Internet Survival Guide

  1. Immediacy is when you post something without analyse the post before hand. This is dangerous offline and online.

  2. You can make your password something only you know and no one else does. Make sure you check all your info to make sure nothing is missing or stolen.

  3. The internet has rules that is why they created banning to restrict anyone that doesn't follow the rules.

  4. Cyber Bullying to me is exposing someone's personal business on web so lots of people can see.

  5. Talking about someone behind their back is bullying and making fun of them and they don’t notice. Also posting someone without their authority. You are putting up content that they don’t want to because it’s embarrassing or private.

  6. Think of a password only you will know and come up with make it unique. Make a hint so that you can remember that password like what you named your first pet or what is you dream name. Something that no one else knows the answer to.

  7. 1. Secure 2. Hard password 3. Don’t just think about yourself. 4. Analyse before you post. 5. Don’t talk about others or post without someone’s authority.

Internet Survival Guide

  1. The internet has changed communication because instead of going to go see people you can just direct message them on social media. For example me and my sister don use the free time that we have to go visit each other but we still keep up with each other on instagram.

  2. Immediacy is like when you post something on the internet and it Immediately goes up there. For example when I post a picture or video on instagram it immediately goes up there.Permanence is when you post something on the internet and even if you try to erase it, it will be there permanently/ forever. When I put my tbt pictures on instagram and delete them it will permanently be there even after I delete them. Lack of Control is when you post something on the internet and something happens you can't do anything about it. When somebody repost something of yours you can’t complain because it's out of your control because you posted it so people can do as they please.

  3. You can protect your account(s) online by making sure you don’t have any personal information in your bio/profiles, make sure your accounts are set to private when people have to request permission to follow you and make sure you have a strong password. You can manage your accounts by making sure you sure you have a different password for everything because it's easier for someone to get into all your stuff like that.

  4. I don’t specifically think that the internet has rule I just think that there are rules within the internet websites. For example, YouTube has rules when it comes to posting content but YouTube is only a website inside of the Internet.

  5. Cyber Bullying is harassment towards someone online after they have asked to stop threatening/ intimidating them.

  6. Harassment because you talk about them in ways that they wished not to be talked about and it's intimidating. Marginalized- because you're leaving somebody out of a group chat or just an online multi-player game.

  7. Victims- Speak up don't just sit there, someone is always there to help. Bullies- Talk to somebody and explain why this is happening. Apologize to the person(s) that your bullying. Bystanders- Go get help or step in and try to stop the situation or take the victim and walk away and talk.

  8. Tip 1: Never have the same password for everything.Tip 2: Have important things backed up. Tip 3: Think before you post. Tip 4: Have a private account. Tip 5: Don’t feed into trolls.

Internet Survival Guide

Slide 2

An explanation of how the Internet has changed communication. Make sure to use at least one specific example.

The internet has changed communication because it allows people to get in touch more easily and information/news to be transferred faster. An example of this is when there's an emergency, such as Hurricanes or wildfires, and people need to evacuate and they can just be alerted through social media if something is about to happen or if something is happening that hasn't affected them yet.

Slide 3

Define Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control as they pertain to the Internet and explain how Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control affect both our offline and our online identities and lives. Include at least one example for each.

Immediacy is how immediate information can be spread around on the internet. Immediacy could affect our online life because if we post something by accident and a lot of people see it, than (depending on what’s posted) it could change somebody’s opinion of you. Immediacy could affect your offline life because it could keep you from getting a job if there's something that you post is bad and the company you work for finds it. An example of immediacy is if somebody posts something on twitter that’s racist, that would get around quickly and there would be consequences for that.

Permanence is how everything you post on the internet can be tracked even if it’s deleted. Permanence could affect your online life because if you post something negative when you're a young person or when you're not in the best state of mind, having somebody find that could alter how they perceive you. Permanence could affect your offline life because if you did something dumb in your youth, your potential job could hold that against you and not give you the job. An example of permanence is if a celebrity were to post something negative, that would stay on the internet forever because people would begin to repost and talk about it immediately.

Lack of control is when you post something on the internet, you can't get it back no matter what you do. Lack of control could affect your online life because once you post something, it's out there on the internet forever and people can interpret it however they want to, whether it's positive or negative. Lack of control could affect your offline life because if you post something and somebody misinterprets that, it could be held against you that you posted it in the first place.  An example of lack of control is if somebody were to screenshot a post or picture of yours, and edit to to make it seem like it’s something bad but it’s actually not.

Slide 4

What are two ways that you can actively manage and protect your identity and your reputation online? (one of each)

I can actively manage and protect my identity by not posting about personal things, such and my address or social security number, and I could protect my reputation online by not posting anything negative or offensive towards anybody.

Slide 5

Answer the question: “Does the Internet have rules?” Use at least one specific example.

I think that some of the internet has rules, such as certain websites, but I don’t think that the internet in it’s entirety has rules. For example, people could get banned from Twitter for doing certain things, but not banned from the internet for doing the same things.

Slide 6

Define cyberbullying in your own words.

Cyberbullying is harassing people online and making people feel threatened or offended about the things you say on the internet, whether it’s intentful or not. (Depending on the content.)

Slide 7

Describe at least 2 kinds of cyberbullying and why they are considered cyberbullying

There is a summary offense and a misdemeanor of the third degree.  A summary offense is considered cyberbullying because they are harassing / constantly communicating with somebody for no legitimate purpose. A third degree offense is considered cyberbullying because it is communicating with somebody anonymously in a threatening manner or at inconvenient times.

Slide 8

Provide advice for: victims, bullies and bystanders of cyberbullying

Victims should try to talk to an adult about what’s happening if it doesn’t stop because they could help you more than you think. Bullies should stop doing what they’re doing because there’s no valid reason, and they should focus on bettering themselves and stop being so unhappy with themselves. For bystanders of cyberbullying, you shouldn’t get into arguments online because it could make things worse, and you should report anybody that you see meaning mean to another person.

Slide 9

Your Top 5 tips for using the Internet

  • Don’t: be mean.

  • Don’t: post personal information.

  • Do: always follow the law

  • Do: report people if you feel the need to and you think there is a valid reason.

  • Do: keep your account private and accept people who you know ow who you think aren’t a threat to you and your identity.

Slide 2

An explanation of how the Internet has changed communication. Make sure to use at least one specific example.

Over time the internet has changed drastically because more people are allowed to access it. For example, when the internet was first created only major companies were allowed to post content and no one could leave comments but now anyone can post content and feedback on another person's post.

Slide 3,4,5

Define Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control as they pertain to the Internet and explain how Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control affect both our offline and our online identities and lives. Include at least one example for each.

(Immediacy) Is how quickly something can be posted and spread on social media.

(Permanence) is how a picture or video stays on the internet even when you delete it and/or

(Lack of Control ) is having no control over what people post of you or what people do to what you post,

Slide 6

What are two ways that you can actively manage and protect your identity and your reputation online? (one of each)

Google Search/ Google Image Search  yourself to be aware of what others see when they search for you. Also, set up a Google alert on your name to track new posts about you.

To protect your online identity remember to think before you post and separate your social life from work and school. For example, create different emails for school/ work and social life.

Slide 7

Answer the question: “Does the Internet have rules?” Use at least one specific example.

The internet in my opinion has rules but they are not known or followed. For example there is terms and regulations for most internet applications but, no one reads them or follow them which results in a lack of order.

Slide 8

Define cyberbullying in your own words.

Cyberbullying is using online applications to harass and intimidate someone, typically by posting unwanted pictures and sending threats.

"internet survival guide"

                                                  “Internet survival guide”

  1. Internet has changed the verbal communication, people these days don’t like to communicate verbally, they just sent messages through gmail or snap chat or google hangouts.

2.  Immediacy is when you bring someone into a direct and instant involvement with something or someone. This can effect our online life and our offline life, for example if you see someone having a conversation in the hallway, and the person directly involves you in the conversation, Immediacy can also affect your online life, for example if a person is having an argument with a person online and you join in, you are probably going to get involved in the situation. its also like when you post something immediately.

3. Permanence is something permanent which stays and never goes off the internet, also it’s the state of lasting for a long time or remaining forever, in other words it’s endless. Permanence can effect our online life, for example if we post something inappropriate, people can re post it like a 100 times then it's all over the internet it doesn't go away no matter how hard you try to get it off the internet.

Permanence also affects our offline life, for example if you get suspended many times, the record would stay there forever.

4.  “Lack of control”  Many people face lack of control for example if you post a tweet and someone re tweets it by editing it, you would probably try to delete it but you wouldn't be able to, because it was re tweeted many times and someone probably has it saved. A real life example of “Lack of Control” is when the teacher is asking the kids to pay attention, and the kids take their phone out to text.

5. “Does the Internet have rules?”

No, because you can be 12 years old and get on Facebook by changing your birth day to 1998 or 1999.

6. “Define cyber bullying in your own words”

Cyber bullying is used when you bully someone using an electronic device, it’s like when you sent messages to a person to threaten them.

7. The way you can actively manage protect your identity and your reputation online is when you have a password which cannot be hacked easily by a hacker, or you can have the private mode on your account so your files would not be shown, also do not post any bad comments which can get reported, don’t save your password into different computers because people can get into your account easily.

8. There are 2 types of cyber bullying through an electronic device, the first one is when you threaten someone through a phone, like you ask someone to give you money and you say if you don't give me the money right now you are going to die or lose your job etc…

The second way of cyber bullying is when you insult a classmate by an unknown number or by your own number and make them feel really bad about themselves.

9. My advice for victims, bullies and bystanders of cyber bullying is that they should stop doing this because it’s only waste of their time, they can do something better and help people out who are lonely and have no one to talk to. If they would stop doing the negative stuff they would feel way better, and they also would get wisdom.

“My top 5 tips for using the internet”

  1. Think twice before you post anything.

  2. Don’t jump into random conversations.

  3. Be polite on social media.

  4. Don’t post inappropriate stuff on social media.

  1. (Slide #2)The internet is a world wide communication network that allows everyone to connect and trade information. The internet came from the U.S. government.

  2. (Slide#3)We do not have to travel just to talk to someone anymore. Now we can communicate through the social media. It is a easier way to communicate with your family.

  3. (Slide#4)The internet can be unsafe but you can protect your information. On the internet you have to acquire a password to keep your identity and reputation safe. But make sure its a password no one can possibly figure out.

  4. (Slide#5)The internet does have rules that you should follow.  One important rule is that do not hack the internet. If you disobey this rule especially  then you will be banned from the internet. Then you will not be able to access the internet never again.

  8. (Slide#9)Permanence-Permanent never goes away.Permanent affects your life because when you post something its always on the internet.

Internet Survival Guide

--Slides--

Slide 2: The Internet has changed communication. Before Internet, there was no way to connect with people beside meeting up with them in cafe and bars to keep in touch with them. Nowadays there is plenty of ways to communicate with people and furthermore meeting new people from all over the world. For example, Facebook has changed the way we communicate. In Facebook you could communicate with your friends and also meet new people.

Slide 3: Immediacy refers to how fast something gets spread and or post onlines. Permanence means that something is being permanently posted online. Lack of Control means that when you post something you lose all control of where that post may end up and who that post might end up with.

Slide 4: Immediacy, Permanence and lack of Control affects both our offline and online identities and lives. Immediacy effects our online and offline identities and lives because of how fast something gets spread and or post online and before you even get to deleted people had already seen it before and furthermore screenshotted it. Permanence effects our online and offline identities and lives because as soon as you post something there is no way to get them back. Lack of control affects our online and offline identities and lives because when you post something you don’t know who have control over them and who lose control of it. For example, like the story of Amanda Todd, the fifteen year girl who took her own life when she lost control of what she posted online to an anonymous person. She couldn’t get back her things she posted and it was lack of control.

Slide 5: One way I could actively manage my identity and reputation online is that I should be aware of things I post online and don’t post anything that others won’t like. One way I could protect my identity and reputation is that I should be well informed who I talk to online and who I send and share things to.

Slide 6: The internet does have rules. You can’t do anything inappropriate and do things that could affect others lives and harm them. In terms of using Internet, there is a privacy policy. You have to agree with that policy in order to use that website which almost all things in Internet has. For example, Instagram that has a privacy policy. The Instagram’s privacy policy is about things you could do and things you can’t do.

Slide 8: Cyber bullying is a bullying that take place using electronic devices. It’s where someone harasses an individual or a group of people. 2 kinds of cyber bullying are impersonation and harassment. Impersonation is when someone is pretending to someone sending mean and rude things. Harassment is when someone is repeatedly sending things to someone else online.

Slide 9: The advises for victims are that if you are getting harassed and bullied online just know that don’t be down for anyone. Instead immediately see a trusted person and share what is happening with you. Record what everything they’re doing it to you but don’t respond or try to fight back. The advises for bullies are that you can’t always be harassing people, one day everyone will find about you and you could get punished for it. You could get consequences and repercussions. The advises for bystanders are that you should help everyone you are seeing getting assault because you never know when it will happen to you and you won’t get any help from others. So be aware of your surroundings and help others who are in troubles.

Slide 10: Five tips for using the Internet is that first don’t put personal information online for anything. Second, think before you post something because once you post something you lose control of it. Thirdly, be aware of people you add as a friend in social media. Fourthly, don’t argue with someone that is bullying you meaning don’t respond or fight back but instead record everything. Lastly, remember that not everyone online is who they are in reality.

Internet Survival Guide

  • Slide 5 An explanation of how the Internet has changed communication. Make sure to use at least one specific example.

The internet has changed communication because everybody gets information has changed.

  • Slide1 Define Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control as they pertain to the Internet

Immediacy in internet is explaining how fast get uploaded, Permanence is a way to show how no matter what if you post online it is still there, even if you delete if off the internet someone can always bring it back up with a screenshot. Lack of Control is not having a real thought when you are using the internet, not thinking of what you are posting while or before posting.

  • Slide2 An explanation of how Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control affect both our offline and our online identities and lives. Include at least one example.

Immediacy can affect your online and offline life because if you post something inappropriate someone can screenshot it and send it your boss, teacher, parent, and etc, which can mess up your reputation. Permanence to me is the biggest effect because no matter if you delete of the internet someone can always bring it back up, someone can always share what you think is private. Lack of control can mess up your offline life because you should be more responsible when it comes to what you say.

  • Slide 6 What are two ways that you can actively manage and protect your identity and your reputation online? (one of each)

One way that you can actively manage your identity is to email the source you are using to tell them it’s really you are put a lock on your page. Another way to protect your online reputation is to watch what you post, post things that are really for you and be mindful of other feelings.

  • Slide 3Answer the question: “Does the Internet have rules?” Use at least one specific example.

Yes, the internet has rules, it’s thing you can and cannot do on the internet. It’s certain websites that block you off as a teenager or things like that. For example certain or most social media sites do not allow you to post or repost things. Or they will email you and say that you can not use something because you have broke one of their rules.

  • Slide4 Define cyberbullying in your own words.

    • Describe at least 2 kinds of cyberbullying and why they are considered cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is a way of doing things online disrespecting people, saying rude comments, and etc.

  • Slide 7 Provide advice for: victims, bullies and bystanders of cyberbullying

For victims of cyberbullying tell someone, do not let someone take you for instance, for bullies grow up! Act mature and treat people the way you want to be treated.

  • Slide 8 Your Top 5 tips for using the Internet

  1. Remember who you are, do not let the internet change you.

  2. Do not post things that are disrespect to others or harming people.

  3. Keep your mind set on the right things, encourage people.

  4. Stay mindful of your elders

  5. People love who you are when you are around them don’t change because of what the internet is based around.

Internet survival guide

  1. The internet has been able to change communication in multiple ways that can let other interact between each other and communicate. For example, Skype is probably one of the main Communication tools I use constantly to interact and communicate between my friends.

  2. Immediacy itself means that whatever you post or say online or offline can spread like wildfire and get out of control in a very quick manner. Permanence means that whatever you post can literally never go away due to the fact that so many people could have copied and posted this themselves. Lack of control means that you can never really get rid of the thing you could have posted because someone else could have copied it and posted it on somewhere you may not want it, meaning you have no control over that one and can’t do anything to hide it or censor it.

  3. One way to actively manage and protect your identity online is to literally never post anything and live on with your life not posting anything that you only want your friends to see. Another way to manage and protect your identity online is to only post things that you feel will not offend anyone, not hurt anyone, and not hurt yourself or your reputation. For example, if you posted something that will not hurt you but offend someone else they may get revenge on you and could post something that could really hurt your reputation.

  4. The internet itself I would say has no rules but the websites that you can access with the internet have a ton of rules and regulations, for example when you enter a website or any other form of social media, games, Etc. They require a terms of use or any other form of rule agreement that you have to accept before using it.

  5. Cyber bullying to me is a form of bullying that really is just on the internet that can take many forms. For example there are forms of cyberbullying from the two people themselves like verbal abuse, but then their are those cases where a person can be saying bad things about the victim on social media just to lower their reputation.

  6. One form can be between two people, one person can be verbally abusing the other, While another form could be between many people and just one person, they all just abuse that one person with hate messages and so on.

  7. Victims should always double check their account for things such as hate messages and should always be aware of what their posting because it can seriously backfire and cause destruction.

8.

  • Try to never use social media.

  • Be aware of what your posting.

  • Be conscious of the people around you and what they may think about a post.

  • Ignore haters /block them or report them if you can.

  • FInd something better to do with your time on the internet that on social medi.

But sometimes you can get around it and lie about your age.

7.Define Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control as they pertain to the Internet and explain how Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control affect both our offline and our online identities and lives. Include at least one example for each.

Immediacy is when you are posting something on the internet

Permanence is as soon as you post something on the internet even though you believe you deleted it, it still will be there. For example other people can look it up.

Lack of Control is when you post something about someone else and has no control about it. They have no say so in what you post or if it's about you.

8.An explanation of how the Internet has changed communication. Make sure to use at least one specific example.

The internet has changed the communication because everything is basically over the internet. Working at your job, typing essays and so forth at school is all over the internet. Social media is over the internet, snapchat and etc. Years ago they used express mail using horses and people to deliver mail and to communicate to other people. But now everything can be through the computer or the phone.
