Humans of SLA Beeber: Michael

Zack: What was it like growing up in your neighborhood?

Michael: I stay inside a lot sleeping. I didn't know a lot of people in my block. They were all most just racist. During the summer was the only time I came outside. Mostly because my mom made go outside. When I went outside I would ride my bike around my block. I was like the fastest one. Our block had a lot of bike races. I destroyed everyone. They all made excuses like they broke a bone or that I was Asian so I have an unfair advantage. Which was true cause I was born a ninja.

Zack: What is the time that you remember the most from growing up?

Michael: In 6th grade, my teacher had a Jeopardy game about math. I was like the smartest one in my school. The teacher would put me against like everyone when I play. I won like so many games. I think I only lost like one. My teacher was proud of me so he gave me lemon pie after I recited 70 digits of pi. Everyone was so mad at me cause I did so well in school without doing much work. I got kicked out and stuff and I still ace every math benchmark and a was kind of a bully.

Zack: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Michael: In ten years, I see myself as a musician playing the piano and singing in front of people and getting money for it. I see myself making all this money while living in like a one room apartment. I see myself eating ice and sleeping when I am not singing.

Babara Masemore

How do you feel about yourself?

I think, like most people, it depends on the day. Generally, pretty good.. But, like everybody else, I can have some days of doubt.

What have your experiences been with your self image and others selfimage?

“ What a good question. Well I think everybody puts an image out that we want to project. And so, like I said a few minutes ago, I generally come across quite self confident and high energy, yet sometimes i’m not feeling that. And I think that some people are much more quiet but they could be a lot more confident one the inside.”

How do you think society affects how people think of themselves?

Thats a very interesting question Ms Bartlett. Because I am currently reading a book called “Quiet”, and there are study after study where society has tried to project that the extrovert is more successful and the book is trying to point out that society has tried to change people, in reality, um, the introvert, the more quiet person, often has more strength. one is a little bit more fake and the other is more thoughtful and thinks about things more deeply.

Do you think that affected your life in any type of way?

Yea. If I payed attention in school as I child I wouldn’t be in the position i’m in now. I think not going to school and being careless about my education destroyed my chances of achieving my goals and dreams.

How do you feel about my position as far as education?

As I always tell you, i’m proud of you. I am happy to see you doing something I wish I could’ve done. The stuff I hear you are learning and doing is stuff i’ve never done before. You are on the right track in life.

Is there any messages you would like to say?

Umm, education is your life. To anyone who is playing and not taking school seriously, you should. I didn’t do good in school and now I wish I could go back to do it over again. Life is more than fun and games. Education will take you anywhere you want in life.

Brodi Interview

Humans Of SLA@Beeber

crazay photo of me and pops.jpg

Ryan's Interview (my dad)

What is your favorite memory of me? Why? Are there any other memories that come close to being as good as this one? If so what is it?

I don't have any one particular memory because I think there is definitely a lot of times we done things together or life experiences that were enjoyable And i honestly don't want to pick any one favorite one I think that is half that fun of it is experiencing life and seeing all of the times that are good and there are so many that stand out that there isn't one really big one.

If there was one moment in your life that you wish you could experience again what would it be? Why? Are there any other moments that you wish you could re live? if so what are they

I think this answer will be probably similar to the first which is that I'm a firm believer in having experiences and i think a lot of times it good to go out in the world and see things and feel things and experience things and I think that those types of interactions with the world color who we are and make us the type of person that we are. And I feel like the older that we get the more our memories adjust based on every new memory and every year things get older. I don't necessarily want to experience any again because I feel that would change how I remember it or it might not be as good or wonderful or interesting; or the way that I remember is how it influences me now and that is what I want to remember.

If you had a chance to go back in your lifetime and change one that that you did what would it be? Why? Are there any more instances that you wish you could have changed? If so what are they?

I think that one thing is not one specific moment but it is an attitude. And its an attitude about how I felt about school particularly while I was in high school; I think one of the biggest things I would go back and change is how I felt while I was in high school I wish I had done more better work you know and strived to go above and beyond because i was an example of that smart kid who thought you know if I do that little bit I'm smart enough to get by, great. But realistically that's all that's going to ever happen in your life you are just going to continue to get by, never be more do more until you do more and become more in high school.

  1. What the most important lessons you’ve learned in life?

“To pay attention, focus, listen, and respect others. The reason is because without these key elements, you can’t make it in life.”

2) Describe your perfect day.

“A spring day where birds are flying, kids are playing and flying kites. Also, people are having picnics under a rainbow and people are laughing while they get along with each other.”

3) How would you like to be remembered?

“I would like to be remembered as honest, hard-working, trustworthy, reliable, giving, caring individual. I would also like to be remembered as a role model for my son, who I love so dearly.”

Humans of SLA Beeber: Adam's Mom

Screenshot_2015-04-17-12-37-06~2.jpg

Adam: What is your earliest memory of life?

Yolanda: Probably like six, umm probably a little earlier than that Ima say between four and six because I used tosuck a bottle you know I had a bottle. I kept that bottle until I was four and I remembered clearly laying on the bottom step on the staircase. I would lay there at the bottom step and suck on my bottle and nap and I remember that clearly. You know I just love milk and eventually my mother took it away.

Adam: Who has been the biggest influence in your life?

Yolanda: Well I’d have to say my faith because through my faith I have continued to better myself and allow the lord to show me things through myself and my idiosyncrasy. He has gently corrected my life to make me the woman I am today which isn’t perfect you know but always seeking to do better and trying to do better.

Adam: How would you like to be remembered?

Yolanda: I’d like to be remembered as one of the pioneers. I wanna be remembered as everything I did for myself and my children I did with a giving spirit and a forgiving heart. Not every time that you put yourself out there whether be for your kids or your friends people receive it the right way, so you do sometimes have to forgive people in a way that they respond to your behavior whether good, bad, or different. So I wanna be remembered as a, loving and persistent individual who never took no for an answer and always put her best foot forward for her children and for her life period. I hope that my children remember me by my strength and perseverance, my good times and my bad times. I want them to learn from my mistakes and know how to behave in situations that aren’t always what you would expect or what you “deserve” to always be careful and thankful in everything you do and I hope that they remember that.
