Eliza and Eva's Physics project
Eliza’s artist statement
My partner and I decided to make our sculpture a happy meal because I think right now it represents American culture. I think that Fast food is so normal and typical for our culture that it has become the new norm. We also designed it to show how much fast food has had an effect on the typical American diet. Essentially what I’m saying is that a Mcdonalds happy meal is just as or even a little more American than our flag because it not only represents our our economic, social, and domestic institution but has managed to change the way America thinks and eats food. We thought that we should shed some light(pun intended) on the ordinary yet extraordinary effects of medium fries and a large cheese burger has had on not only American culture but the entire world. This project says about how we are creative and how we put thought into our work instead of just thinking of the first thing that comes to our mind and that we are willing to go the extra mile to prove that we care about the work that we produce and that others see.
Eva’s artist statement
I personally have choose to do a hamburger and French Fries because I thought it was a unique idea and unusual. I wanted to do something that wasn't a clique or something that would have been expected of me to do. What this project says about me is that I am always trying to do something unusual and unique that will make people look twice. It shows me and partners ( Eliza ) creativity and mind set that allows us to create something that pushes us out of our comfort zone. Doing a project like this pushes me out of my boundaries and makes me really engage in the physics world and really get an understanding of what i'm doing and connect it to real life. It is very enriching to know that you are able to apply what you are learning into a creative and genuine idea that turns out to be a success.

Artist Statement
I chose to create this sculpture because it seemed to be unique. Unique because it hasn’t been done before in the way I designed it and also because for me it shows my passion for education. This sculpture shows my passion for education because everything that I have learned or studied has been put into a school bag and has been cared around with me. And know I am choosing to create a sculpture out of it.
Light Me Up Taylors by Jada Martin and Moesha Grant
We chose to make this sculpture because it represents an item in our sense of style. Jada and I both like the Chuck Taylor Brand because it represents us growing up and comfort. Chuck Taylors often remind us of the summer activities we often did when we were young. Adding the lights to the shoe shows how we want to grow out of old things and make our mark on the world. Also, we chose this sculpture because adding lights is easier than any other object we thought of with the holes on the side of the shoe.

We chose a hat for our project because we both like hats. Also, we both enjoy watching hockey and like the Flyers. We thought that this was a good way to combine the things we love. The hat represents me because I really like the flyers (David). The hat represents me because I used to wear hats all of the time and hockey is one of my favorite sports to watch (Mike).
physics benchmark- chirstmas tree
Artist statement:
We choose to make a mini Christmas tree because we thought that the Christmas tree would be much more reasonable. When we were going over the guidelines for this project we saw that all the lights had to last at least 24 hours or more. With the chandelier it required more battery power then if we were to make our Christmas tree. Our project says something about us because Grace and I both really enjoy December and having Christmas, New Years, and Alexis’ birthday (on 12/31) all in one month. We decided to make a Christmas tree to show our love for this month. We also thought that if we were to make a Christmas tree, we would be able to use it every year, even after this project was over.

Family Appreciation
The Office of Family and Community Engagement has planned several events to take place in October in honor of Family Appreciation Month. This annual celebration allows the School District of Philadelphia to express its appreciation for all that families do in support of their child’s education and our schools. Studies have proven that when families are involved with their child’s education, students perform better in their classes and are more likely to graduate. An event calendar for Family Appreciation Month can be accessed at http://www.philasd.org/announcements/2013-family- . Please share this information with students and parents at your school and encourage them to register as soon as possible.appreciation-month.pdf
