Mekhya and I chose to make our handbag light up. We’re making our handbag light up because it symbolize our passion for fashion. Adding the lights to the handbag would be something helpful because when women usually dig in their handbag they can’t see. The lights would be perfect for women because then they could see what they're looking for. Us using a piece of clothing and remodeling, helps us start in the fashion world.

I chose to do a pocketbook. This is important to me because without it, I wouldn't have anything to hold my things in and I would probably lose most of my personal items. I wanted to have a light in the bag because I go out a lot, and when I am out and it is dark and I need something from out of my bag I really can’t see. So I wanted to include so light so that I can save some time and find what I need.
Electric art project
I chose a heart piece because i think everyone's heart has a light. Since I was little I knew that the heart may be weak but deep down there's a light that never goes out. I think that because even the darkest person has a bright side. When I was in kindergarden i met a girl that was very shy and mean. I had to help her open up to me. Once i made her feel comfortable around me she was a really nice girl. She just had trust issues. So my sculpture gives me a good memory of how i made a good friend.
My bulbs are in series so they are dim.

I decided that my sculpture that represents me personally is a stage because I love performing. My artist statement for this would be “ Life is your stage so perform to the best you are able to.” I am trying to say that in life you should try to act as if you are performing at your best and try your best. I strongly believe this because ever since I was little I have always wanted to my best. I like to do well all the time because I really want to succeed whether it is on the stage or if it is off the stage.

I chose to use this because this might bring a good challenge to both me and my partner .I also choose this sign because I like the colors black and yellow . The sign already light up but with the extra colored lights it brings an extra pop into the lights that come with it. Then the lights are just there and we have our sign.

Electric Art
The goal of this project is to incorporate an item of personal significance as well as an electric circuit run off a battery. I have chosen to light up my track spikes since I have a strong passion for Track & Field and since I can’t light up a whole track I chose an old pair I used to run in. The sculpture I made shows that I have a love for what I do and I am really into it. I’ve been running track for three years now and I intend on getting scholarships from my efforts/achievements. I also hope to run in the Olympics and break the world records for the 100m and 200m dash one day.
Electric Picture Frame by Julie and Gabby
We created a picture frame for our electric art project. We created a picture frame because we never saw one that lights up and we thought it would be a unique thing to make. We both agreed to this idea and design since we both always look at old pictures of ourselves. It’s a way to look back at old memories that we had.

Electric Art Phone Case- Heather & Olivia
The item we used to light up is a cell phone case. A phone case resembles a phone to us. Our phones are very important to us. Heather and I thought about doing many different things but it came down to us using a phone case. We both use our phones every day along with many others. People can use their phones to call, text, go on social media, take pictures, videos, play games, listen to music and many other things. Phones take up a lot of everybody’s day along with ours. It made sense to use a phone case because it is small and it easily can represent us. Being able to represent ourselves in physics was interesting. We both worked together to create ideas along with the final product. There were roadblocks along the way of this process but we did not give up. Some parts were challenging but overall it was fun to create a project using physics along with our everyday lives. The phone case says that we use our phones but also that we use them in meaningful ways. Students can use their phones if they forget their laptops and they can use them for simple things like looking up a definition or emailing a teacher if they are not right next to their laptop. The phone case says Heather and I can use materials in different ways along with the fact we can put a deeper meaning into the product. This project was difficult at times and there was a rush at the end, but we had fun doing it and we put a lot of work and meaning into it.

"After all this time, I remember."-Eva
I chose this memoir because I can relate to it in many ways in terms of my nostalgia for my old school and things I've had to let go of in the past year that I can't seem to find a way to forget about. I have cried a lot because of the changes in my life. I also cry sometimes because I can’t find a way to move on from the past and it’s frustrating when I always remember and think about it. My nostalgia for my old school has been extremely hard on me for the last year because I didn’t want things to change, but my parents decided it was time for me to have new experiences for high school. Therefore, I cried quite a bit because I didn’t want to leave my old school since I felt so comfortable there. I’ve also been having a hard time moving on from my first relationship, which was in the beginning of this year. My 6 word memoir connects with my old school and my relationship because it’s been such a long time now since everything changed, and I still think about it every day. I represent and illustrate my pain and struggling from the past year with multiple empty pieces of furniture in my drawing. I have 2 empty tables and a bare bed, which to me represent the emptiness I’ve felt from moving on. On my bed I drew a puddle of tears to represent the many times when I’ve cried alone in my room wishing things could be different. On the back wall I drew a small picture frame with 3 dots. Similar to the way you would write “...” to perhaps show time passing in a written piece, I have it in a picture frame to show time passing in my life, since so many things have changed.

Caffeine and it's Effects on the Body
Task 1:
Make a conjecture: How long would you judge it takes for the caffeine to leave your body and at what rate? At what point in time has half the caffeine left your body?
I would judge that it takes 6-8 hours for Caffeine and leaves your body at an hourly rate. So, at about 3-4 hours, the caffeine would be halfway gone.
Sketch a graph with labeled axes that shows what you think displays the relationship between time and the amount of caffeine in your body.
What is the lowest amount of caffeine that can be present in the body to feel its effects?
32-200 mg
Is caffeine a stimulant or a depressant?
Caffeine is a stimulant.
What percentage of caffeine in a person’s body is eliminated each hour?
13 percent of caffeine is eliminated from the body every hour.
Task 2:
Choose a caffeinated drink you drink daily (or often).
Sunkist Orange Soda: 12 fl oz.
What type of function can you use to represent the amount of caffeine in your body? Explain
You can use an exponential function to represent the amount of coffee in your body. You use this function because its graph decreases which is what happens to the caffeine as time progresses and it doesn’t decrease at a constant rate.
When will the caffeine completely leave your body?
Theoretically, the caffeine will never leave your body. This affects the math because on the graph, your asymptote will be 0 meaning the caffeine will never be completely gone.
When you have half of the caffeine left? How long does it take for the first half to disappear? How long for the second half? Show this algebraically.
In order to find out when you will have half the caffeine, you would take your initial amount of caffeine (47 in my case) and divide it by 2. This is shown on the graph represented by the horizontal purple line.
When will the initial caffeine be reduced to an amount that should no longer have any stimulant effect on the body? (Refer to the reading to determine what this amount typically is.) Mark this point on your graph.
The initial caffeine will be reduced to an amount that should no longer have any stimulant effect on the body after the average amount of 32 mg.
My Graph: The Relationship between time and the amount of caffeine throughout a 24 hour period.
Based on my research I recommend that caffeine should not be consumed regularly. The amount of caffeine you consume can increase quickly if you constantly consume it. Based on the amount of caffeine in the product, I would only recommend taking in one or 2 sources of caffeine each day and to space each intake out.
Caffeine and It's Effect
Have you ever wondered the effects of caffeine? Have you experiences the effects of caffeine? What is caffeine, a stimulant or depressant? Why does it stop affecting our system after a few hours? How much leaves and stays in the body each hour?
Caffeine affects our Central Nervous System (CNS), muscles, hearts and blood. Caffeine is most commonly used as a stimuli, to raise mental awareness. But, it is also used in herbal, pain-killer medicines, low blood-pressure and weight loss. Thus, caffeine is a stimuli, not a depressant. Caffeine affects restlessness, nervousness, irregular sleeping patterns (excessive) and stomach irritation.
Caffeine also makes its’ exit out of the body even hour. Research from the National Science Foundation reports, in an average person, 13% of the caffeine consumed is decreased every hour. This means, 87% still remains in the body. Every drink that consists of caffeine, hourly it will decrease by 13%.
To put this into work, I tracked the amount of my caffeine consumption over a course of 48 hours. The time began from 6:00 AM on Sunday, May 29 to 6:00 AM on Tuesday, May 31. Within these two days, drink items that included caffeine were; black tea, masala chai, Pepsi-Cola and iced coffee.
ANALYSIS OF EQUATIONS
Over the course of 48 hours, I consumed caffeine seven times. Each time caffeine was consumed, a different equation was created:
The first equation (in red) was y=67(0.87)^x-0.5 of masala chai, drank after 30 minutes of 6 o’clock in the morning. It consisted of 67 milligrams of caffeine. However, the 67 in the equation derives from the amount of caffeine at 6:30 AM, saying we drank and finished the masala chai at 6:30 AM.
The second equation (in purple) was y=235.38(0.87)^x-4.5 of Dunkin Donuts small iced coffee. It was consumed at 10:30 in the morning, 4.5 hours after 6:00 AM. The coffee itself instilled 197 milligrams of caffeine. But, even after 4.5 hours the previous caffeine consumption was still in my body, 38.38 milligrams. So, 197 and 38.38 were added to get the total caffeine present in my body at 10:30 AM.
The third equation (in black) was y=149.07(0.87)^x-10.5 of black tea with 47 milligrams of caffeine. It was consumed 10.5 hours later from 6 in the morning. The number 149.07 comes from the previous amount of caffeine present in body at that time, 102.07 mg, then an addition of 47.07 milligrams.
The fourth equation (in blue) was y=131.64(0.87)^x-16.5 of Pepsi consumed. It was consumed after 16.5 hours counting from the 6:00 in the morning. The number 131.64 comes from the amount of caffeine in the Pepsi 38.9 mg and the previous amounts at that time (just before consumption of Pepsi).
The fifth equation (in red) was y=103.03(0.87)^x-25.75 of masala chai consumed on day two. The green shade represents from what to what time I was sleeping. Even during sleep the caffeine was releasing out of the body. So, 103.03 comes from the 67 mg in the masala chai, in addition to the previous amounts of caffeine within the body.
The last, sixth equation (in red) y=91.72(0.87)^x-35 also represents masala chai being consumed after 35 hours (from 6:00 AM, previous day). As in the previous equations, 91.72 mg is of two “ingredients.” The already caffeine in the body, plus the additional caffeine being consumed from the drink, in this case 67 mg were added to the previous amounts of caffeine, 24.72 mg.
To break down the graph we have key features. They are features that best describe the graph, for an easier understanding. In terms of the graph, the red line represents 32 mg of coffee, the amount in the body that it is no longer in effect. The horizontal axis, x-axis represents the time in hours, while the vertical line, y-axis represents the amount present in my body.
Caffeine may seem pleasant for a while, at least until not abused. Within adults, one should consume no more than 350 mg to remain healthy. However, even adolescents take caffeine through chocolate bars or coffee it self. Adolescents should take no more than 90 mg of caffeine per day. A high intake can cause problems such as in sleeping, breathing and blood flow. Caffeine if consumed higher than written should be controlled the next day. Limits should be set up. And, drinking caffeinated drinks early in the morning, allowing the body to process if the whole day will be beneficial. However, after the caffeine levels in your body drop to 32 mg, you can’t feel its’ affects. Drinking caffeine is no problem as long as it is not overdosed or abused.

It is all about Heather Lopez
I’m Heather Lopez. I’m 15 years old. Philadelphia is my hometown and I love living here. There’s lots of different foods and things to do in the city. As I put in my room with the makeup table and dress holder, I love fashion and doing makeup ever since I was young. I put a symbol of Temple University and nursing gear because in my future I plan to go to Temple and study to be a nurse. That’s been my dream since I was little.
