Powerpoint Ser/Estar

For this project we worked with partners. We had to make a powerpoint about ser & estar and the 9 caterogies of Spanish. After we did that, we had to make up sentences and record ourselves speaking the sentences. This project was fun because it helped me learned more about the 9 catergoies, and also in the future this Powerpoint could help others with Spanish.

Día de los Muertos

T.A.G English Reflection

The person who passed away was my great-grandmother.  To be more specific, her name was Margaret, but we, her great grandchildren, usually called her “Peg mom.” The way we got this name was one day some of my cousins came up with it to give her a distinct name that she could be known for.  From that point on, we called her peg mom and that name stuck.  Along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren calling her “Peg mom,” many of her best or closest friends and really almost anyone called her “Peg” and that was her nickname. The real reason for this is because Peg is another way of saying Margaret, but she was never really known as Margaret, even though it was her real name.  Apart from her being my great-grandmother, she was my mother’s grandmother.  I am saying this not to state the obvious, but to say that my mother was very close to my great-grandmother while she was still living.  And, of course, my grandmother was close to her as well, and she was definitely shaken when she passed.  So, she wasn’t just a great-grandmother, although that is what she was to me.  She was a mother, an aunt, a grandmother, a great aunt, and a friend of many.

Peg mom meant a great deal to me.  I believe that I really did get to know her and learn about most of the things she liked to do while she was alive, and I am blessed because of that.  She died earlier this year in February, and the last time I saw her and got to spend time with her was Christmas Eve of last year.  It was a special time celebrating a holiday with her, but not even knowing that it would be the last memory I have of her.  However, I cherish the moments I spent conversing with her and telling her about my life in the last 15 years of her life.  I always viewed peg mom as a servant and a teacher, always talking with kindness and teaching with patience.  In addition to her meaning a lot to me, she also meant a lot to my mother and my grandmother as I said before.  My mother in particular was very close to her because she was like a mentor to her.  She lived very close to my great-grandmother, so my mom was over at her house almost every day, and she was taught many things by her.  This connects to me personally because those lessons that my mom learned were taught to me and my brothers.  So, when my great-grandmother passed, it my mother and I alike were both sad, because we were close to her in our own ways.

I created the sugar skull and mask in remembrance of her because she was important to me and my whole family.  She lived to be 96 years old and each year we will remember her.  She was a huge impact on my family and me in particular as well.  Therefore, the first person who came to my mind when I was introduced to this project was her, so peg mom is who I chose.  I also chose her because I knew that their were many aspects of her life that I was sure I could cover when I created my mask and skull.  I knew some of these areas not only by a couple of my experiences with her, but also learning about the experiences that my mom had with her, and the memories they made together.

My sugar skull reflects this person because it shows who she was and things she liked.  For example, I put stamps on it because she was post mistress, the person who runs the post office.  Also, I included some of her favorite colors which were lavender and green.  Also, on the eyes of the sugar skull, I put on buttons because she loved to collect things, and her biggest collection was of buttons.  On the mask, I included the buttons again, but I also made a piano to reflect the fact that playing the piano was one of her most favorite hobbies and it was something she had a talent for.  She was an organist and choir director for 20 years at Kirkpatrick Memorial Presbyterian.  She also enjoyed sharing her talent with others by playing when family or friends were over.  Peg mom also taught some family members a lot of skills she knew about the piano, and those skills were passed down from generations.  In addition, along with other colors, I did put her favorite colors on the mask as well.  The last thing I put on my mask was a hole for golf.  The reason for this, as you would assume, is because golf was another one of her hobbies that she liked to do.

Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) has opened up my mind to celebrate the passing of my loved ones because it is a good way to spend time remembering all the good things that person has done.  Because it is a three day festival that people of Spanish culture celebrate every year it is a perfect time to not only think about the people who have died when you were living, but also to reflect on your life.  Death is inevitable for everyone.  There is no way out of dying, because everyone will die eventually.  So, instead of just mourning and being sad about a person who you loved passing, even though sometimes that is necessary, we should celebrate that person’s life and reflect upon all the accomplishments and achievements that they have made in their lifetime. In regards to my great-grandmother, Día de los Muertos has reopened my mind to how death is not just a sad time of her body leaving this earth, but it is the thought of her being in a better place that makes me want to celebrate.  After all she has accomplished and all she has persevered through though troubles came her way, her life on this earth finally came to an end, but we will never forget her.  I love you Peg mom!

This project is about me doing a eulogy and explaining the life of my great-grandmother. She was very important to me because she has been a big part of my life. What I wrote about was her origins and who she married, and also what she was like. My mother was very close to her, and I could see her pain when my great-grandmother passed. I also wrote a little bit about her family, and what she meant to me. Doing this was an awesome experience because it gave me a chance to remember her.

College Interview

This project was very stressful but somewhat fun at the same time. Working with Hadja was cool she's a good partner, and one thing I learned is always be on the same page with your partner. Another things is always remember your script or most of it because constant looking at it while recording a vid won't work. Always play the roll in your video also.

Spanish Conversational By: Lamira Jeffreys And Aaliyah Ellerbee

In this Project me and my partner had to create a informational presentation using the basic Spanish dialog and show our understanding. I found this presentation very fun to make because we got to show a little bit of ourselves through our work. We were able to come up with a full script and translate it in Spanish. We talked about all the things that we have learned and showed them throughout the videos. There were a few topics where we had to compare them in the dialog they were two completely different things and we had to show how we could use them in a conversation.

For this project, my partner and I had to create a children book in Spanish. For this book the requirements was to have a book in complete Spanish and it had to be about a child being sick or having a doctors appointment. In this book we had a couple of concepts that we had to include. Some of the concepts were clothing, body parts, verbs, weather, pronouns, family members, basic conversation, and adjectives.

Dia de los Muertos

English Section

The person that I am writing about for Dia De Los Muertos is my great-grandmother, her name was Rosa-Lee Nixon. SHe is my grandmother’s mom and my mother’s grandma. She was 83 years old when she died. Rosa died in 2005 from a health condition that I don’t know about. She meant a lot to me because she was my great grandmother, and even though I didn’t really get to see her as often because she lived in another state, she was still very close to me. She held me when I was a couple days old, when we went to visit her in North Carolina. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to us and as rich as gold, that’s why I am making this skull and mask in remembrance of her. She showed the most care and love to each of her nine children. Rosa-Lee did whatever she could to support her family. She didn’t have too big of an impact on me, but she for sure did on my grandma. They were very close, and she named my grandmother after her. My sugar skull reflects my great grandmother because the mask and skull are mostly red. Her name is Rosa so I think of a rose every time I hear her name. On the sugar skull I put a ring because she was married and loved jewelry especially rings. On the back of the skull I tried to draw the flag of North Carolina because that is where she was born. Rosa took care of anybody, no matter if you were a stranger or not. I have red flower that resembles a rose for her name. She loved jewelry so I put glitter on the mask and skull to resemble diamonds and gold. Every year in August we celebrate her life and my great grandfather’s life. We have a memorial in remembrance of their lives. So it’s like I’m celebrating Day of the Dead, but without the skulls, and masks, and other decorations, just with my family and family friends and food. She was a blessing to us.

Dia de los Muertos has opened my mind up about celebrating loved ones because it shows that I don’t have to just cry and be really sad that this person passed away. We can celebrate their life and their accomplishments to remember them. No matter what religion you are, you can celebrate Day of the Day because here in America we don’t really have a way of celebrating someone’s life when they die.

In the Dia de los Muertos project we picked a person who was very close to us and died, and made a sugar skull decorated with different colors and items that resembled them. This project was about celebrating someone's life when they died. We also made a mask that could resemble them with whatever colors we wanted. Dia de los Muertos means The Day of the Dead which is celebrated in Mexico and many other places where they celebrated the lives of children, animals, and most importantly loved ones who have pasted away.

Día de los Muertos Working Doc
We did memorial pieces in class about our loved ones that passed. We did this in the style of the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos. This was probably the most work but I honestly didn't mind. I dedicated my project to my grandmother and this project was focused around my hobbies so it was easy for me to do. It was probably my favorite project we did all year.

Conversation

http://prezi.com/1phb6xfg3fwh/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy&rc=ex0share
The conversation prezi was about how we can compare the given things. We had to show if we could build off of basic conversations. The goal of the video project was he goal of this project is to create a product that will engage each student with writing, reading, listening and speaking in the Spanish language.

Ser and estar

pdf
For this project me and Lucas worked together to create different vidoes. The videos were in spanish of course. Therefore they consisted of prepositions. The prepositions that we included were all of the prepositions that we were re rquired to. Some of these prepositions were en, con, and more. Me and Lucas recived a good grade for this project and thinking back we deserved it.

For this project, we were to create a spanish project where the plot could be the character in the story is sick and stays home, the character goes to school and feels sick, or the character goes to the doctor for an appointment. The project must be creative, and my partner and I found a really creative way to make our book special.

Ser and Estar Conversational

Ser and Estar
In this project we had to engage in conversations using Ser and Estar. What I liked about this project is the effort both of us put in. We spoke and actually knew what we both were talking about. I also liked that we inspected certain things in the school and decided to use them within our text. I can't really explain the whole project because we were going through different storylines.

Mi bisabuela

This project is based around the eulogy I made for my great grandmotherś funeral. My great grandmother was born in North Carolina, she moved to New York and then Philadelphia in the 1940s.The sugarskull repreents her life and her hobbies that she enjoyed. She really enjoyed cooking, and her signature dish was a hummingbird cake.  The video that I submitted is me translating her eulogy from english to spanish.

Children's Spanish Book

For this project, we were given a partner and we had to create a children's book based on the child going to school and getting sick, the child getting sick and staying home, or the child going to the doctor's. We had certain requirements to reach and it had to be completely in Spanish. We had to have a cover and a title. One person was the author and the other was the artist. This was the most difficult project that we gotten, but I'm still proud of the result with my partner.

Dia de los muertos

The loved one that I lost was my Aunt Brandi Jocelyn Brice. Brandi wasn’t my real aunt but she was like my aunt because she was my mom’s best friend which is why I was always around her. I choose to make my skull and mask of my aunt because she meant a lot to me and she taught me a lot of things. My sugar skull represents my aunt because her favorite colors were Christmas colors. Brandi died of lung cancer. She died on Thursday, October 16th 2014. She was born in New York on Sunday,July 10th,1977 in New York. She moved to Philadelphia to attend Temple University. After she atteneded Temple University she went to work at the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, which is where she meet my mom. Her hobbies included volleyball field hockey and softball. Brandi was an active member of the Philadelphia Bar Association where she served as Chair of the Association''s Board of Governors and the Audit and Elections Committees. Brandi authored articles for Upon Further Review, the Association''s substantive legal journal, and served on the Board of Judges for the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Pursuit of Justice Legal Writing Competition. She co-chaired the Government and Public Service Lawyers Committee and served as a panel member for the 2009 Chancellor''s Summit on Diversity and Inclusion. Brandi was an investigator for the Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention and served as a member of the Commission. In the final stages of her treatment, Brandi was actively planning to pursue her passion for the culinary arts. Brandi was the perfect type of person. She always had a way with people. She loved being around kids and she even held sleepovers with all her nieces.Brandi had a really good relationship with her mother and when her mother died she mentioned that she felt like she lost a piece of her. Brandi loves to share memories and she even showed me pictures of her mother. One memory I have with her and my mom is when we all went to walk around the ciyy for a breast cancer walk. The city was really great but it ended on a bad note because I lost her broach that her mother gave her that was passed down her family for 10 years. Brandi’s death was a shock to me because I never knew that she had cancer. Finding out last year that she had cancer was a big deal to me because I found out 1 month before she left the earth. This affected me because my mom thought that she would live. One thing that I loved about Brandi was her long thick hair. Her hair was the only thing that she let affect her because she felt like it gave her beauty. This made me feel really bad because I didn’t know how to comfort her because she would cry as her hair fell out and there was nothing I could do because it just fell out with treatment. Brandi is predeceased by her mother, Carolyn B. Sims Glover. Brandi is survived by a host of loving and supportive family and friends.I know that people die and I know that this is how the world goes. Sometimes I just wonder why it had to be her. I feel like she would’ve had a really great life. I really feel like she was a great person.Knowing that She died makes me feel sad sometimes but I know I have to live my own life and move on for her.

College Interview

https://www.wevideo.com/hub#media/ci/496840143
For the college interview, we worked with a partner. This project we had to pick a college of a choice and find information about it. After that we had to pretend we were at a interview to go to the school. Me and my partner picked Penn State because that was one of the top colleges that we both wanted to go to. I enjoyed this project because it was neat learning how to speak Spanish in a college interview, it was diffcult but I had fun doing it.

Spanish Children's Book

For this project we had to create a story for children. We had to work with another classmate. My part was to illustrate the pictures to correspond to what the story was telling. All in all though, my partner and I ended up splitting the work. and helping each other out. We were to add everything we had been learning so far.

This is an conversational project I did with my partner Diana. The point of this project was to help us speak more fluently in Spanish. We use concepts form the verbs Ser/Estar.
