At Science Leadership Academy@Beeber, capstone projects are an integral part of the learning experience. These projects are designed to make a lasting impression on the student and the school, while not taking away from the regular curriculum. This was especially true for my capstone project.

My team and I tackled the important subject of financial literacy, with the goal of showing our classmates the importance of financial freedom. We believed that this knowledge was essential to making informed decisions, and wanted to ensure that our peers had the same opportunities that we did.

To make our project as engaging as possible, we developed creative assignments tailored to our students. We created quizzes, worksheets, and presentations to ensure that everyone was engaged and learning. We also provided real-world examples of financial freedom to illustrate our points.

Our capstone project provided us with an invaluable experience that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. We learned how to teach, collaborate, and communicate effectively, while also gaining an insightful understanding of the world of finance.

Tikvah Nicholson's Capstone

Posted by Tikvah Nicholson in Senior Capstone · Roy · x1 on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at 11:44 pm

For my senior project, I had a vision of a revolutionary program that would artistically inject creativity and harmony into our educational atmosphere. I wanted to build a place where the whole class of 2023 could actively participate, fostering a feeling of community and a common goal. The objective was to make our school corridor more cheerful and to turn it into a center for learning new information, gaining more knowledge, and developing critical thinking abilities. To do this, I started working on a project that would let Slabeeber’s future students express themselves effectively and individually. My classmate and I started working together to create a large-scale creative mural that would reflect our shared vision and capture the essence of our graduating class. A portion of the artwork was given to each pupil or group, allowing for unique expression while upholding a unifying concept.

My Senior Capstone Project was a student news Instagram page that was created by me and my partner Suhailah Rice. Before creating this page our idea originally started out as a newspaper. However, we decided that using the internet to create this platform would be more efficient and pleasing to younger viewers. Overall, disregarding the minor setbacks that we faced while completing our project we have taken many things from it and had an enjoyable experience when creating the page.

Updating a school sports page is a crucial endeavor that can have a significant impact on the overall engagement and connection with the school’s athletic programs. In today’s fast-paced digital era, it is essential for schools to maintain an up-to-date and user-friendly sports page to keep students, parents, and the community informed and involved.

For my Capstone I made a basketball video and it is teaching the kids in the community or anyone that views it on how to play basketball so they can have a new hobby. Also, this was to get people off of the streets since my basketball video you can do this workout right outside your house in your house or in a gym and if you feel like your city is in a safe environment you may go to your park and do it. The end goal of this project is to make people better themselves in basketball and it will help you in your everyday life. Since you need to sacrifice things to help you get better like you may want to play the game today but you want to get better at basketball, you need to decide what will help you. If you want to be great at something you would need to sacrifice something to get what you want in life. By teaching kids in the community how to play basketball, you are helping to instill important values such as discipline and hard work that can help them in all areas of their lives.

I created a safe space for middle school girls at SLA Beeber, serving as a role model and offering a sisterly bond. Inspired by my own efforts to strengthen my relationship with my sister, I aimed to provide support and a place for these girls to express themselves. My classmates and I developed a mini-course focused on team-building, icebreakers, and interactive activities.

Throughout the project, I connected with the girls on a deeper level, going beyond the typical student dynamic. I strived to be a big sister, addressing their concerns and fostering personal growth. The course spanned several months, including a get-to-know-you party, self-care sessions, and outdoor classes.

Despite facing delays and challenges in maintaining their interest, I remained determined to make a positive impact. We sought new activities and utilized online resources to keep them engaged. Collaboration with my classmates and effective communication were crucial for success.

This experience taught me the importance of community and selflessness. Interacting with these girls allowed me to appreciate the simplicity and step away from my own worries. The project aimed to empower the girls, boosting their self-esteem, academic performance, and social skills. Witnessing their progress made me proud, and I hoped that one of them would continue the tradition, inspiring and supporting younger girls in the future.

Overall, the project successfully provided a supportive space for middle school girls, fostering mentorship and personal development. It showcased the positive impact of older students on younger ones, fostering unity in our school community.

I embarked on an ambitious journey to create a mental health website and forum, aiming to provide a supportive and inclusive online space for individuals struggling with mental health issues. The initial phase involved extensive research to gain a deeper understanding of mental health, and the website was designed to be visually appealing and easy to navigate. To ensure the safety and well-being of forum users, I implemented strict guidelines and moderation practices. I am proud to have created a platform that provides individuals with a safe and understanding space to share their stories, seek assistance, and find solace in a community that truly cares.

In summary, the purpose of my Capstone Project was to research the impact of extra-curricular activities in schools, and to look at the experiences that Philadelphia students have with extracurricular activities . My process included researching the benefits of extracurricular activities on students, doing surveys, and doing interviews. This allowed me to collect a lot of information from students, parents, school staff, and school leaders about the impact of having extracurricular clubs in schools. The goal was also to gather information about the benefits of extracurricular activities, and to get information about the extracurricular activities that schools already have, and the kind of activities that people would like to see more of. Another goal was to share this information with school leaders so that they can make sure that they offer students as many extracurricular clubs as possible. My capstone project shows that extra-curricular activities help with student attendance, student behavior and student motivation to learn. In conclusion, my capstone project also shows that most schools in Philadelphia could use more extra-curricular activities, and more variety, not just sports. This can make the school community better for everyone, especially all students.

I created a fitness and nutrition website for my senior project, with the goal of encouraging general health and well-being. I discovered the many benefits of regular exercise through thorough research, highlighting its good influence on physical and mental well-being. Acknowledging the need for suitable warm-up routines, especially for beginners, I emphasized them as a necessary component of any workout. I developed particular warm-up activities focused on people new to fitness to give a safe and successful starting point. In addition to exercise, I researched the health benefits of including fruit juices in a person’s diet, highlighting the role they play in overall health. I want to persuade people to make healthier eating choices by emphasizing their nutritional importance. Throughout the process, I realized my talent for quickly and successfully developing original ideas. When faced with obstacles or issues that need creative solutions, I discovered that I was capable of developing unique ideas on the spot. Using my knowledge and abilities, I devised unique and successful answers to any challenges that came throughout the creation of my senior project.

For my senior project, I developed a comprehensive fitness and nutrition website focused on promoting the benefits of exercise, warm-up routines, and the inclusion of fruit juices in a healthy diet. This project aimed to guide beginners and individuals seeking overall health improvement. The process involved multiple steps, including conducting research, creating content, and engaging in demonstrations. Also, this enabled me to provide evidence-based content that visitors could trust. In terms of content creation, I developed informative articles that highlighted the advantages of working out, the importance of warming up, and the benefits of incorporating fruit juices into one’s diet. Additionally, I provided specific warm-up routines and beginner-friendly workout recommendations to cater to the needs of my target audience. To enhance user experience, I designed an intuitive and nice website layout, incorporating elements such as images and videos. Throughout this project, I acquired valuable skills and knowledge. I deepened my understanding of fitness and nutrition principles, bettered my research and content creation abilities, and developed a better understanding of website design and user experience. Additionally, I learned the importance of practical application in reinforcing the concepts I presented. Overall, this senior project enabled me to create an impactful fitness and nutrition resource while acquiring valuable skills for future goals.
