♥ Strokes Ain't No Joke

Posted by Tyheim Price in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 10:33 pm

In the video my group mates and I talk about heart disease and strokes, which are the leading causes of death world wide. I also interviewed a physicians assistant at the Heart Care Consultants in Philadelphia. We found out what a stroke is, what some of the main factors of a stroke is, and how to prevent getting heart disease. I choose this topic because heart diseases are common and I think the way my life is going I'm going to get a heart disease or two. Hopefully this project will prevent me from getting any... or just to get one.
I personally think that I did almost everything for this project. I did checkpoint one by myself, I helped with checkpoint two, I did the interview by myself, I helped to record and edit as well. Jada and Caylin did help as well so credit to them.
I think the interview went really well, I just wish that the project video went better.
I think the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA was the interview, however I think that the video we made for the project did not do the interview justice and I do regret that. However, we did learn a lot doing this project and I don't regret that.

Food Safety PSA

Posted by Mariano Mattei in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 10:24 pm

This PSA was made to show people how important food safety is. It includes examples of foodborne disease outbreaks. It also includes examples of the corporations that help to keep our food safe as well as examples of what they do. Food safety is very important because, especially in recent times, there have been many outbreaks of foodborne diseases that have harmed many people. These corporations do their best to prevent this from happening. I contributed a lot of research and was a big part of the video/PSA. We all communicated very well with each other. We kept in touch to keep up with the due dates and kept each other in track. One thing I think we could have done better was to spend more time creating the script so that our video wasn't as random and was more put together. Personally, I think the best part of our PSA was our skit. It was really fun to film it and we almost couldn't make it through the scene without laughing. I am very happy with the way our PSA turned out.

Blindness PSA

Posted by Fatima Bamba in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 10:20 pm

In this video, we talked about the public health issue of blindness. We chose this topic because we wanted to inform the public about blindness. My role in the group was recording our interview with the ophthalmologist. I think we did well with providing information about blindness. Our video is very informative. I think we could've tried to make our video more visually appealing. The most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA was learning more about blindness.

Public Health and Blindness

Posted by Sanai Stafford in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 9:59 pm

For our benchmark, we decided to choose the public health issue of blindness. In our PSA we talked about what blindness was, how it affects so many people around the world both economically and physically, how people can be aware of what blindness is, how people can prevent themselves from developing it and how Optometrists play a part in trying to work with people who are at risk of losing their sight and those who have already lost it. I know from personal experience because of the struggles that my dad who is visually impaired(blind) has to go through especially with the healthcare system. So it was good that we chose this topic because it's something that I know well of. Everyone in my group did a good job of playing their role in the group. My role in the group was finding someone we could interview. Unfortunately, we couldn't get someone from an organization but we were able to talk to my dad's optometrist.

Alcohol PSA (Dexter, Lamier, Josh, and Me)

Posted by Eric Porter in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 8:46 pm

This video is a PSA about the effects of alcohol and alcoholism on the body and how this affects public health in our country. I wanted to choose this topic because of the widespread risk involved with alcohol and how this can affect people that are close to us. Alcohol is also a major influence of economics like tobacco, which is quite terrible.
I contributed some research, a small skit for the PSA video, and I edited everything together. I believe we researched quite thoroughly everything that is associated with alcohol and how it in turn affects public health. We could have prepared the PSA a bit better, with better visuals, but we were limited in our capabilities. I also believe we exceeded on our ability to interview two people for this project.
I believe the most meaningful part of the PSA is the message you can get from it and how not to let alcohol rule your life and your community.

Public health and Blindness PSA

Posted by Kitana Seals in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 7:24 pm

We choose the topic of Blindness. Our group member Sanai’s dad is mostly blind, and she knew of his optometrist. We thought that it would be a topic that could help benefit those who are blind and those becoming blind. It’s an informational P.S. A that can he reach people and their families if they have such vision impairments. We talk about organizations and provide examples. While also talking to a professional, on the health issue.

For this project and how I have involved myself was crucial as being a team leader. I was there to do my part, but also ask my group members to do certain things that I couldn’t. We all communicated well on the tasks that needed to be done. I am very outspoken so, I talked through everything with my group mates before setting anything in stone. It was a good environment and the way that the project came out of the efforts of everyone, didn’t turn out bad. I do feel like when it came to the video that we could have practiced more, but other than that I felt like our information was good. When thinking about it, I would like to add more edits to the video and make it more visually appealing to the public. Even with me wanting to change things, the best part about this P.S. A was doing it with my friends. We had a lot of laughs behind the scenes, and it was a good way to end the last benchmark of the year in this class.

Alcoholism and the effects on the Human body

Posted by Dexter Le in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 7:11 pm

In this video, we talked about the effects of alcoholism that we studied and condensed it down to 1 minute. In addition, we took two interview recordings from Mr. Hellinger from The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, and our School Nurse, Mrs. Barmont. We asked many questions for each of the interviewees which are structured in a way that helps us identify and learn from the effects Alcoholism plays on others. A significant part in the video was when each of the interviewees mentioned that Alcoholism not only affects the individual, however, it affects the emotional and mental structures of other people around this person. I contributed to this project by scheduling down our process and getting connections on the internet. In other words, I was the general coordinator for the team as I have reached a couple of organizations, and managed team time. I believe that I should improve on this time management because there were points where we got lost in the outreach process. We struggled to find interviewees, many organizations did not reply back except for one. However, I do believe that I did well in improvising our schedule because time flew by so fast and it made it hard to record everything. I will admit that the most beneficial part of this project was outreaching to other organizations. Although this may seem insignificant to the topic at hand, having the ability to communicate professionally to others is such a strong skill. From these interviews, we have realized how much of a threat Alcoholism is to the public, and why it is such an important public health issue. We have also learned that there are many wealthy organizations which encourage alcoholism, and even leave a mark in advertisements. However, we have also learned that there are professionals out there who counter against this disorder, and others who spread awareness to others.

Q4 Benchmark: Public Health and Blindness.

Posted by Samantha Green in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 7:10 pm

The Summary of the content in our video on Public Health And Blindness is to make everyone aware of how they can get further medical advice on their medical history and to inform them on their condition. We chose this project because their are many blind people who aren’t heard, and we want to inform the community about their life’s. I contributed to our group by editing our video, and making sure our project was being completed as our timeline followed. My group did a wonderful job working together. I wouldnt Do anything differently. The most meaningful part of the PSA was learning more about blind people, and not just how we view them, blindness is deeper than it may appear to be.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

In regards to the what happens when someone receives a TBI. The only wonder is how much force it takes for someone to get a TBI. Also coming up with a average for the amount of force required for one to occur. It's been fun researching this topic because I've learned quite a lot about this. The drawing below has a before and after brain injury side of your brains functions. A drawing seemed to be the best way to make an accurate presentation of this. Which was fun as well.
