Q4 Botany Benchmark: Green Design and Comparative Agriculture
Q4 Amedeo Modigliani-Cinque
Ever since I visited the Barnes Foundation a few years ago I fell in love with my favorite artist, Amedeo Modigliani. I like his simplicity and abstract drawing of people. This would include his dramatic exaggeration of people’s narrow/long heads and necks. For someone like myself who does not have much knowledge of art, Modigliani’s paintings are very identifiable compared to other artists’ works.
In the art piece I selected (“Jeanne Hebuterne with Hat and Necklace”) a woman is positioned in the middle of the space looking off into the distance. There is a window in the far corner of the picture and possibly a sofa on which she is seated. She is wearing a simple hat, a necklace, and a blouse. Her right hand is draped over the side of the couch in a relaxed position.
With this piece I tried to replicate the original sketch but changed the color scheme. The original was kind of dark and gloomy with earth tones.I tried to experiment with my palette by trying different combinations of colors. In my sketch I tried to use brighter colors that had contrasts of warm and cool tones. I also chose to eliminate some of the elements in the background so I focused more on the woman’s face and body.
In conclusion, I am delighted with the finished work. I felt I put a good amount of time and effort into really looking at the original and then trying to reinterpret it in my own way. I feel that I successfully created the picture I had imagined.
Q4 Botany Benchmark!!
Q4 Botany Benchmark
For the Q4 botany benchmark, we compared 4 different types of gardening and to create more food secure future in our community. I think the project was interesting, but for more so the tower garden part because it seems like the most effect out of all the ways to garden to me. Styles of the tower gardening, urban farming, crop rotation and self-water systems all seem like better ways to garden in order to make the plants grow healthier and more tasteful.
Botany Q4 Benchmark: Comparative Agriculture and Green Design
For the Q4 botany benchmark, we had to compare different greening projects that can create a more food secure future for our community. I thought this was an interesting project to do because I got to learn about different gardening methods that help benefit the society. I learned about tower gardening, urban farming, crop rotation and self-water systems. These 4 different growing methods play a crucial role in food security. After researching 4 different growing methods for plants I wonder what will the future bring for more greening projects that are even better than the ones we currently have and use now for our plants.
Human Anatomy: Q4 Benchmark- PSA Sanitation Public Heath Issue
The most meaningful part of creating the PSA was that I was able to spread awareness on a serious issue people have to go through in the world. Not everyone in the world has access to clean drinking water and proper toilets. This has an impact on society because of the public health concern that comes from sanitation problems. Not having proper restrooms and soap can lead to the spread of bacteria, viruses, and parasites found in human excreta which can contaminate the soil, food, and water. Human has basic rights to clean drinking water and sanitation.
ART-Q4 Project
For my quarter 4 benchmark we had to create a drawing is[iyedes by or similar to our artist study artwork. I decided to create a drawing that was inspired by Käthe Kollwitz drawing known as ‘’ Woman with Dead Child’’ I decided to create a sprawling based of this crawling because I wanted to challenge myself and see If I could draw a person. The person I drew was a girl crying on her knees in a dark room. I did this because in the ‘’ woman with dead child’’ drawing there is a woman holding a child in her arms crying.
I want to work to communicate to my audience that the things that I draw play a role in my growth as an artist. The tools I used to create my art piece was charcoal sticks, smudge sticks, and pencils. I used the pencil to draw the weeping girl in the corner. I used the charcoal to darken the room. I used the smudge stick to lighten some parts of the room. This artwork is similar to previous artwork I have made before because I have drawn someone crying before. The only difference is that in the previous drawing I drew a person's face with tears coming down it. In my current drawing, you don’t see the persons tears you just seem them curled up in the corner in a dark room.
The overall process of the drawing was fairly simple. I didn’t take too much time to draw the person it took about 20 minutes to draw. The thing I spent the most time with was drawing the one point perspective of the room and cooling it with charcoal. It took a while with the charcoal because I Keep leaving fingerprints on the drawing and had to keep calling the paper again. An artist work who I was inspired by and has similar work is Käthe Kollwitz who I did an art study project on. This is the images I was inspired by that I wanted to create an image similar to https://www.artsy.net/artwork/kathe-kollwitz-woman-with-dead-child. A certain technique is import to this work is different shading techniques you can do. Learning about different drawing textures can really bring a drawing to life if it is done right. I learned different shading techniques I can do with charcoal sticks.
The thing I am most proud of in my work in the person I drew. I thought it can out really nice and also like how the person in the corner is the only source of light you can see in the dark room with no windows or light. If I could change one thing about this drawing it would be to have made the girl I little bit bigger in the drawing because she looks really small. I have learned that learning about an artist and drawing in a style like theirs can show you a new type of art style you have never done before and may enjoy.
Q4 Project Salvador Dali
Hertz
Art
For my quarter four project I decided to create a painting inspired by the style and artwork of Salvador Dali. Salvador Dali is one of the world's most famous surrealist painters, he is very iconic for his role in the movement and his impactful work. I choose him because, he was the artist I decided to work on for my quarter 3 project. Surrealism itself is a style of painting that I enjoy and like to paint. Surrealism is a 20th-century avant-garde movement in art and literature. It sought out to release creative potential of the unconscious mind, such as irrational juxtaposition of images being an example. Or an easier example would be drawing or painting an oxymoron of two things or one thing, sometimes random things you would not see together. My painting itself was inspired by not one painting by Salvador Dali but his overall style. I do not have a name for the painting yet, but for this painting I wanted to incorporate organic things. That being the nude upper half of a woman's body, trees and flowers growing from the fingertips to show that the women is the birth giver of everything (mother nature). The painting is meaning to show the destructiveness and beauty of nature in total. While incorporating use a grimness to the painting and things I like. Such as giving the women a floating potato for a head because I love potatoes.

Lamira Jeffreys Benchmark Reflection
Our Awareness PSA basically talked about what most kids or teens today are sometimes are too shy about. It shed light on the statistics of reproductive health and some benefits from it. So I decided to do the topic of Reproductive health because firstly I wanted to do a topic that we really don’t know that much of. I wanted to also educate myself on a topic like this that’s very under-looked compared to many others. I contributed to my group by doing everything visually and video wise. I helped bring the picture together as well as help conduct some of the interviews. I feel as though we did well by finding out resources that were trustworthy. I think the honesty and comfortless within our interviewers especially with a topic that’s so embarrassing for some they did very well with speaking on with their own prior knowledge. If I could do this again I would try and make it more entertaining for younger viewers so that it was seem as though they are just being talked at. I want them to understand by being entertained if they find little scripts or methods for them to be entertain it will be something they will take with them for the rest of their lives. The most meaningful thing about our PSA would have to be the authenticity and realness of our interviews it’s not as if they were planned or rehearsed they were talking from experiences and using the utmost honesty.
Reproductive Health PSA
In summary, our PSA is about reproductive health, what is being researched, how women are affected and how it is treated in politics. The cause of these issues surround the political views, religious views and how clinics and research are funded. Under healthcare, some things are treated but many issues that affect women more are not covered by insurance or Medicare. Politicians and people are pushing for restrictions on abortions and this affects the number of clinics in a state. Those clinics are very important to the surrounding area because they offer screenings for cervical and breast cancer. They help expecting mothers and offer contraceptives to those who want them. The defunding of those clinics cause a lot more damage to a community because of a person's view of what a woman can do with her body.
I helped with creating the interview questions and arranging the interview with Dr. Driscoll. I also helped with the recording and I edited the video and audio together. I think it came out well, except I would have picked a quieter place to record. This is an important issue because it affects me and the access I have to be healthy. I believe that women should have options planned parenthood offers. The most important part of this project was listening to someone in a professional field talk about the concerns about how the issue is being treated. How different states have different laws that make it extremely hard or impossible for them to make their own choices about their body.
