The most exciting thing I found was that PTs aren’t required to complete residency (although it’s encouraged). My advice for someone who wishes to pursue a career in Physical Therapy would be to stay focused and attend a college with a good PT program.

Midwifery

Certified Nurse Midwives provide care for women and families. They are knowledgeable and compassionate, care for childbearing women, newborn infants, and families across the continuum from pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and the early weeks of life”. The advice I would give is to be ready to extend your education beyond 4 years because it requires extra school.

Jules Doroba Nursing Project

I would define this career by saying that nurse practitioners are hard workers who have extensive training in their careers. They have to go through a lot of education too. The most interesting thing that I learned about np’s is that they also have to have a BSN (bachelor’s degree of science in nursing). If someone was interested in this career then I would tell them that it’s hard work, but it’s very rewarding.

Kaziyah Root Capstone

My capstone project focuses on the importance of Islam and what it means to be a Muslim. Three juniors (Sa’d, Ramlah, and Jabriel) and I came together to begin an organization named MSA, which stands for Muslim Student Association. This was one of the best things we could have added to the SLA Beeber community because the Islamic community is growing everyday and more students are converting more and more each day. On Wednesdays, we teach our students new lessons and give homework after so that the knowledge doesn’t leave their brains. For example, our first lesson was teaching the students the Arabic alphabet and what the basics of Islam. After that, we moved onto the importance of covering and obeying Allah. As the MSA increased, the leaders decided that it’ll be a great idea to host an Iftar at school and welcome all muslim and non muslims who don’t attend SLA Beeber as well. This event took place on April 12,2023 and over 100 people attended. Each MSA member spoke and we also had a guest speaker, Mufti Muhammad (Imam at Masjid in New York). This entire process was stressful but we all worked together so that it wouldn’t take a toll on one of us instead of all. After all of the fundraisers, and lessons. We all enjoyed our time at the Iftar and gave lots of knowledge on Islam. The lesson I learned from my project is to never judge a book by its cover. This goes for religious and non religious people. A common mistake others tend to do is, put people inside categories without knowing them internally.

For my Senior Capstone Project I decided to create a webpage giving new students information and small things I wish I knew when I started at SLA. I came during my senior year so it was very different for me, I felt behind but ahead at the same time. I want my webpage to give incoming students pieces of information I wished to know when starting.

Jade Perry Capstone

Hello, my name is Jade Perry, and for my capstone, I taught an art mini-course with my friend and classmate Nicholas. Our capstone was created to diversitize and help participants develop their interest in art. In our mini-course, we worked with Traditional & Digital Art by giving tips on our art pieces. My lessons were focused on traditional art. I took a group of nine middle school students and let them draw to their whatever they wanted. The mini-course wasn’t made to feel like an actual class, only gave them a category and let them go from there. I can’t say that the kids will end up becoming a modernized version of Picasso, or if they’ll even remember this course, but I can say that they changed a bit, and I got to know them a lot more than I expected to. When I think about how I helped my community, I think that I simply helped some of the kids develop an interest in it or just gave them a place to sit and do what they enjoy. My goal was never to make them perfect, or turn them into full-time artists, I just wanted to share my interests and give them an outlet, which is something that a lot of schools in our city lack. I want to start these kids off in hopes that they’ll progress and maybe even teach a course themselves later on down the line.

I believe that hands-on learning is crucial for the development of 10th and 11th graders. For the last few months, I have had the privilege of teaching these students how to use basic tools and build things. In this process, I have witnessed the importance of giving students the opportunity to work with their hands and see the results of their work. Not only do they learn practical skills, but they also gain a sense of confidence and accomplishment that comes with building something from scratch. Throughout this experience, I have seen firsthand the value of teaching basic tools and their applications in real life, as well as the positive impact it has on students’ personal growth and development.

Being a student at this school, I always was curious about what the mascot stood for. I didn’t want to ask anyone cause I felt as if it would’ve been embarrassing if I asked an obvious question. So over the past 4 years while doing school work and sitting in classes the question has always been in the back of my mind. Why is the Rocket the Sla Beeber mascot? The Rocket is a symbol that represents all of the students that have graduated and launched their careers from this school. Whether it’s to university, trade school or right to a job, Sla Beeber community is both the rocket and the rocket is the community. So through many trial and error I wanted to give my own take on what the rocket represents to me using the sills I have learned from SLA Beeber. I brainstormed through many ideas, such as carpentry, mechanics and etc, but I landed on 3d modeling.

Knowing you have someone in your corner that values what you have to say and lets it be known that it’s okay to be yourself is very important in life. That’s what my mini-course/senior project is mainly constructed on. Bask In Your Beauty is a mini-course that builds the confidence of young girls and teaches them things about life that they’ll soon experience, especially in high school. While us as leaders are teaching these young girls, we were learning from them as well. All in all I’m truly grateful for the experience of getting to know these young ladies and I’m looking forward to seeing them grow into different people.

Teaching Arabic (Ayman & Mageed)

Teaching Arabic is not just about the language; it is an opportunity to immerse students in the culture and history of the Arab world. Arabic serves as a gateway to understanding the diverse traditions, customs, and heritage of Arabic-speaking societies. Through language instruction, teachers can introduce students to Arab art, music, cuisine, and societal values. Creating a culturally immersive environment within the classroom fosters intercultural understanding and enables students to develop a broader perspective on the world. Teaching the Arabic language can be a challenging yet rewarding experience. Overcoming the intricacies of Arabic grammar, script, and vocabulary requires dedication and perseverance. Overcoming these obstacles demands the teacher and learners’ patience and perseverance. (Students Work Below)

Alana Baggett's Capstone

For my capstone project, I wanted it to represent something I was a part of and that I could actually relate to. I pushed the School District to include ASL as a language credit, offer more information on the deaf community, and include deaf students as they do other students. I assessed this by writing a letter to the hearing support coordinator. I would like a response in the letter as that will determine the success of my capstone project. Throughout this project, I learned more about my community and the abilities within. I am able to use my voice to speak for others.
